Though the First Amendment’s command that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” is straightforward, the Supreme Court’s Establishment Clause jurisprudence is anything but clear. To determine if a government action amounts to an establishment of religion, the Supreme Court has developed a number of tests looking for excessive entanglement, endorsement, or coercion, to name a few, that are inconsistently applied. When it comes to the constitutionality of passive displays on government property, such as the Ten Commandments, Christmas decorations, and war memorials with crosses, the lower courts are divided about how and when to apply the various tests, leading to unpredictable results. In The American Legion v. American Humanist Association, the Supreme Court has been asked to review the constitutionality of a 93-year-old World War I memorial in Bladensburg, Maryland that includes a 40-foot cross. Will the Supreme Court seize the opportunity to bring much-needed clarity to its Establishment Clause jurisprudence? What impact could a broad ruling have on religion in America? Sneha Anne Philip was a thirty-one year old medical student in the final year of her residency. The year prior, she had married her med-school sweetheart and the two were now living in an apartment in Battery Park City. While on the surface, everything seemed to be moving along smoothly, a dark shadow of rumor and legal trouble was beginning to veil her life. Sneha was removed from her previous residency program under accusations of being late and alcohol related issues. She filed a police report alleged sexual assault by one of her co-workers, though the District Attorney would later charge Sneha with filing a false report. In the midst of the chaos, Sneha was alleged to have been engaging in extramarital affairs and her struggle with alcohol resulted in her suspension from her new residency. On the morning of September 10th, 2001, Sneha plead not guilty after refusing to recant her statement and have all charges dropped. That afternoon she spoke to her mother for several hours, and was last seen on surveillance cameras shopping at a nearby department store. This would be the last confirmed sighting, and in the utter devastation and tragedy of the terror attacks of September 11th, Sneha appeared to have vanished into thin air. News out today is creating some drama in the currency market. U.S. exports continue to grow adding to the risk that America may be joining the currency wars.If you're a regular listener to this show that should come as no shock to you. We've been talking about the rather precarious situation the U.S. is in right now and the very real risk that we might see additional action by the Fed to keep America's strengthening dollar in check.I also spend some time today talking about the Oregon shooting. If you remember I spent a lot of time a couple days ago talking it there from the perspective of protecting individual sovereignty but today I want to approach it from the perspective of desired outcome. Would reducing gun ownership reduce crime? Not, would it reduce gun crime. If you took away all the guns you would most definitely see a reduction in gun crime. But would it stop the mass killings and violence we've seen in recent years from active shooters in schools and on college campuses? All that and a brief discussion on the labor unions in California who are trying to get an exemption for the $15/hr minimum wage hike that advocated for. It truly is criminal.JasonSupport the show.

Her sons were diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called PANDAS or PANS. Kathleen had learned about GMOs, but never made the link between her children's health and possible side effects of eating this chemical laden food. When Kathleen learned from a farmer that livestock often suffer from similar issues, and that their health improves when taken off of Genetically Modified feed, she decided to change her family's diet to organic to see what happened. Sure enough, their health improved. She is now spreading the word among parents and the nation about GMOs so that people can get educated about this subject and improve the health of their families, too. She co-founded Moms Across America with Zen Honeycutt to plan a massive educational campaign to get the word out to everyone at parades across the nation on July 4. Supporters of GMO labeling will march in parades holding banners and passing out flyers so that everyone can learn about just what GMOs are, and to ask for labeling.
