Amy wears many hats. She is a ghostwriter, content creator, author and in a way a great life coach. She also has some amazing personal beliefs on goal setting and education. We talked a lot about her favorite things. Communication, storytelling, writing, creativity, emotional intelligence, leadership, and human behavior fueled a lot of our discussions. On this episode of The Just Keep Learning Podcast, we talked about podcasting, productivity, business tips, nutrition and mindset. Interestingly we had a conversation about what it means to be a badass. Badass, in a good way means being slow to anger, increasing confidence and pursuing your best, most authentic self.In many ways, the conversation was rooted in common sense. If you don't know what you want to do, try something. If you know what you want to do, decide on the next step and do it. Understand what your message is, who you serve, and how you can reach them. Focus on surrounding yourself with people who want to see you succeed and spend less time with the people that aren't helpful.Since her main professional success path took her into the field of freelance writing, ghostwriting and becoming an author, we were able to talk about how to succeed as a writer. How do you get started without needing permission? How do you make progress to the point where you can get paid to publish your writing? One of the best discussions in the episode was about whether or not people should monetize their audience, or simply create the content for free. Ultimately, Amy provided great reasons as to how we can really do both. And it starts with knowing the difference between serving and selling. We can create a ton of free content that truly delivers value. Not because it's part of a funnel, or marketing plan, but because it actually helps. And then, we can also share the fact that we have a product, or service that can really help people out there. When asked for her number one piece of advice for people, she provides a very helpful answer. She wanted to tell people to stop hiding. Step out into who you're meant to be, stop being passive in your own life. You know? Stop hiding, get out there and just start, right? Just try! The real-world learning that comes from actual experience is as important as anything we could ever learn in a textbook.12 Steps To Own Your Dream CareerWhat you end up doing as a job, or a career may not even exist, or at least it will evolve. You could create something brand new.  When it comes to a “career”, you may also pivot a bunch of times. Either way, it all starts with some self-awareness.The first question is what do you want? If you don't know, don't be afraid to try things out quickly. It's better to learn sooner than later, and not spend decades in a career that you don't like.Create a roadmap that could get you there, realizing it will change.Identify your purpose for doing this, “your why”, so you can stay motivated in tough times.Test it out, have conversations, ask for feedback, create surveys and discussions on forums, or groups. See if there is any interest for what you might create. There's no downside other than learning that maybe it's not the right time or it's not the right type of career for you.Don't stay a secret. Set up your site, and profiles with clarity. When you share on a social platform, people will click back. They want to know who's putting out this content. If they search and your work is confusing you will lose them.Start building your portfolio before getting permission to publish. No one can stop you from creating content. If you haven't published anything, people won't be able to reference your work. So start creating in that medium before people are willing to pay you for it.Own it. You can say you are a musician, writer, or painter, whatever. Once you are doing it, speak it in the present tense. Don't say I want to be, say I am.Take an audit of your network. Relationships are the most important thing. Investing in relationships will lead to opportunities and efficiency in your life. All it means is being trustworthy, honoring your word, and putting service first.Take an audit of your time. It's the most important thing to protect. How are you using your time effectively and continually improving habits to support your goal? It won't be perfect, but over time you will get more and more efficient.Know your target audience. Who are you speaking to? What do they need? What do you want to say to them? Where are they? Create for them, where they are and before long you'll have a community building. When it comes to making money, focus on a few things you do well. What are your core offerings and how can you make it crystal clear to others? You want the reputation of your products, and services to be clear so people know why to hire you.Feel free to ask for referrals, reviews and testimonials. Careers and businesses are built through trust and reputation.Memorable Quotes“Some people will say they're successful because they made a lot of money. That's great, but it's not in the long run going to fulfill you.”“A leader isn't dictated by title. Everyone is a leader. Everyone can be a leader. Regardless of age, experience, or job title. It's really how you move through the world. If you step up, speak out and speak your truth, everyone has the capacity for leadership.”“You not using your talents at their highest and best use is depriving the world of something. You not doing that can actually be selfish because the world needs what you've got. You're the sum of your experiences, and everything can contribute to this world in a unique way.Guest BioOur guest today has a ton of experience in building business, content creation and writing. She's published thousands of articles on LinkedIn, Thrive Global, Medium, and Forbes. If we had to identify two of her top strengths, one would be storytelling, and the other career decision making. When it comes to storytelling, she is an expert at helping leaders craft their stories, so they can communicate better. Working with clients, she helps them expand their reach and impact. She is also excellent at creating content and writing for other people. Through the art of ghostwriting, she helps those that struggle with marketing to show up how it will serve them best. She is also incredible when it comes to career decision-making. Amy Blaschka is a contributor to Forbes.com and a social media ghost writer launched her own email newsletter, Illuminate Me this year. She shares how she got started and why she chose a specific tool for her email newsletter. Plus she talks about the specific workflow she uses to write her newsletter each week.Key Points From This Episode: Amy started her email newsletter to have some fun and because she can connect directly and that someone is willingly allowing you into their inbox. It took her a while to start a newsletter because she had seen so many bad newsletters and she wanted to do something that reflected her values and talent.  She does not charge for her newsletter because she wants to get to know her audience a little more and to plant the seed to give herself options for the future. Amy chose Sub Stack as a platform because she has the option to convert it to a paid newsletter or to keep it free. She feels like her work with her newsletter, her contributions as a writer for Forbes and social media are all interconnected and she is intentional about creating this connection. Amy sends her newsletter every Sunday morning and she always points people back to her Forbes article and something that will showcase the same theme in a different way. She maps them out a month ahead. She believes If anybody is looking to up kind of their level of content, make sure there's one clear takeaway, you know, and that brief is better.Amy shares her view on being present on several different platforms. Tweetables: I think what's special about email is there's an intimacy, that you are one-to-one with your audience. So you're sending something that lands directly in their inbox. If somebody signs up for your newsletter, they actually want to hear from you. @AmyBlaschka (01:34)I feel like you need to establish yourself, your credibility, your competency, your value to somebody before you have any ask of them. @AmyBlaschka (07:27)I know people that have paid ones and, you know, I think you're going to have a smaller list because you're asking people to fork over money right. For that. But, you know, I think before you can do that, you have to demonstrate your value. @AmyBlaschka (11:43)  If anybody is looking to up kind of their level of content, I would say, we'll make sure there's one clear takeaway, you know, and that brief is better.  @AmyBlaschka (18:12) Links Mentioned in this Episode:Illuminate Me NewlsetterAmy Blaschka on LinkedInAmy Blaschka on TwitterAmy Blaschka on InstagramAmyBlaschka.comSubstackForbes.com

She’s a social media ghostwriter who helps leaders craft their stories to communicate and connect better by magnifying their reach and impact. (Think personal branding and thought leadership.) A longtime Leadership Contributor for Forbes, She regularly shares content through her popular “Illuminate Me” newsletter and active social media channels. - Her journey into helping busy CEO’s and Entrepreneurs stand out as thought leaders in their industries via Social Media Contents. - Branding is about feeling, a brand is an emotional connection, it is about how you make others feel and what they think about you. - We are wired as human beings to want to hear stories. To listen to stories, to be kind of drawn in by stories. - If you want to get someone’s attention, if you want to be memorable, use stories to do it. - Stories could be not just about happy things, it could be also about a time you overcame adversity. - Storytelling is a way to communicate and connect better on a more personal level. - You have to be comfortable about what you share on social media. - When you are clear about what you do and don’t do, you will attract the right people. - You lead with one offering; you lead with what you are best at. - When you niche down, you are messaging and advertising to people that do need what you have to offer. - Protect your time; it is the most important thing to block out for what is most important for you. - Put in non-negotiable time for what matters most to you and then work around the rest of the time. Have you ever wondered how you could leverage your incredible online professional network to improve your face-to-face business and community? Or what would happen if you built and nurture your online network to benefit your offline life too? These are just a few reasons why Sarah Elkins decided to tear down the barriers between online and offline and connecting beyond the keyboard. At this year's No Longer Virtual (NLV) event, Sarah Elkins once again revealed that her secret power was getting people to do things they wouldn't usually do. As the world went crazy and travel bans became the norm, I hopped don a plane to travel 3,700 miles to connect beyond the keyboard in Chicago. NLV enables a group of people from all over the world to connect beyond the keyboard. As someone who is passionate about sharing and learning from the stories of others on my podcast, it was easy to see why I was so attracted to the event. I wanted to try and capture why so many people traveled far and wide to attend NLV 2020. Listen to this year's attendees who share why they attended and ensured that NLV wouldn't be just another canceled event in 2020. I learn how Sarah took a significant risk and faced the pressure of planning an event with international attendees in her stride. But, filling a room of people that intimately shared their stories of success and failures to learn from each other is genuinely priceless. Amy Blaschka, Heather Younger, Melissa Hughes, Kevin Strauss, Arlene Mendoza & Hannah Bratterud also share what NLV means to them. As someone that covers many tech events and attends conferences all over the world, it was being surrounded by these eclectic, smart, talented, open, and fun people that left me feeling both inspired and empowered. Maybe, you would like to join me at next year's No Longer Virtual, where I will be the guy with the big beaming smile excited to be once again, sharing and learning from the shared paths, journies, and stories of my online connections.

Ghostwriting with Amy Blaschka If you aren't energised by Amy Blaschka, you may have taken up residence in a cemetery. She discusses ghostwriting on The Next 100 Days podcast and does so in such a vibrant, full-on way. Sit back and enjoy!! What is a Ghostwriter? http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Amy-Blaschka-Ghostwriting.mp4 Amy focuses on social media ghostwriting. Sometimes for executives who are good verbally, not so much written. Others don't have the bandwidth to do social media posts. You can ghostwrite just about anything. Speeches, for instance. We all have limited time. So what is most important? A Good Storyteller At heart, communicating is really about connecting with others. You won't connect, if you are hitting them over their heads with a sales message. Right? People block those types of commercial communications out of their lives. The best way to communicate is with EMOTION. One of the easiest ways to evoke emotion is to share a story. Stories make us more relatable. Everybody loves a story. What endears you to people is sharing stories that DIDN'T GO TO PLAN. It's only a failure if you fail to learn. Show you are imperfect, what insight can you share. People feel that empathy. From the aha moment you impart. That's about making a human connection. And stories tend to follow a predictable path. Hero, Overcoming an obstacle. Tug at the heart-strings. Your Job Title Isn't YOU! http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Human.mp4 Want a story idea? Don't let your job title or job role get in the way. How does Amy go about ghostwriting? http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/What-to-write-about.mp4 Amy's best skill is listening. She relies on their spoken voice. To them getting quieter or louder. Or they get excited, she'll use these different voice cadences to inform her writing. Amy is the person who you sit next to on the aeroplane and listens to your story. She "geeks out" on that stuff. ONE IDEA POSTS So, Amy chats to her clients once a week. This generates ideas for the posts she'll do on the client's behalf. From a 30-45 minutes meeting, Amy takes notes to identify a central idea. That can be really challenging to folks, because they have so much to say. But, just keep the post to ONE THING. Clarity in your messaging, helps other people get you. Serve Don't Sell First, provide value. Appeal to their emotion. Solve a problem. Make them think. This is what works best. Establish trust and provide value. Are you showing what you stand for? Amy Blaschka's Book is called I AM Amy write a book with Bruce Kasonoff (an influencer on LinkedIn). Buy the book on Amazon: It's a series of passages that Bruce and Amy took turns writing. The idea is write something that when someone reads it is uplifting to the reader. The book, every other page, starts I Am. The opposite page is blank and gives you a chance to write it down. To unlock your own creativity. The book helps people getting out of their fug. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Negativity.mp4 The book is not sequential. Flip it open, and start thinking from there. Amy is Always On She sees connections in everything. An expressive person. Her husband and her work out each morning. She tries to walk the dog, Rigby, to the park. It helps her reset. All that people contact, helps her get the technology out of her day. Her favourite movie is The Usual Suspects... She likes the reveals at the end, plus for the clever story, and surprised. Graham says Amy is the Friday at 5pm Girl. A warm up girl for the world. Tip Length of Post Article - 500-700 words Updates - 200 words Publish once a week at least. Be concise and easily digestible. Contact Amy LinkedIn: Amy Blaschka Amy's client's come from all round the world and across America. The type of writing is in the client's tone of voice.

Quote/Excerpt: “…I believe that what you see is what you get, or at least it should be. With Amy, you may find out some dirt about Amy – nobody’s perfect. I’m OK putting myself out there, because when I’ve done that, at least on LinkedIn, people come forward. They connect with that. They understand that as much as you want to put this beautiful, dazzling, perfect image out there, none of us are perfect – and that’s OK. That’s OK.” Intro Today my very special guest is Amy Blaschka. Amy is a branding and positioning expert who creates highly engaging content for her clients. She helps companies, as well as career professionals, position themselves for success. She helps her clients transform the way they communicate and connect. In this episode we talked about about personal branding and the value of genuine relationships that lead to referrals. If you want to learn how to grow your business through these channels, listen and enjoy. Take your relationships offline “You’re in sales, we’re all in sales. It’s really about relationships. Even though we all had very strong virtual relationships, there’s nothing like meeting face-to-face. There’s nothing like spending time together in person.” On putting yourself out there That was about the time that LinkedIn came forward and offered the ability to write. At first it was more cathartic. It was, I’m going through this, I don’t know, did anybody even read it? I’m putting it out there – who will even see this? But over time, I realized it was a way to connect with people. That there were folks out there that would read something and it would resonate with them. What do you write about?           “I tend to write the way I speak. Very conversational, and I try to pick themes that are personal to me because I think it’s best when you write about something that is meaningful to you. I mean, I can write about anything, but really, it’s going to be more meaningful if it’s something that’s personal. A lot of folks shy away from that, but I believe that what you see is what you get, or at least it should be. With Amy, you may find out some dirt about Amy – nobody’s perfect. I’m OK putting myself out there because when I’ve done that, at least on LinkedIn, people come forward. They connect with that. They understand that as much as you want to put this beautiful, dazzling, perfect image out there, none of us are perfect – and that’s OK. That’s OK.” Amy’s ideal client I would say somebody that has a good idea of who they are and what they want to be, but they’re having trouble articulating that.   Mentions Connect with Amy Blaschka on LinkedIn and Twitter.
