Paramount Pictures is taking the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) franchise into bold new territory with an R-rated live-action movie adaptation of 'The Last Ronin', as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. This latest project, which is drawing from the darker and more mature themes of the original IDW comics, is under the guidance of former DC Studios head Walter Hamada and his production company, 18hz. 'The Last Ronin' is set in a dystopian future where all but one of the Ninja Turtles have died, presenting a solitary and battle-hardened survivor navigating a grim world. This adaptation is inspired by works like God of War, showcasing a stark departure from the often light-hearted and family-friendly tone the series is known for. Screenwriter Tyler Burton Smith, known for his work on 'Boy Kills World' and the 'Child's Play' reboot, is crafting the script. The story is based on an original 1987 outline by TMNT creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, who also penned the comic series first released in 2020. Their involvement suggests a faithful yet fresh interpretation of their much-loved characters. With an R-rating, the film promises to delve into the more violent and serious aspects of the Ninja Turtles saga, addressing long-standing challenges of portraying the turtles' weaponry realistically within the constraints of more family-oriented ratings. Fans can expect a darker, more intense cinematic experience that honors the original vision of Eastman and Laird.
Hey everyone, the sequel to the 2018 $1B-dollar grossing Aquaman has now released and apparently, it is the final film of the DCEU and the current era of DC films... before James Gunn's DCU kicks off with Max's Creature Commandos in 2024. The first film in the DCU will be Gunn's Superman: Legacy. Getting back to Aquaman, I highly enjoyed the first movie and have really dug the trailers for this sequel but the rumors of extensive plot reworking and poor test screenings over the past two years have had me concerned. So, does James Wan deliver yet another over the top, bombastic blockbuster or does the DCEU end on a ginormous fizzle? Find out in this NON-SPOILER review. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom: Directed by: James Wan Screenplay by: David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick Story by: James Wan & David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Jason Momoa & Thomas Pa'a Sibbett Aquaman created by: Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris Produced by: Rob Cowan, Peter Safran, James Wan Executive Producers: Michael Clear, Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman Music by: Rupert Gregson-Williams Cinematography by: Don Burgess Editing by: Kirk M. Morri Casting by: Anna McCarthy, Kellie Roy, Lucinda Syson Production Design by: Bill Brzeski, Sahby Mehalla Costume Design by: Richard Sale Cast: Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman Synopsis: Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father's death and wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. To defeat him, Aquaman must turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance in order to save the world from irreversible destruction.
Hey everyone, the introduction of the first DCU hero (in the words of James Gunn) - Blue Beetle - has now arrived in theaters, with Xolo Maridueña in the title role. I have loved the character of Blue Beetle (albeit the Ted Kord version) for a long time and he's a character who's deserved more of a spotlight than he's been given by DC over the past few decades. This project was very interesting because it originally was set for an HBO Max release (now Max) but then moved to theatrical distribution. So, is Blue Beetle the film that will turn around DC's recent box office woes... or is it another generic superhero movie? Find out in this review! Blue Beetle: Directed by: Ángel Manuel Soto Written by: Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer Original Writers: John Rogers, Cully Hammer, Keith Giffen Produced by: Zev Foreman, John Rickard, K.C. Welcome to our review for THE FLASH. We are joined by Philip Guillet as well as Joe Vitale from The Vintage Geeks Podcast. Warner Bros. Pictures presents “The Flash,” directed by Andy Muschietti (the “IT” films, “Mama”). Ezra Miller reprises their role as Barry Allen in the DC Super Hero's first-ever standalone feature film.Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?“The Flash” ensemble also includes rising star Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon (“Bullet Train,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”), Ron Livingston (“Loudermilk,” “The Conjuring”), Maribel Verdú (“Elite,” “Y tu mamá también”), Kiersey Clemons (“Zack Snyder's Justice League,” “Sweetheart”), Antje Traue (“King of Ravens,” “Man of Steel”) and Michael Keaton (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “Batman”).“The Flash” is produced by Barbara Muschietti (the “IT” films, “Mama”) and Michael Disco (“Rampage,” “San Andreas”). Hey everyone, welcome back to another review here on MOVIE MORNING and today, I finally review one of my most anticipated movies of the year: The Flash. Wow, the narrative on this film has changed SO MUCH over the past number of years. Initially learning that cameras were FINALLY rolling on a Flash film, who is my 2nd favorite DC character of all-time, and that Michael Keaton (& Ben Affleck) would make appearances were so exciting but everyone's excitement was drowned out last year due to the Ezra Miller controversy. Then, as soon as the trailers and news about how good this movie was dropped, everybody's hype level, including my own, shot back up and I have been EAGERLY anticipating this day. At long last, here is my review of THE FLASH in a spoiler-free fashion. Hey everyone, the sequel to the 2019 DC hit - Shazam! Fury of the Gods - has now hit theatres. I, unfortunately, had to wait a to see it because I was a little under the weather but I have now seen it and I can finally understand what people've been saying about this for the past couple of days. While I was a fan of the first Shazam!, this was easily my least anticipated DC film of the year because the trailers just seemed like this sequel had lost all of the heart and charm of the first movie, trading it for generic superhero stuff. Was I right in my concerns... or is Shazam! Fury of the Gods a GREAT entry into the DCEU? Find out in this SPOILER-FREE review. Shazam! Fury of the Gods: Directed by: David F. MOVIE DISCUSSION: Melvin & Dan discuss the latest entry in the troubled, frustrating, and extremely strange DC Universe. This time it features fan-and-mom favorite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson donning a cool black suit and looking maliciously confused. Neat! Topics: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 35-minutes talking about Walter Hamada stepping down from the DCU, James Gunn replacing him, and the lack of cultural permanence DC has compared to Marvel, or even Horror/Slasher icons. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Daniel briefly details the 15-year journey Dwayne Johnson took to get Black Adam made, featuring himself in the titular role. Melvin & Dan agree: The first half of the film is pretty dang fun, albeit nothing new. Despite a marginally enjoyable experience, Melvin feels like it's "a movie that I'm already tired of seeing", one that has been made for the last decade and a half. Every two years the DCU has shifted and turned and changed its mind; do we really care anymore? Does it matter? Why even bother speculating? Black Adam's trailer, its opening exposition drop, and its plotline all tell a different story about Black Adam's origin, which is obviously cleared up by the film as it unfolds but makes the experience of watching the movie extremely confusing. Apparently, parts of Black Adam were "Rated R" worthy, and the current product in theaters is a trimmed edit to reach a PG-13. Melvin wonders which scenes were different. Apart from Black Adam feeling like most mid-Marvel flicks, it's also a superhero film releasing after Marvel had, like, 5-7 film and TV projects. The Superhero genre is feeling especially tired in 2022. Discussing Darren Mooney's Escapist Review of Black Adam where he felt the film was functionally worse than Morbius for various reasons. Melvin proposes that HBOmax start putting up the R-rated cuts of DC flicks since they can't seem to decide what they want with their DC films. "I've been on a show -- namely Witcher -- where some of the writers were not [fans] or actively disliked the books and games, even actively mocking the source material. It's a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos and makes all the long nights worth it. You have to respect the work before you're allowed to add to its legacy." In this episode: Henry Cavill is officially back as Superman, Walter Hamada has officially left Warner Bros, Ant-Man 3 trailer reactions, and David Tennant is back in Doctor Who. In the spoilery second half of the episode, we are reviewing: Black Adam, Season 1 of She-Hulk, Season 1 of The Rings of Power, and Season 1 of House of the Dragon
Welcome to Episode 442 and we are reviewing BLACK ADAM. Full spoilers in the episode as we rate and review the movie and the theorize on the future of Black Adam. We are joined by Joe Stark (StarkCast podcast), Tristan Brown as well as first time guest from The Vintage Geeks podcast, Joe Vitale! We talk about what we liked and didn't like in the movie as well as that mid-credits scene and theorize on what the future is for the DCEU and Black Adam. From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action adventure “Black Adam.” The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the DC Super Hero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (“Jungle Cruise”). In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam was bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed and Black Adam has gone from man, to myth, to legend. Now released, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone. Johnson stars alongside Aldis Hodge (“City on a Hill,” “One Night in Miami”) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (“To All the Boys I've Loved Before”) as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi (“Sex/Life,” “Rush Hour 3”), Marwan Kenzari (“Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Mummy”), Quintessa Swindell (“Voyagers,” “Trinkets”) as Cyclone, Mo Amer (“Mo,” “Ramy”), Bodhi Sabongui (“A Million Little Things”), and Pierce Brosnan (the “Mamma Mia!” and James Bond franchises) as Dr. Fate. Collet-Serra directed from a screenplay written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, based on characters from DC, based on characters created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. The film's producers are Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, with Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Chris Pan, Walter Hamada, Adam Schlagman, Geoff Johns, Eric McLeod and Scott Sheldon executive producing. The director's behind-the-scenes creative team includes Oscar-nominated director of photography Lawrence Sher (“Joker”), production designer Tom Meyer (“Real Steel”), editors Mike Sale (“Red Notice,” “Skyscraper”) and John Lee (“Anyone Home?”), costume designers Kurt and Bart (“Deadpool 2,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & 2”), Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer (“Life of Pi,” “Wonder Woman”), and composer Lorne Balfe (“Black Widow”). New Line Cinema Presents a Seven Bucks/Flynn Co. Production, A Jaume Collet-Serra Film, “Black Adam,” smashing into theaters and IMAX internationally beginning 19 October 2022, in North America on October 21, 2022. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Did you know the MCU is controlled by K.E.V.I.N? Just like how NNN is hosted by N.I.C.K. Anywho, ignore the man behind the curtain, this week we have some big gaming news: Valve updates the steam app, Razer is making a cloud gaming hanheld, the DualSense gets an upgrage, and Silent Hill is officially coming back. Meanwhile Scorsese is making a Gangs of New York show, and Alan Moore hates the Watchmen show too. Harrison Ford joins the MCU, while WarnerBros continues to make the strangest decisions regarding the DCEU, at least Henry is back for Man of Steel 2.
Creed 3 has released new images of Michael B Jordan and rising superstar Jonathan Majors in a promotional shot for the film. Is a trailer coming soon? What do we think of the movie? Does the Stallone absence hurt it? Henry Cavill is back as Superman? If so, rumors have writers being pitched to write Superman 2, who will get it and who should? Did Dwayne Johnson go around Walter Hamada to get Cavill back in the DC universe? Halloween Ends disappoints at box office or does it? Was the day-and-date release on streaming a bad move or smart one for Universal? Black Adam almost had a R rating. An explosive THR article has dropped, and I get into all the deets from Man of Steel 2's new status, where The Flash 2 and Wonder Woman 3 sit, the myriad Matt Reeves projects in the works (Scarecrow!? Professor Pyg!? CLAYFACE!!!?) And of course how The Rock went over Walter Hamada's head to get us what we've all been wanting! Also, stuff about James Gunn having mystery DC projects (but we already knew that).
On today's episode the gang discusses: 1) Man of Steel 2 in Early Development, Walter Hamada Tried to Sabotage Superman Cameo in Black Adam 2) Kevin Spacey Claims he Couldn't Come Out as Gay Because His Father Was a White Supremacist 3 )She-Hulk Director Wanted to Make a Show With Sex Scenes That Kids Could Watch...WTF
