Thank you so much for being here for the 100th meditation! That makes almost 2 years and over 24 hours of meditating on God's Word!! With that, there are changes coming and weekly meditations will not be released here until further notice (although I may post a new meditation here and there). ỌMỌLÚÀBÍ PODCAST | EPISODE 014 PROVERB CONSIDERED: "Bí èèyàn-án bá ṣeun ká sọ pé ó ṣeun; bí èèyàn-án bá ṣèèyàn ká sọ pé ó ṣèèyàn; nítorípé, ohun tí a ṣe, ó yẹ kó gbeni." INTERPRETATION: "If a person deserves gratitude, we should acknowledge that he deserves gratitude; if a person is kindly, we should acknowledge that he is kindly, because we all ought to reap the rewards of our actions." MEANING: The idea is simply that we should readily acknowledge and accord gratitude to those who are due of it. We emphasised the need for us to include such phrases like "Thank You" in our default day-to-day language and the need to be immediate in our show of gratitude (like the Good Samaritan did not delay in showing love to the wonder Jewish man he helped in spite of the rift that had been between Samaritans and Jews for many generations.) BIBLICAL APPLICATION 1 Timothy 5:17-18 MSG says "Give a bonus to leaders who do a good job, especially the ones who work hard at preaching and teaching. Scripture tells us, “Don't muzzle a working ox” and “A worker deserves his pay.”" Here, Paul stresses the need for us to give "double honour" to those who God is using to teach us God's Word and lead us in the things of God, thus facilitating our growth. By being good at what they do, such pastors and leaders deserve an intentional show of (double) honour from us to them, and God will bless us as we do so.

Application is something good Bible readers and teachers do instinctively but may have a hard time explaining. A method needs to be distilled from their work so the rest of us learn to do it well, too. Dan Doriani has done this distilling in an excellent book: Putting the Truth to Work: The Theory and Practice of Biblical Application.

Last week, over 2500 Christian leaders, university presidents, magazine editors and pastors signed "A Christian Statement on Science for Pandemic Times." They said, "because of our faith in Jesus Christ, we will: wear masks, correct misinformation and get vaccinated," among other things. But is it "Christ-like" to manipulate fellow Believers using Scripture to mandate a vaccine? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/heidistjohn/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/heidistjohn/support

Rachel Held Evans passed away last week. Most known for her NY Times bestseller "A Year of Biblical Womanhood" , Rachel spent a year living out the commandments of the New and Old Testament Commandments directed towards women. Rachel did all this tongue-in-cheek of course, but it does demonstrate how important it is to correctly interpret and apply the Scripture to our lives. Join us as we unpack the importance of Biblical Application.
This sermon emphasizes the importance of practical application of the Word as it relates to growing towards maturity.
