In this episode, Thomas Kim, MD joins to discuss ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for anxiety. Dr. Kim is the Chief Medical Officer of Noma Therapy, which is a ketamine-assisted psychotherapy program available via telehealth and in-person with licensed therapists. He has devoted 20 years of his professional life to realizing a value-based approach to healthcare through telehealth. In this conversation, Dr. Kim shares his journey of working in early telehealth contexts to now working with ketamine. He discusses the research on ketamine treatments for anxiety and explains the significant comorbidity of anxiety, depression, and PTSD, stressing that anxiety is best understood from a more holistic perspective that considers the social determinants of health. Dr. Kim also emphasizes the importance of psychotherapy alongside ketamine dosing sessions, explaining that therapists have a window of opportunity in the days following the ketamine dose to best take advantage of the state of ketamine-induced neuroplasticity the patient is experiencing. In closing, Dr. Kim shares his philosophy of prescribing the least amount of medicine which produces the largest impact for the patient to ensure that side effects are mitigated and financial burdens are reduced. In this episode you'll hear: Balancing maximal safety and maximal accessibility in medicine The research on ketamine treatments for anxiety How psychotherapy fits with ketamine treatments The neuroscience of why patients can have strong emotional reactions following ketamine sessions Stories of success from Dr. Kim's practice The importance of understanding how adverse childhood experiences and social determinants of health significantly contribute to mental health struggles Collaborative ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with a patient's existing therapist Quotes: “Over time, continued effort in the field [of telehealth] has led to cost-effective, scalable solutions that can reach more people. I'm really hopeful that we can find solutions in the psychedelic and ketamine landscape to do a similar thing.” [5:36] “A thing that I say routinely to patients is ‘there is no cure in the bottom of the pill bottle—ketamine included.' They are all incredibly useful and, when used effectively, can provide you meaningful relief from your psychological distress but make no mistake, there is not a cure—which is why I'm such a huge advocate of therapy and which is why ketamine-assisted psychotherapy also needs to be distinguished from ketamine therapy.” [14:21] “[We created] an intentionally time-limited plan which places the emphasis on the fact that, one day, you're going to drive your own bus and you're not going to need me. It's a terrible business model—in fact it's a wonderful business model because it gives us an opportunity to take care of more people because we set the intention of ‘Ketamine is not forever. You're not broken. You're struggling and we're going to get you to a place where you might not need us.'” [34:04] Links: Dr. Kim on LinkedIn Noma Therapy website Psychedelic Medicine Association Porangui
At first, Monica Swanson wasn't excited about the possibility of educating her kids at home. Sparked by her eldest son's request, Monica began to see the unique benefits of personalized education and how it has helped her sons flourish. She debunks some common myths about homeschoolers, and gives practical tips for parents considering this path. Quotes “Over time as you homeschool, the confidence builds. As you see their character developing and you see their faith growing, you start to realize this is so much more than just scratching things off a list that they would get if they went to a traditional school. This was building something really beautiful in all of us.” - Monica Swanson “My boys have really grown up with the ability to ask questions, dig in, and find the answers. I've seen my kids dig their roots even deeper, stand strong, and know what they believe because they had that time at home. They had the ability to really wrestle with things in their teenage years so that their faith was that much stronger when they went out into the world.” - Monica Swanson “As a homeschool mom, I think it kind of adds a special way of seeing God's love, because I get to see it in my children every day as they learn something new, as we overcome challenges and adversities, as we grow together, as I see those light bulb moments.” - Monica Swanson “God's in everything and everywhere, but I think it's easy to miss if we're too hectic, too busy, too distracted. It's that choice to slow down for me, to open God's Word, to get my kids to take the time to start their day with God's Word and prayer. His love is everywhere.” - Monica Swanson “I want to simply lead my children to Jesus. I want them to learn to sit at His feet, to understand His love for them and to just simply know that they're called to come to Jesus. Then as they grow up, as they develop more skills, as they understand God's Word, they'll be ready and equipped and prepared to go out into the world and make disciples.” - Monica Swanson Guest's Links Monica Swanson's website Monica Swanson's Facebook Monica Swanson's Instagram Monica Swanson's Twitter Connect with Sally Lloyd-Jones Jesus Storybook Bible Facebook Jesus Storybook Bible Instagram Sally's website Sally's Facebook Sally's Instagram *Episode produced by Four Eyes Media*

What happens when you aren't truly eating enough to fuel your ambitions and feel your best? Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, or RED-s, is a serious condition that can impact any active person regardless of their training intensity. Not only could RED-s impact your performance in the gym, but it can also play a huge role in your physical and mental health and well-being outside of the gym. This is why I have brought the founder of Project RED-s, Pippa Woolven, to the show. Key Takeaways If You Want to Know More About RED-s, You Should: Educate yourself on the symptoms and signs of RED-s and how to avoid it Remember that RED-s can happen to anyone, no matter your level of training intensity Work with an expert who will not just dismiss your symptoms but will help you heal Overcoming Struggle with Pippa Woolven Pippa is an English Schools (x2) and British Universities Champion (x4), a former GB athlete, and now a Positive Psychology Coach (MSc) and Athlete Mentor. Over a decade of competing in international athletics while studying in the UK and USA, Pippa experienced her fair share of highs and lows, including RED-S. Several years after overcoming the condition herself, Pippa established Project RED-S to provide the resources she needed at the start of her struggle. Fueling for Performance Underfueling, disordered eating, and over-fueling can have huge impacts on the body and can impact anybody. While education has been lacking in the past, we are finally starting to hear this important conversation being had more and more. Pippa believes working to find a balance for your unique body composition and goals will help any active person avoid RED-s and overcome this common issue. The answer isn't just in the training. You have to think about the amount that you are eating in order to fuel properly. Your training, but also your health and well-being outside of the gym, will be better for it. Awareness, Prevention, and Support Project RED-s, and Pippa's, mission is simple. To make sure that everyone who is active knows about the term RED-s, its signs and symptoms, and how to avoid it. She wants to embed the education of RED-s into coaching practices worldwide and into the mass consumption audiences on social media so that everyone can avoid low energy availability. She works to connect people with trusted experts who not only know what they are talking about but are passionate about helping people hear without dismissing their symptoms. Have you struggled with RED-s? Share your experiences with us in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode Learn about Pippa's personal story and what inspired her to create the RED-s project (5:22) Understanding how the media has influenced the education of food, nutrition, and weight stigma (17:04) How RED-s is affecting the ‘recreational sport' crowd and why it is not only a problem for 'elite athletes' (24:25) ‘Athletic Aesthetic' and the role it plays in low energy availability and RED-s (30:56) Where to go if you are looking for fear of getting help with body image (39:40) Quotes “Over-training and under-fueling is just the perfect storm for a condition like relative energy deficiency in sport, RED-s.” (10:09) “Topics like sports nutrition and sports psychology [used to be] almost reserved for the elite sports people, and now we see recreational sports people taking those kinds of things really, really seriously. For better or for worse.” (18:09) “Eat the right amounts of the right foods, lift some weights, and try to think more holistically about your health and wellbeing.” (21:42) “You do not have to be competing; you don't have to even be doing anything structured; you just have to be moving your body, expending energy, to therefore need to replenish that energy with your nutrition.” (26:24) “You might have the diagnosis and know exactly what's wrong and what you need to do, but that is a very different ballgame to actually doing it.” (41:22) “This has a huge impact on any active person's life. And we need to just stop thinking so much about performance, especially short-term performance. Because it really is impactful on not just your physical health but your mental health too, and it takes a long time to get over something like this, which is why prevention is so key.” (46:37) Featured on the Show Apply for Strength Nutrition Unlocked Here Project RED-s Website Follow Project RED-s on Instagram Full show notes Follow Steph on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | Pinterest I'd really love it if you would take 1 min and leave us a rating and review on iTunes! Episode 017: The journey to success starts with letting advisors be great advisors. Outsourcing offers a solution for advisors who want to maximize their efficiency and scale their businesses without the burden of running day-to-day operations. By leveraging the support and resources available to them, advisors can build successful businesses, maximize valuation, and ultimately provide the best possible service to their clients. In this episode of Connected, Kyle talks with Penny Phillips, President and Co-Founder of Journey Strategic Wealth. They discuss the need to stop encouraging advisors to be CEOs and instead allow them to focus on being great in their roles. Penny explains that many advisors don't enjoy running the business side of things. She believes advisors can outsource the running of their firms while still owning the business. That allows advisors to maximize their valuation and focus on what they love – providing great advice and building genuine, long-term client relationships. Join us as we discuss: [01:48] - Penny's point about advisors not being encouraged to become CEOs. [04:39] - How to spark young people's interest in becoming financial advisors. [09:01] - Why rainmaker-style advisors are declining. [12:06] - How independent advisors grow their businesses. [14:18] - The benefits of outsourcing the entire business process. [19:59] - How advisors define independence. [21:48] - What sets Journey Strategic Wealth apart from other aggregators. [29:11] - Journey's proactive approach to consulting and coaching advisors. [30:25] - Penny's experience studying in London. [31:34] - What Penny likes best about London. [32:19] - Penny's top destination on her bucket list. Key Takeaways Rather than acting as CEOs, advisors should focus on being great advisors. The industry needs more quality advisors, and models like Journey Strategic Wealth can help retain and attract advisors by providing support in running their businesses. The rainmaker advisor is becoming a dying breed, and firms need to find new ways to grow and develop business. Outsourcing and institutionalizing various aspects of the business can help advisors focus on what they do best and maximize their profitability. Independence should mean owning your data, book of business, and client relationships, not necessarily running every aspect of the business. Quotes "Over the course of my consulting, I found that so many advisors or entrepreneurs, if they're building within a firm, happen to be very good at building a business and inspiring others. But they don't really love running the business." ~ Penny Phillips "We need more advisors. We need quality advisors. We need advisors to stay advising. And so I just love this idea of giving advisors permission to not be the CEO." ~ Penny Phillips "We believe that it's our responsibility not just to offer a core infrastructure, it's to constantly be evolving and updating that infrastructure and getting feedback from our advisors on how it should evolve." ~ Penny Phillips Links Penny Phillips on LinkedIn Penny Phillips on Twitter Journey Strategic Wealth Connect with our hosts Milemarker.co Kyle on LinkedIn Jud on LinkedIn Subscribe and stay in touch Apple Podcasts Spotify YouTube Google Podcasts Produce game-changing content with Turncast Turncast helps your company grow by producing top-quality content and fostering transformative conversations. Life necessitates great physical and mental work. Some people are lucky enough to have everything ready for them. Some people are born into wealth, while others are blessed with good fortune. However, most people work hard from the beginning to achieve success in life. It all depends on how you came into this world. Some people's lives are filled with stress and adversity. However, the person who meets obstacles with fortitude and accepts achievement without getting carried away is the one who finds true happiness, satisfaction, and peace in life. Andy Frisella imparts his life's lessons, wisdom, and counsel to everyone listening today. Life should not be just a bed of roses; thorns are also a part of it and should be accepted by us just as we accept the beautiful side of life. After all, life is beautiful, but it isn't always easy. Tune in as young leaders ask questions about life, personal growth, and more! Quotes: “Over the years, we had our challenges and our ups and downs. I just = tried not to make the same mistake twice and never quit.” – Andy Frisella “The hard things you're going to go through are very necessary to the result.” – Andy Frisella “I get tired of talking to people who are just there to listen and not act.” – Andy Frisella Takeaways: Making mistakes is a natural thing. The key is that you should take it as a lesson and learn from it so you can get it right the next time. Nothing good ever comes easy. We must always make sure to enact and apply the lessons we learn in life instead of just going back to the old ways every time. Conclusion: Life is, without a doubt, beautiful and every moment is a celebration of being alive, but one must constantly be prepared to face difficulties and challenges. A person who has never faced problems in life will never be successful. Difficulties put a person's courage, patience, perseverance, and true character to the test. Adversity and suffering strengthen a person and prepare them to handle life's problems with composure. There is no denying that there can be no gain without pain. Only through toiling and sweating it out can success be fed and perpetuated.
Today's Flash Back Friday Episode is from Episode #239, which originally aired on July 23, 2019. In this episode of the Real Estate Investing for Cashflow podcast, Kevin welcomes commercial real estate and finance expert, Ira Zlotowitz. Ira is the founder and president of Eastern Union Funding, one of the largest national real estate firm with over a hundred real estate professionals and they have closed more than $2.5 billion in just the last twelve months. Ira talks about Eastern Union Funding as well as one of his more recent ventures, The Ira Group and shares how he built one of the largest brokerages in the country. He explains how lending can actually help in commercial real estate investment and clarifies the advantages of investing from the debt side of things in lieu of the usual syndicated equity investments. Kevin and Ira also discuss how one can be successful in commercial real estate. QUOTES: “Over time we grew into all other deals, but we don't forget our roots and we start this way, we find our niche and we double down on that area.” “As Eastern Union as the broker, we'll typically work through full transactions, some look at $5 million, $3million or $100 million, we'll find a lender for that sorts. Through the Ira group, it's when the lender is looking for participation in loans, primarily bridge loans..” “I'm gonna bring people that want to participate into loans and bring them to crowdfunding platforms or to individual lenders throughout the country.” “What I also tell people is that the best deal that you should probably start with, if you're about to invest equity in the deal, if you're starting a bit nervous then it might be overpriced, maybe you can sit on that same deal and go to the debt side of that deal.” “You only want to try to do deals that the initial term are officially only twelve months.” HIGHLIGHTS 8:02 Ira's background and the Ira group 13:10 Ideal investor 19:01 Roadblocks in understanding debt in investment 24:04 Time span of bridge loans 27:26 Ira talks about staying focused, knowing one's strengths and weaknesses Recommended Resources: Accredited Investors, you're invited to Join the Cashflow Investor Club to learn how you can partner with Kevin Bupp on current and upcoming opportunities to create passive cash flow and build wealth. Most people think that when you merge nonprofits, or you're making any significant changes in a nonprofit, it means that there's terribly wrong that has happened. Right? But in this episode, my guest, Jess Cavagnero, a partner of SeaChange Capital Partners, dispels some of these misconceptions. Jess and I will talk about the hows, whys and whats of mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. This is a must-listen for leaders who are looking to lead with “strategery” To connect with Jess: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jessica-cavagnero-9b826613b/ Resources Mentioned in the Podcast: SeaChange Website - https://seachangecap.org/ SeaChange LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/seachangecap/ Sustained Collaboration Network - https://www.sustainedcollab.org/ —--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QUOTES “Over the last 10 years, the trend has really shifted, where nonprofits are pursuing mergers… There's a whole spectrum of partnerships that we should be talking about.” - Jess Cavagnero “So there are best practices from the investment banking side that can be a disservice to nonprofit mergers or collaborations… because they're played out in the wrong moment in time.” - Jess Cavagnero “So there's something called the Sustained Collaboration Network, which if you're a fundraiser listening to this, you should write down because it's a network of all of the funders who actually make grants to support this work.” - Jess Cavagnero “Nonprofits who came out of this period in the pandemic have so much extra cash because they were able to really shrink down to their essential costs and had so much emergency funding come in… This is a good opportunity to grow.” - Jess Cavagnero “If you're looking to become part of something, what's your offer? What's the value of your program team? Who's on your board?” - Jess Cavagnero “So what's the challenge or the opportunity or the thing that you're trying to solve for? And it's important to know it upfront because you will fill the space that you have.” - Jess Cavagnero “The analogy that is most often used when people talk about nonprofit mergers is dating and weddings. I think it holds here. You can't go out looking for a long-term partner if you aren't totally solid in who you are…” - Jess Cavagnero “When two organizations are working together, even if they do the same thing in the same place, and they have overlapping staff, they might put their yogurt in a different place, in the fridge. That is going to create friction that needs to be addressed early and continually.” - Jess Cavagnero TIME STAMPS TOPIC: Talking About the Concept of Mergers and Acquisitions 02:31 - 03:48 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nonprofitlowdown/support

Episode Highlights: Programs that focus on building life skills Relational versus transactional Why the Ninja Path ensures longevity Details about Ninja You Ninja Managers Future plans The keystone: your business plan Ninja's culture of support Quotes: “Over the years I've thought about all of the different applications for Ninja, from children to like, what if you had a Ninja system specifically for a freshman entering college? How to build relationships and how to talk to people and your mindset skills.” “It's a significant part of Ninja, and that's the word ‘relationship'. And that's something that's very different about Ninja compared to our industry. The industry tends to be very transaction oriented. Ninja is very relationship oriented… It's all about building relationships and building a referral business.” “It's Ninja Y-O-U, so it's all about you. And what can we do with Ninja to help you in your life and help you in your business?” “If you want to build a Ninja company and if you want to be a great Ninja manager, you really need to know the system… inside and out.” “We are also working on the development of a [program] to certify Ninja agents.” “Mastery is not just one year; you can keep doing it year after year after year.” “So that really showed me that you can't just take a class, you really need to commit to the path and commit to doing the system.” “When you're a manager and you really know the Ninja system, you can very easily troubleshoot… when there's a problem that needs to be addressed. You know exactly how to help them win because the system is so simple. And it's so powerful and it works, and you can tell what piece of the system they're not doing.” “One of those things here is your annual business plan, which there's a business planning workshop that's done with Ninjas every year, that is designed to help you have something, regardless of what happens in the year, for you to use as a tool to keep you on the Path. And so it's like your own personal set of bumper rails, on a bowling lane… I'll call it a keystone, really, because it helps to recycle… before you get far off-track.” “So that's a chance to really, you know, fine tune and to adjust your business and your life… They're in the driver's seat of their business.” “It's just evolved to the point now that I really feel we can offer the resources to somebody to help them stay on the Path… they not only have support systems, but they have a culture of support with other Ninjas… You don't see that in other parts of our industry. Everybody's in silos. They're trying to protect themselves. They're trying to protect what they do, what they're not willing to share. That's exactly the opposite with Ninjas.” Links: www.TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Email us at TSW@TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Leave a voicemail at (208) MY-NINJA Ninja Selling www.NinjaSelling.com @ninjasellingofficial Ninja Coaching: www.NinjaCoaching.com @ninja.coaching Ninja Events www.NinjaSelling.com/Events Garrett garrett@ninjacoaching.com @ninjaredding Matt matt@ninjacoaching.com @matthewjbonelli The Ninja Selling Podcast Facebook Group
Creatine can be one of the most beneficial supplements out there, especially for those who are physically active. However, there are a lot of myths and misconceptions about creatine. This is why I have invited ‘Dr. Creatine' himself to the show today, to arm you with the knowledge necessary to decide if creatine is right for you. Key Takeaways If You Are Interested in Creatine, You Should: Educate yourself about the benefits of creatine when taken properly Learn about the common myths and misconceptions about creatine and how they differ from reality Stay up to date about the latest creatine research from doctors like Dr. Forbes Enhancing Athletic Performance With Dr. Scott Forbes Dr. Scott Forbes is a researcher who focuses on sports science and various nutritional and training interventions that enhance athlete performance. He is an expert at examining nutritional and exercise interventions for optimal muscle and brain health in older adults and has worked as a personal trainer and athlete consultant for several professional and varsity level sports teams. He is passionate about helping those interested in creatine understand the science and reality behind the supplement so that they can make informed decisions for themselves and their health. Understanding Creatine Creatine is derived from three amino acids and is generally stored in muscle tissue. Creatine is beneficial for those who participate in high-intensity exercises, such as sprinting and lifting weights. It is not just for ‘meat heads' or ‘gym bros', and its benefit for bone health, muscle performance, and brain function are scientifically proven. Creatine works to enhance your muscle strength, not your muscle mass, which means it won't make you bulk up more than you want to. The Science Behind Creatine Dr. Forbes's research specifically looks at the gender gap that has previously existed in scientific studies and works to prove that creatine is safe for both males and females of varying ages. Dr. Forbes wants to help others avoid unnecessary work ad complications when it comes to supplementing with creatine and dismiss the myths and misconceptions that can surround this supplement. If you have considered taking creatine or want to get some real, scientific-based evidence into the benefits of creatine, this is an episode you cannot miss. How does creatine play into your workout routine and supplementation? Have you experienced the benefits of creatine? Share your thoughts with me in the comments section of the episode page. Have you ever wondered what self love actually is? This week our host, Hailey Curtis, dives into her personal self love journey and quest to discover what self love actually is. QUOTES “Over the past three years, it's been my mission to figure out, ‘what is self love?' Self love isn't just one thing and it's also not tangible. Self love is really a lot of different things and they aren't the easiest of things to do for yourself. Self love really requires you to be intentional about your actions.” [1:38] “Transformation really begins with awareness. If you aren't aware of what needs to change or what you would like to change in your life, the transformation will not happen.” [5:21] “When boundaries are not a thing in your life, you don't have parameters around how far you're going to go for someone. And not only that, but other people don't know how to treat you if you don't have boundaries.” [7:22] If you enjoyed this episode, please spread the love! In this episode: What is malassezia? What's the relationship between malassezia and seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff)? Why is the skin pH important? What happens when the pH of the skin is too high? Is there a test to look for malassezia? What other skin conditions are linked to malassezia? Are there any topical or dietary solutions for malassezia? Why you should not apply undiluted essential oils directly to the skin. Quotes “Over 50% of adults will have some form of dandruff in their life. That's usually a non-inflammatory form of seborrheic dermatitis.” [2:42] “Our skin, many people are surprised to learn, is also supposed to be relatively acidic, like four, 4.5 to five, 5.5, and when the skin becomes more alkaline, or has a higher pH, it cannot defend itself as well, and we do get problems.” [5:04] Links Find Dr. Greenberg online Healthy Skin Show ep. 107: Symptoms Of A Staph Infection On Your Skin Healthy Skin Show ep. 149: How Staph Aureus Wrecks Your Skin w/ Dr. Julie Greenberg Gut Dysbiosis and Its Role in Skin Disease: A LearnSkin course I co-authored LearnSkin Naturopathic and Integrative Dermatology Series

QUOTES: “Over time we grew into all other deals, but we don’t forget our roots and we start this way, we find our niche and we double down on that area.” “As Eastern Union as the broker, we’ll typically work through full transactions, some look at $5 million, $3million or $100 million, we’ll find a lender for that sorts. Through the Ira group, it’s when the lender is looking for participation in loans, primarily bridge loans..” “I’m gonna bring people that want to participate into loans and bring them to crowdfunding platforms or to individual lenders throughout the country.” “What I also tell people is that the best deal that you should probably start with, if you’re about to invest equity in the deal, if you’re starting a bit nervous then it might be overpriced, maybe you can sit on that same deal and go to the debt side of that deal.” “You only want to try to do deals that the initial term are officially only twelve months.” HIGHLIGHTS 8:02 Ira’s background and the Ira group 13:10 Ideal investor 19:01 Roadblocks in understanding debt in investment 24:04 Time span of bridge loans 27:26 Ira talks about staying focused, knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses Job Opportunities with my Team: Click Here Recommended Resources: Check out our company and our partnership opportunities by visiting SunriseCapitalInvestors.com Would you like to partner with us on future MHP deals, call 844-CASH-FLW to learn more or click here to schedule a time on our calendar. And do you know the true root cause of why you feel that way? Many women have shared issues of experiencing overwhelm and don’t know how to get themselves out. Luckily, Dr. Samantha recognized this issue through her naturopathic physician and acupuncturist clinic in Portland, Oregon, and has been working for the past 22 years to help people find physical and mental balance. Now, Dr. Samantha works with clients to create innovative and personalized approaches to dismantle your stress from the inside out and figure out what you really want in life. Dr. Samantha believes that the first step is to figure out what you want in your life, what your values and beliefs are, and what is stopping you from getting what you want out of life. Through practices in self-care, taking time to consider why you are saying yes or no, and breaking free of societal constraints. So many of us are running around in these tangent circles without a clear way out. Noah Church is an expert, recovery coach, speaker and author of Wack: Addicted to Internet Porn, and evolution of the porn addiction treatment world. Today, he talks about the difference between addiction and dysfunction, his own personal experience and struggle with porn addiction, the ways porn and sex addiction differ, and what he is doing to make a difference. TAKEAWAYS: [2:12] Noah himself began using porn at age 9. At 24, he realized how much of a negative impact his porn use had on the rest of his life, and knew he had to seek help and change things around. [3:41] In both porn and sex addiction, there is a stigma to fight, and people that need support. In sex addiction, Rob has seen a deep early trauma, and a pervasive intimacy disorder that affects their dating life and general ability to function in any sort of healthy relationship. [5:51] Noah has the perspective of someone that both has gone through porn addiction, and someone that helps others recover in their own struggles. [9:25] When Noah was 18 and in his first long term relationship, he experienced difficulty with sexual intimacy and what he would later learn to be was porn induced erectile dysfunction. The pattern repeated up until Noah had graduated from college, and he confronted the issue and recognized it was something he needed to leave behind. [16:53] It was when Noah watched Gary Wilson’s TEDx talk on “The great porn experiment” that he began an understanding of recovery and a light at the end of the tunnel. He began sharing his experience online, and even shared his experiences with his romantic partner. [21:54] If you were exposed to porn in an excessive way before puberty, it’s going to cause damage. Fetishes typically develop around ages 9-11. [25:25] Noah sees a blurry middle between a sex addict and a porn addict. Some of his clients have a primary porn addiction which has escalated into engaging in destructive sexual behavior, and some have never had sex. [28:12] Virtual Reality porn will present a whole new host of issues and challenges in both porn and sex addiction. While VR may be more addictive than the state of porn now, we will have to wait and see how it affects real life intimacy. [32:37] Only 20 states in the nation offer sex education, and of those 20 states, 12 require parental permission. Church The great porn experiment | Gary Wilson | TEDxGlasgow Your Brain Rebalanced Addicted to Internet Porn QUOTES: “Over time, curiosity became compulsion, and it began to replace my drive to actually connect with the people in my life.” “I didn’t have any trauma that led me to pornography, but the pornography led me to trauma.” “It’s not about what you are looking at or how often, it’s about how it’s affecting your life as a whole.” “Addiction thrives in isolation and secrecy. It feels good to break down those walls.”
Jess welcomes Karen Ramsay Smith onto this episode of Smart Leaders Sell! Karen is what Jess would describe as “a little bit woo” and yet can bring into the world of practicality, and practical marketing in a way that makes sense, and works very well. Karen helps people tune into that inner voice that tells them what they actually want to do and accomplish within their business, that vision they wish to truly create, and then helps them gain the visibility to achieve it. Karen and Jess talk about authenticity, and it's fall from grace into being another buzz word. Karen also explains how simple it is to differentiate yourself from your competition by doing what comes most naturally to you: Being yourself. She then paints a vivid picture of a tall, awkward man proposing to Jess upon first glance at a coffee shop. Don't worry. It's relevant. Jess also goes on to talk about her dating profile as “The Next Bridget Jones” How can somebody heart centered leverage their business up to the next level? Jess talks about how heart centered or spiritual entrepreneurs have been manipulated by the system into thinking that they have to forget compassion in order to get paid. She explains that in order for something to feel good energetically, there needs to be an exchange. Whether that been financial, or a bartering of services, there needs to be a currency exchanged for the services provided in order for a transaction to feel good. She talks about building trust with an audience, and how giving someone a bunch of free stuff doesn't actually get them anywhere. It's best to provide them with some simple free things, but then sell your bigger, more complicated programs because people who pay for things, actually complete them. Karen asks about webinars, and how that would fit into her sales process. Jess talks about how everyone tries to do the same funnels, and how it drives her crazy, but then goes on to describe a sales process that would work very well for what Karen wants to achieve. She also talks about providing evidence in the form of testimonials from people who have had success with the product or program, in order to help people understand that it truly does work. Quotes “Over the course of our natural lives, we're conditioned to be something else that we think we should be” “Being pushy without a connection first doesn't feel right” “Heart centered entrepreneurs have always been manipulated by the system” “In return or in exchange for the talent you have or the help that you are giving, you deserve to be rewarded as well” “If they're not committed to the process, if they're not invested in the process, they're not going to make use of it” “Just because I can't see it, doesn't mean that gift or specialty doesn't exist” “Even Jesus asked for help” “The money itself is kind of irrelevant, it's the vision of what the money will bring to them” Links www.karenramsaysmith.wordpress.com More Jess: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FabulousFemaleEntrepreneurs/ https://jessicalorimer.com/supersize-your-sales https://jessicalorimer.com/list-building-legend Content Disclaimer The information contained above is provided for information purposes only. Edward Westerhuis is a multidisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. His work moves between visual art, video, and performance--often collaborating with other artists and working within the community. He creates imaginative worlds that play with an epic sense of scale, forming allegories that reflect the places he lives. Whether he's making sci-fi cardboard puppet shows, or music videos with giant dancing cats, Edward uses humour to create the unexpected and to carve out space for new perspectives. Edward has presented his work across Canada, from coast to coast, including the Yukon Arts Centre, the Banff Centre, and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Full shownotes: http://yourcreativepush.com/doublecat In this episode, Edward discusses: -How he got started down the creative path that got him to the point he is at now. -How he came up with the idea for his "Double Cat" video. -The deeper meaning behind the "Double Cat" video. -His Tedx talk and the differences that performance art brings to the creation process. -The hilarious story of one of his first creative moments. -The creative lull that came into his life when he moved back home from school and how he got past it. -The power that comes with mapping your creativity out to find out what works for you. -Moving around, taking a walk, or doing some "lighter" creative work in order to clear your head when you need it. -The idea of taking the pressure off of yourself by not worrying about the final product. -One of his lowest moments, when he attended a film festival while in a creative drought and feeling like an imposter. -The way he got out of his drought by working as Sook-Yin Lee's Director's Assistant. -How Sook-Yin Lee was a role model for him and gave him the courage to be able to move between disciplines and art forms. -How he likes when art can bring people together to form new types of interaction around the artwork. -What art and creativity bring to his life. Edward's Final Push will inspire you to find ways to shut out the anxiety of being overwhelmed by your creative end goal. Quotes: "Over time, I've been able to recognize my own process and see how you develop an idea from a glimpse of an image to a fully thought-out project." "It was this slow-burning idea that was just creeping over time." "When I work on a desk, I can't have anything on my desk except for what I'm working on that very moment because I get way too distracted." "You're always trying to remove the anxiety from your process. You don't want to be anxious while working because then you just get suffocated." "When I'm making art now, I really think about my audience. I think about creating opportunities that exist outside the artwork itself." "I really love the opportunities for the face-to-face social interaction that can happen around artwork." "One of the reasons why I love collaborating so much is because I can see people on a much deeper level. We are able to build a communication that is very specific to an art piece but also has reverberations beyond that on a human-to-human level." "Don't make it so big. Make it small and make it an opportunity to learn about who you are." "Find ways to shut out the anxiety of being overwhelmed by that end goal." "Allow yourself to explore and embrace not knowing where you're going."
