TV's David Harper returns to the pod and shares his personal journey of exploring Christianity, sparked by his daughter's transformation through faith. He discusses the insights gained from his best selling book, 'The God Conundrum', which serves as a layman's investigation into the existence of God and the impact of Christianity. Stick with us as we bunk off to record anecdotes, interview others in the industry and basically gabble on. If you enjoy the podcast, please leave us a rating. #EP328 Federal funding for tribal clean energy projects has been rescinded. Tribes that invested millions in solar and microgrid projects now face stalled construction, lost jobs, and broken promises. David Harper, CEO of Huurav, is stepping in with bridge loans to keep these projects alive.David Harper is a tribal member from the Colorado River Indian Tribes on the Arizona-California border. He started his solar career fighting developers who disturbed sacred artifacts and human remains on tribal lands. Today, he runs Huurav, a company providing bridge financing for the 575 federally recognized tribes across the United States. His sister company, 7 Skyline, provides electrical engineering consulting to 80-90 tribes nationwide.Episode Highlights:The 2021 Infrastructure Bill allocated $10-15 billion for tribal energy projects. Much of that funding has been clawed back.Tribes that invested their own money now have stalled projects with no path to completion.Huurav provides 2-6 year bridge loans that allow tribes to continue construction while securing permanent financing.Capital stacking allows multiple funders (CDFIs, philanthropy, financial institutions, etc) to share risk on larger projects.Case study: Guidiville Rancheria in Mendocino County received a $1M bridge loan for a 500kW solar plus 1.5MW battery storage microgrid serving 44 homes.Huurav has 22 projects in its pipeline with more tribes requesting support.Tribal communities often suffer brownouts and blackouts because they sit at the end of utility lines. Microgrids offer energy independence.David Harper's story captures what happens when federal promises disappear overnight. Tribes that did everything right, completed feasibility studies, hired workers, and approved scopes of work, are left holding the bill. Huurav fills that gap with bridge loans sized to what tribes can pay back. This model builds credit history, creates jobs, and moves the 22 projects in their pipeline toward completion.Connect with David HarperLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-harper-ab6b762b5/Huurav: https://www.huurav.com/7Skyline: https://www.7skyline.com/ Support the showConnect with Tim Clean Power Hour Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. We begin a new season, this time going over Hellboy comics. We start at the beginning, with Hellboy issue 1, or the beginning of the "Seed of Destruction" arc. Hellboy is the creation of writer/artist Mike Mignola, who had been a regular artist for Marvel and DC. Then he started Hellboy for Dark Horse Comics in 1994, and true to the publisher's name -- it was a surprise runaway hit! We discuss how Mignola was a surprise artist to have a runaway success with a creator owned title. We talk about how superstar artist/writer John Byrne scripted these first few issues. We talk about the Hellboy movies (they look good, but are usually not too great!). And of course we talk about Mignola's amazing art. Loose Screws: Will talks David Harper's podcast Off Panel and Kevin discusses the new season of Fallout. Don't forget to participate in the Official Screwit Instapush #screwitinstapush! Every few months, the discourse turns to comics journalism. What is it? What's its value? Does it even exist anymore? Of course, if you read SKTCHD or listen to Off Panel every week, these questions are easy to answer. For years, David Harper has been our go-to source for what's happening within the comics industry, and due to recent events in his own life, he's upped his game and committed to comics journalism in a fashion he previously has not. Can the industry sustain him? That all depends on us. This week, we chat with David Harper about his total immersion into SKTCHD/Off Panel. We confront him about his pivot to video, the state of comics journalism, and how he ignores the recurring Chicken Little screams of “The sky is falling.” It's not all so dire, though. We also discuss his ideal comic book shop and the books he's absolutely loving in 2025. Stories and storytellers are vital to human existence, but for various, always frustrating, reasons, we must continually be reminded of this. You, dear listener, are already fighting the good fight, but how do we get others to join us? Share, baby, share. Below you'll find links not only to David Harper's good work, but also to the good work of others working within the field of comics journalism. Give them your clicks, give them your eyes, and maybe, just maybe, if you can afford to do so, give them your dollars. Summary In this episode, The Furious Curious delves into the world of online gurus, discussing how to avoid becoming a “fluffluencer.” They explore the reasons behind the rise of online gurus, including the demand for simple answers in a complex world and the accessibility of social media. An online guru is defined as an internet personality who offers simple or secret solutions to complex problems. The hosts highlight red flags to watch out for, such as overblown promises, lack of credentials, high-pressure sales tactics, cult-like behavior, lack of transparency, promoting dependency, and an excessive focus on the guru. They also identify green flags, including realistic expectations, credentials and experience, empowerment, ethical conduct, and a focus on personal development. The episode covers topics like discernment, sharing ideas online without becoming a full influencer, the importance of personal experience, understanding concepts versus real-world application, the dangers of creating bad guys and in-groups/out-groups, using flash for credibility, and using vulnerability at manipulation. The hosts emphasize the importance of self-awareness, humility, and genuine intentions in content creation. Takeaways The rise of online gurus is fueled by the desire for simple answers in a complex world and the accessibility of social media. Red flags to watch out for include overblown promises, lack of credentials, high-pressure sales tactics, cult-like behavior, lack of transparency, promoting dependency, and an excessive focus on the guru. Green flags include realistic expectations, credentials and experience, empowerment, ethical conduct, and a focus on personal development. Content creators should add value to the world without resorting to manipulative or deceptive tactics. The education system often fails to provide practical knowledge, leading to a demand for online gurus who fill that void. Critical thinking and self-reliance are crucial in navigating the world of online gurus. Exercise discernment in cutting negative people out of your life. Share ideas online without falling into the practices of online gurus. Ground ideas in personal experience and give credit to others. Differentiate between understanding concepts and real-world application. Avoid creating bad guys and in-groups/out-groups. Do not use flash for credibility. Be cautious of manipulating vulnerability for attention. They came out of nowhere, like a jolt of lightning in 1990. Packs of trading cards, but instead of featuring sports heroes, they were the heroes of the Marvel universe. That's right, we're talking Marvel trading cards with the two guys who did the heavy lifting for those early 90s sets: Bob Budiansky and Tom Brevoort! Celebrating the 34th anniversary of the first set (why wait for a round number?), we get into everything cards: how the project came about, how (and by whom) they were designed, making character decisions, soliciting the art, and where exactly they got those back-of-the-card stats. It's a crazy tale, and one we're excited to share with you! Thank you to David Harper and his 2014 article "The Secret Origin and Lasting Impact of the Marvel Universe Cards" (on SKTCHD) for inspiring this episode.___________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. [01:40] You Should Try Fixing Your Diet Before Putting Drugs In Your Body We can improve people's health significantly through diet. Diet will decrease your risk of chronic disease by about 70%. If you get the food right, many health symptoms will correct themselves. Everyone feels better when they have adopted a ketogenic diet. [07:10] Dr. Hopper Reveals The Best Cure For Cancer People often ask Dr. Hopper what the best treatment for cancer is. The best cancer treatment is not to get it in the first place. When you age, you don't need to get heavy and sick. Most likely, you get heavy and sick because of your diet. You can have diabetes for a decade, which will be wholly reversed through a ketogenic diet. Even atherosclerosis is reversible through diet. [10:20] How Keto Tackles Obesity, Insulin Resistance, and Inflammation Counting calories has been pretty much disproven. It turns out this model just doesn't work. Obesity is a result of chronic exposure to a high carbohydrate diet. Carbohydrates elevate your blood sugar dramatically. Also, obesity makes insulin resistance worse and inflammation worse. It's a vicious cycle! Inflammation is the root cause of most cardiovascular diseases. Sugar and high carbohydrate diets are causing inflammation. Overall, you can make your mitochondria healthier through diet and exercise. [19:05] How Does Ketosis Lower Inflammation In The Body? Ketones are produced when you metabolize fats. When you switch to fat metabolism, it triggers more antioxidant reactions within the cell. Ketones will reduce the amount of fat within the cells. High-sensitivity C-reactive Protein (hs-CRP) is the best measure of your chronic inflammation. You want that number to be low. Exercise is one of the best ways to stimulate mitophagy. Mitophagy helps remove aged and damaged mitochondria. [32:45] How Do You Produce Glucose In Your Body Without Eating Sugar? You need glucose in your blood. If you don't eat carbohydrates, your liver has a mechanism called gluconeogenesis. Gluconeogenesis will help your liver cells create glucose through non-sugar sources. You need about a teaspoon of sugar in your blood at any time. Gluconeogenesis will also burn an extra 250 calories a day through that process. [43:00] Studying The Ketogenic Diet on Women With Metastatic Breast Cancer Dr. Hopper did a study on women with metastatic breast cancer. He put them on a ketogenic diet. However, women have different types of breast cancers, and they are taking various types of medications. Dr. Hopper provides all the food for them; he knows exactly what they are eating. Anecdotally speaking, he has seen significant improvements. The ketogenic diet had the same effect on these women as on an average healthy population. A very positive therapeutic benefit to a well-formulated ketogenic diet is concomitant treatment. [52:00] How To Improve Your HDL Cholesterol Levels You want less LDL and more HDL. Three things improve HDL: Exercise Alcohol Saturated Fats There's no relationship between saturated fat in the diet and cardiovascular disease. In reality, it has much more to do with how much sugar is in your diet. If your LDL is too high, a physician will recommend putting you on a statin. AND MUCH MORE!
