Healing often begins with the courage to ask questions—and the right guide to walk you through the answers. Dr. Jill Jenkins shares how pediatric oral health connects to far more than teeth, influencing everything from nursing success to sleep, speech, and even a child's overall development. With warmth and wisdom, she explains how individualized care and a collaborative approach with other practitioners can empower parents to identify tongue ties and make confident decisions. Her passion is a reminder that small interventions early on can create ripple effects of wellness for a lifetime. Key Takeaways: Understanding tongue ties and their subtle symptoms can help parents advocate for their child's health. A multidisciplinary approach—including dentists, lactation consultants, and bodywork—leads to better outcomes. Early, individualized care builds a foundation for proper oral function and overall well-being. Parents' instincts are powerful; trusting your gut can lead to answers others might overlook. Restoring oral function can positively impact sleep, feeding, and emotional connection between parent and child.   About Dr. Jill Jenkins: With almost 20 years of experience as a pediatric dentist, Dr Jill Jenkins felt like there wasn't a child she couldn't help through her pediatric dental practice, Jenkins Dentistry for Kids. That was until 2 of her long term employees had infants with tongue tie restrictions, requiring frenectomy procedures. Without the proper training and equipment, Dr Jenkins had to refer her patients to another practitioner at a vulnerable time for the families who had come to trust her. So, after extensive coursework and in-person observation with one of the most renowned tongue tie pediatric dentists in the field, Dr Richard Baxter, Dr Jenkins is thrilled to now be able to provide frenectomy services to patients through the establishment of Midwest Tongue Tie Professionals. By utilizing the state of the art Lightscalpel CO2 laser and working closely with functional providers, Dr Jenkins is confident that patients receive exceptional care before, during and post-procedure to ensure not only a precise tongue tie release, but also the movement and functionality the release is designed to achieve. Dr Jill Jenkins attended dental school and her pediatric residency at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry and Children's Mercy Hospital. After 15 years in her original partnership, Dr Jenkins pivoted to develop a practice based on her own patient and team centered philosophy to open Jenkins Dentistry for Kids with locations in Lenexa and Shawnee. She is also the owner and founder of Midwest Tongue Tie Professionals. Dr Jenkins has served organized dentistry in many volunteer roles throughout her career, most notably as President of the Fifth District Dental Society of Kansas, President of the State of Kansas Dental Association and currently as Chair of the KDA Membership committee, member of the ADA Council on Membership, and as a Delegate for the State of Kansas to the ADA. Dr Jenkins is a board certified pediatric dentist, and is involved with many professional organizations where she is a diplomate for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, fellow of the American College of Dentists and fellow of the International College of Dentists. She also received the Women Who Mean Business Award from the Kansas City Business Journal in 2017, where she continues to stay active. She has also been awarded Dentist of the Year both locally and at the state level. Dr Jenkins has been married for over 25 years and is fortunate to have 3 amazing children. www.jenkinsdentistryforkids.com www.midwesttonguetieprofessionals.com https://www.facebook.com/JenkinsDentistryKids/ https://www.instagram.com/jenkinsdentistryforkids/    Connect with Dr. Michelle and Bayleigh at: https://smallchangesbigshifts.com hello@smallchangesbigshifts.com https://www.linkedin.com/company/smallchangesbigshifts https://www.facebook.com/SmallChangesBigShifts https://www.instagram.com/smallchangesbigshiftsco   Thanks for listening! Send Jay comments via textWhat if the empty nest isn't the end of your parenting journey, but a new beginning—an opportunity to reconnect with yourself? In this enlightening episode, Bernadette Catalana, author of Daughter Lessons: Wise and Witty Reflections on Leading, Learning From, and Loving our Daughters, challenges us to reframe this pivotal life transition.Throughout the conversation, Bernadette dismantles common misconceptions that launching adult children signifies failure or loss. Instead, she celebrates it as the natural outcome of good parenting: “If you're doing it right, your children will leave your home and you'll get fired from the best job you ever had—and that's the perfect outcome.” Most profoundly, Bernadette reminds us that our children are not “our happiness projects.” Releasing expectations allows both parents and children to pursue authentic lives, leading to genuine happiness and meaningful connection. Highlights & Key Takeaways:Understanding your mother's relationships with her own mother can offer healing from “mother wounds.”Transitioning from “the sage on the stage” to “the guide on the side” in parenting encourages trust and autonomy.Children are individuals with their own paths, not reflections of parenting success or failure.Respect and trust in your adult children's judgment strengthen your relationship and their autonomy.Bernadette Catalana BioBernadette Catalana is one of seven children—six of them daughters. The information I am providing is my opinion and not necessarily that of my firm or this platform. I am only providing general educational information and not any customized investment recommendations. You should consult with your Financial Advisor, Tax Advisor, or Attorney on your specific situation. Nothing shall be construed as Financial, Tax or legal advice or recommendations. Are you a high earner who hasn't built wealth yet? Here's how to strategically invest and grow your money. In this episode of the Confident Retirement Podcast, host Kris Flammang and advisors Armando and Colin continue their HENRY series (High Earner, Not Rich Yet). They tackle the common challenge that many high-income professionals face: having the capacity to invest more but lacking knowledge about where and how to do it effectively. The team explains the three-bucket approach to organizing financial goals based on time horizons, discusses which investment vehicles are appropriate for different goals, and explores the benefits of retirement accounts, including employer-sponsored plans. Key Takeaways: → Understanding your risk tolerance is essential to developing a sound investment strategy that aligns with your financial goals and time horizon. → The "three bucket approach" categorizes your financial goals into short-term (3-5 years), intermediate (5-10 years), and long-term (10+ years) buckets, with appropriate investment vehicles for each. → For short-term goals, focus on principal-protected vehicles like high-yield savings accounts, certificates of deposit, or Treasury bills to ensure your money is available when needed. → Long-term investments (10+ years) can include growth-oriented options like ETFs, mutual funds, and individual stocks since you have time to weather market fluctuations. → Maximize employer-sponsored retirement plans like 401(k)s, especially when matching contributions are available, as they offer higher contribution limits than IRAs and potential tax advantages. In this second episode of a three-part series, Drs. Ruth Carrico and Paula Tucker explore the challenges of medical misinformation, its impact on patient care and strategies for navigating the overwhelming flow of health information in today's digital age. The discussion covers the rise of the "infodemic” how misinformation spreads and how nurse practitioners (NPs) can critically evaluate medical literature to ensure evidence-based practice. The hosts share real-world experiences from the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the difficulties of adapting to rapidly evolving guidelines while maintaining public trust. They also discuss the role of social determinants of health in the spread of misinformation and provide practical solutions for mitigating misinformation in clinical settings. Key Takeaways: Understanding the Infodemic: Definition: An overload of health-related information — both accurate and inaccurate — spread rapidly via social media, news and professional circles. Impact of COVID-19: Misinformation amplified due to evolving scientific knowledge, political influences and social media algorithms. Role of Trust: Public mistrust in health care institutions and shifting guidelines fueled skepticism. Misinformation Drivers and Consequences: Psychological Factors: Cognitive biases (confirmation bias, authority bias) make individuals more susceptible to misinformation. Technology and Social Media: Algorithm-driven content creates echo chambers where misinformation spreads unchecked. Public Health Outcomes: Misinformation leads to vaccine hesitancy, delayed treatments and preventable deaths. How NPs Can Combat Misinformation: 1. Active Listening: Understand patients' concerns before correcting misinformation. 2. Effective Communication: Use simple, culturally relevant messaging tailored to health literacy levels. 3. Building Resilience: Teach patients how to critically evaluate health information sources. 4. Community Engagement: Collaborate with local leaders and organizations to promote credible information. Evaluating Evidence-Based Information: Use the CRAAP Test (Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, Purpose) to assess credibility. Trust peer-reviewed sources like CDC, WHO, FDA, Cochrane Reviews and PubMed. Be aware of misleading studies and cherry-picked data used to spread misinformation. Trusted Resources for Patients and Providers: For Clinicians: UpToDate, DynaMed, BMJ Best Practice, Cochrane Reviews. For Patients: MedlinePlus, Mayo Clinic, CDC Vaccine Fact Sheets, American Heart Association. In this thought-provoking episode of Shark Theory, Baylor Barbee delves into the often-overwhelming experience of burnout and how it can leave us feeling depleted emotionally, mentally, and physically. Now in the second quarter of the year, many find themselves hitting a lull after the initial excitement of New Year resolutions fades. Baylor explores how to navigate this burnout and keep progressing forward rather than merely surviving. Baylor emphasizes the importance of self-reflection to diagnose the root cause of fatigue and burnout. By analyzing personal commitments, he highlights how saying yes to too many demands can overextend us. Through strategic reflection, Baylor encourages listeners to appreciate the full plates they now have, reminding them of the days when opportunities were scarce. This episode offers practical advice on managing responsibilities, understanding when to say no, and recognizing when certain roles no longer align with our life's trajectory. Key Takeaways: Understanding burnout involves recognizing emotional, mental, and physical fatigue and finding its root cause. Reflecting on past times of inactivity can foster gratitude for current opportunities, despite feeling overwhelmed. Strategic self-analysis can determine which commitments need reevaluation to better manage current burdens. Letting go of commitments with integrity and honesty can lead to restored mental health and energy. Not all endings are negative; understanding when to move on can lead to personal growth and better future opportunities. Notable Quotes: "The danger... is you spend your entire life just simply trying to float, not moving forward towards your destination." "If your plate is full, if you're overextended, you gotta remember what it was like when your plate was empty." "Stay in situations that no longer serve us and it's time to get off the track." "If I can't, if I'm not an all-in, then I'm an all-out kind of guy." "You spend your whole life and people tell you, don't drop the ball... But you do it with integrity."
