Creating Hope and Help For Foster Care Kids and adults after they are emancipated is the subject and heart of conversation for Monique Fultz. Monique Fultz is the author of "Nowhere to Call Home" which began as a journaling tool for her healing. This tool not only brought healing, but a book to fuition after experiencing years of neglect and abuse in her original birth home, as well as many foster homes. Although Monique did not experience wholesome nurture, affection, and love she still is very passionate about helping kids in the foster care system receive the help they need to survive. Her book is based on her own personal life experiences and is available on Amazon.com. This is only part 1 of a story from tragedy to triumph and truly tells a story of how God takes our mourning and turns it into dancing. Developing Your Higher Mental Faculties - Imagination I believe developing your higher mental faculties takes a combination of many things working together. As you develop your higher mental faculties, you reap the fruit is manifesting your deepest desires at a much faster rate. I recognize higher mental faculties as Perception, Reasoning, Imagination, Intuition, Memory, and Will. Let's talk about imagination. Relaxation is key to use, improve, and develop the fullness of your imagination. I have found that listening to guided meditation and instrumental music at various speeds such as 10 and Hz 14. Music that is 440 Hz and 432 Hz are great for reducing blood pressure, synchronizing both sides of the brain, and releasing serotonin and endorphins are a few tools that help to develop your higher faculties. When you intentionally work to improve at least ONE of your higher mental faculties, it facilitates the ability to improve other facilities. Ultimately, the key to developing your higher mental faculties relies on many things working together. One of the most valuable lessons learned about being vengeful and exacting revenge on another human being is about control. I would rather have self-control than allow someone else to have control over me. I understood that once I reached a point where someone else made me upset, hurt, or mad and I could imagine harming another person was not good for me. I realized that another person had control over my emotions and behavior. Anytime you decide you want to do something that is out of your normal character then you have allowed someone else to shift and change how you behave, and ultimately how your life choices will play out for you. Self-control is my choice. I would rather appear weak by having the character of meekness, than actually be weak by allowing my emotions to control me. I know that the laws of sowing and reaping are real. Therefore, I will not do anything out of character that will change the trajectory of my life in a negative way over trying to save face and not be embarrassed. Many times people want to get revenge when they are hurt or upset because they don't want to be embarrassed by thinking they have to appear hard and lash out in front of others. Today the focus is on FORGIVENESS; being able to forgive others who have hurt us, restrained us, restricted us or limited us, abandoned us, or any other wrong doing is a Super Power. Luke 6:37 says judge not and you shall not be judged; condemn not and you will not be to them forgive and you shall be forgiven. Having true harmony is having the ability to focus on forgiving on ourselves whether that's things that have been done intentionally or unintentionally. As you meditate on forgiveness being able to take a deep breath in through the nose and let it out in your mouth helps. You can imagine breathing in all good thoughts, feelings, and emotions. As you breath out imagine breathing out grudges you might be holding against yourself or someone else. Also imagine breathing out any other negative thoughts or feelings or memories that would come to mind. I understand that forgiving yourself can sometimes be the harder than forgiving others. Remember every time you forgive someone or express forgiveness for yourself, you're setting yourself free. Forgiveness is not about the other person who has wronged you or your love one. Forgiveness is for you. It will benefit each of us to take a few minutes each day to examine ourselves and think about events of the day to see if we need to ask for forgiveness of others, as well as forgive ourselves. Here are a few emotions that are helpful to look for: feeling you have been cheated, rejected, abandoned, shut down, unheard, bitter, angry, or revengeful. #Revenge is a big subject we will discuss on another episode. And just really getting specific because I think that a lot of the things we think we want coming from outside of us. Everybody wants different things. And so figured out really what is your dream? I want enough money in the bank that I'm not stressed out all the time. I want a house that we a lot of us just want to be clean and comfortable. We don't need big, huge spacious houses. You know, it's like what do you really want? once you figure that out, it's super, it's really easy to start getting some parts and pieces of that right away and have something. Tip of the day for living your #dreamlifestyle is Accountability. We all need a person, partner, or group who will hold us accountable for what we say. This needs to be someone you can trust who won't just hold your hand and pat you on the back whenever you don't follow through with putting in the work to #manifesting your #dreamlife, but you need someone or group of people who will hold you responsible to what you say you want to accomplish. Someone who will help you gain clarity, declutter, spark ideas, set goals, and meet macro and micro deadlines. This leads to responsibility (anyone can say the want to accomplish something, but it is not until you put action behind that something to make it work. (Faith without works is dead) James 2: 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works. Once you put consistent action behind what you want to accomplish or what you want #yourdreamlifestyle to look like then you have a behavior or action(s) in place. Once you remain consistent this action or behavior then it becomes a habit(s) that lead to progress and success. This builds character. The character building is leading you to your final destination or destiny. One thing follows the next, and the next, and so on, just like a system that becomes automated. (Another example. you want to get in shape and your body is used to eating and laying down. Well if all of a sudden you start working out hard the body is not used to this and . or go without eating red meat for a lengthy period. Then suddenly you eat a big fat juicy tenderloin. You body is not used to the substance and may reject it or not know what is going on and not be able to process your food properly. Watch how all this follows like a system – automation – success (success leaves clues) “Watch your thoughts for they become words, watch your words for they become actions, watch your actions, for they become habits, watch your habits for they become your character, watch your character for it becomes your destiny.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson. Dr. Traci Williams shares more tips on #livingyourdreamlifestyle. Tip 1 Give yourself permission to dream extravagantly to know that it's okay to live in abundance. Even if it's every once in a while, sometimes you have to start right there. Tip 2 Create a multi sensory vision. Think about what you can hear, see, taste, touch and smell. I'm gonna give you a good example. For example, if your dream style is to live in the mountains, where you can wake up every day and see see beautiful mountains and a log cabin, it would be nice to have that on your phone every time your phone rings. It would also be the same effect it you want to live along the beach and you saw pictures of the ocean, seashells, seafood, etc. Tip 3: Have a good support system. What kind of support? Do you need an accountability partner? If you're trying to lose weight what does that look like? Do you need to get a coach for you? Do you need to start lifting weights. Do you need to do aerobics exercise? Do you need to eat something healthier? What does that look like on a daily basis? Is it three bowls of fruit, four bowls of vegetables, and no meat or bread for three days? What does that look like on a weekly basis for you? This episode features Sally Shaver DuBois and her book "Keeping Your Head Above The Water." She gives practical tips on how to live a healthy, joy-filled life in a world full of unknown variables. Partial show notes: How did you come up with that title? And what made you write this book? Well, I think the book has been inside of me for many, many years. But I have been a teacher. I've worked with a lot of people in the health and wellness profession. I started the book before the pandemic, and then once the pandemic yet I'm like, I have got to finish this because everybody is needing some stress relief. And so the idea is, you know, when we're, if we're drowning, literally we're down below the water. It's, it's going to kill us if we don't get our heads above water. And stress is sort of like that. It's sort of sneaky. Sometimes just like you know, if you think you're out swimming in the ocean, and the next thing you know, those rip tides have taken you away and you don't realize it. That's sort of how stress can be you might just be on the roll in us women a lot of times or caregivers we give and give and give and give and we forgot we forget to do the self-care things that things that you talk about. And the next thing we know our own health is starting to suffer. The book is all about some ideas and tips and techniques of some, I think, practical ways that we can reduce stress. And I know you are all about our relationship with God and although this is not a Christian book, I do mention that that is important to me. That's ultimately that's how we get our joy is because we have God we let him be in control. But beyond that, there's some tips in here to help people with their stress. Tell us a little bit about the the principles of LEARN Let me just review quickly and then maybe we'll talk about the laughter because you mentioned that. So LEARN acronym, these are the five tips or techniques that I found that helped me and I think will help other people, whether you do one of them or all of them. Laugh. We'll come back to that one. Exercise is so important getting up and moving that there's a lot of research that shows how exercise reduces stress, stress, an attitude of gratitude and giving back and I know you've had a previous episode on gratitude. So you've talked about that one, relax, reflect and recharge, and that's being quiet and that would be for me, that's my quiet time in the morning with God my prayer but also just putting away devices and being able to be mindful of who we are in the moment and the last one they add is for nutrition and looking at food as our medicine. We'll come back to the laughter one, then you mentioned that and yes, in the Bible, it talks about the importance of laughter, and Proverbs 17. I use that verse a lot. I don't remember the exact verse. But it's in that chapter about how the laughter or joy is medicine to our bones. And it really is, I mean, you've talked about that. We can feel it but there is research out there that shows that laughter has a lot of the same physiological and emotional effects that exercise does it and most importantly, it reduces that stress hormone cortisol. So when we're stressed when we're running around, I mean, sometimes we need to be stressed because like we to get things done, or we just be hanging out on the couch all day. But when we're stressed cortisol goes up inside our body. So if we don't have a method for reducing that somehow, which is part of this Learn acronym that is not good for us because our blood pressure goes up. It can cause a lot of other problems in our bodies physiologically and as we found in the last two years, emotionally, we our mental health. Verona's entire theme of helping others revolves around others evolve into the person that you are authentically created to be. From the first book all the way to all these things I'm doing is to help others evolve into authentic self. She says, “As you can see my book my second book, came out with the same butterfly effects on the cover.” The whole point of the butterfly is evolvement. And when you evolve, you can't go back. So let's do this. Let me help you evolve into your authentic self and become one with nature. One key to being free is to become comfortable being you. We are created to be human beings, but we get stuck in being human doings. This occurs when we start doing stuff, and we thinking we're supposed to do this and do that, or accomplish this and that to be successful. But what is happening is we start to compete. Right? We compete with the next person we see on social media. We often want to fit in. But the goal should be to dig deep and find you and be the best version of you? This is how butterflies are free, beautiful, graceful. They come and go and do as they please. If they stay they come and whisper and then they gone like, Oh, do you see my color? They never stay in one place too long because that's not the point that what is to be free and that is the point for everybody is to be free. You cannot restrain. You're not supposed to restrain us, no matter which way you look at it. Mentally, emotionally, spiritually financially, or sexually. Verona Brown-Willis poses the question which is the title to her book "Are You Free Enough?" When asked what she would say to others about reading, she says, “I want to encourage someone to read, and you don't have to read my book. You don't have to read a lot of books. You just must read your name. Find your name. Read your name. Reading is not where you turn 500 pages. Reading simple means you look at a word and read that word out. Look at a word and see what word you can find from that one word. That's what reading is. Reading is not intense. It's not rigid. What is Your Favorite Affirmations? Positive affirmations attract an abundance of positive opportunities, connections, and blessings. Whatever words you put in motion definitely attraction the vibrations that you send out and they will will return unto you. Positive affirmations are connected to the law of cause and effect. Thelesa Moore shares one of her favorite affirmations and how she changed her negative statement of “I can't” to I can and I will.” - She shares how she surrounds herself with positivity all the time. One of her other favorites she shared that she learned from her father was to "live and let live," meaning live your life and allow others to live their lives. Affirmations with your best intentions of the day and what you really want. Dr. Traci mentions that her favorite affirmations always begin with "I am so happy and grateful." Dr. Traci Williams defines what a Quantum Leap is according to physics. She describes one example using child like faith. References 2 Peter 1:5 and encourages you to stir up your gifts inside of you. Squash the limiting beliefs of negativity and remember you are created for abundance. A quantum leap can be described as an abrupt change, dramatic advance, or a sudden increase. One example is when you take your young kids to swimming lessons and they begin in the shallow end of the pool to practice, but all of a sudden they get curious and jump in the deep end without notice. They have faith that everything is going to be fine and they will be safe. Many times taking a quantum leap or making a sudden change may feel as if someone pulled the carpet from under you. So it is important to be open to making mistakes and not doing everything perfectly. If you see the life you want and have an idea of how to make that change, I strongly encourage you to go with your gut and 'Just Do It.' The second type of faith for a quantum leap is having water-water unfeigned faith. We were not designed to be limited, but we are designed to live an abundant life. In this podcast Genesis Amaris Kemp shares her new book with us "Chocolate Drop in Corporate America" from the Pit to the Palace. This was birthed out of her frustration from discrimination on one of her jobs. One of her thoughts are: "I feel like everyone has the ability to have a seat at the table; everyone has the ability to soar. And we are all created differently, but if we start to complement one another versus comparing ourselves to each other, then we will get so much further along in society. whether it's in the workplace, outside of the workplace or society as a whole, and I've never experienced so much social unrest, social injustice, and political turmoil." Some of her tips are to surround yourself with others who do not look like you, educate yourself by listening to podcasts, and travel as well have pray and journal. I started networking outside of the company with our allies, and I befriended someone on LinkedIn who has been pivotal. He is an older Caucasian male and we talk and have open conversations. He's transparent. He's also the vice president of a particular company and he gave me a lot of insight. We've walked through what compensation looks like for my particular role, and how I should navigate those conversations. I spent a long time with my family. I joined a group at at church, it was called the league so it was different women from all over the city of Houston, and you really just get together if you do live together and you talk about what's working, what's not working, and you help each other bridge the gap for the area that you may be struggling in or the area where you need to advance it or whatever and you build your, your tribe and I think it's very important to determine who your tribe is and what your tribe stands for. Another thing that really helped me was, you know, taking the negative energy that I had, and making it positive because spending time thinking about the negative energy is not helping me like, if anything, it's causing my health to deteriorate. It's causing me not to be mindful so I'm getting massages and just like you know that like going somewhere where I could just relax, and then I came up with my three R's, which are refuel refocus and realign, and I think it's so important that you recognize whenever you're getting to a point of feeling burnt out, and you have to take that power from someone else and apply it to yourself because once you know who you are, then no one can tell you or discount or discredit, who you are, who you are.
