Constantine Maroulis hit it big & became a household name during the heyday of “American Idol.”   He is best known today for his iconic star turn in Broadway's Rock of Ages for which he received a Best Actor Tony Award® nomination.  His stage acting work also includes Jekyll & Hyde, The Wedding Singer, RENT, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, The Toxic Avenger, and now he stars in the lead role of the off-Broadway blockbuster musical sensation…Rock & Roll Man.  We discuss: -What was it like growing up and did he always know he had singing & acting chops and did he always want to be a star? -How did he get on American Idol and what was it like taking the country by storm with his breathtaking performances on the show and emerging out of anonymity to an instant star? -How is it like getting on stage and performing in front of tens of millions on TV vs. a more intimate audience of a few hundred people on a stage. Does he get nervous on TV or stage? -How was American Idol's Simon Cowell?  -What made him excited about taking on the iconic, but challenging role of being the first person to ever portray trailblazing DJ Alan Freed (who actually is credited with coining the term Rock & Roll) in an entire show in the extraordinary new Musical Rock & Roll Man.  -What does he hope audiences feel and what does he hope they learn and take away from the show? - Rock & Roll Man features Rock & Roll Classics created by Legends such as Little Richard, Chuck Berry, LaVern Baker, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley & The Killer Jerry Lee Lewis. However, Constantine sings all original songs which require a lot of heavy lifting. He tells us about the creative process in perfecting brand new songs no one ever did prior.  -What it is like getting standing ovations and having people dance in the aisles every show? -What are the secrets to his success and what he would advise other actors or other people in general that want to follow in your footsteps?

The 17th century. The English Civil War. Whitehead, a man of letters, maker of lace, and self-described coward, is tasked with finding and arresting the colleague and rival alchemist who stole his master's papers. He enlists the aid of Cutler, a soldier who claims he can take them to a nearby alehouse, and two deserters, the wily Jacob and dull-minded Friend. Upon arriving at Cutler's destination – not the alehouse, but a wide open field strewn with hallucinogenic mushrooms, the group locates the alchemist, O'Neil. But instead of taking in his man, Whitehead, along with Jacob and Friend, find themselves O'Neil's prisoners. And as Whitehead becomes a literal tool in O'Neil's plot to seek out a deposit of gold in the field, this one-time familiar place quickly turns strange and otherworldly. Today Alexa is joined by Robert ‘Bob' Marks, a voice teacher, coach, conductor, arranger, author and director. His extensive career has seen him act as a musical director for over 200 productions and his clients have included Ariana Grande, Ricky Lake, Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman, Britney Spears, and Ashley Tisdale. His writings have appeared in the Journal of Singing and he has recently published the book 88 Keys to Successful Singing Performances with co-author Dr Elizabeth Gerbi. KEY TAKEAWAYS Bob saw his first musical theatre performance on Broadway when he was five years old. It was Jerry Herman's first show called Milk and Honey. Bob was much more enthralled with the conductor and the orchestra players than he was with what was happening on stage. Bob worked with many stars before they became famous. At the time when Natalie Portman saw him, she hadn't won an Oscar. Britney Spears was sent to Bob by her agent because she had an audition for Les Misérables. Ariana Grande was the younger sister of Frankie Grande who was Bob's student and had just landed a role in Mama Mia on Broadway. It's a wonderful thing to be in control of your own audition with self-tapes. You don't have to deal with a stranger at the piano or worry about tempo as you know what you're singing with.  Bob's book is a collection of 88 short chapters, hence its title: 88 Keys to Successful Singing Performances. People can just read a chapter or two at a time and get what they need.  His book covers vocal health, dealing with voice teachers, finding a voice teacher, finding a coach, and preparing music for the accompanist. Hot, hot, hot, and it t'weren't global warming. Actor, producer, singer, songwriter, Constantine Maroulis, who rocketed to stardom on American Idol (I met him in the green room at his first appearance on The Tonight Show that season), filled us in on the before, during, and after, even singing us a bit of his audition for Simon & company. Always passionate, fun, and full of energy, Constantine gave us the skinny of growing up with a talented older brother (and sister), playing sports, doing theatre, and fronting a band, wanting and doing it all. Before Idol fame, he'd already gotten his Equity card and toured with Rent. Humble ending there led to the life-changing opportunity that he seized big time. Such great insights into the behind-the-scenes. His premature departure (placing 6th) was all part of his master plan in a way, he used being an underdog to his advantage anyway. In a big way. Starring on Broadway in Rock of Ages and garnering a Tony Award, followed - as well as more Broadway, playing and recording rock, doing Tony-nominated work as a producer of Broadway's revival of Deaf West's Spring Awakening, TV and independent feature appearances, he's got a new Broadway show he's working on, a new album, Until I'm Wanted (love Try), recorded during the pandemic, and he's out there performing and accessible. He's vaxxed, boosted, and thrilled to be out there. For all things Constantine, his music and appearances: https://www.constantinemaroulis.com/ His beautiful, articulate daughter, Malena, joined us for a bit, a chip off the ol' gorgeous and got-it-all block. In this episode, I have a conversation with Matt Farnsworth about how he incorporates bodywork into his session in the voice studio. Matt is an accomplished voice teacher, actor, and pianist living and working in NYC. He started teaching voice in 1995 as the consulting coach on Broadway's Rent. Matt has taught hundreds of Broadway actors (Tony winners), film stars (Oscar winners) and recording artists (Grammy Award winners) including Sara Bareilles and Carly Rae Jepsen and American Idol finalists Constantine Maroulis and Pia Toscano. Matt performed on Broadway and regionally in The Who's Tommy, Cats, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Sunset Boulevard and Curtains. Bernie & Sid in the morning kicks off your week with a rundown of all the news that you might've missed over the weekend. The disarray within the Democratic party is reaching its boiling point as activists for the massive spending bill's passing are now stalking the Democratic senators that are opposing the bill. Senator Sinema can't even take a peaceful bathroom break without protesters following her into the stall with a camera phone in her face. When you start to impede on any person's, let alone a representative's right to privacy, then you know you've taken things a step too far. These protesters need to check themselves and ask whether or not these invasive tactics are actually helping their cause, because berating a Senator while they go to the bathroom is not the way to get a point across. In other news, Dr. Anthony Fauci will not and cannot stop seeking attention, as now he's saying it's too soon to tell whether or not gathering for the holidays will be appropriate. Most everyone is ready to move on from the living hell that was this pandemic, but the only reason we can't is because people like Fauci won't let it end. He needs to take several steps back and let us decide for ourselves whether or not we want to gather for the holidays. Also, Vice President Kamala Harris rears her ugly head for a power-walking session, Rand Paul puts his hat in the ring for the smartest man in the senate, and the George Floyd statue wouldn't have been vandalized if it was never erected in the first place. Rich Lowry joins the boys in the second hour of today's program, and Constantine Maroulis checks in for an entertainment report in the final hour. As always, don't miss Lidia Reports and this Monday edition of The Peerless Boilers Beat Bernie Contest.

Happy Friday from Bernie & Sid in the Morning, as the boys close out this week with the same energy they started it with. President Biden's approval ratings continue to plummet but you wouldn't be able to tell just by asking the President, because apparently he doesn't look at his polling numbers! His press secretary Jen Psaki surely would have an answer for you on that front, or at least she should, but Biden's mouthpiece simply blamed the pandemic when asked why Americans don't seem to like her boss. Look even deeper into the prism that is the Democratic party, and you'll find utter disarray within the party because of the massive spending bill the far-left liberals are pedaling in the swamp. Senators Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema are apparently the only two members of the party that still have a shred of bi-partisanship in their bones, as they're the only ones opposing the massive spending proposed by their Democrats. Hopefully they will continue to speak up and save us all from the sense of entitlement that is sweeping through our society at an alarming rate. This sense of entitlement is not the only thing consuming our society, as a massive supply shortage is also sweeping the country. How can we get people to start buying American made products again? President Biden even toted a 'Buy America' initiative in July, though not surprisingly very little progress if any has been made on that front. Mr. NYC body building champion and actor Peter Gaudio joins Bernie & Sid on this Friday morning, along with Brian Kilmeade, Dr. Marc Siegel, and Constantine Maroulis. Be sure you do not miss Lidia Curanaj's Friday report and of course The Peerless Boilers Beat Bernie Contest.

Welcome to the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast, episode 22, 'The Power of Music' with Jason Spiewak, Founder & CEO of JLS Artist Management & Noble Steed Music. JLS Artist Management: a full-service entertainment management company, built to represent a music-centric client base that is active worldwide.   Noble Steed Music: a record label with distribution through DashGo, as well as an artist services company offering world-class service to independent artists. In this episode Jason shares how he connected to music early on in his life. He started with piano lessons when he was just 11 years old.  Jason says, "music has given him everything". He also plays the drums. Jason moved forward and took the stage and the road playing in a band. After 5 years of playing in the band, he then moved on to be an assistant at a record label. You will hear more about this part of his journey. During this time he was then mentored by several who really helped him launch his career.  Jason learned the music business on the independent side of the record company world, with early work experience at Artemis Records, Studio E Records and TVT Records.    He was  co-founded the Warner Music distributed-label Rock Ridge Music in 2004, later to be named that company's President.  Under Jason's leadership, the label enjoyed the success of high-charting releases by Sister Hazel, Rachel Platten, Five.Bolt.Main, and a #1 jazz record by former baseball great Bernie Williams to name a few.He currently manages artists including: Constantine Maroulis, Toby Lightman, and many more that you can view on www.noblesteedmusic.com. The passing of Jason's Dad made him really look at things a bit differently. Jason says, "if there is something that has arisen in you, don't let that be fleeting. Act on the impulse. Too many of us get the signal, ignore it, and than the flare is gone". Jason shares that he is just Dad with his kids, but that the gold records he has are somewhat cool to them. Additionally, Jason donates his time to the Music Is Love Exchange, a charitable organization that leads groups of musicians and fans to Guatemala annually for week-long service trips. Listen in to hear how Jason became a Grammy voting member and his answer for the question, if you knew then what you know now, what would that be?Please subscribe on the Today is the Day Changemakers YouTube Channel and stream on all popular sites. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed having this conversation. Next week I welcome Sloane, Core Belief Consultant.
