In this episode, I'm joined by Vanessa Lyons, CEO of ThinkNewsBrands, to talk about how she navigated her way from a career in Marketing to becoming a CEO.Starting her career as a Product Marketer at Phillips was, in hindsight, pivotal, not only because of the highly commercial nature of the role but also because of the broader global roles she was able to take on. What did she learn from roles based in China and New Zealand, and what lessons did she take from an early mistake? How did working in large corporates and a redundancy help to refine what came next? Why the intentional move to work for smaller businesses, and how did she make the shift to take on broader business management roles outside of the traditional Marketing remit? What has she learned from this, and what advice does she have for other Marketers who want to do a similar thing?Vanessa and I also talked about our experiences with cancer and what we've both learnt from it, which is a far more entertaining and uplifting conversation than it sounds! How has it changed Vanessa's approach to work/life balance and what it meant for finding meaning and purpose in her work?Vanessa is a real powerhouse, and it's clear throughout our conversation how intentional she has been with her decision making and her career journey. GUEST: CPA, Entrepreneur & Bestselling Author - Mel Abraham Mel Abraham is BACK! Since this is his THIRD time on DTD… you probably remember that Mel is a CPA by education… but an entrepreneur by exhilaration. Mel is a guy I trust… especially when it comes to talking about finances and money! So… when I saw he had a brand new book coming out… I said, “Brother… we've got to have you back on the show to talk about this!” The book is called, “Building Your Money Machine: How to Get Your Money to Work Harder for You Than You Did for It!” What I love about this concept is… Mel is not just teaching you how to save money or just get out of debt. Those are good things and they're in the book… but he's talking about practical ways that you can make money work FOR you! And… he's unbiased from the standpoint… he's not selling a specific financial product. His only bias is that he feels that "financial freedom is your birthright.” So THAT is his bias. I should also mention that Mel TOTALLY married up… and he gets to travel and live life with his amazing bride Stefanie and their Sheepadoodles… Budo & Sampson! He's a proud dad and grandpa… he's an accomplished martial artist… and he's a true teacher… so I'm so glad to have him BACK on DTD… so let's get to this! So… I created THIS episode to answer your questions, to help you to find the opportunities and most specifically… to help you to GET STARTED! Now… if you're not sure about having a podcast… I'd still encourage you to check out this episode because I give a “State of the Union” on the podcasting world… and I share some data you can wow your friends with! But I also share about why NOW is a great time to jump in the wild and fun world of Podcasting! Seriously… come on it… the water (the blue ocean… specifically) is FINE! Stats show that there are about 4.3 million according to Podcast Index and 3.2 million according to ListenNotes). LOOKING BACK: There were approx. 203,000 new podcasts released in 2018 In 2019… that figure jumped to almost 337,000 THEN…2020 brought over 1,000,000 new podcasts In 2021… about 740,000 In 2022… 244,000 In 2023… 212,000 THAT'S STILL A BIG NUMBER UNTIL YOU SEE THIS: Almost half (44%) of podcasts have less than 3 episodes! Only about 20 to 25% (720k) podcasts have more than 10 episodes. And… of those… ONLY ABOUT 25% (156k) release a weekly episode. PODCASTING is a “BLUE OCEAN” OPPORTUNITY: Here's the article that Mitch was talking about from the Harvard Business Review about the “Blue Ocean” concept: hbr.org/2004/10/blue-ocean-strategy Again… the “Blue Ocean Strategy” is a book written by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne. The idea is a “red ocean” is an existing market with many competitors, where a blue ocean is a market yet to be discovered… or that's newly discovered… with no competitors or fewer competitors! According to Kim and Mauborgne… “In blue oceans, demand is created rather than fought over. There is ample opportunity for growth that is both profitable and rapid.” And if you compare podcasting to youtube… there are plenty of podcasts… but “blue ocean” opportunities lean towards rocking the mic with a podcast! NOW…I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU: So… how about YOU? What questions (big or small) do YOU have about the podcasting world… and/or starting your own podcast? Leave a comment below and let us know! I'll get back to you! And seriously… we'd LOVE to hear from YOU!!! Let's do this! Minute By Minute: 00:02 Welcome back! Life Recipes for Wholeness, Presence, Connection and Harmony
116. Creating time for the Sacred The quality of our life is in the quality of the moments. This season of Advent helps us prepare for Christmas, the birth of Jesus and the rebirth of that light and love awakened in us. Creating time to awaken and strengthen your spirit helps you bring forth the divine attributes that are within you strengthening you. These attributes are Faith, Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy. Within all of us, we just have to tap in and step forth. Being in the sacred, the stillness, whatever it is for you that helps you feel full and whole, make time for it. So you can be your whole, loving self as you were created. If you bring everything into everything we enjoy nothing. Be responsible for the energy you bring. What is Sacred for you? Sacred can be a treasure, a warmth, a mystery, a light, and a profound refuge, and awareness to the presence of spirit. Sacred is a special word. What in your life is sacred? What is sacred that I have lost sight of? It's up to you to raise your consciousness and be your best so you bring forth the dreams you have in your heart. "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." - Harriet Tubman --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/life-recipes/support

After a breast cancer diagnosis, the most common thoughts we go to are what's safe to eat and how to exercise more. Yet, when I ask other survivors why they think they got cancer, most will tell me it was a toxic personal or professional relationship that made them sick. Relationships and emotional wellness are a huge part of our lives and they have a huge impact on our health. So, why do we downplay the effect that toxic relationships have on us and how do we learn to create and honor healthy boundaries without judging ourselves? In this episode, I'll dig into this very topic, and I think you'll walk away feeling a lot better about taking care of yourself without feeling guilty about it. Jen of This Time of Mine talks about the value of family meals Episode 1846: Family Meals: Why They're Still As Important As Ever by Jen of This Time of Mine on Creating Time With Your Family Jen is a busy mom to four energetic kids and between taking care of them, running the household and trying to keep up with everything else she does and enjoys, she's often found herself fantasizing about the moment she can finally sit down for the night. But through it all, she's found that she's happiest when she's intentional in her approach. And even though it's not always easy, she knows when she parents and lives her life on purpose, that's when she can make the biggest difference for her children. She founded This Time Of Mine to use as a platform to teach as many parents as will listen. She wants to meet you where you are and help you fall in love with parenting all over again. Because she knows how hard it can be. She also knows that when we learn to parent and live with intention, we can create more good times than bad. We can help our children WANT to do what's right. And we can become the role model that walks along beside them. Is your life turning into a junk drawer? Learn how to create time and space by leaving margin in your life so that you have time to do what really matters!
Do we have friends outside of our family? Do we have church friends? Do we have community? If so, how do we allocate our time accordingly with friends and family? How do we protect our home, but still be a part of the community? Is there some hospitality linked in there? We have gotten these questions more and more since we have spoken on family. We are clearly advocates of family time. Our interaction with family, whether that be immediate family outside our home, in-laws, our children, and each other, are the highlights and the things that we choose to talk about on this channel. It might sound a little cloistered or people wonder how do we have friendships outside of those familial bonds. We thought it would be fun to share and go through a week/month and share the things that keep us engaged with our church community and local friends and how that looks like in the midst of our every day life. Our church has facilitated a lot of relational growth for us. I think there is a biblical obligation to the local church body. We are supposed to be there for one another, but I also think there needs to be wisdom for each individual and what that looks like for them, their capacity and bandwidth for their home. It's about tending first to your primary commitments. You need to look first and foremost to your marriage and to the well-being of your children. We love everything we get to do right now. Our families get to visit and we are grateful for that. People are coming through town all the time. We get to stay in touch and have fun with them. We go on roadtrips to visit them as well. Our week in and week out friendships are so great! We are richly blessed by the friends in our life right now. God is really really gracious in that area.Mentioned in the podcast: - "Mom Friends: Finding Them, and Creating Time to Spend with Them" - https://www.nowthatwereafamily.com/blog/mom-friends-finding-them-and-creating-time-to-spend-with-them - Top 5 Tuesday Join our weekly email list to keep up to date with the highlights of what is going on in our family life.https://www.nowthatwereafamily.com/top-5-tuesday-newletter- Looking for more Now That We're A Family resources? On this episode of Broker to Broker, host JP Hussey is joined by a master of pipeline management and relationship building, CEO/Broker of EZ Fundings Home Loans, Tano Kapedani! Tano has been in the wholesale mortgage business for over 20 years. As an expert on delegation, Tano shares how to properly prioritize your own time. He's honed and prioritized his brokerage's structure to get the absolute most out of his precious time as a producing owner. What does Tano do with that time he's earned back? He's focusing on building strong relationships. Tano has made EZ Fundings massively successful because he's learned how to effectively build relationships with peers and clients over his 2 decades in the industry.“I promise you this: 20 good relationships are better than 5000 likes. I don't care if everybody knows me or not. What I care about is how the results are aligned with my efforts. Am I getting what I'm putting in? Am I influencing and accomplishing what I want to do? Am I changing the lives of people I'm meeting? This is what I care about.” Tano passes on how to both make time to form relationships, and the steps to building strong relationships. “Make sure that you create relationships so strong, that those you work with would be embarrassed to even consider working with somebody else.” Key Points: 2:02 The 2023 Housing Market, West to East Coast 7:14 The Differences over 20 Years in the Industry 12:23 Serving your Pipeline by Eliminating the Unknown 18:01 Setting the Schedule to Run a Brokerage 22:41 Own what You're Doing in Policies & Procedures 31:20 Delegation of Tasks, Paying to Save Yourself Time 39:43 20 Relationships over 5,000 likes- Becoming the Broker you Want to Be This episode is sponsored by PRMG
Marriage is not just about two people living together. When you're married, you don't have a housemate, you have a partner that you have made a commitment to. Not just to provide for or take care of, your commitment also has to do with who you are and who you become. Constant personal evolution and growth is a must. For the first couple years of our marriage, I wasnt following those rules. In my mind, because I was providing financially at a high level and we were living a great life, thats all the contribution that was necessary. Yeah, I was a fucking failure as a husband and then the day came when Mere had enough. She gave me an ultimatum that hit me square between the eyes. It broke me and knocked me onto a course of deep level personal growth and development. The fact that not only was I replaceable in my marriage, I also realized that like most men, I was also replaceable as a leader in my business, as a professional and sadly, as a father. Everything changed when the fear of her being with someone else kicked in and I would have let her go knowing that I could have done something however I remained selfish and in my ego. It was beyone fear, I felt and sensed the immense regret I would feel later on in life knowing that I had the chance to make it better and didnt. So the first commitment was to me, to put me first in a serving way and focus on my growth while I learned about what she needed and who she needed me to be. In this special episode, my wife (Meredith) and I put everything on the table and talk about our relationship from the beginning. We are vulnerable and honest about the ins and outs of our marriage in hopes of helping every man out there to transform into their best selves and finally become The Irreplaceable Man & Husband that they need to be, the one their wives want to be with and the one their wives will never leave.. Yes, brother, its all on you! Now that we have switched over to The Irreplaceable Man podcast, you can expect 2x episodes a month with Meredith and I digging into a new topic that stop marriages from being amazing and stop men from being irreplaceable.
