George enjoys a good Bill Murray movie, when he recognizes him anyway. And we just showed him National Lampoon's Vacation, which was directed by Stripes co-star Harold Ramis. And John Candy is here. After a rousing discussion of interstate... in-transit... copulation...? during the Christine episode it was necessary that George see Parenthood. But instead the guys watched Vacation and no regrets were had. George is familiar with Christmas Vacation, so to see the original in its early 80s R-Rated incarnation was not a very difficult leap. But was he ready for Ellen Griswold and Cousin Eddie in their more... raw form? How many Russ's and Clarks's will Travis tally by the end of the episode? George had no context for Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Sure he's seen a few Tim Burton movies. The Danny Elfman score might sound a bit familiar. Dan is the first-time viewer this week as the guys show him Gremlins. And Dan has only one question: Who is the target audience of this movie!? Now, to be fair, George hadn't seen this film in a long time so it was essentially a first watch for him as well. Travis brought his A-Game to support this 80's classic. Furbies, A Christmas Story and Back to the Future all make cameo appearances as we ring in the holiday season with puppets and fire. What a wild movie! But will Dan prefer this Steven Spielberg/Chris Columbus/Joe Dante effort to his beloved Elves (1989)? Will Travis convince the guys of the merits of this creature feature? Will George be satisfied with the number of Gremlins? What is the ideal volume of Gremlins contained within a film called Gremlins? Will Dan see the movie for what it is, rather than what it could be as a music video for Darlene Love's "Christmas" song? Dan will be appearing as the guest of The Hysteria Continues podcast to discuss Elves (1989) with the panel of slasher fans with an episode launching December 22nd on YouTube (and December 24th on podcatchers.) Before "Straw Dogs," "Last House on the Left" and "I Spit on Your Grave" it was Whirlpool that ushered in the new decade of the 1970s... George and Travis had never heard of Whirlpool (aside from all the times Dan brought it up over the last 3 years!) and were NOT PREPARED FOR WHAT THEY WERE GETTING INTO. And it led to what may be our most ridiculous episode of the year! Seriously. This is one that is underseen so we stay spoiler-free while we make the pitch for you, yes you, to go check it out before we finish the episode with spoilers galore. How many times will Travis snort with glee? Will George manage to maintain diplomacy throughout the episode? Will Dan finally stop talking about Whirlpool!? Only time will tell! Tune in! Thanksgiving is here and the boys are watching Steve Martin try to escape John Candy on his way from New York to Chicago, by way of Wichita Kansas. And the adventure goes right through Dan's backyard! (Finally a movie that isn't in Philadelphia!) Will George manage to set aside his tragedy bias and enjoy a heartwarming film? Will Travis set a new all-time curse record for the show? Will Dan ever fully self-diagnose his emotion deficiency? Hopefully this all resolves in time for Turkey! George and Travis are new to this movie, and Dan forewarned them (perhaps to their own detriment) that they were in for more David Cronenberg. But this isn't your Daddy's Cronenberg of The Fly or Scanners. Instead the guys were faced with a serious and ambiguous tale vacillating between gaslighting and a potential double life. But, spoiler alert: They liked it. Will Travis ever be satisfied with ambiguity? Will George manage to say anything nice about the movie before slipping into criticism? Will Dan find an excuse to reference Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Ok, to be fair, it would be odd to ask any of those very specific questions without the answer to all of them being addressed directly. What are you waiting for!? Dan and Travis have been threatening to show this movie to George for years. They never mentioned that it was Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct) but you have to assume George had lofty expectations (or a paralyzing sense of confusion) when he read the "directed by" credits. Let's settle with you guys. This movie stinks. But the real discussion begins with the "Why!?" What happened to this movie? Why is it the way it is? We get into it. And then we quote it a bunch. And then we question ourselves. And Travis snorted again. Will Travis take back his baseless attacks on Shannon Tweed? Will George ever trust us to show him a movie again? Will Dan seriously defend this movie as accomplishing its mission? Thanks for the cheeseburger. For a literal calendar year, Travis and Dan have had to "save it for the pod." They had very different reactions when Halloween Kills was released last year and couldn't debate (argue? fight?) the merits of their perspectives until George was ready to hear it. Well, "Bad Takes Die Tonight" as Dan and Travis finally get to defend their positions. Will George pick a side? To give himself the best chance, George watched this movie twice in preparation. That's dedication! Then, George gets to chime in on his rankings of all of the Halloween movies he has seen. And finally, the guys discuss where they hope Halloween Ends will (and won't!) go when it is released on Friday, October 14, 2022. Will Travis manage to hold the goalposts in place long enough to make a cogent argument? Will George catch the root of the infamous "Evil Dies Tonight" phrase during his second viewing? Will Dan manage to "Dark Knight" himself into a subtext the guys didn't see coming? The Podcast Tries Tonight! George is ready to throw out all the nonsense of the Halloween sequels and jump right out of the end of Halloween 1978 and into the most recent Halloween 2. (and the third movie called Halloween.) Will George manage to overlook (or even appreciate) the trigger discipline? Will Travis find himself more prepared to look at Halloween Kills next week with a fresh perspective? Will Dan ever get to know what "Everything." entails regarding Dr. Sartain and the files on Laurie and Michael? And will anyone believe us that Travis's Loomis impression was done without prep and not edited in any way? Stick around for that alone! Mark Wiley and Will George entertain Former #1 Draft Choice and Milwaukee Brewers Pitching Coordinator Jim Rooney. Learn the origins of RA Dickey's resurgence as a knuckler. Jim is very candid in the lessons learned through his journey as a player and coach ... and dishes on how a conversation with his mom after his release led to his drive to coach. He is quick to give credit to many mentors along the way including his father and even shares a heartwarming story that connects his dad's admiration of HOF Robin Roberts to his first start as a Cornel Big Red freshman vs. South Florida. Wiley and Will do it again getting Rooney to offer great instructional pieces to our audience my favorite phrase- "Toe the rubber and express yourself."
