Weekly Plugs David - Decoding TV Devindra - Engadget Podcast: Pixel 9a review + Bracing for tariffs Jeff - runjeffrun.com The Summer Movie Wager is a game that we play during the summer of each year. You can find the history of the game and play along at thesummermoviewager.com (thanks to Dennis for putting that site together). The general goal of this game is to predict the highest grossing films of the summer in terms of domestic box office, in the correct order. The closer you get to the final ranked order, the more points you get. This year, the summer movie wager will begin on May 1, 2025 (with the release of Thunderbolts) and last through September 1, 2025, Labor Day, as usual.  Each of your 13 picks (10 movies and 3 dark horses) gets a single score assigned to it by using the following rules:  -If your picked movie for #1 OR #10 is correct, you score 13 points for it.  -If your picked movie for 2-9  is correct, you score 10 points for it.  -If your picked movie is only 1 spot away from its actual placement, you score 7 points for it.  -If your picked movie is only 2 spots away from its actual placement, you score 5 points for it.  -If your picked movie is placed inside the Top 10, you score 3 points for it.  -If your picked movie is not placed inside the Top 10, you score 0 points for it.  -For each of your picked dark horses placed inside the Top 10, you score 1 point. If two or more rules apply to a single pick, only that single rule will be applied which assigns the highest point value to that pick. We talk with our friend, Peter Sciretta from @OrdinaryAdventures, about the difficult task of retelling the story of the now-closed Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Their recently released 4-hour video is the closest thing we have to the full story but there's still so much that didn't make the cut. We also discuss other formats that could be used to capture the tale of this one-of-a-kind experience and muse about whether we could see it come back in other ways…or maybe even another country. In The News: (og Erin) Reese Witherspoon To Return For Election Sequel Tracy Flick Can't Win At Paramount + (og Vespe): Jason Momoa Could Be Lobo And Other Big Changes Coming To The New DC UniverseGunn's tweets Gunn and Safran supposedly want a completely fresh slate, which means a final curtain call on the Zack Snyder era of DC. The upcoming "Flashpoint" film is allegedly the last time we'll see the Zack Snyder version of your favorite heroes in cameo form Wonder Woman 3 Will Not Be Moving ForwardPatty Jenkins' Departure From Wonder Woman 3 Sounds Rather ThornyThe Wrap alleges that Wonder Woman 3 was not a direct cancelation by the studio but that director and co-writer Patty Jenkins declined to rewrite her treatment, effectively walking off the project. According to their sources, the treatment for Wonder Woman 3 was given not only to DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran but Warner Bros. executives Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. While all four figures believed the treatment needed edits, Gunn and Safran were apparently not involved in the final decision whatsoever — De Luca, Abdy, and Jenkins reportedly had a heated discussion about the treatment, with the latter standing firm on her vision for the character, and the trio unable to compromise,  The insider source told the trade that Jenkins "doesn't want to allow" Gunn or Safran "a seat at the table," while also claiming that Jenkins believed that De Luca and Abdy "didn't understand her" or Wonder Woman. I'm skeptical. Of course, Jenkins supposedly walked off Thor 2 and Rogue Squadron due to creative disagreements. So the film might not be canceled after all but Patty Jenkins won't be making the movie. Henry Cavill is not likely to return for his own "Superman" movieAppearance in Black Adam, announcing Superman is back and Cavill leaving Witcher after season 3 Black Adam is not getting any sequelsweird box office stories Jason Momoa's Aquaman will have his last big screen hoorah in the upcoming sequel "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom." Shocker? Momoa could star in a Lobo movieEric Vespe describes Lobo as a galactic bounty hunter who looks like Rob Zombie got melded with Arnold Schwarzenegger and the entire band KISS in full makeup and costume. He's a hardcore, kind of punk anti-hero, and Momoa is just about the most perfect actor to play that part. In The Mailbag: Gert from The Netherlands writes in “When it comes to the future of the Indiana Jones franchise, deep faking Harrison Ford for a feature length movie could be done - but shouldn't be done. That being said I doubt Ford would ‘sell' his likeness to be used for all of eternity ;)  I always thought a series following a young group of archeological students (taught by Jones) on many adventures - could work. Throw in a few ‘legacy' characters like Mutt or Short Round to tie everything together.  The show would simply be called: RAIDERS. It borrows from the original title of the first film and should be recognizable enough using the right font.” Robert V writes in “On Friday's podcast you mentioned that you think that Indiana Jones might die in the new movie. Rest assured he will not die. On the show ‘The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles' there was a scene that featured an Indiana Jones in his 90s. Unless Disney had decided that the show isn't canon anymore, it should still be true.” In The News: Avatar: The Way Of Water Early Buzz: James Cameron Does It Again In Visually Stunning And Emotional Return To PandoraAre you surprised? On the October 14, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film editor Brad Oman to have a spoiler-filled discussion about She-Hulk Episode 9 “Whose Show Is This?” Opening Banter:  In The Spoiler Room: She-Hulk Episode 9 “Whose Show Is This?” FeedbackNathan from Canada writes in: “The moment Matt Murdoch says, “I'm Daredevil” you can actually hear the Netflix  daredevil theme playing in the background. Could that little Daredevil theme subtly imply that these 2 universes are one? Also You said that the only way to get Hulk blood from She-Hulk is in her She-Hulk form. Not to play the “umm… actually” card, but didn't Jennifer Walters get her She-Hulk powers from Bruce's blood? Even while in regular human form? I think having an extra strong vibranium syringe, just makes it easier to get her blood regardless her form, since it's probably more difficult to sneak attack a Hulk with a normal syringe. We saw how that end in that “street fight”. Brief reactions Breakdown  Speculation Matthew writes in “The MCU version of Skaar is obviously very different from the Marvel Comics version, in which a very angry Skaar travels to Earth in an attempt to kill the Hulk. We only see Skaar in She-Hulk for a few seconds but it seems clear that he is very different from the comics. He isn't full of rage but instead comes across as very shy. I think this lines up with my theory of Skaar joining the Young Avengers and replacing the character Hulkling. Now the big question is when will the Young Avengers appear? I have no idea if they plan to make a tv show or movie with the Young Avengers but I think it's going to happen before the end of the Multiverse Saga. As I think now all the Young Avengers characters have been introduced and one of the more prominent story arcs with the Young Avengers is with Kang the Conqueror. Now one of the big differences between Hulking and Skaar as characters is that Hulkling is gay and eventually gets married to Wiccan, one of Wanda's sons who is also a Young Avenger. Will Marvel Studios make Skaar gay or is using his character instead of Hulkling a way of Disney side stepping that issue so that the Young Avengers tv series or movie can be carried large markets like China? I do think using Skaar streamlines the convoluted storyline that is Hulkling's origin and that's a good thing but I've come to realize there might be business reasons why Marvel Studios is doing this which would be unfortunate for LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU.   All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com.  You can subscribe to /Film Daily on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (RSS).  Send your feedback, questions, comments and concerns to us at peter@slashfilm.com. The previous five films are plots about dinosaurs. This one is a story about characters in a world in which they coexist with dinosaurs. For the franchise to be able to move forward — because it's inherently unfranchisable, there probably should have only been one ‘Jurassic Park' – but if we're gonna do it, how can I allow them to tell stories in a world in which dinosaurs exist, as opposed to, here's another reason why we're going to an island?” Do we really believe there will be more Jurassic World sequels? 'Avatar' won the best cinematography with a 3D digital camera. No digital camera had ever won the best cinematography Oscar before. Then two out of the three subsequent years, the same cameras were used by the cinematographers that won the Oscar. So you got 3 out of 4 years where the Academy embraced digital cinematography. And all 3 of those films were in 3D." "3D appears to most people to sort of be 'over.' But it's really not over. It's just been accepted. It's just now a part of your choices when you go to the theater to see a big blockbuster movie ... I liken it to color. When color films first came out, it was a big deal. People would go to see movies because they were in color. I think around the time of 'Avatar,' people used to go to see movies because they were in 3D ... I think it had an impact on how films were presented that's now just sort of accepted and part of the zeitgeist and how it's done."   All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. Now Six more upcoming animated projects have been canceled, including "Batman: Caped Crusader," the follow-up to "Batman: The Animated Series" from executive producers Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves. Were you excited about this one? Seems like a home run? Additional projects getting the shaft include "Merry Little Batman," "Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story," "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie," and two different "Looney Tunes" films, "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" and "Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical." Fortunately, production on all of the projects is expected to continue with the intent to shop them around to other platforms outside of HBO Max. WB always was a filmmaker investment studio Aquaman 2 Swims To Christmas 2023 And Evil Dead Rise Heads To Theaters As Warner Bros. Shuffles ScheduleJames Wan's "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" requires additional time in post-production, likely due to the recent reshoots. The release date has been pushed back yet again to a December 25, 2023 release date, after previously being set for a March 2023 release.  David F. Sanberg's "Shazam: Fury of the Gods" will now be released in March, presumably taking advantage of the vacant IMAX screens. HBO Max originals are nowgetting a theatrical release next year instead. "Evil Dead Rise" has been set for April 21, and Lebron James' reboot of "House Party" will now open in theaters on December 9. "The Nun 2” has been scheduled for September 8, 2023. And the upcoming Stephen King adaptation "Salem's Lot" has been taken off the calendar entirely, leaving its April 21, 2023 spot vacant for now. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit notes that the studio only has enough money to release two movies between now and the end of 2022: "Don't Worry Darling" and "Black Adam."  Ryan: Why Releasing Halloween Ends On Peacock And In Theaters Is A Bad IdeaWorth mentioning: Peacock Is Slashing The Price On Its Premium Tier Peter (og Joshua): Marvel's New Fantastic Four Movie Will Be Directed By WandaVision's Matt Shakmanthe filmmaker behind every episode of "WandaVision" and several episodes of "Game of Thrones", "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, "Happy Endings," "Mad Men," "The Boys," "Fargo," and "Succession"  He's directed over 50 episodes of tv Marvel officially announced the development of a new "Fantastic Four" movie in late 2020, with "Spider-Man" trilogy filmmaker Jon Watts attached to direct, but a few months later, Watts stepped away from the project.  Brad: Matt Shakman No Longer Directing Star Trek 4   Also mentioned:      All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. On the August 25, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film editor Brad Oman to have a spoiler-filled discussion about She-Hulk Episode 2 “Superhuman Law” Opening Banter:    In The Spoiler Room: She-Hulk Episode 2 “Superhuman Law” FeedbackMatthew from Toronto, Canada writes in “You mentioned the possibility of bringing in Hulk's son. Since time runs differently on Sakaar, Hulk's son could already be an adult. As they showed in Thor: Ragnarok when Thor was behind Loki by just a few seconds but arrived several weeks after.  There are some theories online that the MCU might be trying to set up World War Hulk. However, I'm speculating something a bit different in that Marvel will use Hulk's son for the Young Avengers. As there's a character among the Young Avengers called Hulkling. In the comics, he isn't the son of Hulk but a Super Skrull who shapeshifts mainly as a teenage Hulk. In the comics he is also the son of the original Captain Mar-vell and a Skrull princess, the heir to the Skrull Empire. I don't think that would work with the changes made with Captain Mar-vell and the Skrulls in the Captain Marvel movie.  Making Hulkling the son of Hulk removes the convoluted backstory and means the MCU has one more character for some sort of Young Avengers project. Also it gives Hulk a new story arc that can be a sort of b plot in several Marvel Movies, rather than something as story heavy as World War Hulk which I think would require the Hulk to have his own movie.” Brief reactions Breakdown  Speculation    Also mentioned:      All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. When I use my AMC membership to see a movie at AMC, are they paying themselves for each ticket?   Is someone seeing Spiderman: No Way Home three times a week under their membership counted the same as someone paying "out of pocket" and seeing it just as often?
