This Memorial Weekend we open with Robert's tick report, which finds the nation experiencing a surge in tick bites and news that half of deer ticks tested in Sconie carry Lyme disease. After touching on the spectacular crash and burn of the Evers/Vos budget surplus debacle, we dig in with State Representative Christian Phelps, one of the most knowledgeable lawmakers on public education funding. We discuss what he sees as the necessary funding for public schools in the 2027-28 state budget to start fixing the damage done by nearly two decades of under-investment. We debrief the GOP State convention where the party got 100% behind election denier Tom Tiffany and decided it was smart to attack the successful and prosperous state of Minnesota. And more data center backlash, as Milwaukee Common Council votes to ban large data centers and regulate smaller ones, and Wrightsville residents fight potential data centers in their village.

In 2025, Hermiston High's Leroy Lozano Mejia quietly became someone the Washington distance scene could no longer ignore. The sophomore entered the fall as a sleeper and left it with authority. Built on patience and aerobic strength, he doesn't chase attention. He shows up, does the work, and lets races speak for him. After running 15:36 and finishing 11th at the 3A state meet as a freshman, Leroy took a clear step forward in his sophomore cross-country season. He won the Battle of the 509 Invitational in Spokane against a strong field. He followed that with a fourth-place finish at Nike Hole in the Wall, running 14:55 on one of the most honest courses in the country. By November, the progression was undeniable. At the Washington 3A State Championships, he finished runner-up in 15:10. From 11th to second in one year. Built slowly. Earned daily. But the story isn't just about results. On the track, the contrast is still there. A 9:15 3200 shows real strength. A 4:23 mile leaves space to grow. And instead of running from that tension, Leroy leans into it.In this episode of The Sunday Shakeout, we talk about discipline as a daily choice, not a personality trait. About backing words with actions. And about the strange truth runners don't always admit — that pain, when chosen, can become addictive.Tap into the Leroy Lozano Mejia Special. If you enjoy the podcast, follow The Sunday Shakeout on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, and leave a five-star review.

Tomorrow (Saturday, 8 March), Western Australians will head to the polls to elect their next government, in what is being seen as a bellwether for the upcoming federal election. Here, the president of the state's Law Society details what law reforms and justice outcomes lawyers in the Wildflower State most want to see. In this episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, host Jerome Doraisamy speaks with Law Society of Western Australia president Gary Mack about the myriad professional hats that he wears – including serving as the mayor of a Perth-based town – what being a mayor has taught him about legal service, the state of affairs for those out west, and why this state election is a unique one. Mack also delves into the four pillars of the WA Law Society's election platform – a well-functioning legal system, youth justice reform, criminal justice reform, and civil justice reform – why it is so essential for the next state government to address these, and how optimistic he is that the state's Law Society can work collaboratively with the incoming government. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: While appearing on CNN with host Pamela Brown, pollster Frank Luntz said that the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling against Donald Trump ostensibly validates the former president's claim that the deep state is out to get him. Luntz also suggested that this ruling, barring Trump from appearing on Colorado's presidential ballot, all but guarantees Republicans rally around him—ending Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley's presidential campaigns. In response to the Colorado Supreme Court's decision, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick hypothetically suggested “maybe we should take Biden off the ballot [in Texas] for allowing 8 million people to cross the border.” While speaking at a campaign rally in Waterloo, Iowa, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that more needs to be done to stop the flow of migrants across the U.S. Southern border unlawfully. During an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) said that an estimated 270,000 migrants are crossing the U.S. Southern border illegally every month—which, as he notes, is roughly the size of the population of Pittsburgh, PA. How much would the McCallister family trip to France in the classic Christmas film Home Alone cost in 2023? Natalie B. Compton of The Washington Post answered that question in her latest article: an estimated $28,000! You can read the full article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2023/12/19/home-alone-paris-trip-cost/ Is California the next state to bar Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from their presidential ballot? David Zimmerman of National Review writes: “In a letter dated Wednesday, California lieutenant governor Eleni Kounalakis (D) urged California secretary of state Shirley Weber (D) to ‘explore every legal option to remove former President Donald Trump from California's 2024 presidential primary ballot,' given the Colorado supreme court's decision.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/california-lieutenant-governor-calls-for-trump-to-be-removed-from-state-ballot/

We have heard that poll workers received death threats during the 2020 election so it may come as no surprise that it appears Trumpers are at it again. This time, the federal judge overseeing the Trump election interference case in Washington DC is getting threatened by Trump supporters. According to the Huffington Post, here is the voicemail a Texas woman left for U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan: “If Trump doesn't get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you.”Multiple sources are reporting that Arizona may be the next state to file some type of case against former President Trump in connection with tampering with their election process. We'll talk about it with former federal prosecutor David Katz. We will update a story previously reported on the Mark Thompson Show about a young woman in Montana fighting for the environment. There are developments in that case, and we will check in with Belinda Waymouth for her segment, “it's the Planet, Stupid!”
