Robert Winfree, Alexis Hejna and Mark Radulich present their Companion 2024 Movie Review!Companion is a 2025 American science fiction thriller film written and directed by Drew Hancock. It stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid as a couple on a weekend getaway with friends at a remote cabin, which unravels into chaos after a revelation that one of the guests is a companion robot. Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend also appear in supporting roles.Companion was released in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on January 31, 2025. The film received positive reviews from critics.On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 94% of 158 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.6/10. The website's consensus reads: "A fiendishly clever contraption that doesn't rest on the laurels of its twists, Companion thrillingly puts the demented into domestic bliss." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 72 out of 100, based on 35 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. Brad went to see Jojo Rabbit. Watched Let It Snow on Netflix.  Chris watched Hobbs and Shaw, The Kitchen, and The Devil Next Door.  Jacob saw The Irishman and watched The Imagineering Story, Frozen, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Hoai-Tran visited Sleepy Hollow, did a nighttime tour of the cemetery and went to The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze. What we've been Reading:Jacob read The Outsider by Stephen King. Ben read Game of Thrones: The Costumes. What we've been Watching:Chris, Jacob, and Ben saw Doctor Sleep. Chris and Jacob watched the new episodes of BoJack Horseman. Peter watched a few of the new Apple TV+ shows including The Morning Show and For All Mankind. He also watched some new Disney+ shows but is embargoed until next week. Jacob saw Jojo Rabbit, finished Undone, watched the first two episodes of Watchmen, Eli, Dracula 2000, and rewatched The Silence of the Lambs. Brad watched Dolemite Is My Name, and the first episode of The Imagineering Story, but he also can't talk about it yet. Ben watched The Shining, Knives Out, Arsenic and Old Lace, Hocus Pocus, The Addams Family, and The Addams Family Values Hoai-Tran saw Harriet, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, did a double Guillermo del Toro feature of Cronos and The Devil's Backbone, and saw Parasite again. What we've been Eating:Brad discovered chocolate-dipped Biscoff cookies, tried Mystery Oreos, Hershey's Whoppers Bar, Milky Way Salted Caramel, Sparkling Caramel Apple Juice. Hoai-Tran made Vietnamese beef stew in her instant pot, which was easier than she thought it would be! Ben read Game of Thrones: A Guide to Westeros and Beyond What we've been Watching:Ben, Chris, HT and Peter watched the pilot of HBO's Watchmen HT and Ben saw Jojo Rabbit. Peter saw almost 30 minutes of The Mandalorian at the junket, watched Zombieland: Double Tap, binge watched the entire season of Unbelievable on Netflix, finished watching HBO's Years after Years, he tried watching Dark Crystal and Stumptown, and saw Between Two Ferns: The Movie on Netflix. Jacob saw Doctor Sleep but can't tell you about it. Jacob went to the House of Torment haunted house and is embarking on a haunted house road trip. Brad was disappointed in Triple Force Friday offerings, but still bought a few things. Ben celebrated his birthday in Hawaii. Hoai-Tran has been running around New York Comic-Con. What we've been Reading:Jacob read Ring by Koji Suzuki. Ben read The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie. What we've been Watching:Peter and Chris saw Gemini Man in 120 frames per second, and Ben saw it in 24 frames per second.  Peter has also been watching the new season of Survivor: Island of the Idols. Brad saw Joker. Peter and Jacob also saw Joker (for Peter it was a second time), but we talked about that on Monday's spoiler discussion.  Brad watched In the Shadow of the Moon. Jacob watched the first episode of Marianne, Final Prayer, What Lies Beneath, The Thomas Crown Affair, and finally started season 2 of Succession. Ben watched The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and Furie.  Chris watched Haunt.  Hoai-Tran saw the pilot of Watchmen, finally saw Parasite. What we've been Eating:Peter tried Fanta Strawberry Zombie Fusion at AMC Theatres. It's a special exclusive Halloween flavor in the Coke freestyle machine. On the October 4, 2019 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film managing editor Jacob Hall and writer Chris Evangelista to debate Martin Scorsese's recent comments about superhero movies.   The Topic: Martin Scorsese Doesn't Like Superhero Movies and the Internet is Really Mad About It While doing press for The Irishman, Martin Scorsese said the following about superhero movies: “I don't see them. I tried, you know? But that's not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."   The Question: Is Martin Scorsese belittling superhero movies and those who make and enjoy them?   The Rules: Only one person can speak at a time. When the speaker is out of time, they must stop talking. Personal insults are not allowed! At The Water Cooler: What we've been Doing:Peter went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, and decided stupidly to film it with a gimbal (the Zeebill Lab). He also went to Disneyland this weekend to experience Halloweentime, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark. In the process he decided to get a Halloween Tree. Jacob is preparing for Fantastic Fest in the only way he can: by stressing out. Chris just got back from TIFF, but is getting ready to go to Fantastic Fest for the first time.  Ben's parents came to visit and they saw John Mayer at the Forum. He also saw Middleditch and Schwartz, which was hilarious.  What we've been Reading:Jacob has gone and gotten himself addicted to SCP again. What we've been Watching:Peter revisited What About Bob? Jacob watched Tigers Are Not Afraid and Haunt. Brad saw Ready or Not. Ben watched Hustlers, Anatomy of a Murder, The VVitch, One Cut of the Dead, and Millennium Actress Hoai-Tran saw It Chapter Two, Ms. Purple, Chained for Life, Synonyms, the new season of Terrace House. Chris saw a bunch of great stuff at TIFF (listen to the TIFF podcast for that). He also watched Men In Black: International and the new Aladdin.  What we've been Eating:Peter was briefly back on diet, and finally took Jacob's keto recommendation of eating ramen with no noodles at Ippudo ramen.
