In this Brush Pass episode of Brush Pass, Le Carre Cast and Barbican Station podcast host Jeff Quest, gives us the lowdown on two spy-related theatrical productions: 'Operation Mincemeat' and 'Dakar 2000'. Operation Mincemeat on Broadway John Golden Theatre   252 W. 45th St., New York, NY The stunning true story of a scheme every bit as dicey, daring, and ridiculous as opening a new musical on Broadway! The best-reviewed show in West End history is now on Broadway! 74 ★★★★★ Reviews and Counting! (which, according to our calculations, adds up to 370 stars) SYNOPSIS: It's 1943, and the Allied Forces are on the ropes. Luckily, they've got a trick up their sleeve. Well, not up their sleeve, per se, but rather inside the pocket of a stolen corpse. Equal parts farce, thriller, and Ian Fleming-style spy caper (with an assist from Mr. Fleming himself), Operation Mincemeat tells the wildly improbable and hilarious true story of the covert operation that turned the tide of WWII. SCHEDULE: March 25–30: Tuesday @7pm, Wednesday @2pm and 7:30pm, Thursday @7pm, Friday @7:30pm, Saturday @2pm and 7:30pm, Sunday @2pm Running Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes with one intermission Dakar 2000 In Senegal on the eve of Y2K, an idealistic Peace Corps volunteer survives a mysterious car accident. An imposing State Department operative immediately takes command of the situation and his safety. Though they couldn't be more different, they form an unlikely relationship. But when it becomes clear that they both have secrets, the volunteer is roped into a darker side of public service – one he can't come back from. Unpredictable at every turn, this world-premiere thriller was commissioned by Manhattan Theatre Club. Written by Rajiv Joseph (Pulitzer Prize finalist for Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo; King James at MTC) and directed by May Adrales (Vietgone and Poor Yella Rednecks at MTC).   Have you watched Operation Mincemeat and/or Dakar 2000? Jace is joined by filmmaker Julia Marchese to chat about her short-film, I Know What You Need. Made through Stephen King's “Dollar Baby” program, the film is styled as a 1970s after school special and uniquely, was actually shot at the University of Maine, in the exact locations mentioned in the story. The film has played in festivals worldwide, earning more than 15 awards to date. “Dollar Baby” was an arrangement in which iconic author Stephen King would grant permission to students and aspiring filmmakers theater producers to adapt one of his short stories for just $1.King retains the rights to his work, but as he began to experience commercial success, he decided to use his platform to help the next generation of creatives. When the program's overseer retired, the program came to an end, making Marchese one of the final recipients of this generosity.     Synopsis: It's 1976, and popular college co-ed Elizabeth (Caroline Renee) meets an unusual boy, Edward (William Champion), who knows what she needs. But who is Edward really, and what secrets is he hiding? It's a love story, but a Stephen King love story, so things aren't always what they seem! Elizabeth doesn't know what she wants, but Edward knows what she needs.    Check out the trailer HERE “I Know What You Need” will have its Comic-Con debut at their film festival section on Friday, July 26 at 1:45 PM in Grand Ballroom 6 at the San Diego Marriott Marquis.  In addition, it will be added to ArrowPlayer, the streaming home to cult cinema, on Friday, July 12.  Marchese is additionally the host on three popular podcasts, Horror Movie Survival Guide, JodoWOWsky and The Loser's Club. She also co-hosts Horror X, a video show collaboration between The George A. Romero Foundation and Horror Movie Survival Guide, celebrating women in horror.

I had the opportunity to go LIVE on the RED CARPET at Tribeca for three movies. The first was interview the Duplass family for their film "Oh, Christmas Tree." This 11 minute short film was shot in their cabin in upstate NY. It truly was a family affair, written by Mark Duplass to star in with his daughter Ora Duplass, and directed by Katie Aselton, Mark's wife and Ora's mom. I asked them a couple of questions about shooting this short film and working together. It was Ora's first time in a film, so I asked her about her preparation for this role and whether it felt performative to ask with her Dad. I also asked about advice for filmmakers. I truly found this particular short very inspiring. They shot this as a family, with only one extra person to record sound. I was able to tie in a fun question at the end! Synopsis: It's been a bit of a year for 16 year-old Claire and her father Ben. All they really want to do is put it behind them. But Christmas is here and their silly holiday traditions are staring them dead in the face, practically taunting these two to give them a try after all they've been through. This short film by the Duplass family is as much an examination of mental health as it is an attempt to explore the emotional minefield of ever-shifting family dynamics. Mark Duplass - Mark is a filmmaker, actor, writer and musician. His credits include Bombshell, Safety Not Guaranteed, Tammy, The Mindy Project, and Charlie "Chip" Black on The Morning Show. Wikipedia IMDb Katie Aselton - Katie is an actress, director and filmmaker. Her acting credits include Bombshell, The Morning Show, Old Dads, Veep, Book Club, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. The problem is that these topics are WAY too broad and WAY too deep and WAY too beyond my knowledge level. However, there are many statements of Chazal which seem to presuppose that the average Jew WILL be able to frame the day to day events in their lives in the framework of the Torah's metaphysics. What, exactly, do Chazal expect us to do? Surely they don't expect everyone to ONLY apply these perspectives based on a full working knowledge of such lofty matters. That is the dilemma which led to this shiur. Instead of a comprehensive treatment, we will focus on a single statement of Chazal about what to think when you stub (or scrape) your toe. The Boys Season 3 Episode 1 Payback Synopsis Head Writer and Developed by - Eric Kripke (writer/screenplay) Based on the comic series from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson Executive Producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Episode written by: Craig Rosenberg Episode directed by: Philip Sgriccia Spoiler filled Synopsis: It's been a quiet year since Homelander was subdued after his girlfriend Stormfront was revealed as a nazi and burned up by Billy Butcher's superpowered step son Ryan. But Stormfront is still gripping to life and other things as Homelander's frustration with events is growing as he is continuously forced to tell the world he's just a normal man who fell for the wrong woman. When he takes his frustration out on former fastest supe alive A-Train, Queen Meave has reached the end of her patience. She brings in Billy Butcher to find the body of Soldier Boy, the long thought dead leader of the former Supe group "Payback". If they can find the cause of his death maybe they can find the weapon that can finally kill Homelander. Meave also has another weapon for Billy "Compound V24", a 24 hour boost of Supe powers that might level the playing field. Billy Butcher is also working through his frustration, with the death of his wife Becca, Billy now works for the Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs. It has been using the Boys to take down rule breaking Supes, including diminutive coke fiend Termite. But created by government representative Victoria Neuman and Hughie Campbell, it just doesn't have the same level of violence towards Supes that his old life had. Plus Hughie is now Billy Butcher's boss to add salt to the wounds. When Termite rips his boyfriend apart from the inside out, The Boys think they have him but Neuman has made a deal with Vought industries to keep the supe on the street in exchange for some lower level thugs. As Hughie begins to suspect his partner Neuman, he stumbles across an encounter between her and a childhood friend that ends with Hughie's new wonderful life, at the Bureau and with Starlight, exploding in a pile of guts and blood. What a lovely day it is as we jumpstart a brand-new mega-series. Back in 1979, George Miller essentially invented the modern action movie with the original Mad Max. Now it's time for us to enter the Wasteland. On this episode, Jackson Smith of Nightfall Entertainment joins the show as we talk about how Mad Max's vision of the post-apocalypse changed everything. Plus, we'll spend a few minutes on The Matrix Resurrections! SYNOPSIS It's a not-too-distant dystopian future, when man's most precious resource -- oil -- has been depleted and the world plunged into war, famine and financial chaos. The last vestiges of the law in Australia attempt to restrain a vicious biker gang led by the nefarious Toecutter (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Max (Mel Gibson), an officer with the Main Force Patrol, launches a personal vendetta against the gang when his wife (Joanne Samuel) and son are hunted down and murdered, leaving him with nothing but the instincts for survival and retribution. Franchise Detours partly kicked off with a Chucky-centric mini-series because of how the horror franchise continually mutates over time. And with this episode, we bid farewell to the first permutation of the killer doll's wild exploits. It's time for one last chapter of the Chucky and Andy story as we discuss 1991's Child's Play 3. In the third episode of our Child's Play/Chucky mega-series, Brandon Stanwyck of Fearsome Queer breaks down Child's Play 3, often considered the black sheep of the franchise. We'll discuss why some fans discount this installment, the film's notable steps toward queer themes, and the breadcrumbs series writer Don Mancini sets up for the future. Listen in as we close the book on the Child's Play trilogy. And prepare to meet Chucky's bride in our very next episode. Then be sure to check out Brandon's ranking of every single kill in the franchise over on FearsomeQueer.net. SYNOPSIS It's been years since Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) was apparently destroyed in a fire at a doll factory. Now Chucky's manufacturer is remaking the same line of toys with the old, still haunted materials. This resurrects Chucky, who goes after Andy (Justin Whalin), his former owner, who now attends military school. Chucky slashes his way through a string of grotesque murders as Andy tries to stop the homicidal doll and the spirit within it. Sometimes we even cut down and destroy what we believe to be weeds only to find out later it is actually a healthy blueberry bush! Because we do not have the ability to judge one another, Jesus calls us to tend more to the garden of our own hearts—always a mixture of weeds and plants. Through regular repentance and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Christ can help to make sure that we ourselves do not become weeds in the Kingdom of God. Dig In Further:Have you ever completely misjudged a healthy plant for weeds and destroyed it?Have you ever completely misjudged someone’s character and consequently spoken mistakenly about them? Hurt them in some other way?How often do you take time to repent in your life? To take an inventory of the “weeds” in your heart and ask God that he forgive them and pull them away and destroy them? How often do you pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance? For a clear understanding of yourself? For clear vision of both the fruits and the weeds in your hearts?Consider making Repentance and praying to the Holy Spirit a daily part of your life of faith.

Two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple discovers a wealth of unearthed archival sources and receives unprecedented access, engaging in intimate conversations with many of the soldiers closest to the story, some for the first time, as well as President Jimmy Carter, Vice President Walter Mondale and TV newsman Ted Koppel.Evocative new animation brings audiences closer than anyone has ever gotten to being on the inside for this history-making operation. This is the thrilling story of a group of Americans working together to overcome the most difficult problem of their lives. Among those Americans is President Jimmy Carter, readying to face a re-election challenge when self-described student revolutionaries suddenly take power in Iran. Anti-American students take the U.S. embassy in Tehran by force and hold hostage fifty-two American diplomats and citizens.Using new archival sources and unprecedented access to key players on both sides, master documentarian Barbara Kopple reveals the true story behind one of the most daring rescues in modern US history: a secret mission to free hostages captured during the 1979 Iranian revolution. At a moment when tensions once again rise between the governments of Iran and the U.S., old wounds remain painfully current for many on each side who detail their recollections in Desert One -- but talk of hope also emerges, that the lessons of the past might finally guide us to a better future.About the Director:Barbara Kopple is a two-time Academy Award® winning filmmaker. In the third installment of our retrospective on the Star Wars saga,  Jackson Smith of Screen Fever helps out close out our look back at the prequel trilogy with an epic-length conversation about Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith. After two films filled with cringe-inducing moments and misguided creative decisions, George Lucas finally explores the immediate events that transformed Anakin Skywalker from Hayden Christensen into the Dark Lord of the Sith everyone loves to hate. We'll delve into how Revenge of the Sith has been unfairly affected by the reputations of the two preceding films, why Anakin's turn to the Dark Side is much more nuanced than it seems and what makes Revenge of the Sith easily the most underrated entry in the entire Star Wars saga. Every month for the rest of 2019, we'll be discussing another episode of the Star Wars saga, building up to the release of Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker in December. Check back next month as Kim Stock Foster joins us to talk Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. SYNOPSIS It has been three years since the Clone Wars began. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) rescue Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) from General Grievous, the commander of the droid armies, but Grievous escapes. Suspicions are raised within the Jedi Council concerning Chancellor Palpatine, with whom Anakin has formed a bond. Asked to spy on the chancellor, and full of bitterness toward the Jedi Council, Anakin embraces the Dark Side. Emmanuel Baptist Church Podcast

July 8, 2018 Passportkids Reporting All Caught Up 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 Synopsis: It is easy to get “All Caught Up” in many different things in life. Many of those things are just down right fun and remain that way for varying lengths of time. Short term things often are called FADS. We fill closets and storage buildings with the stuff that once captured our attention. The stuff that is just waiting for a second go-round. Other things happen to us in life that holds our attention for longer periods of time. I am referring to things that are not defined by “stuff” as much as relationships. And finally, there are experiences that we have in life that catch us and capture our attention so that we are never the same afterwards. There is little question in my mind that the Apostle Paul was “All Caught Up” in Jesus Christ. Paul had many experiences of the resurrected Lord but he was never the same after the first one. In this passage (2 Corinthians 12:1) Paul refers to being “caught up into the third heaven.” Not everybody gets to go there. Not everybody gets to have that experience, but everybody can experience the life changing presence of Jesus Christ through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. A line from a Kirk Talley’s song simply says “He is here, you can touch Him. You will never be the same.” (He Is Here, © 2011 Kirk Talley Music) Text (NIV): 2 Corinthians 12:1-10; Scripture Reading: Psalm 48:1, NIV

With the recent release of the DCEU’s brand-new JUSTICE LEAGUE film, we’ve decided to celebrate Thanksgiving week with a look back at the first attempt by the WB to fit multiple superheroes into one film, 2016’s BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (THE ULTIMATE EDITION). On its initial release, BVSDOJ was pretty solidly dismissed by critics and word of mouth alike. However, upon its release on Blu-Ray, The Extended Edition was released, giving us what many consider a more “complete” film and one worthy of a second look. So join us as we review and dissect the movie as it was meant to be seen and attempt to determine is The Ultimate Edition worthy of thanks by way of Movie Redemption, or is it still just a turkey of a film (see what we did there)? SYNOPSIS: It's been nearly two years since Superman's (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel. April 2, 2017    All Dried Out and Ready for Life Ezekiel 37:3   Synopsis: It’s a contradiction.  Things that are all dried out are not ready for life…right?  Life on this planet is based on water and yet all good gardeners know the seed they buy to plant are all dried out and ready for life.  All they need is to be planted, watered and get some good sun and a new plant will emerge from the old.       Ezekiel’s prophecy starts with out with a valley full of dried out bones.  They looked hopeless!  And then there is the question, “can these bones come back to life?”  Ezekiel knew that the only one to answer that quest was the Lord God (Ezekiel 37:1-14).  This is a resurrection promise and story.  New life was not to be found in the dried bones but in the life of the Spirit.  I believe that this story has much more to tell us if we will speak to the “wind” the Spirit of the Life-giving God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.       Let’s follow this analogy and apply it to the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11:17-44).  Jesus spoke to the “wind” and called forth Lazarus.  What a story!  What an image!  Surely, those who saw Jesus put to death on the cross felt the pain of the question, “can he live again?”  But that was Friday.  Sunday brought a totally different image.        Maybe you feel like you are “all dried out,” but that doesn’t mean you are hopeless.  It just means you need the life of the Spirit to bring new life in you so that you will be “ready for life.”   Text (CEV): Ezekiel 37:1-14; John 11:17-44

Louis, John and Face2Face host David Peck talk about   Synopsis It’s an absurd truth about the Church of Scientology that one of the world’s most secretive organizations will step angrily out into public view when provoked. This reactiveness is at the core of My Scientology Movie, the cheeky, acclaimed “reverse-investigative” documentary starring British broadcaster/journalist Louis Theroux and directed by John Dower. With the world awash in “exposes” of the neo-religion created by the late science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard – and total denials by the Church itself – My Scientology Movie uses reverse psychology to create a picture of the organization inadvertently painted by its own followers. It starts with a not-unexpected refusal by the Church to cooperate with a documentary. It continues from there with a very public casting exercise by the filmmakers and former Scientology Marty Rathbun, for actors to play real-life figures like church leader David Miscavige and the church’s most famous follower Tom Cruise. They then let gossip and paranoia do the rest, attracting the attention of Scientology’s lawyers, threats from church officials, harassment from “squirrel-busters” meeting them at random locations (at least one such incident went viral online) and phony “documentary crews” that followed Theroux, Dower and Rathbun around. The result is a documentary that doubles down on the story of Scientology. It provides details of its dark side – including the infamous California “Gold Base” facility for wayward Church officials (visited in the movie) and a punishment area called The Hole. And it renders those revelations more plausible by the actual strange and aberrant behavior of followers. “They behaved in ways that were so clearly pathological,” Theroux says of the counter-tactics he recorded. “You would expect them to understand that other people would see this behavior and conclude that this is a religion of lunatics.” “This has always been a Holy Grail project to me,” he says. “I’m attracted to stories of people doing profoundly unusual things for explainable human reasons. Normally, I am invited into the worlds I visit. I had to make the decision to make this one anyway, and to lure them out. “At the heart of it, this is a story about religious fundamentalism, which is a phenomenon that is front and center in our time.” Biography Louis Theroux is a British-American documentary filmmaker, and broadcaster. He is best known for his documentary series, including Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends, When Louis Met..., and his BBC Two specials. His career started in journalism and bears influences of notable writers in his family, such as his father Paul Theroux and brother Marcel. He works with the BBC producing his documentaries and television series. He has received two British Academy Television Awards and a Royal Television Society Television Award for his work. John Dower is one of the Britain's leading documentary directors. His feature Thriller in Manila was in competition at Sundance, BAFTA and EMMY nominated, and won a Grierson and a Peabody Award. Bradley Wiggins – A Year In Yellow was also BAFTA nominated in the best director category. As well as his sporting films he has a keen eye for comedy. His music documentary Live Forever was described by The Guardian as, “Sublime … finds that the truth is stranger and funnier than the myths” and his latest theatrical feature My Scientology Movie praised by The Telegraph as “a giddy, Pythonesque delight”, with Variety calling it “riotously funny”.    ----------   For more information about my podcasting, writing and public speaking please visit my site here.   With thanks to producer Josh Snethlage and Mixed Media Sound.
