This week, while Sarah's living it up in New York City, Adell is kicking off May by celebrating some serious bad seeds. In honor of the month that honors mothers, we're turning the spotlight on five women who were anything but traditional: the tormented Anneliese Michel, the mischievous Fox Sisters, the accused of the Salem Witch Trials, the rebel spirit Lilith, and Scotland's last witch, Helen Duncan. From possession to séances to legends that refused to die, these bad mama jamas shook history — and we're here for every haunted minute of it.

Welcome back, y'all! The Wild Women are back and today we are talking fashion and bad messages from movies!First, Suzanne and Nikole do a horrible job at describing outfits from this year's SAG awards, but do a phenomenal job at giving their opinions. Next, the women dive into how absolutely messed up movies directed at girls were during the 80s to early 2000s. Y'all! Why was there always some sort of ILLEGAL (or almost illegal) age gap? Why was the girl (because these characters were seniors in high school at the oldest) always told to change everything about herself to fit in? Why did we eat this stuff up with a spoon? We want to hear about YOUR problematic movie experiences. Until next time, Stay wild and Stay Witchy!
Well Well Well...it appears as though the chickens have not only come home to roost, but they've gone to their individual homes to roost and will no longer be visiting each other's coops. Story Prescription: A story for Hallowe'en, All Hallow's Eve, when the souls of those past are remembered. An ethereally spooky story from Scotland, about two sisters who love the same man. If you are not local to Scotland, but would like to join me online, then Wild Women, a six months journey into the wild feminine through stories starts on the 8th November.

Wild Women: Seekers, Protagonists and Goddesses in Sacred Indian Poetry [Penguin India, 2024], edited by poet and seeker Arundhathi Subramaniam, is a new anthology of compelling women mystics in Indian literature. These poems are the cries of women who refused, quietly, and sometimes not so quietly, to be bullied into submission. Women who surrendered not to the authority of the world, but to the authority of the spirit. Women whose voices have far too often been sanitized by the grand narratives of religion and sidelined by rationalist versions of history. The names of Mirabai, Akka Mahadevi, and Andal, are known to many. But there are innumerable others. And little is known of the urgency of their words, of their feral sensuality, of their relentless questioning of the custodians of gender and faith. It is time to re-fang them, to tune into their brazenness and heartbreaking longing. Not just for their sake, but for ours. In this episode of BIC Talks, Author Arundhathi Subramaniam is in conversation with Poet & Translator, Mani Rao, with readings of translations by Mani Rao, Vanamala Viswanatha and Ahalya Ballal. This is an excerpt from a conversation that took place in the BIC premises in June 2024. Subscribe to the BIC Talks Podcast on your favorite podcast app! When was the last time you watched a RomCom? If you are anything like Suzanne and Nikole, you grew up on a steady stream of romantic comedies. Whether it was the girl didn't realize she was pretty until she had a makeover, subtle references to SA, stalker tendencies framed as romantic, blatant racism, significant misogyny, or a whole host of other issues – RomComs did not age well. On today's episode, the Wild Women dive into destroying some of their adolescence by acknowledging how creepy and fucked many of the tropes used in almost all RomComs really were and how fast they would get people cancelled. Grab your favorite flavor of Haterade, but we are about to destroy your feelings about movies you probably still love.
Have you met the Wild Women? Hopefully regardless of how old you are, you know her and you know her well. Perhaps you caught a faint whiff of her on a steamy hot Summer night or when a societal or cultural issue ignited your inner fire to take action on something that was important to you. Yet far too many women are not familiar with her. They either consciously or unconsciously feel the cultural constraints and metaphorical leash that has tried to tame and domesticate her in an attempt to control and limit her powerful energy and abilities. Yet we need her...desperately. The primal, instinctual nature that exists in all women is known as the Wild Woman archetype and it is a critical asset in helping us navigate wisely through our lives. So if you find yourself feeling overly 'civilized' or 'domesticated', out of touch with your instinctual inner compass and "fire in the belly" - basically feeling lame and far too tame - this episode is for you! My guest today is Dr. Stacey Shelby who is an author, speaker, educator, and depth psychotherapist. She is certified clinical dream tender holds a masters and Ph.D. in Depth Psychology with a specialization in Jungian and Archetypal Studies. In this episode we tap into Dr. Shelby's understanding and experience with the Wild Woman Archetype and what it means for all women. My guest today is Vanessa Berlowitz, executive producer and founder of Wildstar Films, and the docuseries QUEENS currently airing on NAT GEO and DISNEY + where tales of female animals ruling their realms parallel the strides made by women behind the camera. Vanessa shares her experiences from the four-year filming odyssey, revealing the stark realities of climate change and the emotional sagas of the matriarchs in the animal Kingdom. The episode is a testament to the industry's evolving landscape, where luminaries such as cinematographers Justine Evans and Sophie Darlington not only lead but also mentor the emerging generation of diverse female talent behind the lens.Where storytelling meets conservation, this episode is a chorus of voices advocating for the unsung heroines of the wild. It's a celebration of the indomitable spirit of women like Tanya Escobar and the Lionesses patrol group in Kenya, whose steadfast efforts in wildlife protection are brought to the fore. Adding to the symphony, the esteemed Angela Bassett lends her voice and vision to "Queens," championing the essence of diversity and female strength. We share invaluable insights for aspirant filmmakers on weaving genuine wildlife experiences into compelling narratives and urge listeners to partake in the global conservation dialogue through informed choices. In this episode, Shana talks to Krantinaari, a hip-hop artist, activist and founding member of India's first female hip-hop collective, Wild Wild Women. She talks about finding her own language of feminism, being a female rapper in an industry dominated by men and how Wild Wild Women came together to create music that they and other women can relate to. Follow @krantinaari and @wildwildwomen on Instagram Krantinaari raps acapella from her self-titled single ‘Krantinaari' in this episode. Here is a translation of the lyrics: In the traditional rule of the father and son The woman is hiding her pain, she's suppressed her scream The thorns on the way that pricked her Those became the sign of progress when she got educated But now that we see she's not even safe in the house of the rich In such situations she's holding on strong Even when their mindset is old, rusty and useless Come on, broaden your mind and evolve Dangerous situations occur with 3 out of 5, by their own relatives Stuck within four walls, she sacrifices her happiness She is courageous and not your slave She will smile forgetting all her pain How long will you search for God with your eyes closed If you've forgotten your morals, you're going to be punished She won't just work hard from 9 to 5, day and night With her heart and calm mind The revolutionary woman is here to bring justice The revolutionary woman is nature's blessing Revolutionary Woman! I took summer off running my business and guess what, my business didn't break. In fact I had a huge money month whilst doing the minimum because of the way I've set up my business to operate seasonally, cyclically, and without me being ON all the time. In business taking time off feels scary in case we drop the ball and fall behind. Yet I believe that taking a whole season off growing my business is helping me leap forward faster and stronger in my business than if I'd soldiered on. I took the entire summer away from working on on my business, and found that by stepping out, I could gladly spend my energy with my family where its needed, and trust that my business won't collapse in the meantime. I've set up structures to allow my income to keep flowing, clients to be served and my own health prioritised so I don't need to be on all the time. This allowed me the chance to re-evaluate the work I am doing, ensure its deeply aligned and of the highest service, so I can work smarter this year and grow sustainably - instead of grinding myself into burn out. This is cyclical business.Tune in as I share how my intention this year to go bold not hard has looked in quarter 1 of 2024 so far:Why I took the summer off, How a cyclical and seasonal approach to business has served me to do this, Why we need to vary strategy, mindset and business tasks by menstrual cycle season, and season of life, How the same approach doesn't keep serving as you grow if you're multipassionate, and as you and your clients evolve. The foundational tasks I have been focused on this season to help me get the right base established, before diving into creation / launch / growth season. The story, set in the Adirondacks, depicts emotional insights and decades-spanning intrigue. Welcome Back, Witches!! The Wild Women are back today with a pop culture breakdown. Do you think that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie being snubbed for Oscar nominations was proving the point of Barbie? Is anyone else pissed off that all of the controversy has overshadowed America Ferrara's nomination? Is it all just Patriarchy?!?!? Then, Nikole fills Suzanne in on the beef between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion. Do the Wild Women land on the same side or are they friends divided on this issue? Also, how do they feel about excessive use of swearing and slurs in music over all? Does it take you out of the moment? We love you all! Stay Wild and Stay Witchy!
