1.28 Welcome RPG Ramblings with Jeff Jones. This a weekly show exploring the various details of the TableTop RPG hobby through discussions with interesting people. This week Tim Shorts joins me to talk about that grand TSR module from the eighties. The Dwellers of the Forbidden City. I don't know WHY the city is forbidden. In fact, I don't even know that it is forbidden. But what I do know is that it contains some wonderful elements that shine like bullywugs on a moonlit night. The not so secret “secret” is that Tim and I are working on a re-imagining of this module. Not so much of a re-do as taking the themes presented in the module and do them in a different way. While this project comes up in discussion, the primary focus is finding significant elements and talk about utilizing those principles in games we run or design. Also, as a side note. I will be traveling for work next week so there likely will not be a podcast the following week. Actually, the difficulty of getting guests in a timely manner may cause me to consider moving this podcast to a fortnightly schedule. If there are gaps between show releases, you now know why. Enough of the pre-show blather, it is time to get rambling. 1.21 Welcome RPG Ramblings with Jeff Jones. This a weekly show exploring the various details of the TableTop RPG hobby through discussions with interesting people. This week Tim Shorts joins me to talk about his upcoming Crawlers of Scorn city campaign. We discuss his methods and ideas for setting up the city and populating it with locations and NPCs. 1.15 Welcome RPG Ramblings with Jeff Jones. This a weekly show exploring the various details of the TableTop RPG hobby through discussions with interesting people. This week Tim Shorts, of Gothridge Manor, joins me to discuss a wonderful article written by Andrew Peregrine for a Modiphius blog. The article is entitled DUNE #10 - Walking Without Rhythm and was intended to explain to GM how there is so much going on in Arrakis that there is no need for planet hopping. After reading the six points I realized that these points are good for any campaign a GM wants run. Furthermore, I think if a campaign feels stale, it is likely that adding these elements may be all you need to inspire the players and yourself. High on tight people….we cover a lot of ground. 1.12 Welcome RPG Ramblings with Jeff Jones. This a weekly show exploring the various details of the TableTop RPG hobby through discussions with interesting people. Tim Shorts of Gothridge Manor joins me in a discussion about our experiences as project creators for ZineQuest 3. This is a behind-the-scenes look at what it is like going through the valley of fire and we share the details and our thoughts. For talking points, I used Tim's post “Successfully Funded! Some Stats and Insights” from his blog post on Gothridgemanor.blogspot.com https://gothridgemanor.blogspot.com/2021/02/successfully-funded-some-stats-and.html Before the interview, I knew we would be talking a lot of details and that might prove to be too much for many listeners. The plan is that Tim and I would talk for an hour and the I would have a second, non-technical interview to provide lighter content to dilute it. As we talked, it became obvious that I consistently underestimate how long I can discuss any topic with people like Tim. Well, brothers and sisters…..this is two hour discussion. No apologies. 100% pure deep dive. Dear listeners, don't worry, this isn't all details. We chat about products that caught our interest and our personal criteria for what we bought as we all as various other topics. Episode 2 Welcome RPG Ramblings, a weekly show exploring various details of the TableTop RPG hobby through discussions with interesting people. For this episode, Tim Shorts and Ben Laurance are back each providing additional insight to their success at producing RPG Content. In the first segment, Ben discusses the creation of his Zine Through Ultan's Door; a trippy, extra-dimensional plane of existence intended for characters to serendipitously tumble into. Going back into Ben's early gaming experiences, it becomes clear that Through Ultan's Door was inevitable. For $5 you can pick this zine up at Drivethrurpg.com or his store front at Through Ultan's Door dot bigcartel.com. Tim Shorts gives us a deep dive into running a successful Kickstarter for Hunters of Death and what it takes to fulfill a 600 orders. Hunters of Death is $5 at Drivethrurpg.com. Both Ben and Tim are prolific writers and their blogs are well worth reading. Links to those blogs, as well as contact information is found in the show notes. It is time to get rambling. This episode features two separate interviews with Tim Shorts and Ben Laurance. Tim Shorts is a long time fixture to the OSR community. While the name Tim Shorts may not ring a bell, his moniker, Gothridge Manor, should, as it is the nomen for which he is best known . In this episode we discuss the beginnings and evolution into writing and producing RPG content. We also discuss the starting of the RPG Zine group on Facebook, which is a fast growing and incredibly community. The Deep Dive portion is with Ben Laurance. This was a blast! I was finally able to do a joint interview with Tim Shorts of Gothridge Manor, and Rob Conley from Bat in the Attic. They are good friends who have been gaming together since they were kids in the 80's. Lots of great old stories from two of the most creative guys in the OSR. Today's episode is an off-the-cuff round-up of just some of the call-ins I have received following the release of my interview with Daniel Jones on Otherworld Immersion. The response has been overwhelming and I am just presenting part of the larger picture. Tim Shorts is responsible for this one: he laid down a challenge to the Anchorites to revisit an episode from December 2018 and allow it to inspire a retrospective... so, here's mine. I've gone back and listened to Ep103, "On Rediscovery & Roots" from Season 1. This episode revisits the recipe for an Open Table game that I talked about last year, updates you on the journey I've been on throughout the year, and ends with a pledge to re-open my gaming tables once again. Along the way, there's call-ins from fellow podcasters seeded in to add some further thought-provocation. Here's hoping you enjoy the show! Another interview with Minion Delta, this time getting her view on caves and character backgrounds. As she was trapped in the car as we ran an errand, you can tell how much she just loves these snap, surprise podcast interviews. Game updates, triple mega campaign convergence, Running one shots, my new pc for Tim Shorts’ game, messages I left for for Spikepit, and a bit about James Smith. Here’s the message I just sent my players. “So as most of you know I'm running three different campaigns, all set in my version of the forgotten realms, and all following a similar track. Basically, though you may be in different games, the world you are in is the same. What's going on is the same. Yeah, there are inconsistencies, like two groups did the same thing, but whatever. Anyhow, I have a massively epic final battle set for the end of all the campaigns. Whichever group gets there first triggers the event, which will effect all groups. Meaning, all groups will have to get into the final fight, no matter where they are in the timeline. No one group is that far ahead of the others in terms of level, so you'll likely be about the same for the final fight. From here on out I'm going to be doing different things with each group As much as I can, so there are less time space continuum type of overlaps. (Like two different adventure groups saved Phandalin for example). The reason I'm saying all this is because once one group triggers the event, or it's just time for it to happen in their timeline, it's gonna happen in the timeline of all three groups. Once I see this coming up I'm gonna rent a bigass room somewhere and we are going to get all three groups together on a Saturday for an 8-10 hour or more playing session. You will all play together in the final epic battle. As of now that's 16 individual players playing a total of 20 different characters. You'll have at least a months notice of the event so you can arrange for time off from work, Etc. this event is likely at least 18-24 months in the future. I just wanted to make sure you all knew what was coming. If you miss it, you'll miss the grand culmination of all you've done for the entire campaign. I won't let one player play another person's character for this grand event. You will have earned a place at the table for the final battle. Show up! Food and booze too for the grand event of course. :). “ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/joe892/support
