Whoa buddy are y'all in for a treat! For this episode Alan and Heather were live and in person in the middle of Time Square with Jasmine Rafel and Cassidy Hamilton - two brilliant Queer artists who are truly shaking things up! It was a conversation that none of us wanted to end. Jump in on this truly exceptional conversation between three lesbians and an Alan. From deconditioning gender “norms” to learning to express yourself no matter what and so much more. Don't wait to dive into this episode. Jasmine has over a decade of experience working in the dance industry for the likes of Ariana Grande, JoJo Siwa, Tori Kelly, and more, and is now making her Broadway debut as Imogen in & Juliet. Cassidy is a writer/producer who has spent her career developing new works theatre projects working underneath some of the industry's most successful producers behind projects like Broadway's ROCKTOPIA and The Trans Siberian Orchestra, and currently serves as an associate producer on AVALONA: An Immersive Musical. Together, not only are they both producing Co-Founders of SKYLAR STUDIOS, they are also a queer couple working in the industry and have an upcoming show called Pretty, Witty, and Gay Cabaret coming up this Sept 27th at GreenRoom42 with a new cast of industry trailblazers from Broadway's biggest shows, such as & Juliet, SIX, Moulin Rouge, KPOP and more. They created this show to playfully challenge the heteronormativity of the American musical by providing a refreshing and exuberant new queer twist on your favorite Broadway hits. Connect with Jasmine on Instagram. Connect with Cassidy on Instagram. Grab your tickets to Pretty, Witty, and Gay! Make sure to follow this podcast everywhere you find podcasts, leave a rating and a review, and slip into our Instagram DMs at @wasitchance. More about Heather via @vickeryandco on Instagram, @Braveheather on TikTok, and listen to The Brave Files More about Alan via @theatre_podcast on Instagram and listen to The Theatre Podcast with Alan Seales EPISODE TAKEAWAYS: Live, in person, interview from Time Square Gender “rules” deeply affect what artists believe they can and should be pursuing. It's time to get rid of them. It's imperative that we create spaces for people can be on the outside what they feel they are on the inside. Gender expression is not exclusive to the Queer community. All art is always growing, changing, and expanding. Sometimes coming out and accepting a “label” is about other people because it's easier for someone else. Once you make a choice to live your truest self it stops feeling like a risk and becomes required to survive. Jasmine moved to NYC from LA in 6 days to take the job with & Juliet. This dream came true almost as soon as she decided to stop pursuing Broadway work. As always, trust the universe because it has your back. Cass's heart belongs to new works and developmental theatre. It's all about learning to trust yourself and put yourself out there. Hold discomfort for a second longer than seems possible and seeing what shows up. Try what your heart tells you to peruse! Listen to where the universes is pushing you. Each failure is a stepping stone to the next best thing if you learn from it. The dream changes. Allow it to change. Get comfortable with the journey. Australian raised Toby Rand, is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter and recording artist. Toby currently sings for the band Radio XX. RAND starred as a lead, in the hit “Broadway” musical ROCKTOPIA. Rocktopia toured the USA extensively during 2020. Rand co-founded new band ASHENMOON with Garry Beers (INXS) and Jimmy Khoury (Beth Hart). Their music derives from electronic pop of INXS fused with anthemic classic rock n roll. AshenMoon's debut record release is due early 2020. Rand's primary artistry is his solo project Toby Rand and The FutureKind. This music is a blend of raw, gut-wrenching vocals with anthemic sonics, live instrumentation and beautiful strings of the Hamburg (Germany) symphony orchestra. In 2006, RAND became household name for his appearance on the CBS TV show Rockstar: Supernova with Tommy Lee, Jason Newstead, Gilby Clarke and Dave Navarro. The show was seen by over 20million viewers each week and ended with RAND as runner-up and signed record deal. As a result, RAND has a rich musical background and extensive touring experience across the globe with his (award-winning) band, JUKE KARTEL. Juke Kartel had numerous songs on charts around the world and tours with SLASH, Rockstar Supernova, Nickelback, Linkin Park, OZZY Osborne and many more. His voice and music are heard frequently in film and television. RAND is also involved in philanthropy. He uses his writing to support international Breast Cancer Research, the youth of Los Angeles, and his children's animation projects, ‘Pom Pom Crew' and ‘Eco Giraffe' Co-writing music with Philippa Pomeranz for said animations, Rand is inspired by encouraging children to live with love, positivity, social and environmental awareness. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dadcastco/support

How do you find the joy and balance in creativity?Alyson Cadena is a bilingual singer-songwriter and powerhouse vocalist. She started her musical career by accident, when her father gifted her a Groupon for vocal lessons with celebrity vocal coach Craig Derry. What was intended to be a month-long hobby turned into 7 years of intense vocal and industry training alongside Grammy nominees & winners, platinum-selling artists, and Broadway stars. In 2017, Alyson participated in the televised talent competition “Ecuador Tiene Talento”, where she won a gold buzzer from the judges that sent her straight to the semifinals. In 2018, she debuted on Broadway as part of the cast of Rocktopia at the Broadway Theatre. Alyson is focused now on creating her own original music, and merging vulnerable and emotion-driven themes with honest and unfiltered lyrics. She often compares herself to Adele, but if she was a potty-mouth Latina from Queens. She is praised for her “powerful, clear voice” by The New York Times, hailed by critics for her “radiant, vocally assured, dramatically subtle and artistically imaginative” performances (Washington Post), and celebrated for her “sultry and seductive readings” (Opera News). His ongoing career with the "Trans-Siberian Orchestra", the multi-platinum selling band who sold over 1 million tickets in 6 weeks of 2018, has launched him into a new direction of performing. The late Paul O’Neill discovered his talent in 2011 and brought him in to the studio where he sang, not only, TSO songs but everything from Aerosmith to Led Zeppelin as well. A friendship and working relationship was formed and the rest is history. His time with TSO has allowed him to share the stage with some of the best in the business and recently the Hall of Fame inductee Joan Jett. Speaking of Hall of Fame, in 2017 he was inducted in to the "Rock Godz Hall of Fame" along side such greats as Lita Ford and Kenny Aronoff. After receiving his B.F.A. from Shenandoah University, he took his talents to NYC where his first audition ever as a professional actor landed him the lead role in the National Tour of "Broadway’s Saturday Night Fever" based on the hit movie starring John Travolta. This would begin his extensive touring career, where for the next 5 years he would jump from show to show including the smash hits "RENT and Miss Saigon" and more. During his run in "Broadway’s Rocktopia", he shared the stage with icons in the Rock world. Pat Monahan from Train, Dee Snider from Twisted Sister and another Hall of Fame Robin Zander from Cheap Trick! Oh, and If you look closely you’ll see him performing behind Channing Tatum in the Coen Brothers hit "Hail Caesar!" Since 2010 he’s produced and starred in a number of Tribute acts, ranging from "The Beatles, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, The Beach Boys" and many more. He’s a Virginia boy, turned New Yorker and now resides in sunny Southern California where he lives with his wife Meredith and 2 sons Maxwell and Billy Van. Operatic soprano Alyson Cambridge has had a lot of laudatory adjectives thrown her way — radiant, powerful, revelatory are just a few. Add to the list: fit. A dedicated runner and strength trainer, she adheres to a consistent workout and wellness plan geared to make her a strong, healthy and resilient performer. She started singing when she was 12 and debuted at the Metropolitan Opera at 24. She has appeared with numerous opera companies and stepped out on Broadway last year in Rocktopia, a mash-up of classic rock and classical, where her endurance — which allowed her to hit an expansive range show after show after show — didn’t go unnoticed. We chatted with the award-winning singer, who lives in New York, about her love affair with running, how she strategizes her sleep and nutrition for peak performance energy, why she refuses to be too precious about taking care of her voice and what goals she has her sights on in the opera world and beyond. On Alyson’s workout playlists: Upbeat pop, EDM, techno “Too Close,” Alex Clare “I Dare You,” The xx “Thank U, Next,” Ariana Grande Follow Alyson on Instagram @alysoncambridge and Twitter @AlysonCambridge.
