My next guest is truly a hockey pioneer, but he'd prefer to remain in the background, giving praise and credit to others around him. In 1959, Murray Williamson became an All-American in hockey at the University of Minnesota. Won silver as the head coach of the men's US Olympic hockey team in 1972 Sapporo, Japan. Was the coach and GM of the first US National Jr. team that participated in the inaugural World Junior Tournament held in Leningrad, Russia in 1973. In 2001, he was named one of the fifty most significant players and coaches in Minnesota hockey history. This only scratches the surface of all that Mr. Williamson not only accomplished, but has contributed to the game of hockey. For his full story, because we won't cover his full journey in this episode, I encourage you to pick-up a copy of his recent book, The Road To Respectability - Murray Williamson's Role In US Hockey. I've included the link where you can pick up your copy after you listen to the interview, I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. Team Canada successfully defends its World Junior Title and wins Gold for the second time in five months. Was this the best World Junior Tournament ever? We think it just might have been. The Leafs are having goaltending issues and there isn't anyone out there for them to bring in to right the ship. Will this keep the Leafs out of Round 2 of the playoffs yet again? Hoskin joined the Trash Pandas over Christmas and attacked an opposing goalie. Enjoy!

It's been an exciting week for hockey fans in Moncton, and the businesses who cater to them. The last two games of the World Junior Tournament to be played in the Hub city are today. We caught up with Mayor Dawn Arnold between them to talk about how her city did as host.
Alex and Chace are back with another week of content! Today, they start off by taking a look at a hit to the head that happened in the 2023 World Juniors game between Canada and Czechia. Alex wants to know why the NHL doesn't have more serious hit-to-the-head rules. As well as highlighting his idea of a mix between how serious the IIHF takes it and how unserious the NHL seems to take it. They also discuss the 2023 World Juniors as a whole. From there, they take a look at a great mailbag question when it comes to increased scoring, especially on the powerplay, and has it been factored in enough to analytical models and analysis? The guys give their thoughts on that topic and go back and forth. Finally, they discuss if NHL betting will ever reach NFL levels when it comes to analytics. A discussion that was spawned thanks to their sponsors at BetStamp!

Christmas has come and gone, and we continue for the break to come to an end, but there is still plenty to talk about. The World Junior Tournament has started and the Canadian team has lost a game! We also looked at a couple B's prospects taking part in the tourney. We start the show with the investigation into the B's signing of Mitchell Miller only to have no misconduct found on their part. It was to be independent, but since the B's paid for it, independence comes into question. The Hamburglar, Andrew Hammond, has retired due to an injury which he will not fully recover from in his ankle. Ryder Getzlaf has taken the role of junior reporter for the day and run with it, entertaining us in the process. See the link below. We look back at an older show and discover that there has not been much change in the officiating in the NHL while breaking down a college game where a player was given a major penalty for an incident that wasn't as well as a knee to knee hit by Sam Bennett. We talk about how underrated William Nylander is for the Leafs and touch on players for the Bruins that could potentially win awards this season. Hope everyone is having a fabulous holiday season but lets get back to the game of Hockey. Enjoy the Show! https://twitter.com/AnaheimDucks/status/1605673788045025282

Well, Christmas is right around the corner, but here at the Two Man Forecheck we are celebrating Show number 300! And even though it is a Monday night, we are pulling out the stops to give you another packed show. We start with a little history and hi-jinks before bantering about the tantrum thrown by Jacob Trouba. Has he inspired his team or is there something else at work? Ovi has reached 800 goals and did it with a hat trick! He will break Gretzky's record we believe, so the new question is...will he reach 1000? Ryan Reaves hit Filip Hronek pretty hard in their last match up, but was it a legal hit? We discuss. The Winnipeg Jets are suffering through many injuries this season, so can they sustain their current level of success? We review the PHF standings and talk about the Boston Pride. A prospect has crossed our desks that may be worth a watch...Andrew Cristall of the Kelowna Rockets. We break down the results of our last Twitter Poll and Mike tells us why he's worried about the current state of the Bruins. As stated, a packed show so give us a listen and stick around for the next 300! Enjoy the show! Oh yeah...Don't forget the World Junior Tournament later this month or the Boston Beanpot Tournaments in February 2023!

Jason Bukala joined Matty Rose to preview this year's World Junior tournament. He gives his take on Connor Bedard and the key players in this tourney. Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson discusses the Stamps' win over the Redblacks and their matchup with the Lions, The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Media Inc. or any affiliate.
I came to the conclusion during the podcast that this team needs to stop having players "be the hero". Just play smart hockey and the hero will come to you. Hopefully that starts happening this weekend! But this was a packed show as we talked about the Michigan split before the break. The cancelled World Junior Tournament. The Michigan blunder when they cancelled on Western Michigan. We even got a bit in to the exhibition games, the Michigan State series and also who from this team is expected to leave to play with Team USA for the Olympics. So a very busy episode!
It's our first show of 2022! The Oilers are in a free fall of epic proportions and the OTR gang has some helpful suggestions to get them parachuted to safety. Thatcher Demko has been a rock for the Canucks, is he a Hart Trophy Candidate? Connor Bedard was absolutely flying at the abbreviated World Juniors, should he get consideration for a spot on the Canadian Olympic team? We also ponder what a World Junior Tournament in the Summer would look like, we think it could be must see TV! We bring our customary beer of the week recommendations as well. It's so great to be back, enjoy the show!
Shane Wright of the KIngston Frontenacs. Photo by Robert Lefebvre/OHL Images. HockeyProspect.com has released our second 2022 NHL Draft Ranking of the season. This NHL Draft list follows up our previous ranking which was released back on October 25th, 2021. Shane Wright is hanging tough as the player sitting atop of our December ranking. Wright and his Canadian teammates will get their World Junior Tournament underway later today vs the Czech Republic. When Wright returns to Kngston he will get enjoy an old linemate who has returned to the OHL. We are big fans of Zayde Wisdom and he recently got back into a game for Kingston prior to the shutdown. He played a role in helping Shane Wright have a great rookie OHL reason two years ago. Two players who were on the outside looking into our top 32 back on October 25th both play for the Saginaw Spirit. Moving up to 10th overall is Pavel Mintyukov, a talented defender who has 6 goals and 16 assists for 22 points in 25 games at the Christmas break. His teammate, Matyas Sapovaliv, is a big lanky centre who is just beginning to fill out his frame. Matyas has 8 goals and 13 assists at the break, is skilled, very smart, strong in the faceoff circle and sits at 19th on our list. Logan Cooley from the USNTDP, Danila Yurov, from Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL and Owen Pickering from the Swift Current Broncos are all holding their spots in our top 5. You can watch Cooley and Yurov beginning today, as they both made their respective Country's World Junior rosters. Check back soon as we'll have more audio posts coming in the days ahead. As a hockey player, Theo Fleury won an Olympic Gold Medal for Canada and a Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames. He is also responsible for one of the most memorable goal celebrations in NHL history. But it's his victories off the ice, as a survivor of addiction and abuse, and a champion for recovery, which he's most proud of. On today's Games People Play podcast, Bernie and Theo talk about the infamous Canada-Russia brawl at the 1987 World Junior Tournament; the Edmonton-Calgary rivalry of the 80s and 90s; owning one of the few NHL scoring records not held by Wayne Gretzky; playing in Ireland for the Belfast Giants, and the importance of retiring a Flame. Later, Theo tells of a chance meeting at a golf tournament and how it led to the writing of his memoir, Playing With Fire, which recounts his experience as a child of trauma victim parents, his own sexual abuse, healing through music and reconnection with his Aboriginal roots, and his current calling as an inspirational speaker.
