Avenue Red turned up to Affinity at Eastern Bloc Records in Manchester's Northern Quarter back on the 17th July 2024... what a night! Event founder Max Howard AKA Maxxitrax had just kicked off a delightfully enchanting warm-up set and our ever-trusty recorder was plugged into the mixer, soundchecked and activated as quickly as possible... sadly the first few very dazzling and trippy records were missed from the recording, but what was captured 'till the end of his set was just beautiful. Max is clearly a selector's selector with top drawer technical skills. Proper solid intro vibes for a vibrant, hot summers evening session on Stevenson Square, which also later featured Tribe, Damo B and DJ Mindbender. And finally... here it is! "This is a recording of my opening set from my last Affinity party held at Eastern Bloc. I wanted to use the opportunity to play records that I wouldn't get to play in a peak time or closing slot that I will usually play in. I had picked some records out that fit this narrative but turned up without a game plan. Luckily I managed to work things out so that I could play some soul tracks to start out with and then build tension up gradually. I really enjoyed the process, hopefully the listeners will enjoy it too. Welcome to DRR Podcast 099, this week we welcome Rennie Foster, Canadian House & Techno Wizard based in Vancouver. Rennie Foster has been a well-respected figure in the Canadian music and art community for over two decades. He influenced many as an early pioneer of the Hip-Hop / B-Boy movement, and later the House Music and Techno / Rave scene, participating in the first events in Western Canada during the birth of these now common urban subcultures. He is also very well known within the niche of graffiti art for his early work, having been archived in several published books. Rennie relocated to Tokyo Japan in 2004 and became an important part of the Japanese club scene, playing all over Japan in venues such as Womb, ageHa, and Yellow, maintaining DJ residencies in Tokyo and Kyoto at the Metro club and at the Nagisa Music Festival in Tokyo and Osaka. Rennie was consistently ranked in the top 50 DJs in Japan by LOUD Magazine until re-locating back to Canada in 2011. Rennie is currently a resident DJ at Western Canada's top after-hours club, Gorg-O-Mishin Vancouver, BC, regularly traveling to play as a guest at underground venues across Canada, Detroit, New York,and Paris and has played festivals such as Shambhala and Bass Coast among others. Rennie Foster has released music with Jack White's Third Man Label, classic dance music labels including Transmat, F-Communications, Synewave, Teknotika, Subject Detroit, and is widely recognized for his underground anthem Devil's Water on Rebirth Records. Rennie has remixed, or been remixed by, some of the top names in dance music such as Juan Atkins, James Zabiela and Swayzak. He has released many singles, EPs, and four full length albums. He runs a signature record label RF and continues to produce tough urban house music and stylish techno for cutting edge dance music imprint including Goldmin Music and Skylax Records in Paris and the Detroit based Soiree Records. In addition, Henry C is always expanding his knowledge for music, nowadays by pursuing new sounds through production. With 5+ years of experience, constantly practicing and mastering his mixing techniques, Henry C has been able to achieve quite some recognition around the underground scene in Vancouver, Canada. He is been a resident DJ for the last two years at one of the biggest clubs in underground music in the city, Are you MIA. Where he has manage to establish himself as one of the favourite to open up for big shows. Such as: Dom Dolla, Dillon Nathaniel, Dubfire, Eagles & Butterflies, Josh Butler, Gene Farris, Pete Tong, Richy Ahmed, Sonny Fodera and more. His also currently part of the team and has started by helping with the bookings for Saturdays at the club. Also, he has manage to be a solid member of the best after hours club in Vancouver, Gorg-O-Mish. Holding up a resident DJ for three years. He has proven to have the skills and style to keep his name on top with some really talented artists in the city. Such as Derrick Vnuk, Kevin Shiu, Rennie Foster, Sivz and more. This year, at this club he played his longest live set to date, 6 hours set. Thinking he can still offer some more to the community, He teamed up with some of his closest friends to create this new group or movement called "The Initiative". Which in less than a year, they have achieved quiet some recognition around members of this city. They pulled off two underground raves with almost a 1,000 attendees, Now they have the opportunity to bring their events to different nightclubs around the city. They are bringing this new energy and look to their well-known parties. Henry C has also achieve some recognition and love around some countries in Latin America, such as Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia and others. Looking into new horizons this following year 2022, where he plans to find bookings all around Canada, and Latin America following his passion for connecting, dancing and sharing his view on music. Jay Di is also a Co-Founder of "The Initiative" which hosts many exciting and underground events within the City to support the scene and also follow his passion. Ste releases his 'Beneath The Shell' track as part of the 'Illuminate The Night' Compilation, curated by Rennie Foster, featuring a collection of RF regulars, plus new rising producers such as Ste Flynn himself. Уважаемый музыкант и звукоинженер Danny Bonnici записал свежую пластинку The Golden Key для австралийского лейбла Balance. Для сегодняшнего эфира я выбрал оригинальную версию одноименного трека, которая очень грувовая и мелодичная. Восточное настроение задает правильности и трендовости звучанию The Golden Key и не секрет, что такое звучание мне очень по душе сегодня. Популярный нынче лейбл All Day I Dream у меня сегодня представлен треком Nazca от шведского продюсера Jonas Rathsman. Потрясающая вещь, в которой особо хочется отметить добротный басс, яму и шикарный выход из нее - тот момент, когда мурашки по коже, а это так важно сегодня. Музыкант из Германии Hannes Bieger издал на британском гиганте Bedrock звездную пластинку Stars, ворвавшись на первые строчки progressive чартов. Пластинка полностью соответствует стилистике лаборатории Bedrock, из которой выходят только качественные и действительно звучащие вещи. Лейбл Bedrock - это всегда знак качества, который лично у меня ассоциируется с задумчивыми и глубокими ритмами progressive house и темного techno звучания. Это всегда что-то особенное, атмосферное, возможно мечтательное, но одновременно очень высокое и сильное, глубокое и серьезное. Дальше по курсу трек от моих друзей из России - это уже знакомый моему слушателю питерский проект blaktone с потрясающим треком Distant Memories. Очень атмосферная пластинка, которая в данном случае выступает в роли экватора сегодняшего эфира. Известнейший лейбл Саши Last Night On Earth порадовал меня треком Джереми Олендера под названием Passagen. Как и в случае с Bedrock не могу не отметить, что данная работа полностью написана под звучание лейбла Last Night On Earth. Джереми является потрясающим музыкантом и он в очередной раз это доказывает релизом на столь именитом импринте. Культовый британский лейбл Anjunadeep порадовал великолепной пластинкой Closing Doors от израильского продюсера Khen. Честно говоря, я был очень удивлен, увидев имя израильтянина на конверте релиза, т.к. данный артист у меня больше ассоциируется с релизами на таких лейблах как Sudbeat, Lost & Found, вышеупомянутым Bedrock, microCastle. Очень атмосферная и напористая работа, под стать финишной прямой сегодняшнего эфира. Вне сомнения, я считаю данную работу заглавной в его последнем альбоме Moments Of Clarity, который увидел свет на собственном лейбле Эльке Days Like Nights. Born and raised in the small town of Prnjavor, Dragan first got in touch with electronic music trough a friend who gave him an album of Mauro Picotto. His interest in techno and minimal music grew fast and he soon discovered the beautiful world of electronic music. After some parties Dragan got to know the right people and started mixing records in 2004, and soon playing in few towns of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
