His family has served Boston and the metro Boston area continuously since 1945. His 24 years in the fire service was preceded by working in EMS as an EMT and then a paramedic for a total of 5 years. He was initially hired by Hingham FD in 1998 and then eventually hired by Cambridge in 2004 and assigned to the new Squad company. He was transferred to Rescue 1 in 2010 where he stayed until he was promoted in 2020. He made his way back to The Rescue as the Lt of group 2 in 2022. Listen in as Lt. Morrison goes through his career which includes many interesting opportunities and "firsts" within his departments. Paul is also an instructor for the Mass Fire Academy in technical rescue and recruit, he is a tech rescue instructor for UASI (urban area security initiative), as well as an instructor for the Barnstable county fire and rescue training academy where he developed doctrine for their forcible entry program. Paul shares with us how he got on this path of training and instructing through his career. We also talk through the roles and responsibilities od being assigned to a heavy rescue. The day to day work, and the mindset that goes with operating that company. Finally, we give a shoutout to Allentown, Pa for their trench rescue. The rescue happened back in January of this year. What is HoganLax HoganLax provides developmental opportunities for lacrosse players and coaches through hosting and organizing tournaments, club teams, and team training. HoganLax was created in 2002 when Matt Hogan, CEO & Founder, was the head lacrosse coach at the University of Pennsylvania. The first tournament was HERO held at the Haverford School, outside of Philadelphia. When Matt Hogan moved back to the Annapolis area in 2003, HoganLax hosted 8 teams in the inaugural year for Summer Exposure. Summer Exposure now is host to 250+ teams each year on Father's Day weekend. In the following years, Hogan's Hershey (225 teams), Bay Bridge Brawl (120 teams), Fall Brawl (90-100 teams), Revolution (40 teams), and most recently, Shore Wars and Spring Thaw have been great additions as HoganLax premier events. HoganLax partnered with the Chesapeake Bayhawks to provide a unique experience with the invite-only tournament of Naptown National Challenge. Navy-Marine Corps Stadium plays host to the championship games, which are broadcasted on live television. HoganLax's club lacrosse organization is the Annapolis Hawks, which was initiated in 2004 with 2 teams. Starting with only U13 and U15 teams, the club slowly grew to over 11 teams ranging from 3rd to 11th graders. The Hawks recently partnered with a club in Richmond, now the Richmond Hawks, to assist with their growth and development as players and coaches. Team Training takes place in Orlando, Florida and allows entire teams to escape to sunny and warm Florida over spring break. HoganLax provides all logistics once you land in Orlando. Since 2015, Canada had deployments of ground troops in Ukraine, working to reform the country's military after the invasion of Crimea. In light of Russia's most recent invasion of Ukraine, Sarah Lawrynuik wanted to take a look back at what the Canadian Armed Forces did there and how the training it provided has affected the country's ability to hold off Russian advancements. It's the long view on a story that is still developing and a war everyone hoped could be avoided.
