Happy New Year! The countdown to Lake George coming to a theater near you begins. Hamid Castro was born in Queens, New York, to immigrant parents. From a young age, Castro demonstrated entrepreneurial drive. At the age of ten, he began a DJ business, performing at local events and earning $500 per week in junior high school, which grew to $1,000 per week in high school. Castro also excelled in wrestling during high school, earning a national ranking. He later wrestled collegiately at New York University (NYU), where he earned a degree in business. Drawing on his athletic background, he attracted an elite and celebrity clientele. At his peak, he was making over $50,000 a month. His fitness business gained media attention, with features in The New York Post.Transition to Filmmaking Encouraged by feedback about his storytelling ability, Castro sold his fitness business and moved to Colombia to focus on screenwriting. Over four years, he taught himself the craft and developed the screenplay for Lake George, a thriller about a convict and father-to-be who must raise $100,000 in one night to save a family member from execution. Despite receiving offers from buyers and streaming platforms, Castro declined due to concerns over creative control. Determined to bring his vision to life, he independently financed the $2 million film, serving as writer, director, producer, and lead actor. The film was completed in December 2023.
