The Ireland Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced that it is launching a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Hub. Developed to serve as a central hub of AI expertise and education, it will equip the project management profession with the knowledge and skills to integrate AI technologies across their organisations. By enabling project management professionals to leverage AI in their roles to better manage AI projects, the hub will deliver efficiency and automation to organisations. It will also help to address the challenges associated with AI usage, from ethics to governance. In turn, companies of all sizes and across all sectors will be empowered to adopt and implement AI - which has the potential to support innovation, boost competitiveness, and drive growth. This initiative ties in with the significant investment that PMI has made globally in AI over the past 18 months. This includes the creation of an AI platform called PMI Infinity, an AI-powered project management solution designed to strengthen expertise, streamline complex tasks, and maximise project success. Sponsored by business and IT consultancy emagine and set to officially launch on February 13th, the AI Innovation Hub in Ireland will host a number of events throughout 2025, from lunch-and-learns and webinars to hackathons. These hackathons will see project management professionals deploying AI tools to address specific challenges. Overseeing these activities is an AI Working Group within the Ireland Chapter of PMI - led by Declan Foster, the newly appointed Head of the AI Innovation Hub. In his role, Declan will leverage his consulting background and experience with his own startup to promote the adoption of AI and enable change management. Alongside Declan, the AI Working Group includes technical experts, thought leaders and data consultants across multiple sectors such as construction, property and business. The Ireland Chapter of PMI hopes to further grow this group from its now 3,500-strong membership base. Peter Glynne, President of the Ireland Chapter of PMI, said: "AI is such a hot topic and there's a lot of talk around it. The aim of our AI Innovation Hub is to cut through that noise and guide the project management profession through this time of AI change, whilst supporting them to deliver AI change over the coming years. Through collaboration and education, we want to help drive real impact with these fast-evolving technologies across all sectors. "The reality is that every industry needs to be across AI and tuned into the latest developments, such as agentic AI. By tapping into such trends - not just from a knowledge-sharing perspective but practically in our day-to-day jobs - we can enable AI innovation and leadership for the profession, for other sectors, and for Ireland as a whole." Gillian Whelan, CEO of emagine, added: "At emagine, we're empowering our clients to achieve their ambitions by harnessing the transformative power of technology and AI. Steve Gruber discusses news and headlines
Today we speak to a man who has been in and around football for over 40 years. Mark Bowen played over 400 games at the top of English football for the likes of Tottenham, Norwich and West Ham, before transitioning into management as both a head coach and assistant. For much of his management career he has partnered with Mark Hughes, acting as his assistant manager at Man City, Stoke, Southampton, Fulham and QPR. Most recently Mark has spent a number of years with Reading, and is currently going through a delicate process around his exit from the club; a conversation for another time. However this is something that we have wanted to do for a long time. Quite a lot of our shows fall into the more serious ‘business of sport' category. Having got to know Mark, this is someone that has seen the inner workings of clubs transacting at the highest level, and has some incredible stories to tell off the back of it. From being at Man City when they were bought by Sheik Mansour and the Abu Dhabi Group to being in the opposing dugout for QPR when Aguero scored THAT goal, this played to the kid in both of us while emphasising the fact that the business of football isn't always a smooth process. Kick back and enjoy some proper tales of signings, sackings, and outrageous transfer bidding. On today's show we discuss: The birth of the new Man City: Which players did Sheik Mansour want to sign as a statement transfer when he bought the club? How do you integrate a load of new players to form a cohesive team when the money is flowing and budgets are virtually endless. The incredible transfer story of signing both Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta after the sale of one key player, and the conversation he had to have with Kompany when he arrived. Lionel Messi for £35m? How the club accidentally bid for one of the greatest players ever. Why was Mark Hughes fired by the club with the club flying in both the league and cups, and what happens to managers when they get that call? Tales from Stoke, Southampton, and QPR: Turning Stoke into a top performing Premier League club who were able to attract top European talent like Bojan and Shaqiri. Overseeing a QPR team struggling for survival in the League with Joey Barton as captain and Tony Fernandes as owner. The Man City title win story…from the QPR dugout: what does Mark attribute that memorable Aguero moment to? Moving to Southampton and the challenge of managing top teams when there is an agreement to sell players you want to keep. Football vs Money: Harry Redknapp's reaction to Mark leaving West Ham to sign for a Japanese club…and the number that persuaded him the offer was too good to turn down. How to manage your personal life in football when the team takes you away from your family and home. Is it worth it? Is it always about the money, or do players need to be incentivised by other things in and around clubs? Where was Mark at his happiest both as a player and a manager? Deborah Oakes Evans, the retired state district judge who issued the execution warrant for Robert Roberson III earlier this year, has apparently voluntarily decided to recuse herself from the legal proceeding. According to the court filing, Evans signed the order of recusal on Nov. 25. It was not immediately clear why she opted to step aside from the case, which has garnered national and international headlines. In other news, after enduring this year's brutal primary season, Texas Republicans are bracing for another bruising primary pitting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton against U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in 2026. The two politicians, titans in Texas Republican politics, have been circling each other for more than a year, setting up a potential clash that would test the power of Paxton's appeal to hard-right conservatives and Cornyn's strength as a well-funded incumbent and prolific vote-getter. the city of Ennis issued a boil water notice Sunday because of “low water pressure caused by a water main break,” prompting Ennis ISD to cancel classes and activities today for students and staff. Ennis residents are urged to boil their water before using it, including before drinking, cooking, making ice, washing their hands and face, or brushing their teeth. The city will be distributing cases of water at Fire Station No. 1, located at 1700 West Lake Bardwell Drive. And Southwest Airlines says it is ending its cabin service earlier on its flights starting next month. Beginning on Dec. 4, a company spokesperson said, flight attendants will begin preparing the cabin for landing at an altitude of 18,000 feet instead of 10,000 feet. The change in procedure is designed to “reduce the risk of in-flight turbulence injuries” for crew members and passengers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: CEA is hiring a Head of Operations (apply by Sep 16), published by JP Addison on August 16, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Application deadline: September 16th 2024. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We are hiring a Head of Operations to set a newly-independent CEA up for success by establishing our new legal entities, managing our spin-out process, and building a world class operations team. I (JP) am crossposting the whole job description because I think it's a good look into what a really senior ops role looks like, and what CEA in particular has going on behind the scenes. CEA is entering a new era having recently appointed a new CEO and begun the process of spinning out from Effective Ventures (EV) to become an independent organisation. With around 40 staff (and growing), a budget of over $25 million, and an established track record of delivering highly impactful programs, we're uniquely well-positioned to steward the effective altruism community, increase its potential for impact, and its capacity to fulfil that potential. This role is an unusual leadership opportunity to build a team from the ground up within an established organisation. We expect the team to grow quickly, reaching between 5 and 15 people by the time we become independent in 2025. Most or all of these staff will be new to CEA, and our Head of Operations will play a vital role in ensuring the success of a critical team that will be among the largest at CEA and will provide the infrastructure required for us to implement ambitious and complex projects. Exceptional candidates will have the potential to grow into an externally-facing community leadership role with the goal of increasing the impact of value-aligned organisations by helping others implement best practices and creating operational infrastructure that can be used throughout the community. You are well-suited to this senior role if you have experience in operations or systems management and a track record of managing a successful team. You would report to the CEO, and have a significant degree of autonomy in terms of figuring out the best way to achieve our goals and executing plans that deliver them. Given the scale and complexity of our financial, legal and logistical operations, and the potential for growth, we expect this to be an opportunity for top candidates to have a substantial counterfactual impact. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. What would you do? This role would involve two main and related responsibilities: 1. Overseeing the creation of the new legal entities, systems and processes necessary for CEA to exist completely independent of Effective Ventures. 2. Leading an Operations team that delivers excellence across the range of its responsibilities and is a strategic thought partner for other teams' and organisations' operational needs. We expect the spin-out process to take between 12-24 months: faster is better, but we're prioritising making spinning out go well, not necessarily quickly. This process is likely to be complicated and multi-faceted - requiring back and forth with lawyers, external stakeholders, and the relevant regulatory agencies. As part of Effective Ventures, our operational systems and processes are currently provided to us by the EV Ops team. An independent CEA will likely need to be self-sufficient in the following areas (and potentially others):[1] Finance: we have a budget of over $25m, a demanding set of reporting requirements, and many of our projects depend on fast, accurate, and well-documented payments to locations and vendors worldwide. Grantmaking: we support a wide network of community building organisations and individuals with grants that fund their impactful work. Systems: we use and manage a multitude of systems and services, including Salesforce,...

Currently, GenAI can help with tasks such as drafting financial statement disclosures, summarizing key contract terms, categorizing expense transactions, and preparing travel and expense reports. However, GenAI is predictive technology that provides users with a probable response, so it's not going to be 100% accurate and requires human oversight, review, and judgment.Boards should consider the rigor of their GenAI-related governance policies for:- Responsible, ethical use- Expertise and training requirements- Data privacy and security requirements- Deployment, technology testing, and monitoring - Mitigating fraud, legal, regulatory and associated compliance risks Boards should engage in critical conversation with management about their decisions to use GenAI and how they are assessing related risks, including risk introduced by third parties, and the need for new/enhanced controls.Boards should also apply an appropriate risk framework. Asking the auditor how audit procedures are being adjusted to evaluate significant risks associated with use of data and the GenAI models in developing estimates, judgments and other information that has an impact financial reporting and disclosure. This would further include understanding technologies that the auditor may be using to perform their audits.Additional Resources:• CAQ Publication: Auditing in the Age of AI• CAQ Audit in Action: The Age of Generative AI: How the Profession Can Respond
