Quick question: Name something former presidents have in common. How about: Begging for money! "I would say parenthetically that one of the things that brings former presidents closest together is the extremely onerous and burdensome task of begging for enough money to build a presidential library from private sources; not from the government, and then turn it over to the federal government in perpetuity as a repository for the records of our great nation." That was Jimmy Carter … speaking at the dedication of Ronald Reagan's Library … November 4th, 1991. On June 18th, 2026, another presidential library is dedicated: Barack Obama's. You might be wondering: how much do these things cost? Why should taxpayers support presidential libraries? What do political opponents say about each other at library dedications? What do losing presidents say about the guys who beat them? Which presidential library opening included protests and police intervention? And what was one of the most amazing things ever said on C-SPAN about presidential libraries – from a legendary presidential historian? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Thomasina Clark, Sheryl Rogers and Peggy Neely-Harris, all retired teachers and members of the St. Louis arts community are headed to Chicago later this week for the opening of the Presidential Library of Barack Obama. They joined Megan Lynch. All feel a deep connection to the 44th President -- the first African American President of the United States.
On June 18th, Barack Obama speaks at the dedication of his presidential library. What will he say? Well, here's what another president said when his library opened: "Proverbially, old men plant trees even though they do not expect to see their fruition. Well, so it is with presidents. The doors of this library are open now, and all are welcome. The judgment of history is left to you, the people. I have no fears of that, for we have done our best, and so I say, come and learn from it." That was Ronald Reagan ... November 4th, 1991 ... And joined by fellow former presidents George Bush, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon — and the Democrat he defeated in 1980, Jimmy Carter. In the latest episode of C-SPAN's podcast "Extreme Mortman," we revisit 10 dedication and re-dedication ceremonies of presidential libraries - featuring best-of moments from each of them. What do presidents say about their libraries? What do presidents say about other presidents' libraries? And what do First Ladies say about their husbands' libraries? Find out in this week's "Extreme Mortman" — the first of a special two-part episode. And we're joined by a very special guest — presidential historian and author Dr. Tevi Troy. Barack Obama's entire political career was built on image. The logo, the posters the "citizen of the world" speeches. The “hope and change.” The global adoration, the fainting crowds and the messianic language from the media. The Nobel Peace Prize before he had done anything to earn it. The carefully produced cultural aura surrounding him was always bigger than the man himself. Now that image has been literally poured into concrete and granite, with the result looking exactly like what it always was: cold, controlled, menancing, towering, and spiritually empty.“Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?” Isaiah 2:22 (KJB)On this episode of the Prophecy News Podcast, in 2023, Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions was attached to Netflix's 'Leave The World Behind', the dystopian thriller directed by Sam Esmail in which America begins collapsing through cyberattack, communications failure, infrastructure breakdown, mass confusion, and psychological terror. Netflix identified Higher Ground as part of the project, and the film itself was sold as a story about a mysterious blackout and a nation coming apart under invisible forces. Now take that imagery and place it side by side with Obama's new Presidential Library in Chicago. On one side, you have Obama's Netflix-backed dystopian nightmare: America cut off, Americans confused, phones dead, media gone, planes falling, tankers crashing, trust evaporating, and citizens left to wonder who is really behind the collapse. The end of the movie reveals it to be the American government. On the other side, you have Obama's real-world presidential tower that is massive, dark, nearly windowless, and standing over Chicago like the headquarters of the people who would remain after the collapse was complete. The official story is “democracy,” “hope,” “community,” and “civic engagement.” But the visual story is something very different. The visual story is granite, height, surveillance-age design, digital archives, curated memory, political legacy, and a near-religious treatment of a man whose presidency accelerated America's transformation into the globalized, technocratic, identity-driven, post-Christian system we are watching harden all around us. It is literally a depiction of George Orwell's '1984'. The UK Guardian said "Towering over a low-income area of Chicago, and wrapped in a speech that's hard to decipher, this controversial monolith feels like a menacing sci-fi HQ. Is it a monument – or a mausoleum?" That's a great question, and today we bring you all the news you need to know here on Day 2,270 of 15 Days To Flatten The Curve!

After years of construction, almost a billion dollars in costs and controversy over the design, the Obama Presidential Library is set to open in just a few weeks' time in Chicago. Never to be outdone by his longtime Democratic rival, Donald Trump is also currently pushing ahead with his own library in Miami, setting up a battle of architectural vanity, legacy and fundraising capacity. But how has the Presidential Library System evolved over the years? Reporter Simon Tierney joined Pat to Explain.

AI and Digital Leadership: Transforming Libraries, Archives, and Museums for the Future (Bloomsbury, 2026) explores how galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAMs) are navigating new leadership styles and organizational frameworks to help meet the challenges posed by a digital society. During this time of digital transformation, galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAMs) are facing a generational challenge that calls on them to rethink their roles and responsibilities, re-evaluate policies and practices, and re-envision creative management and use of their collections. While AI is not new for GLAMs, the rapid development of generative AI has accelerated the pace of change along with a host of risks and benefits. For cultural heritage institutions, the stakes for implementing emerging AI technologies are high as GLAMs navigate questions relating to cultural relevance, limited resources and expanding backlogs of digital collections. GLAMs must also contend with the major intellectual and social implications for supporting entirely new approaches to learning, scholarship and public engagement. As GLAMs strive to keep pace, this book turns to explore how cultural heritage institutions can draw on a model of digital leadership to help them meet the challenges posed by the ethical implementation and use of generative AI in the stewardship of distinctive collections. Although digital leadership has been widely written about in the fields of business management, communication and marketing and information technology, it has not yet been addressed in a book format for the GLAM sector. In addition to discussing the basic definition and concepts of digital leadership, this book explores digital leadership as a critical framework for GLAMs to advance digital stewardship programs, professional development and staff training initiatives, and institutional advocacy in the age of AI. Guest: Angela I. Fritz is Assistant Professor at the School of Library and Information Science at the University of Iowa. Previously, she has held leadership positions at the Wisconsin Historical Society, the University of Notre Dame, and the Office of Presidential Libraries and Museums at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Dr. Fritz has a PhD in American history and public history from Loyola University-Chicago, a master's degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a master's degree in library science with a concentration in archival administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mentioned during the episode, is an upcoming special issue of Collections: A Journal for Museum and Archives Practitioners guest edited by Dr. Fritz. This time John's monologue is 2 fold. First he talks about the Trump Mobile "T1" gold smartphone which is still unreleased and has faced non-stop delays, missing its initial August 2025 launch date. Trump is still promising to ship units soon and the website continues to accept $100 deposits on the $499 device. Second, he discusses Miami residents filing a federal lawsuit over land gifted to Trump by the state of Florida for use as his Presidential Library and skyscraper hotel; and the very wrinkly 22 ft golden statue of Trump erected at his National Doral golf course in Miami which local pastors immediately claimed is NOT idolatry. Then, John jokes with actor and podcast star Bob Cesca. They chat about Trump's pregnancy push, his reflecting pool renovation, and the wonders of NY Mayor Zoran Mamdani. Next, Desimber Rose and Dillon Naber Cruz (AKA The God Squad) are back to talk about Trump's gold statue and Trump's big prayer festival this Sunday; according to organizers, it's intended to honor America's Christian roots and rededicate the nation for its 250th anniversary. Then winding it up, legal analyst Dr. Tracy Pearson is back to chat about Kash Patel's goofy testimony lying his pants off before the Senate appropriations subcommittee and Trump's visit to China.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Last month, the Justice Department, in a startling move, issued a challenge the Presidential Records Act--saying that the bedrock law for keeping Oval Office archives available to the public goes too far. Ironic, considering how Donald Trump has boasted about his presidential library—the home of presidential archives—which renderings show to be a skyscraper (and possibly hotel) in downtown Miami. Last summer, Brooke spoke with Tim Naftali, a Senior Research Scholar at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs, about how President Trump has raised millions of dollars his future presidential library already, and why it should matter to the rest of us. The Presidential Library system is officially broken. Obama's $850M park grab is an insult, and the Biden "bookmobile" shows the era is ending. It's time to end the federal maintenance racket and move all presidential records to a central, efficient Smithsonian model. Stop the perpetual taxpayer funding of political ego! Historically, presidential libraries have been used as research hubs to house documents and artifacts from a president's time in the White House. They're also a living monument to a president's legacy. Less than a year into President Donald Trump's second term, planning for his presidential library is underway, with $50 million already raised from undisclosed donors.Co-host Colby Itkowitz speaks with national political investigative reporter Michael Kranish about how presidential libraries and museums are usually created and why Trump's private fundraising foundation could allow history to be misrepresented at his future library.Today's show was produced by Thomas Lu and mixed by Sean Carter. Buck reacts to the design of the Obama Presidential Library, calling it one of the ugliest public buildings in recent memory and comparing it to the Obama presidency itself—grand, expensive, and underwhelming. He contrasts the outrage over Trump’s planned White House ballroom renovation with the long history of presidents making updates to the White House. Buck also highlights Trump’s plans for the addition, the media’s reaction, and a quick dive into historical White House renovations. Trump is about to steal $400 million dollars from a poor Miami Florida University to pay for his Presidential Library, unless the Court's stop him. Michael Popok reports from Miami on a new scandal opposed by 60% of mainly Republican Miami Dade County, that would have Miami Dade College transfer a 3 acre empty lot for free to the State and then to Trump for his library, as Trump siphons off the first $15 million and transfers it to a new entity he and his family control. The FCC just approved a lucrative merger between Paramount and Skydance. Weeks earlier, Paramount settled a lawsuit with the president by paying him 16 million dollars. On this week's On the Media, hear how that money is being funneled to Donald Trump's future presidential library. Plus, how conservative outlets are coordinating attacks on universities.[01:00] Host Brooke Gladstone speaks with Tim Naftali, a Senior Research Scholar at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs, about how President Trump has raised millions of dollars from lawsuit settlements with media companies for his future presidential library, and why this matters. [19:23] Host Micah Loewinger speaks with Katherine Mangan, a senior writer at The Chronicle of Higher Education, about the recent investigations launched into George Mason University by the Trump administration, and the media campaign that followed suit.[32:43] Micah sits down with Elizabeth Lopatto, senior writer at The Verge, to dissect the ‘violently racist' background of the hacker who allegedly stole admissions data from five universities, leading to the leak of Zohran Mamdani's Columbia application to the New York Times. Plus, the consequences of the Times omitting any mention of the hacker from their coverage of the leak.Comment from Patrick Healy, Assistant Managing Editor for Standards and Trust at the New York Times: "Our reporters obtained information about Mr. Mamdani's Columbia college application and went to the Mamdani campaign with it. When we hear anything of news value, we try to confirm it through direct sources. Mr. Mamdani confirmed this information in an interview with The Times. Mr. Mamdani shared his thinking about the limitations of identity boxes on forms like Columbia's, and explained how he wrote in “Uganda,” the country of his birth – the kind of decision many people with overlapping identities have wrestled with when confronted with such boxes. We believe Mr. Mamdani's thinking and decision-making, laid out in his words, was newsworthy and in line with our mission to help readers better know and understand top candidates for major offices. We sometimes receive information that has been hacked or from controversial sources. The Times does not solely rely on nor make a decision to publish information from such a source; we seek to confirm through direct sources, which we did with Mr. Mamdani. Sometimes sources have their own motives or obtain information using means we wouldn't, like Trump's taxes, Wikileaks or Edward Snowden. It's important to share what we can about sourcing, but we always independently assess newsworthiness and factual accuracy before publishing. On sourcing, we work to give readers context, including in this case the initial source's online alias, as a way to learn more about the person, who was effectively an intermediary. The ultimate source was Columbia admissions data and Mr. Mamdani, who confirmed our reporting. We heard from readers who wanted more detail about this initial source. That's fair feedback. We printed his online alias so readers could learn more about the person. The purpose of this story was to help illuminate the thinking and background of a major mayoral candidate."
