Rebecca's workscape included tangling with a major medical situation. This had her reflecting on limitations and directions. With such a challenge, she found herself using techniques learnt at work to nimbly navigate a way forward without having all the answers to her questions. She shares with Helen wisdom gained across her whole (and long) workscape.

Episode 164. Do you ever travel somewhere and feel like it's "home?" Or how about the opposite - you arrive and want to leave as soon as you put down your bags? Astrology may have something to say about that. In this episode of Astrology Bytes, Rebecca Gordon talks about Astrocartography, a method of locational astrology that shows how the placements of the planets affect the vibe you might feel in one location versus another. Astrocartography is unique for each individual's chart - it's basically a "map" of where the stars were rising or setting at the time you were born. This creates "planetary lines" that show why you might love one place (Venus) and find another not-so-great (Saturn). It's also used in the Solar Return. Rebecca shares the basics you need to begin understanding this fascinating method!
Episode 162. Did you know astrology can be a fantastic tool for entrepreneurs? I use it in my business all the time. The reason why: it works. In this episode of Astrology Bytes, I'm joined by one of my favorite astrologers, Rebecca Gordon, to talk about astrology for business. We discuss the role of the natal chart in determining your career and leadership style, plus how to hire the right team to support your biz. You'll also learn about using astrological transits for intelligent timing and more. Rebecca also shares her unique way of looking at the natal chart as an "ecosystem." Once you learn her method, you'll never look at a chart the same way again. We also talk about her program, Astrology For Entrepreneurs. I've taken the course myself, and it is excellent.

As we are getting a bit more freedom (whether temporary or permanent) and venturing back into restaurants, we hear a lot about labour shortages. Why are restaurants struggling to find people to work? Is this novel and due to the pandemic or is it a broader systemic problem. Bruce McAdams and Rebecca Gordon wrote a piece in the Conversation (https://theconversation.com/worker-shortage-or-poor-work-conditions-heres-whats-really-vexing-canadian-restaurants-167614) suggesting that at least part of the problem is that many (not all) operators don't offer appealing jobs. Mike talks to them both about their article and issue broadly. We often hear challenges about hiring across the food system from farm to fork and, while this discussion is specific to restaurants, there are likely lessons for anyone who hires people in the food system.

Astrology is a subject that was held in the highest regard at least as far as 3-4 thousand yrs. It's a subject that was studied by the Babylonians, ancient Egyptians, Arabs, Greeks, Europeans, and on and on. Until the 17th century, astrology was considered a scholarly tradition, and it helped drive the development of astronomy. It was commonly accepted in political and cultural circles, and some of its concepts were used in other traditional studies, such as alchemy, meteorology, and medicine. My next guest shifted how I relate to my life experience and made me feel intensely more connected to my place in the Universe. Rebecca Gordon is a renowned New York City astrologer, founder of 17-year running School My Path Astrology, and author of 'Your Body and the Stars' from Simon & Schuster. These days, COVID-19 has many people looking to leadership for guidance and answers. I think in times of emergency and crisis, the small gripes we may have with leadership don’t seem to matter quite as much. We are willing to work together in these times to work towards a common goal. If you work in a restaurant, you know this all too well. If you had to stop for every small problem a busy restaurant shift would fall apart. Leadership, direction, and communication are vital and necessary to getting the job done. For anyone who is new to hearing the direct, needs based, tone we may find in times of crisis. Welcome to what its like in restaurant almost every day. This week I chat with an excellent restaurant leader. Rebecca Gordon has managed me in the past and we discuss leadership in restaurants, what is happening now in covid-19 and what we seeing changing moving forward. This is an episode of Behind the Pages - the podcast of the Journal on Education in Emergencies. Join us for these exciting and timely conversations with JEiE authors about their work on education in regions affected by crisis and conflict. According to UNHCR, only 3 percent of refugees globally have access to higher education. While several organizations have attempted to increase refugee participation in higher education, they have struggled to address the full breadth of challenges that prevent refugees from accessing these programs. In their article “Access to Higher Education: Reflections on a Participatory Design Process with Refugees,” Oula Abu-Amsha, Rebecca Gordon, Laura Benton, Mina Vasalou, and Ben Webster describe an approach to addressing this issue utilizing participatory design to develop a higher education program for Syrian refugees in the Middle East.
