The 1973 Pascagoula abduction event may be “one of the most credible UFO incidents in modern history”—and it's not the only one. In the 1960s and ‘70s, bizarre sightings of strange creatures and glowing lights in the water began to be reported. But what else could be lurking deep beneath the waves? Under the ice in Greenland, NASA made a startling discovery. Shocking UFO files hidden in the Presidential Library claimed that the US made successful contact with an alien race. Futuristic, alien technology continues to be unveiled, including maybe the strangest use of artificial intelligence seen yet. Dive into all these topics with Edge of Wonder. Then in the Rise TV-exclusive segments, during the Live Q&A, ask Rob your questions directly. Finally, laugh along with the Top 10 Weirder News of the Week. And as always, see you out… on the edge!

Always a joy to have Melita Easters - executive director at the Georgia WIN List - on the show, and today was no exception. As of this episode posting she's interviewing author Elaine Weiss, whose latest book, "Spell Freedom," looks back at the underground schools that built the civil rights movement, The discussion is one previously scheduled at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. Jennifer Schuessler first reported on this and two otther book event cancellations in late February for the New York Times, "raising questions about whether leadership changes at the National Archives and Records Administration were affecting programming at the 13 presidential libraries it oversees."So a speaking event for books on civil rights, homelessness and climate change have no home at the Carter Presidential Library under the Trump presidency. The National Archives chalked it up to "facing staff cuts," with fuure Carter Library events "now needs approval from Washington for all programming."Whatever the case, the broad and thorough "reach" of the Trump administration into every nook-and-cranny of federal governance is obviously concerning. Weiss' book is notable in that - as we speak - Trump and his Department of Education head is seeking to dismantle the federal agency altogether - which puts more power at the state level. What could go wrong except the return of "Lost Cause" history curriculum like that taught to current GOP Senate leaders like Marsha Blackburn and Lindsey Graham?Well Melita and I discussed the Carter Library / National Archives concern, along with a host of other topics (as we usually do). She's rightfully proud of previous WIN Leadership Academy products like Senator Kim Jackson, who managed to craft productive legislation to address homelessness (unlike that of Houston Gaines, who sought to score political points and exacerbate the problem in larger cities). We talk Lucy McBath, Stacy Abrams & so much more.PLUS: The AJC's Patricia Murphy and Jeremy Redmon both dive into the renaming of "Fort Benning" near Columbus, Georgia, and how clumsily Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth manages to dishonor the man and family he chose to rename the base (simply because he shared a last name with a 'mediocre' Confederate general and secessionist slave owner) and the Army veteran and wife whose names were previously affixed to the base.

Episode Summary:The Franklin Delano Library and Museum is an amazing place which just celebrated its 75th anniversary. President Roosevelt had the idea to build the library on his family property in Hyde Park, New York, using private funds. And then he donated the library and its historical collections, including all of his personal and official papers, to the US Government. This started the precedent of Presidential Libraries that we continue today. Last month, we sat down with the FDR Library and its director Bill Harris and had a great discussion about the Federal Writers' Project, its impact then, and why it still matters today. Please join our host Chris Haley, writer-producers David Taylor and James Mirabello and historian Sara Rutkowski for a few highlights from that conversation. You can see the full discussion on the FDR Library's YouTube channel here. Matt talks to Ed O'Keefe, CEO of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation. The pair dive into everything from how a president, whose face is carved on Mount Rushmore, doesn't already have a library, to how one goes about starting and fundraising for, such a massive project. Additionally, they explore the conservation movement that TR started and the bipartisan support he, and the library named in his honor, have garnered in a divided Congress; the importance of knowing when it's time to walk away (and, conversely, when it's important to stay) Ed also sheds light on working for the Emmy winning Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and discusses his newly published book, “The Loves of Theodore Roosevelt: the Women who Created a President”

Laughers, today we step back in time to unravel the complexities of one of America's presidents straight from the heart of Staunton, Virginia. We'll take a deep dive into history with the esteemed curator and director of The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum, Andrew Phillips. Prepare to be transported back to the days of World War I and the gilded age of antitrust overhaul, as Phillips walks us through the legacy of Woodrow Wilson—the good, the bad, and the controversial. Learn about Wilson's push for global togetherness with the League of Nations, his conflicting stance on women's suffrage, and how his administration was an axis of change and regression in American race relations. Unwrap the rich tapestry of the museum's exhibits, from the luxurious Pierce-Arrow limousine—a symbol of pre-Depression American grandeur—to a hauntingly realistic trench exhibit that lets you step into the soldiers' boots of WWI. Don't miss the museum's commitment to presenting the raw truths of Wilson's presidency, giving visitors a chance to ponder his complicated legacy, and decide for themselves about his contributions to our nation's narrative. Andrew also sheds light on the museum's innovative approach to community storytelling, sharing their latest exhibit that connects the Spanish Flu with today's COVID-19 pandemic. Plus, hear how to keep up with mascot "Woolly Wilson" across social media for the latest museum happenings.
