My friend Val Marie is such a gift. She's the founder of Val Marie Paper, she's an author and she designed the lovely yearly prayer journal, which I have used time and time again. Val has given me so much perspective on prayer and has been such an encouragement to my walk with the Lord and today we're talking about what prayer can actually look like in our lives and how to make 2024 a year of prayer, for you, for real. It's for those of us who are busy, tired, waiting, growing, dreaming, working, or praying about what's next. It's funny that we corporately get so excited about the holidays and at the same time, we corporately talk about how crazy we felt during them once they're over. We post a million memes about Mariah Carey in October, and then we all post the same meme the week after Christmas about how confused we are. We join in on the narrative of joy and celebration, but we also join in on the preset narrative about how this season leaves us feeling. If this resonates with you, this episode is for you. We talk about how prayer is the vessel of communication with God and how it is the first defense in this crazy broken world. We talk about how prayer is the way to abide in His will as long as you are consistently knowing who He is by being in His word. You can't know Him truly, if you don't know His word and spend time with Him. Valerie also covers how we can be praying with the wrong motives and how we can adjust the posture of our hearts by knowing who God is. Valerie gives us a peek into her amazing testimony to how she came to know the Lord and how that has played a huge role in her gifts that He has entrusted to her. How this testimony and struggles she has walked through has molded how she stewards the platforms the Lord has entrusted to her.We talk about the platform of prayer, motherhood, writing, and the impact of prayer. We unpack some of the nitty gritty things that have taken place in the midst of trying to abide in His word all for Him and how she approaches this with prayer and a strong focus on the Lord. Valerie Woerner is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is simple and practical and, for me, very relatable. So I was thrilled and nervous to interview her for this episode! She and I talked a lot about her new book, "Pray Confidently and Consistently", and because of that we got to talk a lot about prayer and how God's plan can be so much bigger and better than our plan often is. Val has written several books and also owns Val Marie Paper, a company that focuses on making prayer journals for everyone to help them connect better with God in prayer. You can find all her books and prayer journals here. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Val as much as I did! If you want to hear more about Val, you can follow her on instagram @valwoerner or @valmariepaper.
Do you ever wonder if God can hear you when you're struggling with anxiety? Listen as Val Woerner shares about her experience with anxiety and how God has led her though those hard times. You might know Val from the company Val Marie Paper where she and her team create beautiful prayer journals that I have used myself in order to become more consistent in my prayer life! You can also find her on instagram at @valmariepaper and @valwoerner. Are you excited about this new season? Then text a few friends and start a Prayers of REST prayer group! It's simple: just invite a few friends, commit to listening to the prayer episode each week, and then share with each other what God is revealing to you in prayer. Pray for each other, encourage each other, and maybe once a month try to meet together for a time of live prayer together. Because we learn how to pray not by reading a book about prayer or listening to a sermon about prayer, but by actually praying together. Until we meet again, may you find rest in God's loving presence. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/prayersofrest/message

It’s natural to prefer spending time with moms who share similar parenting values, lifestyle choices, and special interests with us. On the other hand, most of us can instantly think of a mom we avoid, because she makes us uncomfortable with her views in a gray-area of motherhood. These feelings beg the question, “How should we love and interact with those who do motherhood differently than us, especially when those differences breed difficulties?” In this episode, Emily and Laura apply the gospel to these challenging relationships, remembering that the cross levels all of us. Because of the extravagant grace shown to us, we can now love others who are different, even when it’s hard. We dive into the lessons she has learned in her business and leadership journey, including how she did not really consider herself a leader and instead “fell into” leadership roles. Today's episode is part two of a mini series on prayer. A bunch of you joined me in starting 2020 with the Draw the Circle 40 Day Prayer Challenge and as it came to a close, I wanted to dive a little deeper into the topic of prayer here on the podcast. If you haven't listened to Part 1, last week's episode was with Val Woerner, the founder of Val Marie Paper and creator of their Yearly Prayer Journals. Val shared tons of practical tips with us about creating prayer habits and you're not gonna want to miss that episode, so go give it a listen after this. In today's episode, I wanted to share what I learned over the past 40 days going through the Draw the Circle Prayer Challenge. I read Draw the Circle for the first time in years last summer and it wildly changed my prayer life for the better. There was something about spending 40 days focused in on my prayer life, learning more about prayer and developing habits of talking to God every day that was transformational. I knew I wanted to start the new year off with that focus, and it really has been the best way to kick off 2020. Press play for my three biggest takeaways from completing the Draw the Circle 40 Day Prayer Challenge.
If you're looking to develop a daily habit of prayer or deepen your prayer life, this episode is for you. I'm joined by my new friend Val Woerner for the first of this two part mini-series on prayer. Val is the founder of Val Marie Paper and creator of their Yearly Prayer Journals, so basically she runs an entire business focused specifically and solely on prayer. Val and I talked a little about her story of starting Val Marie Paper and then got into all about developing daily prayer habits, journaling our prayers, praying confidently and consistently, prayer during busy seasons and even a little thing she likes to call House Prayers. Guys, Val has so much wisdom to share in this episode and one of the reasons I love her most is she is a practical, tangible tips kinda girl, so you'll come away from this episode with some very real actions you can take to further your prayer life Read Val's House Prayers Blog Post We're giving away THREE Val Marie Paper Yearly Prayer Journals! My heart behind this podcast is the belief that when we share our stories, God uses them to show up in the lives of others. Today's guest is the perfect example of someone who lives that out. Mika Perry is a former professional organizer, mama of three and host of the Good to Be Home Podcast. WANT MORE JOY IN MOTHERHOOD? THEN YOU NEED AN ESCAPE - NOT FROM MOTHERHOOD BUT FROM THE WORLD’S DEFINITION OF IT. Valerie was just your average mom who was spending way too much time frustrated with short naps, spilled milk and mundane days. She expected refreshment to come behind a locked bathroom door or on a beach somewhere but it started happening in her mind when she was able to identify twenty lies the world tells us about motherhood that were sabotaging her joy. The best part? Realizing those triggers is half the battle and requires way less striving than you thought. Listen in as I chat with Val, owner of Val Marie Paper and author of Grumpy Mom Takes a Holiday and Fresh Start for Moms. Her mission is to create practical tools, including her original 6-month prompted prayer journal, and content that equips women to cut through the noise of everyday life and find fullness in the presence of the Lord. She lives in South Louisiana with her husband Tyler and two girls, Vivi and Vana.

This episode, ya'll. My friend, Holly sent me a message me one day and said, "Wren. You have got to hear Jess’s story." After Jess had spoken at a Veterans Day event, Holly immediately went up to encourage her. Holly connected Jess and myself and I’m so grateful for Holly knowing what an impact Jess will make, and that she has been an encouragement for Jess to share. Jess has only spoken in public a few other times and I’m so grateful she entrusted me in sharing her story with you today. Jess takes me back to her life of searching for her identity as a young preteen girl, and how she kept coming up feeling empty throughout her life. One morning, after putting her five month old baby girl in her swing for a nap, Jess was devastated with a knock on the door with the news that her first husband, Tell had been killed in action while he was stationed in Iraq. God used a sympathy card filled with verses from a friend she hardly knew that drew Jess to God’s word. In her desperation, Jess found a Bible in her home and dove in head first into reading the scriptures. In this episode you will hear how Jess came to faith in Christ after visiting with a friend at his church. This friend eventually became her husband, a man who passionately loved God and those around him. This is what Jess said about her story. “Today, I am a mess. But, oh the treasure of Christ. I am seen…a life of feeling unseen and bitter about it. So bitter. Now, God reminds me daily to Whom I belong and there is redemption. There is a breaking of the chain of misaffection and misplaced identity. And, I hope to share that with other women.” Ya’ll Jess is using all of her story to glorify Him. And, I’m so grateful. I pray you will walk away encouraged, feeling seen and loved by God, and praising God who redeems us. All of the links and things Jess and I talked about will be in the show notes below. Ok, One more thing! If you were encouraged by what you heard today, I would love for you to forward this episode on to a friend! I think that we are all better together and today is the perfect time to give that friend in mind some encouragement. In this episode of the Working Christian Mom Podcast, I chat with Valerie Woerner of Val Marie Paper. Val is a friend of one of my biz besties, and the creator of one of the products that’s an MVP in my life, the yearly prayer journal. I own and use several Val Marie Paper products including the yearly prayer journal, an undated prayer journal and the prayer memoir journal. The yearly is my favorite because it helps me be intentional and focused in my prayer life. And no, this isn’t an ad, I just love her products. I’ll have a link to all of these products I adore plus all of the other links mentioned on the Working Christian Mom Website at www.workingchristianmom.com If you’re an entrepreneur you’re going to LOVE this conversation with Val because you’ll be able to take away things and implement them into your own business. And if you are a 9 to 5 or traditional working mom, there is good stuff in here for you too. Don’t skip it! You are going to love hearing about how Val works from a place of rest. Val has had an incredible first half of 2018 in her business. In addition to keeping up with the normal day to day of running a business and shipping her products, she’s finished not one but two books that are off to her publisher and editing team, but also Val Marie Paper was a vendor at Spring At the Silos at Magnolia in Waco Texas. Val is an entrepreneur with two little girls Vivi and Vana. In this episode she a lot about why it is important to make key hires and hire the right people for the right job, how she makes business happen with babies around, the process of writing her books and about her experience at Spring at the Silos. It sounds like a lot to juggle, but one thing that really struck me in our conversation is that just how much she is able to work from a place of rest and knowing she’s doing what God has called her to do. Connect with Val: Website / Instagram / Facebook Want to learn more about our programs this upcoming Fall? Click here. In this episode you’ll hear: Why Val is glad she took such a long time to hire key players in her business. The importance of staying in your own lane, especially as an entrepreneur. Val’s secrets to writing a book when you’ve got little kids at home. Val and her team went to the Silos at Magnolia to sell their products at Spring at the Silos. She shares how they were able to say yes to that even though she was writing on deadline. She also shares the specific prayers they prayed before they went and how God answered them Here are our three big takeaways: Having the RIGHT players on your team matters. Val recently hired two part time team members to assist her at Val Marie Paper. For a long time, she felt bad about HOW long it took her to find the right people. However, she is so glad that she did. Not only do her team members shine in their areas of her business, but they allow Val to excel in her role too. This was evident at Spring at the Silos where one person focused on running the check out, one person focused on welcoming people into their booth and Val spent time in the back of their booth meeting customers face to face. As they switched around their spots at their Spring at the Silos booth, Val realized how much each of her gal’s loved and shined in their area of expertise. When you really let your team members in your business run in their role, it frees you up to do the things only you can do in your business. When Val hired her team members not only did it free up some of her time, but it also freed up some of her brain space. She no longer had to worry about shipping or inventory needs because she has a team member who owns that process now. Keeping the Lord in the center of your work day is as easy as keeping a Bible open on your desk and praying as you walk through your house. Val keeps the Lord in the middle of her work by making sure the Word of God is open and nearby. It makes sense right? She recommends the Illuminated Bible because it’s beautiful and has scripture hand lettered in some of the margins. Her favorite place to keep it open to is in the Psalms. Val also recommends praying through your house as you go through it. She’s created a great tool called House Prayers that helps her transform the time she spends homemaking into purposeful prayer time.
