I recently joined up with three other women to caravan from Portland, Oregon to Quartzsite, Arizona. I know a lot of women are interested in how to find others to caravan with, so I wanted to share my experience and what I learned from the driving 1200 miles with a group of other women RVers. My guest this week is Val Nelson, a career and business coach who works with women who want to start their own businesses. Val and I talk about why coaching can be a great business for women who live on the road and why RVers are especially suited for entrepreneurship. Key Take-Aways: Val is a business and career coach. But that's had several iterations along the way. She coached on starting an online business, marketing consulting and other iterations before she honed in on coaching introverted and highly sensitive women who want to run their own businesses. So, you can start where you are and it doesn't mean that's where you will end up. If you're thinking of starting a business, make sure it's something you really enjoy, that you get excited about. Because if you're not, you won't be successful at it. Being a coach can be a great business to start to sustain you while you travel. There are all different kinds of coaches. Again, find your passion. If you're an RVer you have the entrepreneurial spirit. There's a lot of worries that people have around starting their own business, but just like living an RV lifestyle, there are those who have gone before you who can help you figure it out. This week on the podcast, I interview Merissa Peterson who is the onsite event coordinator for A Roam of Our Own, a women-only vanlife gathering March 16-19, 2023 in Palm Springs, California. Take Aways: 1. A roam of our Own—March 16-19, 2023 just outside of Palm Springs, CA. Cost is about $100 per person. 2. They are still looking for people to lead events or a craft and discounts are available for workshop presenters. Reach out to josiah@thejournaloflosttime.com if you're interested. 3. Solo Women like to do it all. We are nurturing by nature and we extend ourselves in so many directions but here's the thing, we don't have to do it all at one time. So dare I ask, what season of life are you in? A season of life creates an energetic direction for women to funnel their energy to feel whole in all that she does in that season. It allows a gentle container around time and energy so that the feeling of shame and guilt for "not doing it all" can dissipate, inviting more joy in ease into your life. We talk all about how to know what season you're in, how to know when your season is shifting and how to create boundaries around your time to respect yourself whichever season you choose. We also chat about . . . How to be honest with yourself How to choose a season that aligns with your highest vision for yourself The beauty of your own personal seasons How to stop comparing yourself to other women and where they are at Connect with Erin Instagram The Feel at Home Facebook Community

Campfire Convos are shorts where Liz and Kelsey candidly talk about a topic loosely related to women and the outdoor world. Whether it be talking about the subject of being a woman in the backcountry, a recent book we read, or something fun–like our favorite pieces of gear and why, we try to keep these episodes around 15-20 minutes. These shorts will come out every other Thursday as a buffer between interview episodes with guests, giving you time to catch up on the longer episodes and us time to create more fantastic content! This Campfire Convo focuses on Situational Awareness relating to outdoors women’s safety. Oftentimes, the first question women get asked when going alone on an adventure is, “Are you sure you’re safe to go alone?” It is an unfortunate reality that outdoors women do have to keep some extra tricks up their sleeves to stay safe. In our opinion, one of the best mental tools to implement when alone outdoors is understanding situational awareness and trusting your gut. Join the conversation as we break down women's common fears and our tips on how to handle some situations or practice risk aversion. Do you have any experiences or tips to add?Let us know! In a less-enlightened time, women were barely tolerated by the rock’n’roll establishment…they could sing, shake a tambourine and look pretty…but that’s about it…in retrospect, the sexism and misogyny was unbelievable…but back in the day, it was business as usual… Some strong women who broke through…Joan Baez, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Carole King, Janis Joplin…but they were the exceptions… Sexism continued through the early- and mid-seventies…the prevailing “wisdom” was that women just couldn’t rock…it was a biological impossibility, apparently… But then along came punk rock and a sense of egalitarism…the central tennet of being a punk was that anyone with anything to say should be allowed to say it, regardless of musical ability, class, race, religion—or sex… The punk rock of the 70s opened musical doors for women more than any other era in musical history…this doesn’t mean that sexism and misogyny and abuse was over…but it did mean way more strong, powerful female musicians… Slow, steady progress was made in through the 80s…and yes, there were setbacks…but by the time we got into the next decade, the music world was flooded with women who, in many ways, set the agenda for all rock music… This is part 2 of our series on the 1990s…

That may be a bit high, but not by much, because it's been our experience that solo women travelers do indeed make up a huge segment of the RVing community. Plus your questions, RV news and Tips and much more. [spp-player] Show Notes for Episode #179 Feb. 14 2018 of Roadtreking - The RV Podcast: WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK [spp-timestamp time="2:25"] This episode is coming to you from Manatee Springs State Park in Chiefland, Florida, near the famed Suwanee River. The Suwannee River is a federally designated wild river. Mike and Jennifer recording this episode from the picnic table at their camping site at We were at the Jacksonville RV show over the weekend. A shoutout to Ron and Sharri Chafin who were the first to meet us. They brought a very nice birthday gift for Jennifer! We are camping on the Suwanee River, which is the only major waterway in the southeastern United States that is still unspoiled. The Suwanee flows from the Okefenokee Swamp in southern Georgia to the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. It winds for almost 266 miles through swamps, high limestone banks, hammocks of hardwood, and salt marshes. It also has fifty-five springs along the way. But besides that, it's particularly famous because of Stephen Foster. He became America's first professional songwriter in the 1800s. He wrote more than 200 songs with tunes and lyrics that captured the heart and spirit of the nation. While writing “Old Folks at Home,” Foster had difficulty finding the right words to complete a verse joining his image of a beautiful river and longings for family and home. According to legend, his brother suggested the Suwannee River after consulting a world atlas. The words fit, and “Way down upon the Suwannee River” was on its way to making the Suwannee River famous around the world. Foster never visited Florida and he never saw the Suwannee River. Nevertheless, since 1935, it has also been Florida's state song. In the 1950s, land was acquired on the Suwannee River at White Springs. The land was developed into the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. Shortly thereafter, the Florida Folk Festival was established to highlight the state's cultural history and traditions.
