On this week's episode, Alex and Brandon chat about Xenomorphs vs. Yautja. After a long and unexpected break, Alex and Brandon have found time to get back to doing what they do best; talk for a long time about meaningless stuff. The start by recapping their lives over the past few weeks, then move on to unboxing the most recent Marvel and Star Wars boxes from Funko. Then Alex chooses the subject for the ABC's of Geekdom segment, and the boys take a deep dove into the history of a planet in a galaxy far away. After that, they cover corrections from the previous show, including the Zelda escape room game, Mycroft Holmes in the 22nd century, Finn the Human's last name, Harry Potter release dates (again), Ermac's origin, Land Before Time, Call of Duty, tv show spin offs of movies, Russell Crowe, Cara Delevigne, the Wonder Twins, Iron Fist, Perfect Blue, and Johnny Cage. But they don't stop there as they dive right into news, including release dates for the Avatar sequels, characters for the upcoming New Warriors show, a new King Kong tv show, James Gunn writing and directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Carrie Fisher not appearing in Episode IX, Josh Brolin cast as Cable, the passing of Charlie Murphy, Jude Law cast as young Dumbledore for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel, a release date for a new He-Man movie, Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic World 2, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen and Timon and Pumba in the live action Lion King remake, a slew of Disney movie release dates, and an update on Young Justice season 3.After the break, they go over some trailers, including the Last Jedi, Thor: Ragnarok, a new prologue movie for Alien Covenant, Atomic Blonde, Kingsman: the Golden Circle, Cloak and Dagger, the Mist, Injustice 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. Then Alex runs down some hot takes, including Rick and Morty, Skylanders Academy, Death Note, Ash vs. Evil Dead, Preacher, Hell or High Water, and Mulholland Drive. Then, finally, Alex and Brandon have their long-awaited discussion about the controversial movie Alien vs. Predator (spoilers from around 2:30:54-2:55:44). You know they love it, but the only way to find out how much they love it is to listen to their nerd-fueled dissection of it. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
Trick or Treat! Okay, we may be a day late for randomly asking for candy from strangers while dressed up in costumes, but that doesn’t mean this episode is lacking the goodies or the debauchery. We have a jam-packed show for Episode 95, full of Halloween and Hippogriffs, and so much more. There’s cause for celebration, soap boxes to stand on, and plenty of candy to over-indulge in. Before we get to the actual show, we chat about trick-or-treating on Halloween, the Cubs potentially winning Game 7 of the World Series, and what to expect from the Extra Life 24-hour livestream this weekend! Eventually we start talking about what we know best, and that’s the toys-to-life franchises we love. We celebrate the Lightseekers team reaching their goal on Kickstarter, even though there is still time to pledge to their campaign to help them reach their stretch goals! (Lightseekers Kickstarter campaign). Then we laugh about how awesome the Beasts of Balance team is, especially with their real time ship tracking technology. Then we break down the upcoming amiibo releases, as well as theorize about the Animal Crossing Direct, and what might be announced during that. We discuss the big reveal of a Hippogriff being included with the Hermoine Granger Fun Pack in LEGO Dimensions, despite only one of us knowing what that even is and why it’s a big deal. And finally, we discuss the release of Skylanders Academy on Netflix, the Legendary Creation Crystals, and the best lineup of variant figures in a Skylanders game to date! From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. We skip the Inquire This! segment this week, sadly. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always! All this, and more, only in Episode 95! Executive Producers: Jorge Torres! If you marry the worlds of the X-Men School for the Gifted, and Harry Potter with a Futurama sense of humor, you'd have Skylanders Academy. I was treated to a special screening of the first two episodes of this show recently at The London in West Hollywood and had a wonderful interview with cast members Ashley Tisdale (Stealth Elf), Harland Williams (Hugo) and showrunner Eric Rogers (Futurama). Skylanders Academy is an animated action-comedy series that follows the heroic adventures of the Skylanders team, a ragtag group of heroes with unique elemental skills who travel the vast Skylands universe, protecting it from evil-doers. They achieve victory by setting aside their egos, learning to trust one another and fighting as one to maintain harmony and balance in the land. Led by showrunner Eric Rogers (Futurama), the series features the voices of Justin Long (Ask Me Anything) as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical, Phineas and Ferb) as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) as Eruptor and Norm MacDonald (Saturday Night Live) as Glumshanks, and Harland Williams (Superstar, Dumb and Dumber) as Hugo. Additional voice talent includes Susan Sarandon, Daniel Wu, Parker Posey, James Hetfield, Catherine O’Hara, and Chris Diamantopoulos. How's that for a line up? My first impression of this show is that the story is not like anything I've ever seen before in kids animation. Eric created the world based on the very popular Activision Blizzard video game and it's AB's first foray into creating an animated series based on their games. Skylanders requires toy action figures to play the game and has made $3 billion dollars in revenue proving the franchise's popularity. Now Activision Blizzard Studios and Netflix are hoping that popularity translates into an animated series. So much so, it's already been given the green light for a second season. And I can tell you I don't think they'll have any troubling finding an audience for this show. With the rise in popularity of superhero movies and of course the hugely successful world of Harry Potter, I think kids and parents will find this show to be a great addition to their Saturday morning cartoon line-up. Eric tells me he hopes the humor will appeal to both parents and kids and based off of what I saw, he nailed it. I loved having the chance to get to know Ashley Tisdale better and talk to her about her role on this show. She plays a very strong female character called Stealth Elf and I have a feeling we'll see a lot of kids dressed up like her at the next Comic Con or next Halloween. Ashley also tells me she gets asked all the time when she's going to have kids but says she's in no rush. She says she's focusing on producing and other projects right now and doesn't feel any pressure to start a family just yet. My hope is that she'll come back on my show when she does! She also gives some hints about her plans to release more music so make sure you listen to the interview. Heather with Harland Williams (Hugo) and showrunner Eric Rogers (Futurama) Harland Williams plays Hugo and he was cracking me up during our interview. He's also no stranger to the voice over world having been just voiced a character for the raunchy film Sausage Party among other shows. He also shares some info about his new show with Disney called Puppy Dog Pals which is due out next year. And he has a very funny podcast called The Harland Highway which is available on iTunes. Skylanders Academy is a wonderful family show that will expand your child's imagination and teach them about teamwork and friendship. Take a look at this preview and see for yourself. Skylanders Academy will be available on Netflix on October 28th. If you'd like to hear my interviews with Ashley, Harland and Eric you can listen at the player on the top of this article, or on iTunes. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
Look, we can’t always have exciting, big news weeks within the toys-to-life genre, right? As much as we would love to have a packed show full of awesome topics, sometimes we just have to work with the lemons given to us and make lemonade out of them. Besides, with The Great Pumpkin waiting just around the corner, it’s only fitting that this episode is full of more tricks than treats. As David S. Pumpkins would say … ANY QUESTIONS? We start off by checking in on the Lightseekers Kickstarter campaign with less than 10 days to go, and we are encouraged by how close they are! Oh, and we may or may not send a desperate plea to the team to possibly allow us to drive their tank. We then break down the newest update to the LEGO Dimensions Collection Vortex app, since it’s the best option we have for keeping track of our collections (*cough*). Then we break down the newly-announced Nintendo Switch and what that might possibly mean for amiibo. And finally, we talk about the best holiday variant for Skylanders and get excited for the upcoming Skylanders Academy show coming to Netflix this weekend. From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. We then try to stump the experts with the Inquire This! trivia question which is perfectly timed for the Skylanders Academy series. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always! All this, and more, only in Episode 94! Executive Producers: Jorge Torres!
