He grew up in New York and went to college at the University of Maryland. Billy Van Heusen was all east coast until he stepped off a plane in Denver in 1968 and saw the Front Range for the first time. His goal as an undrafted free agent became not just to make the Broncos roster, but to stay in Denver. He did both. In 2019, Billy was named to the Broncos All-Time Top 100 Team. He played 9 seasons in Denver and was a top 10 NFL punter in 5 of those years. He was quite athletic at other positions as well: he had 82 catches as a wide receiver, scored 11 touchdowns and averaged 20 ½ yards per catch. He also carried the ball on occasion. As a running back he had 13 carries for 171 yards and 1 touchdown (a 66-yard return on a fake punt). In the middle of his NFL career in 1972, like most players in that era, Billy started a second job when he got his Colorado real estate license. He dabbled in real estate for the next few years until he realized he was done with football in 1977. The wrap on his career was not by choice: after the 1976 season some controversy boiled up regarding how some players felt after they were told their head coach John Ralston was being retained. The player's thoughts about Ralston made it to the media and Billy saw the writing on the wall when he was called out for it. Despite Ralston not being retained as head coach, Billy was cut on the last day of training camp in 1977. After his playing career was over, Billy stayed in Denver and real estate became his full-time job and he's still going strong today with his Billy Van Heusen Team.
For years, actor/comedian Tim Progosh has wondered: with all the great comedians Canada has produced over the years, why is there no Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame?Progosh has done more than wonder. He's made it happen. For more than 20 years, his efforts have been stymied by celebrations cut short by the 9/11 attacks, by deals falling through during a recession, by COVID and actor strike interruptions. Who knew saluting the funny was such a serious and challenging business? On this podcast episode, Progosh tells how -- while still set on an eventual brick and mortar venue -- he was able to gain the political smarts to get a virtual Hall off the ground. This year's inductees include Eugene Levy and Martin Short, the cast of SCTV as a troupe, Jim Carrey and Red Green Show star and creator Steve Smith and even late great Hilarious House of Frightenstein comedy chameleon Billy Van. Going even further back, early film star Marie Dressler and radio's The Happy Gang also made the Hall. Festivities and live comedy shows take place in Hamilton, Ont., Feb. 21 through 24. Go see the shows (featuring Ron James, Shaun Majumder and other comedians) but first listen as Progosh salutes his Canadian comedy heroes on this week's laugh out loud episode of brioux.tv: the podcast.

As promised, returning to Fika with Vicky this week is Mitch Markowitz. So if we didn't get to your question or comment during his last busy visit, here's your chance. Mitch was Co-Producer for The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, a popular Canadian Children's Television series. It premiered September 4th, 1971 and still runs on various markets today…over 50 years later! However, The Hilarious House of Frightenstein didn't just appeal to children. Also syndicated in markets across the USA, the age of its audience grew along with its size, and it found a home in college dormitories and anywhere people enjoyed laughter, old monster movies, and a bit of randomness. I think I was about 35 before I figured out that Billy Van played all those crazy characters on The Hilarious House of Frightenstein. The series, consisting of 130 episodes cranked out over nine months, premiered more than 50 years ago in 1971. It is one of the most eccentric and enduring, locally-produced, TV shows ever made in Canada. It broke so many rules in childrens television that you'd have to cut it down to about four minutes to get it on a broadcast network today. (Edited versions still play on Crave, Tubi and YouTube.)My guest on this podcast is Mitch Markowitz whose older brother Riff Markowitz took the idea of a horror-spoof kiddie show to Hamilton's CHCH. Mitch helped produce but also, at his brother's urging, appeared on-camera in short segments as "Super Hippy." Vincent Price was flown up from Hollywood to shoot 400 introductory segments which helped the Markowitz's syndicate the series stateside. Jumbo-sized Fishka Rais played Igor, assistant to The Count, Billy Van. Van, later a key comedy player on Sony & Cher, also played Griselda the Ghastly Gourmet, The Librarian, Bwana Clyde Batty, The Oracle, The Maharishi and the Wolfman -- the latter a werewolf disc jockey. Van wasn't supposed to play any of them, but, as Markowitz relates, he stepped in when a Plan-A that would never fly today didn't pan out. Van's tour-de-force was an inspiration to Mike Myers, Jim Carrey and other Canadians who grew up with the series before hitting it big in Hollywood. Markowitz shares those stories and talks about the recent animated spinoff in a Halloween party episode even "Brucie" -- a copyright-infringing monster The Count was always trying to revive -- would enjoy.

A wonderful conversation with Playwright, Writer and Actor Billy Van Zandt. Billy shared stories from his times working with Don Rickles, Frank Sinatra, Bob Newhart, Penny Marshall, Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and others. We talk comedy, acting, life, the process of writing, his brother Steven, and my favorite -- the story of the time he, Sean Penn and Tom Cruise sat outside Lucille Ball's house waiting to meet her. His plays can be seen around the world, and his book 'Get in the Car, Jane!' is available on Amazon (link below) wherein he recounts first hand stories with Old Hollywood and modern Hollywood Actors, as well as insight into what goes into working in Showbiz.

Like they're in there. The Hilarious House of Frightenstein is a gleefully twisted kids show responsible for terrorizing generations of children and stoners alike throughout the 70s and beyond. All 100+ episodes of the horror-themed series were shot in Hamilton, Ontario, in the span of just 9 months — and it shows. Special guest Quincy Raby joins us on a journey back in time, looking at schlocky, (probably) coke-fuelled basic cable programming.

Today we talk to renaissance man Stacey Case about Who's the Man? Billy Van! Stacey was the proprietor of Hamilton's Billy Van museum, and worked with author Greg Oliver on this in-depth bio of the Canadian performer (and, of course, star of Hamilton's legendary Hilarious House of Frightenstein).
Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Billy Van Zandt, Actor, Writer, Producer and Author of “Get in the Car, Jane: Adventures in the TV Wasteland”, about his career as an actor, comedy writer and producer of several hit series as well as his hilarious book. Billy discusses working with such greats as Bob Newhart, Don Rickles, Brook Shields, Jamie Lee Curtis and Olympia Dukakis and provides an insiders view on the inner workings of Hollywood and the TV studios. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com
INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 22:20 In the great history of TV comedy names like Gleason, Kovacs, Carson, Belushi, Newhart roll off the tongue. Yet there is a name that SHOULD have, and in all reality COULD have made that list… Van. Van? Van who? Billy Van. This brilliant and versatile Canadian had the talent and the opportunity to become a superstar, yet, he decided he would rather stay in Canada and lead a more quiet and private life. Van did achieve cult status as the creator and star (and star and star ETC) of Canadian Children's show The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, a show that has been called kids entertainment on acid, a sorta of sketch comedy series about monsters hosted and narrated by Vincent Price, where Van plays not one, not two but TEN characters!!!!! But Billy Van did more, so much more and thankfully fellow Great White Northerner Greg Oliver along with Stacey Case has documented this amazing man in the new book Who's The Man? Billy Van! Greg Oliver is a prolific Canadian writer, historian, and recipient of the James C. Melby Historian Award. He has written extensively on both Hockey and Professional Wrestling and is the co-founder of Slam Wrestling, check out his site and BUY HIS BOOKS!! http://www.oliverbooks.ca/the-billy-van-story.html So kick back, enjoy and please rate and share the show..let's keep the audience growing. Talking with someone who has spent their entire life writing, and creating and doing it successfully will only leave you wanting to know more about them. Which is exactly what it was like getting to speak with Billy Van Zandt. I got the pleasure to speak with him for a little over an hour about how he met his writing partner and best friend Jane Milmore, growing up in NJ, his acting career, writing for Bob Newhart, Lucille Ball, Richard Lewis, Don Rickles, an - look if I kept going with this list we'd be here for months. Please enjoy the interview, ignore me, and soak up all the knowledge and fun Billy brings as a guest. Enjoy!!
Trekkies will remember Billy Van Zandt from one memorable appearance in the Star Trek franchise, but you may know him better for his acclaimed work as a writer and producer for TV & theater, alongside his writing partner Jane Milmore. Born in New Jersey, Billy headed to Hollywood to pursue an acting career inspired by Lucille Ball. Logically, his first stop was Lucille's home, and he has a story about that, as well as working with her and Gale Gordon on "Life with Lucy" and later producing an Emmy award-winning CBS TV special about her. He is also known for his roles in "Jaws 2" with Rob Scheider and "TAPS" with Tom Cruise, Sean Pen, and George C. Scott, which we spend some time chatting about today. Billy stepped into the world of Trek in 1979 as the Rhaadarite in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and talks about being cast in the film, his thoughts on the new look of Trek and their uniforms, memories of the principal cast, and his extensive makeup process with Ve Neill to become this new type of alien. We also discuss his TV writing career with Jane, which includes "Newhart," "Martin," "The Wayans Bros," "The Hughleys," "Daddy Dearest," "Suddenly Susan," and others. Billy has great stories of working with Martin Lawrence, Bob Newhart, Shawn & Marlon Wayans, Richard Lewis, and Don Rickles! Plus, his stage career with some of his notable plays like "You've Got Hate Mail!", "The Property Known as Garland" and "High School Reunion: The Musical." This episode is dedicated to the memory of Jane Milmore, who passed away one year ago on this date. Trek Untold: The Star Trek Podcast That Goes Beyond The Stars!
Plus, his stage career with some of his notable plays like "You've Got Hate Mail!", "The Property Known as Garland" and "High School Reunion: The Musical." It's so cool when I get to interview such creative and multi-talented people for my season finales, don't you think? Billy Van Zandt certainly fits the bill. His publicist Jian, who was also a HUGE help in setting up the interview, sent me a copy of his book, Jane, Get In The Car, which I read off my computer, so I can't call it a page-turner, legally...maybe a slow-computer screen scroll down, so you can enjoy all of the chapters? It's a fun read, regardless. The writing style of the book is like how Billy was in the interview-straightforward, funny, interesting, and entertaining. All of this made him an ideal guest for the podcast, too. It's chock full of stories that give you a great insight on the life of a tv writer. Trust me, you'll enjoy it. Maybe Billy will make a play out of it? Whatever he does next, I'm sure will be something to keep the masses entertained. Much thanks for coming on the show, sir! Welcome to Story Time with Darcie. In every episode, I read you a piece of my own short fiction. I’m an eclectic writer, so you may be surprised by the genres and situations, but what these stories have in common is their exploration of big ideas. This month, Story Time With Darcie is sharing it’s first story that requires a CONTENT WARNING for adult language, gun violence, and sexual violence. Please, take extra care of children in ear shot, and if any of these are triggers for you, perhaps skip this month. For the last few months, as the world has suffered under the weight of Covid-19, I have shared light, funny stories. Yet our current situation continues, the world keeps spinning, and time keeps passing. Our other global issues and concerns are not self-isolating. And perhaps, you are ready to think about what kind of world we want to rebuild as our isolations end. I originally wrote Refuge in July of 2018, when Trump was detaining refugees crossing the US southern border. The story is a satire, though not a humourous one. Writing it was a way for me, as a Canadian, to work through my fear, anger, and sadness. Like Three’s A Crowd, you can read the original version of Refuge on my facebook page or in my book Musings: a collection of short stories. Also like Three’s A Crowd, this is a re-edited, remastered, reworked, 2.0 version of Refuge. I’m delighted to welcome Nikolas Yuen as today’s guest voice. Nik found his way into acting through a series of fortunate events and has been hooked on it ever since. While he enjoys the stage, he is particularly passionate about voice acting, and is eager to lend his voice to projects that can make use of his vocal talents. You should check out Bleak December Inc's "The Wickerman" and "Return to Frightenstein," the latter of which saw him (perhaps 'heard' is the better word) take on The Wolfman, a role initially played by the legendary Billy Van some forty years prior. I’m fortunate that recent events have also brought Nik here! This is not the last time you’ll hear his voice on Story Time With Darcie! (He has helped me with special stories for August and October.) But before I get too far ahead of myself, let’s hear today’s story … Well, that’s it for another episode of Story Time with Darcie. Special thanks to Nikolas Yuen for lending his voice to our villains this month. If you'd like to hear more from Nik you’ll find him here on Story Time With Darcie in August and October, as a guest voice on Bleak December (bleakdecember.com) and The Music Box (musicboxstories.com), and when Covid frees us back to social interactions you can watch him on stage with King’s Town Players, Domino Theatre, and more. You make magic with any character you take on, Nik! I can’t wait to introduce more of my characters to our listeners through your voice. Listeners, if YOU would like to become a voice on Story Time With Darcie, please, reach out! My eclectic stories need a variety of voices, and yours will be a welcome addition! Thank you for listening. To read more of my stories and perhaps inspire my next one, join me on facebook at DarcieTKelly. And of course, subscribe on your podcatcher of choice for future episodes of Story Time With Darcie. Until next month, stay well and keep smiling.Direct Link to text version of original (not 2.0 version) Refuge.

Mitch Well is the co-founder, with brother Alex, of Billy Van Creamy, an ice cream business that makes natural, organic and vegan ice cream, just like you would make it at home from fresh and simple ingredients like milk, cream, sugar and eggs.In this episode, you’ll hear how Mitch and Alex’s entrepreneurial journey started with a home ice-cream maker and a gap they spotted in the Melbourne food truck scene for sweet desserts. With a little knowledge, a ‘can do’ attitude and a lot of personal sweat equity, the two brothers have bootstrapped the growth Billy Van Creamy from a bowling club kitchen and furniture-van turned food-truck, into two bricks and mortar stores and a foray into the retail grocery channel. And in the Aftertaste section, I reflect back on my chat with Mitch and share the 2 key questions you need to answer to create winning growth strategies to guide your food and beverage business. You can learn more about Billy Van Creamy and connect with Mitch on:https://www.billyvancreamy.com.auhttps://www.facebook.com/billyvancreamyhttps://www.instagram.com/billyvancreamy/You can find more information about the Business Model Canvas by Strategyzer here:https://www.strategyzer.com/canvas/business-model-canvasMany thanks to this episode’s sponsor, the Food Innovation Centre at Monash.Find out how they can help your business become more innovative: https://www.foodinnovationcentre.com.au
Whether it’s performing to sold out arenas in the “Trans-Siberian Orchestra”, tearing it up on Broadway (recently in “Rocktopia”) or on the screen, Dustin Brayley has demonstrated what a power-house performer he is. For over a decade he has been on, virtually, a non-stop train, bringing his skills to the masses. His amazing career as a musician and actor proves that he’s one of the best at what he does. His ongoing career with the "Trans-Siberian Orchestra", the multi-platinum selling band who sold over 1 million tickets in 6 weeks of 2018, has launched him into a new direction of performing. The late Paul O’Neill discovered his talent in 2011 and brought him in to the studio where he sang, not only, TSO songs but everything from Aerosmith to Led Zeppelin as well. A friendship and working relationship was formed and the rest is history. His time with TSO has allowed him to share the stage with some of the best in the business and recently the Hall of Fame inductee Joan Jett. Speaking of Hall of Fame, in 2017 he was inducted in to the "Rock Godz Hall of Fame" along side such greats as Lita Ford and Kenny Aronoff. After receiving his B.F.A. from Shenandoah University, he took his talents to NYC where his first audition ever as a professional actor landed him the lead role in the National Tour of "Broadway’s Saturday Night Fever" based on the hit movie starring John Travolta. This would begin his extensive touring career, where for the next 5 years he would jump from show to show including the smash hits "RENT and Miss Saigon" and more. During his run in "Broadway’s Rocktopia", he shared the stage with icons in the Rock world. Pat Monahan from Train, Dee Snider from Twisted Sister and another Hall of Fame Robin Zander from Cheap Trick! Oh, and If you look closely you’ll see him performing behind Channing Tatum in the Coen Brothers hit "Hail Caesar!" Since 2010 he’s produced and starred in a number of Tribute acts, ranging from "The Beatles, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, The Beach Boys" and many more. He’s a Virginia boy, turned New Yorker and now resides in sunny Southern California where he lives with his wife Meredith and 2 sons Maxwell and Billy Van.

Everyone sing along. It's Tom Merritt's birthday.Today, or tonight really, we're tackling a topic we've spoken of before, cloud computing. Yeah, that was back in episode 12, that file is long gone....Today at work there was a presentation about G Suite for education. Hey the university gets google tools for free! Also, no ads, and no data collected. So that's cool, and that's why we're talking about this tonight. What's the deal on those things that Picard signs? Is he accepting TOSs? Hey, wait, in TOS Kirk was always signing things! We like the cloud stuff, and we're pretty excited about the whole thing coming to the university. We also talked a bit about Luba Goy and Billy Van.Hey, Isabelle took pictures of us!mp3 download

If you missed the first half, Jason Cass and Billy Van Jura talked about insurance as a commodity and why that should be seen as your greatest advantage. They also talked about the types compensation model that works and builds perpetuation in your agency. In this second half, Billy switches it up and turns to his own questions about social media. In Part 2, this podcast starts off with Billy Van Jura saying “I want to hit you with your social media.” Billy poses the question: “Is there a percentage formula of how many clients you have to how many social likes or followers you should have?” Listen to Jason’s treatment of this question: in 90% of the time, create a situation in which people will want to buy and the rest of the 10% can be about your agency, about insurance, or about a sale. Tune in once again to Billy Van Jura and Jason Cass in yet another rich conversation. Join the fun!
