Today we're visiting the capital city of California, which just happens to be Sacramento for the uninformed, to chat with the award-winning entrepreneur, impact leader, and youth arts program creator, Tamaira Sandifer. And here's an impressive stat to get us underway. Tamaira, or Miss Tee as she's affectionately known, has mentored over 880,000 youths in school districts in underserved communities across America. She does this largely through her Studio T Arts & Entertainment company, where they instill real-life skills, hope, and a sense of belonging through groundbreaking programming and diverse educators who specialize in creating avenues for the development of trauma-informed youth and cutting-edge technologies. Tamaira has developed some of Hollywood's most sought-after young dancers, including the 2016 winner of So You Think You Can Dance, the 2018 World of Dance Stars, and members of the Jabbawockeez. Her graduates currently travel the world, performing with stars such as Justin Beiber, Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Usher, Beyoncé and Ellen. Her students have gone on to work for the White House and be seen on stages of MTV Music Awards, Nick Choice Awards, BET Awards & more, as well as to defy the statistical odds. As a pioneering champion for pathways through the arts and business, Miss Tee has garnered recognition such as Forbes Cultural 50 Champion, Woman of the Year by California Legislative Women's Caucus, NAWBO Outstanding Woman Leader, and Hub Magazine's Exceptional Women of Color. Tamaira is also the founder of California's Day of Dance, a board member of Californians for the Arts, a member of the City of Sacramento's Race and Cultural Equity Task Force, and Chair of Americans for the Arts Art Education Council. Wow, that's a list and a half, and as you'll hear during our conversation, Tamaira lives to serve. “Where you stand, be the soul of that place.” This Rumi quote always reminds me of Manish Chandra. He's not only the soul of every place he's in. He illuminates the soul of every person he meets, as a father, friend, and the founder of Poshmark. Manish is an incredible teacher who I'm honored to call my friend. I was thankful to explore the spirit he embodies in today's episode — One of love and connection, gratitude and perspective. I've returned to his words on adaptability over the last few months… “Adaptability is, given a set of situations, instead of resisting it, you embrace and surrender to it. Then, figure out: How do you succeed in that situation? How do you adapt? There's always a winning strategy. If you approach it with that possibility, first of all, it's hopeful, right? It's optimism. It means that you can succeed. Second, by not resisting the circumstances, you take the time to understand the circumstances. Third, life is a series of these episodes. So, you can apply your learnings to different circumstances and grow in various ways. All of these things are amazing byproducts of first accepting the circumstance, then adapting, then succeeding.” I'm thankful to close our Inspiring Hope series with Manish's wisdom. In illuminating our agency, he reminds us that hope is always possible.

How can I make this person feel seen, heard, and valued in the most authentic way possible?  Girls Who Code CEO Dr. Tarika Barrett asks this question before every conversation. Her exuberance sharing it became an anchoring insight in our Inspiring Hope series…  “These are vital acts — Be it with your children, colleagues, family, or friends…We don't give joy its due; By being agents of joy, we can enact change. We think about every problem around us, as opposed to recognizing that these small and big acts of joy have tremendous power.”  In our conversation, we explore her wisdom as an invitation. When we measure our impact by magnitude, change feels out of reach. When we measure it by the difference we can make in one life, we awaken to a deeper sense of purpose.  As we embark on this series, I invite you to join me in adopting her ritual over the next five weeks. Prior to every interaction, consider asking: How can I make this person feel seen, heard, and valued in the most authentic way possible?  Imagine the collective hope we'll inspire when we do.

Until now, we've had this exclusive interview that Pastor Brad had done with Naomi Judd just prior to the pandemic lockdown in 2020.  We had yet to release the interview in the anticipation that we would be having Naomi speak at a Night of Inspiring Hope in the near future and would release the interview at that time.  However, due to Naomi's death we have decided to release the interview. We do so, not to capitalize on this tragic event, but rather to honor her and the struggle she had with depression and anxeity.  We are hopeful that this interview with both honor and remind us all that mental health challenges are very real and affect us all.   If you or someone you know is suicidal please call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 800-273-8255. Help and hope is available. If you struggle with a mental health challenge  or love someone who does please consider attending a Fresh Hope support group meeting in person or online.  We encourage you to share this podcast with your friends via your social media connections.
