Progressive Democrats of America Tucson Chapter Organizing Meeting on February 22, 2011. The video in this segment has never been published. It was shot in February 2011, just a few months after the Tea Party victories in November 2010, a few weeks after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot at the Safeway Shopping Center in Tucson, Arizona and one year after Citizens United SCOTUS case. Three hundred progressives answered a tiny Tucson Weekly newspaper ad to hear about PDA and progressive activism. It was an exhilarating evening. In talking about the proposed Tea Party budget cuts and tax breaks for the rich, Grijalva foreshadows the struggles we have today. The 2010 election was the first one influenced by the SCOTUS decision that corporations are people and money is speech. Twenty-five years later, the richest man in the world bought the presidency for $270 million in campaign donations. The billionaires are in charge. Grijalva warned us in 2011.Segment 2. Senator Bernie Sanders Presidential Campaign Rally in Reid Park on October 9, 2015. Bernie drew 1000s of people in a rally  in Reid Park in Tucson, Arizona on a lovely fall evening. Grijalva endorsed Bernie for president. This segment is Grijalva's introduction of Bernie. To see all of the videos from that evening, go to my PamelaPowersTucsonProgressive YouTube channel. (I shot a lot of footage that night. It's all broken up by speaker and for Bernie by topic because he talked for like 90 minutes. My camera battery ran out. Bernie's 2015 speeches are inspiring.)Segment 3. Vigil for Democracy on January 6, 2022. One year after the January 6, 2021 Insurrection at the US Capitol, about 100 Tucsonans gathered at the cancer survivors memorial at Reid Park in Tucson, Arizona for a candlelight vigil and thoughtful speeches from local elected officials. This segment is Grijalva's speech. (Forgive the shaky video, I handed my smart phone to a friend, while I waited in line to speak.) You can view all of the speeches from the Vigil for Democracy on this YouTube channel. There is also a podcast. Segment 4. Stop Abortion Bans Rally in Tucson. May 14, 2022. Today's Headlines: Trump is asking the Supreme Court to let him move forward with ending birthright citizenship, despite lower courts already ruling it unconstitutional. His administration is also facing legal battles over mass federal layoffs, with a judge ordering thousands of fired workers to be reinstated. Meanwhile, the economy takes a hit as the stock market drops 10% from its peak, fueled by Trump's latest tariff threats on European alcohol. On the international stage, Putin claims he's open to a Ukraine ceasefire but insists on discussing it with Trump, while the White House quietly explores military options to "reclaim" the Panama Canal. Back in the U.S., Arizona Congressman Raúl Grijalva's passing shifts the balance of power in the House to Republicans. Join Jim and Greg for the Friday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down deep divisions among Democrats over the spending bill, the Virginia GOP's steep challenges in this year's elections, and the House Democrats losing two members in just over a week.First, Republicans finally get a chance to watch Democrats openly feud over whether to pass a spending bill to prevent a partial government shutdown. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer now reluctantly supports the bill, sparking an intense backlash from progressives. Jim also explains how Democrats are struggling to accept their minority status in Congress.Next, they wince at the prospects for Virginia Republicans in this year's elections. They usually don't go well for the party that holds the White House. Virginia is also home to the second most federal employees in the nation, and the DOGE cuts are likely to be unpopular in the DC suburbs. Republicans do have an excellent candidate in Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, but will the headwinds against her be too strong? Finally, they discuss the passing of Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva, marking the second House Democrat to die in under two weeks. They note the oddity of Grijalva's X account continuing to post after his death and also examine how these vacancies will impact the House until special elections are held to fill those vacancies. Please visit our great sponsors:Oracle will cut your cloud bill in half—new US customers only, offer ends March 31st! Briahna Joy Gray: Biden's Crisis, Squad Failures, Jill Stein, and the Path to a New Party

A crisis has engulfed the Democratic Party following the train wreck of the Biden-Trump presidential debate, and Biden's catastrophic performance. On Strike is joined by Briahna Joy Gray, host of the Bad Faith podcast and, until recently, co-host of The Hill Rising, from which she was fired in retaliation for speaking out consistently and courageously against the genocidal war on Gaza. We speak with Gray about the crisis for the Biden administration, the failures of AOC and the Squad–including the recent defeat of Jamaal Bowman in New York–and the path forward for working people, including the important effort to build Jill Stein's independent, antiwar Presidential campaign. Register now for the Inaugural Zoom Conference of Workers Strike Back and join Jill Stein, former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, and Revolutionary Blackout Network's Nick Cruse to discuss and vote on a strategy to build an alternative to the rotten Democratic and Republican Parties, which have blood on their hands both at home and abroad. Register now: www.workersstrikeback.org/events/july-national-mtg Powerful sections of the Democratic Party leadership remain determined to ram Biden down the throats of working people despite the absolute disaster of not only last week's debate, but Biden's candidacy as a whole. In the face of the threat of a second Trump Presidency, they are prepared to risk everything rather than replace their doomed candidate. The pro-Biden Democratic establishment is trying to pretend nothing much has happened. It's a weapon's grade level of political gaslighting. The calls for Biden to step aside have grown, now including two Democratic members of Congress–Lloyd Doggett of Texas and Raúl Grijalva of Arizona. But even as pressure on Biden approaches a boiling point, the so-called progressives in the Democratic Party, including AOC, have remained silent, choosing to preserve their rotten relationship with the political establishment over the interests of working people, who desperately need an alternative to the status quo of crisis and war. Meanwhile, the “alternatives” on offer from the Democratic establishment, like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President Kamala Harris, have equally abysmal records to Biden and would also be beholden to the pro-war anti-working-class agenda of the Democratic Party. If you think the working class needs new and analysis like in this episode, become a member of Workers Strike Back today. By joining Workers Strike Back, you can support the production of On Strike and help us build a fighting workers' movement to fight for what workers need: a $25/hr minimum wage, good union jobs, free universal healthcare, quality affordable housing, and an end to the genocidal war on Gaza. The Book of Mormon Description of Hill Cumorah

We have a very good idea of where Book of Mormon events actually took place. How can there be two Hlll Cumorahs?  The same way there are many "Jefferson Avenues" and "State Streets".  The Book of Mormon text does not fit the small gravel hill by the Smith family farm where Moroni buried the plates.  It does fit the large, prominent hill in the "Tuxtla Mountains" in southern Veracruz, Mexico, east of Mexico City, almost to the Gulf of Mexico, and a little South. The Hill Shim/Cumorah is likely the Mayan hill "Shim" later called the hill "Cintepic" by the Aztecs. Cin=corn tepic=hill.  Mayan and Aztec legends say the corn grown by the base of the hill Shim grows from the blood of their ancestors where the Jeredites and Nephites were slaughtered. The waters of Ripliancum are probably the "Hueyapan River." the River Sidon is most likely the Grijalva river.  The City of Nephi is probably the Kaminaljuyu city ruins on the western edge of Guatamala City.
