On this week's episode we spoke about what it was like growing up in an immigrant family and why it's so important to her to stay connected to her roots. Klaudia quit her corporate job and started a career as a travel blogger, but she's still a huge advocate for transparency on social media.     On this week's episode of Women We Love Wednesday we spoke with Chanel Taylor about her non-profit work, why she's working on becoming more direct, and mental health in the Black community. Chanel is a publicist with the Bee Agency, the host of the Pretty Political Podcast, and she is currently studying law at the University of Detroit Mercy. She is also the founder of the Detroit based non-profit The Detroit Benevolent Society which has provided over 700,000 meals to Detroit families and seniors since the start of the pandemic. Chanel believes in serving her community and that we can all give back in some way. She works tirelessly not only to give back but, in her work as a publicist, to also change the way that African-Americans are portrayed in the media. Chanel credits her upbringing and her family with inspiring her to become politically active. Her podcast “Pretty Political”, which she co-hosts with Kelsi Horn, seeks to keep the audience well-informed with a side of light-hearted content. Chanel hopes that in the future she will always be able to give back and serve her community where the greatest need arises. Grace came to the US knowing little English and was eventually able to earn her teaching certificate and followed her passion to start her fashion blog. We went DEEP on this episode. Grace opened up about losing her late husband, scars leftover from her impoverished childhood in rural China, & how she was able to find joy again. Grief is often an uncomfortable topic in our society and many of us try and find ways to avoid discussing it- as if we don't talk about it it just isn't there. Nadine grew up in a military family and has a passion for helping out local vets. As with many things in life, often we take one path not knowing where it will lead us. Nadine's path began at AmeriCorps where she worked with veterans to help them gain access to their benefits. She soon realized that there was often a long and difficult path for veteran's to navigate the complicated bureaucracy of government offices. The organization provides everything from shelter to mental health resources to local veterans. We discuss how the system can be overwhelming for many of them and why some end up on the streets.
