As believers, we often struggle to let go of the things that keep us from reaching out to God. Valerie Woerner is on the show today teaching us that we don't have to limp through our prayer lives carrying the weight of every distraction. We can learn to pray boldly to the God of the universe who is beckoning us to come sit with him, share our needs and our hearts, and simply know him. Prayer invites action into our lives by the God who is more powerful than we are on our own. What weights do we need to take off so they don't hold us back from a deeper conversation with God? What distractions are holding us back from running freely with our Father? Let's get rid of the burdens that are suffocating our prayer lives and leaving us gasping for Jesus so we can experience true joy in prayer that we never thought possible. Because, ultimately, prayer changes everything. We talk about how prayer is the vessel of communication with God and how it is the first defense in this crazy broken world. We talk about how prayer is the way to abide in His will as long as you are consistently knowing who He is by being in His word. You can't know Him truly, if you don't know His word and spend time with Him. Valerie also covers how we can be praying with the wrong motives and how we can adjust the posture of our hearts by knowing who God is. Valerie gives us a peek into her amazing testimony to how she came to know the Lord and how that has played a huge role in her gifts that He has entrusted to her. How this testimony and struggles she has walked through has molded how she stewards the platforms the Lord has entrusted to her.We talk about the platform of prayer, motherhood, writing, and the impact of prayer. We unpack some of the nitty gritty things that have taken place in the midst of trying to abide in His word all for Him and how she approaches this with prayer and a strong focus on the Lord. If you've ever thought you'd be better at prayer by now and want a close communication with your Father which can transform even the most difficult moment of your life, this book can help start your journey.
Valerie Woerner is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is simple and practical and, for me, very relatable. So I was thrilled and nervous to interview her for this episode! She and I talked a lot about her new book, "Pray Confidently and Consistently", and because of that we got to talk a lot about prayer and how God's plan can be so much bigger and better than our plan often is. Val has written several books and also owns Val Marie Paper, a company that focuses on making prayer journals for everyone to help them connect better with God in prayer. You can find all her books and prayer journals here. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Val as much as I did! A prayerless faith is an empty faith. On today's episode, author Valerie Woerner and I discuss PRAYER. Do you get distracted when you're praying? Is our entire generation too distracted to pray? I think it is a bigger issue than we think. Do you feel like, deep down, it's more of a last resort than a first priority? Valerie and I dig into why prayer can be so difficult. We talk about seasons of chaos and busyness and the pull and distraction from the Enemy in these seasons. We discuss conversational prayer and why perfectionism shouldn't be a part of it, the messiness of the world and very practical tips to help you get to know Jesus on a much deeper level as a prayerful Christian. This conversation was powerful and impactful for me and I pray that it is the same for you! If you enjoy it, please do take a second to share on social and tag @livingeasywithlindsey. WANT MORE JOY IN MOTHERHOOD? THEN YOU NEED AN ESCAPE - NOT FROM MOTHERHOOD BUT FROM THE WORLD’S DEFINITION OF IT. Valerie was just your average mom who was spending way too much time frustrated with short naps, spilled milk and mundane days. She expected refreshment to come behind a locked bathroom door or on a beach somewhere but it started happening in her mind when she was able to identify twenty lies the world tells us about motherhood that were sabotaging her joy. The best part? Realizing those triggers is half the battle and requires way less striving than you thought. Valerie is a mother of two girls and creator of a Prompt and Prayer Journal and author of a book, Grumpy Mom Takes a Holiday. We talk about God's will, fighting the lies about motherhood that the world gives, and how to start adjusting our thinking during our days. Key Points from this Episode: Dance to shake out the grumpiness in the mornings. We are stronger than we think we are with the help of God. “When ours [our plans] are interrupted, His are not. His plans are proceeding exactly as scheduled, moving us always (including those minutes or hours or years which seem most useless or wasted or unendurable) ‘toward the goal of true maturity’ (Rom 12:2).” - Elisabeth Elliot Trust that worthy things we want to do will get done, even if it's not in the time frame we expect, or we will learn it isn't what God wants us to be doing. We don't need to add extra drama to our lives. We need to be real about motherhood. We cannot do motherhood for the praise. Our challenging moments in our days are just that - moments. Rehashing the hard times just forces our minds to dwell on those negative things rather than embracing and focusing on the positive that has happened. We can give our children a safe place to grow up and don't need to share every mistake they make. Think about how that must make our children feel. The world wants to distract us from the amazing gift that motherhood is. God wants us to recognize the gift that it truly is! There is space a between stimulus and response. We can adjust our auto-pilot thinking to change how we feel about the same situations. Start by taking the time to notice your thoughts. We can take responsibility and have integrity in our lives by accepting that things are not just happening to us, but we can choose how to act.

In this episode of the Working Christian Mom Podcast, I chat with Valerie Woerner of Val Marie Paper. Val is a friend of one of my biz besties, and the creator of one of the products that’s an MVP in my life, the yearly prayer journal. I own and use several Val Marie Paper products including the yearly prayer journal, an undated prayer journal and the prayer memoir journal. The yearly is my favorite because it helps me be intentional and focused in my prayer life. And no, this isn’t an ad, I just love her products. I’ll have a link to all of these products I adore plus all of the other links mentioned on the Working Christian Mom Website at www.workingchristianmom.com If you’re an entrepreneur you’re going to LOVE this conversation with Val because you’ll be able to take away things and implement them into your own business. And if you are a 9 to 5 or traditional working mom, there is good stuff in here for you too. Don’t skip it! You are going to love hearing about how Val works from a place of rest. Val has had an incredible first half of 2018 in her business. In addition to keeping up with the normal day to day of running a business and shipping her products, she’s finished not one but two books that are off to her publisher and editing team, but also Val Marie Paper was a vendor at Spring At the Silos at Magnolia in Waco Texas. Val is an entrepreneur with two little girls Vivi and Vana. In this episode she a lot about why it is important to make key hires and hire the right people for the right job, how she makes business happen with babies around, the process of writing her books and about her experience at Spring at the Silos. It sounds like a lot to juggle, but one thing that really struck me in our conversation is that just how much she is able to work from a place of rest and knowing she’s doing what God has called her to do. Connect with Val: Website / Instagram / Facebook Want to learn more about our programs this upcoming Fall? Click here. In this episode you’ll hear: Why Val is glad she took such a long time to hire key players in her business. The importance of staying in your own lane, especially as an entrepreneur. Val’s secrets to writing a book when you’ve got little kids at home. Val and her team went to the Silos at Magnolia to sell their products at Spring at the Silos. She shares how they were able to say yes to that even though she was writing on deadline. She also shares the specific prayers they prayed before they went and how God answered them Here are our three big takeaways: Having the RIGHT players on your team matters. Val recently hired two part time team members to assist her at Val Marie Paper. For a long time, she felt bad about HOW long it took her to find the right people. However, she is so glad that she did. Not only do her team members shine in their areas of her business, but they allow Val to excel in her role too. This was evident at Spring at the Silos where one person focused on running the check out, one person focused on welcoming people into their booth and Val spent time in the back of their booth meeting customers face to face. As they switched around their spots at their Spring at the Silos booth, Val realized how much each of her gal’s loved and shined in their area of expertise. When you really let your team members in your business run in their role, it frees you up to do the things only you can do in your business. When Val hired her team members not only did it free up some of her time, but it also freed up some of her brain space. She no longer had to worry about shipping or inventory needs because she has a team member who owns that process now. Keeping the Lord in the center of your work day is as easy as keeping a Bible open on your desk and praying as you walk through your house. Val keeps the Lord in the middle of her work by making sure the Word of God is open and nearby. It makes sense right? She recommends the Illuminated Bible because it’s beautiful and has scripture hand lettered in some of the margins. Her favorite place to keep it open to is in the Psalms. Val also recommends praying through your house as you go through it. She’s created a great tool called House Prayers that helps her transform the time she spends homemaking into purposeful prayer time. As moms, it is easy to make excuses when it comes to taking care of our soul. However, when we have little kids or are in a super busy season, that's the time that we honestly need it the most. We are constantly pouring out and don’t realize that we need poured into. And the more we make excuses now, the harder it is going to be to get back to taking care of our souls. Val Woerner is the owner of ValMarie Paper, where she creates journals and tools that are really help “cut through the noise” of everyday life and find fullness of life in the presence of the Lord. Even if you're busy, even if you're a mom of little ones, no matter your season. And I want to encourage you by telling you that whatever you have to give now is more than enough. On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Valerie Woerner of Val Marie Paper Company. We talked about everything from the purpose of prayer to how it works in conjunction with the other spiritual disciples. I confessed that prayer is one of the most humbling aspects of my walk with the Lord, and ya’ll, our conversation got me excited! I walked away encouraged to take advantage of the real privilege we have to grow in intimacy with God through prayer. Val said, “Jesus had to die on the cross so that we could be in communication with God. Without the cross, sin would separate us from God. There is no other way to have communication with God apart from the cross.” I am so thankful that Christ came so that we can be in true fellowship with God by the power of the Holy Spirit. What a gift to get to converse with him because of what Christ has done for us! So you’ll know her a little better, Valerie does life every day with her husband, Tyler, who is the owner of Pixelbrush Studios by day and a gourmet chef by night. She is momma to Vivi Mae and Vana. Her best friend was sort of built in but she wouldn’t trade her for any other, her twin sister Natalie! They live in Woerner Bungalow and are passionate about minimalistic living and finding margin in this busy-loving world. They live in Lafayette, Louisiana (also known as Cajun Country). She loves her life and where God has taken her, but He is far from done with her. Valerie doesn’t pretend to have it all figured out, but she’s happy to share her journey with us all! Her recent book, The Finishing School, is her journey and what she’d share with us if we were sitting on her porch drinking iced tea. I’m so excited for ya’ll to hear from her today!
