From post-pandemic manufacturing restart planning and worker safety measures, to legal issues and supply chain disruptions, Automotive Insiders is your source of timely and relevant content. Host Bonnie D. Graham welcomes Tom Roberts, Vice President, Automotive and Mobility at QAD. Mr. Roberts quotes Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius, who spoke in May 2021 about the challenge of speeding up the transition to electric vehicles: “We have to have an honest conversation about jobs…Everyone knows it takes more labour hours to assemble and build a combustion-based powertrain compared to an electric powertrain.” Tom noted that with a continuously contracting powertrain parts industry, companies will require parallel cuts in GA, which will squeeze corporate budgets for HR, IT, and other central functions. “Automotive is already finding it difficult to staff the jobs they have now and will not be able to increase wages to staff open positions. Companies must move toward simplification and standardization of processes and also must move toward IT automation to survive.” Discussing the chip shortage, Tom Roberts observed the challenge for OEMs building cars without the chips and parking them in big lots: “When they receive the chips, how will they then install the chips in those parked vehicles?” Listen to the full conversation and learn more from Tom Roberts. Kerr Russell is a full-service business law firm that represents numerous automotive businesses with all aspects of their legal needs. Mr. Bank explains how an automotive business in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy must prepare a comprehensive and realistic plan to restructure its financial affairs and demonstrate the plan has a reasonable chance of success with creditors, who are permitted to vote on it. He advises, “Contested hearings over disputes with creditors lead to more fees and expenses and can harm a company's ability to emerge from Chapter 11.” Tune in to hear more of his expertise. Host Bonnie D. Graham welcomes Brianne Ray, Business Relation Strategist for Communications & Client Strategy for LUX interactive's LyfeCycle technology tool for EHS&S. Brianne Ray describes EHS&S – Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability – as far more than just meeting compliance and checking boxes. It is the critical heartbeat of keeping an organization safe for its employees, compliant, and focused on environmental loyalty. EHS&S is an organizational discipline that includes creating standardized health and safety procedures, analyzing data to identify workplace hazards and areas of risk, reducing exposure to harmful situations and substances, and mitigating future incidents. Brianne Ray's advice to automotive suppliers: “Don't forget to evolve and modernize! It's easy to stay in one place just because something seems to ‘work just fine'. Making your EHS&S program better starts with knowing it can't stay the way it has for the past 20 years. Don't put modernization on the back burner.” Listen on-demand to hear the full conversation with Brianne Ray. More info: https://OESA.org

Peter Pearce discusses repositioning of the automotive supply business, as leading automotive suppliers are leveraging advanced integrated technologies to accelerate and transform their business. He also addresses how manufacturers are looking for solutions to the gap in workforce through process reengineering and technology automation. His advice for the automotive supplier community: “Suppliers need to be brave in this new economy. Historically, we focused exclusively on the needs of customers and not the needs of the industry. As a supplier, we have so much more to offer the supply chain. The new OEMS and the traditional OEMS who are investing in the new EV technology still need the amazing engineering and design the existing supply chain has to offer, but need to develop and think differently on what we make, how we make it, and if we are profitable in doing so. If your product portfolio is exclusively linked to the ICE powertrain today, you need to diversify. Period.” More info: www.linkedin.com/company/bakertillyus and https://OESA.org
