An almost billion-dollar supplement brand portfolio (you've likely never heard of before) just turned CBUM into a corporate sellout. So, let's talk about it! And even if this deal announcement was released publicly on April 1st…I guarantee there's nothing foolish about this M&A activity. But before I give you the legitimate “insider” deep dive insights I can guarantee won't be found anywhere else on the internet…it would be prudent of me to start by covering key press release details from the RAW Nutrition, BUM Energy, and The Quality Group M&A news. And since the bulk of my audience is based within the United States…maybe beginning with the “buy side” would be ideal. The Quality Group was formed in December 2020 with the business combination of the sports nutrition brand ESN and nutritional products brand More Nutrition. ESN was founded in 2004…and is now the sports nutrition categorical leaders within the German market. And then More Nutrition was founded 13 years after ESN but has leveraged a strong social media presence and influencer marketing…landing the nutritional products brand within the top 3 German market categorical leaders. The Quality Group is headquartered north of Hamburg (Germany) and employs more than 1200 people…mostly due to it currently producing more than half its massive product range in house. And while 2024 full-year financial results weren't released yet, The Quality Group reported revenue of around 680 million Euros (or about $750 million dollars) in 2023. Furthermore, the fourth largest global private equity firm, CVC Capital Partners, acquired a majority stake in The Quality Group about three years ago…valuing the business at 800 million Euros (or about $880 million dollars). So, as you can assume from that mid-2022 business valuation to the beforementioned revenue amount reported 18 months later…the two founders staying operationally active, CVC Capital Partners injection of liquidity, and experienced management team CVC brought on have grown the business substantially (and quickly). But maybe it was that last point, surrounding the desire to find a strategic growth partner and them allowing founders to stay operationally active, that ultimately led to this specific M&A transaction. So, effective immediately…RAW Nutrition's Co-Founder and CEO, Domenic Iacovone, and six-time Classic Physique Mr. Olympia Champion and RAW Nutrition co-owner Chris Bumstead will both become co-owners of The Quality Group. Moreover, RAW Nutrition and The Quality Group will remain independent partners as they seek to build long-term value for their consumers. Founded in 2019, Raw Nutrition had moderate success initially but has exploded since Chris Bumstead came onboard as a co-owner in September 2021. Over the last few years, Raw Nutrition has been recognized as the “Brand of the Year” by both GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe. Additionally, RAW Nutrition was recognized in 2024 as not only the fastest-growing sports nutrition brand (but fastest-growing CPG company overall) by Inc. Magazine. And I alluded to this earlier, but BUM Energy, an upstart energy drink brand created by Chris Bumstead in July 2023…was also included within The Quality Group acquisition. And the final portion of my latest principles thinking content will analyze the future outlook and possible implications surrounding the various stakeholders involved...including the RAW Nutrition, BUM Energy, The Quality Group, CVC Capital Partners, and the supplement industry.

C.H. Wente came to America in the late 1800s from Hamburg Germany, learned to make wine from a German by the name of Charles Krug in the Napa Valley, and in 1883 established his first 47-acre Estate and Winery. He chose the Livermore Valley as it was famed for its excellent soils and climate. In 1908, C.H. planted the first Chardonnay vines in the Livermore Valley.In 1912, second generation and a UC Davis student, Ernest Wente, persuaded his father and founder, C.H. Wente, to import Chardonnay cuttings from a well-known vine nursery, F. Richter Nursery n Montpellier, France, to the Livermore Valley.Ernest hand-picked vines that showed the best health and pronounced flavors, grafted the two together, and propagated those characteristics forward. Ultimately creating what is known as the ‘Wente Clone.'  Today, over 75% of all California Chardonnay stems from the Wente Clone and the Wente Family property. Wente produced sacramental wines throughout prohibition to keep the winery and vineyards in production. After the repeal of the National Prohibition Act (Volstead Act) in 1933, Ernest and his brother Herman Wente released the nation's first varietally-labeled Chardonnay, a 1936 vintage.Ernest and his son Karl L. Wente pioneered new vineyard plantings in 1964 in the Arroyo Seco region of Monterey County. Here they plant Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay. In 1966, Wente Vineyards Tasting Room opens in Livermore Valley, and is one of the first tasting rooms in California. Throughout the late 1970s and till today, the fourth generation Winegrowers Eric, Philip, and Carolyn Wente head operations of the winery, continuing expanding vineyards, winery, and related visitor facilities. In 1986, The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards opened California's third winery restaurant. In addition, the Wente Vineyards annual series launched the Concerts, attracting top entertainers and thousands of guests annually. In 1998, The Course at Wente Vineyards, an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Greg Norman, was opened, enhancing the wine country lifestyle of the Livermore Valley. At the same time, Wente Vineyards has become one of California's most extensive wine exporters to over 75 countries. In 2010, Wente Vineyards received one of the first certifications for a California Certified Vineyard and Winery, and The Course at Wente Vineyards received Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary statusToday, fifth generation winegrowers Karl, Christine, Jordan, Aly, and Niki Wente are actively working in various roles in the winery from operations, viticulture, and marketing. Their legacy is yet to be determined, but they are very passionate about continuing the family tradition of sustainable farming and producing the best-quality wines.

Rabbi Wildes interviews Holocaust survivor Manny Korman at MJE in front of a packed audience to commemorate Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day). The event concluded with some inspiring words from Israel's Minister of Aliyah and Integration and member of the Knesset Ofir Sofer and a stirring rendition of The Hatikvah. Manny Korman was born on December 21, 1931 in Hamburg Germany. Shortly before his 7th birthday, he and his family were taken from their home by the Nazis, and expelled into Poland where he and his older brother Gerd were eventually separated from their parents. After an incredible series of events (which you will hear in this episode) Manny and his brother found his way to England right as WW2 broke out in 1939. The brothers eventually found their way to Brooklyn, NY. Manny attended Queens College and started an illustrious career in education including being the principal of Adrien Block Junior High School in Flushing, NY. He currently mentors principals around the city in developing their own careers. Walker Brandt was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California on July 13, 1966. At age 12 started her own business as a horse trainer and exerciser. In her teens, she moved to Los Angeles and enrolled at Los Angeles Valley College. She worked various part-time jobs while taking classes in business, nutrition science, and child development.During that time, she was approached by a photographer who encouraged Walker to go into modeling and signed with Elite Model Management. When she was 18 years old, Walker moved to Milan, Italy and started her professional model and acting career. In the 1990s she was featured in major Hollywood productions, including City Slickers (1991), Dante's Peak (1997) & Lunarcop (1995), as well as US and international TV shows, including Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990), and Die Gang (1997), to name a few. Some of the projects she worked on took her to locations such as to South Africa where she was able to meet and spend time with Nelson Mandela before his election, laugh backstage with Shirley MacLaine when she was on tour in Africa, and play with baby lions and see wild African elephants in their habitat. Another project took her into the countryside of East Berlin while living in Hamburg Germany during the shooting of a TV series.Walker's image and talents have also been used in dozens of commercials and Ad campaigns for popular national and international brands. In addition to traditional acting roles, she has also hosted and done voice over for several of the brands.In 2001, Walker married Jeff Stafford, and she and her husband raised her stepdaughter. Raising a child motivated her to stay closer to home with her work. During that time, she took courses at Santa Monica College and Orange Coast College as well as serving as a board member of her community organization for a period of time, where her responsibilities included organizing the Neighborhood Watch program for 1700 residents as well as addressing safety & security issues with the city on behalf of the community. Mike Terrana is an American drummer, known principally in the hard rock genre. His first professional work was in 1984 with the Toronto Canada based rockers “Hanover Fist” (MCA records), after which he recorded and toured with various bands, playing various rock bands in New York State.   Between 1987 and 1997, Terrana was based out Los Angeles, and began working with Artists like Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony Macalpine, Steve Lukather (Toto), Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson), and Beau Nasty.   In 1997 Mike relocated to Europe, settling in Hamburg Germany, where he worked with such bands as Gamma Ray, Axel Rudi Pell, Masterplan, Rage and Savage Circus.   During the past two years Mike has been touring member of Tarja (X-singer of Nightwish) and recently recorded her second solo CD entitled “What Lies Beneath” for release in the fall of 2010.
