Detroit, and Michigan, sports are going through a tough time right now, and unfortunately the Detroit Red Wings are at the center of that. Tune in as we begin by discussing the Red Wings' 6-3 loss to Nikita Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning, including strong play from Michael Rasmussen & J.T. Compher, poor play and turnovers after a Gibson save from Simon Edvinsson & Moritz Seider, Johansson and Bernard-Docker getting beat on defense, and more in a frustrating game for Todd McLellan's squad (3:40). Next, Detroit's shootout loss to Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins, including Kastelic's mismatch fight where Moritz Seider got dropped, our thoughts on the response from Ben Chiarot but not too many other Red Wings, Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, and others contributing offensively, & Detroit being too slow to pick things up in the loss (12:10). After that, Dylan Larkin and Todd McLellan's comments about effort, care, and overthinking the game, and how that's affecting players like Marco Kasper, Patrick Kane, Nate Danielson, Alex DeBrincat, and Emmitt Finnie (25:50). We then take a look at the NHL & Atlantic Division standings, Steve Yzerman's team's December outlook, and what can be done to maintain standing in the tight playoff race - can Cam Talbot and John Gibson start providing more support in net? (39:10) After that, an update on the Detroit Red Wings prospect pipeline, including notes on Sebastian Cossa (will Yzerman call him up at some point?), Trey Augustine, Max Plante, Carter Bear, Jesse Kiiskinen, & more Hockeytown hopefuls (53:45). All of that & lots more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (56:50) - enjoy! The Red Sox still need a number 2 starter after acquiring Sonny Gray, but do we trust the team to bring in an elite arm this offseason? How will they address their lineup which lacked power after the Rafael Devers trade? We give our holiday wishlists for all four Boston sports teams?
Coming off the holiday, Jaffe and Razor address all the minor issues with the Bruins including minor injuries and penalties, and how the Bruins don't panic despite being outshot in past games and finally they look ahead to tonight's game against the Detroit Redwings.
Will depth be an issue for the Patriots after key players have gone down with injuries? Will Bill Belichick return to the NFL? Have the Celtics figured things out after a slow start?

Send us a textIn this episode of Leave Your Mark, I'm honoured to welcome one of the most iconic defenders in NHL history — Zdeno Chara.Zdeno, born in Slovakia, played 24 seasons in the National Hockey League with the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, and Washington Capitals. Standing at 6'9", “Big Zee” is the tallest player ever to compete in the league — but his impact stretched far beyond physical stature. As Captain of the Boston Bruins for 14 seasons, Zdeno led with humility, discipline, and purpose. He won the Norris Trophy in 2009, appeared in three Stanley Cup Finals, and raised the Cup in 2011 — becoming one of only five European-born captains to ever do so. Over 1,600 NHL games, he built a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and a relentless work ethic.Internationally, he represented Slovakia with pride, earning two silver medals at the World Championships. In 2022, he retired as a Boston Bruin and will have his number, 33, raised to the rafters in January 2026. Most recently, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.Beyond the accolades, Zdeno is a devoted husband to Tatiana and a father to three young children — and in this conversation, he opens up about leadership, resilience, growth, family, and what it means to evolve beyond the game. This is a special one. In the third of the NHL Wraparound Celebrity Series, Neil and Vic welcome three-time Super Bowl champion placekicker with the New England Patriots Stephen Gostkowski to the show. The four-time Pro Bowler and Patriots all-time scoring leader covers a range of topics from his early days or an athlete, to playing under Bill Belichick and with Tom Brady to life after football.Gostkowski even mixes in a little hockey as a young fan of the Buffalo Sabres and, more recently, the Boston Bruins.IN THIS EPISODE:[01:49] - Neil welcomes Stephen Gostkowski to the show. Gostkowski shares how he got into placekicking as well as the uniqueness of the position where the participation in a game is brief but, often, very noticeable. Simply, the life of a kicker.[06:47] - Given the apparent isolation for a kicker, Stephen shares who he bonded with during the course of his career.[10:20] - The expectations succeeding Adam Vinatieri, a kicker who had carved his niche in NFL lore with four Super Bowl wins (three with New England) including some of the great clutch kicks in league history.[13:16] - The relationship with head coach Bill Belichick.[15:33] - Gostkowski's interesting take on why there's likely no coaching comparable in hockey, baseball or basketball to Belichick.[17:29] - How 'bout Tom Brady?[20:33] - Born in Louisiana and spending some early years in Buffalo, Gostkowski laced skates up at an early age and even suffered a casualty quite common to NHL players. However, any thoughts of playing hockey were erased by a move to Mississippi and played a significant role in Stephen eventually playing football.[22:43] - A fan of the Sabres growing up, Stephen still recalls the heartbreak of the 1999 "Toe in the Crease" controversy which delivered the Stanley Cup to Dallas. Since coming to the New England area almost two decades ago, his team allegiance has shifted as he's gotten to know some of the Bruins players.[24:51] - Remaining a fan of the team Stephen made his mark with. [26:18] - Thoughtful dialogue about transitioning from pro sports back to a "normal life." It's something Gostkowski had to adjust to and an area he wants to be able to assist others with.[31:17] - The deeper dive of the transition is the locker room/team environment being replaced family life and other activities which can be fulfilling, albeit not on a competitive level. Stephen adds a bucket list item for himself.[35:49] - After investing so much in himself, Gostkowski was recognized in March...and just might be again in 2026...Website: www.nhlwraparound.comX: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #NHLWraparound.com #ShortShifts #NYCentric #CelebritySeries #HallofFameEdition #StanleyCupdate #SummerCoolers #Smith'sPix #NeilSmith #VicMorren #PatrickHoffman #NHL #SummerCoolers #BobbyValentine #ChrisChelios #StephenGostkowski #NewEnglandPatriots #TedyBruschi #AdamVinatieri #BillBelichick #NorthCarolinaTarheels #TomBrady #WayneGretzky #MichaelJordan #LeBronJames #DerekJeter #KobeBryant #AlexanderMogilny #PatLafontaine #RobRay #DominikHasek #MikeVrabel #AlexeiKovalev #CraigWolanin #NationalAmericanPolishSportsHallofFame #ProFootballHallofFame #PatrickChung
Welcome to the DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor and Jeff Marek! We start the show with Mikko Rantanen, who is under fire after another questionable hit that has landed him a mandatory one-game suspension. Is one game too few for the Stars forward?Patrick Roy was livid after the Rantanen hit on Alexander Romanov. Should a coach be yelling at an opposing player after a controversial play?Winnipeg is without their Vezina goaltender, Connor Hellebuyck, and the teams behind them in the Central are pouncing on the opportunity to take advantage of a wounded Jets team. How high is the concern level in Winnipeg?Talking about the Central, the Minnesota Wild are getting sensational goaltending from Jesper Wallstedt and Filip Gustavsson, with back-to-back shutouts, and an 8-1-1 record in their last ten, which has shot them up to third in the division. The line of Matt Boldy, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Marcus Johansson has been stellar on both ends of the ice, prompting Gregor to say they might be the best line in hockey right now.The Colorado Avalanche are off to an incredible start, with only one regulation loss over their first 22 games. Mackenzie Blackwood is back from injury, and Scott Wedgewood has been exceptional in his absence. The goaltending tandem have back-to-back shutouts for the NHL's top team, but who is the MVP for the Avalanche this year? Marek gives an answer you might not expect. There have been plenty of surprises this season, and the Boston Bruins have the leading scorer in the NHL. You may not think this is surprising, as David Pastrnak is a top scorer in the league, but what if we told you he was tied with teammate Morgan Geekie!? Geekie has found his footing in his role on the Bruins and is enjoying the best start to a season in his NHL career. The Buffalo Sabres looked destined for the bottom of the standings again but have won four of their last five and have crept out of the cellar of the Atlantic. Are the Sabres finally putting it together and turning a corner to challenge for a Wildcard spot over a top lottery slot?On the other hand, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been struggling and now reside in last place in the Eastern Conference. What needs to change in Leaf Land?Gregor asks if Marek would take Celebrini or Bedard on the Olympic team if he could only take one of the two young stars. If you had to choose, who would you pick?Lastly, the report from the NHL on the Olympic rink came back, and the dimensions of the ice are not what were expected. The players won't be playing on Olympic- or NHL-sized ice, as the Olympic rink will be smaller than an NHL rink. With a one-hour show and the Patriots idle over the weekend, it was an opportunity to evaluate the rest of the NFL and what stands out are the Chiefs currently not in a playoff spot. Why do the Pats seem like the team who'd benefit the most from a postseason run without Kansas City in it? Then, it'd be better for the Pats to have to go to Denver and face the Broncos in a potential playoff matchup than have to face the Chiefs either home or away. And, through fight night in Montreal, the Bruins picked up another win and sit atop the division, but the test starts now with lots of injuries piling up.
What's up and welcome back to the Something's Bruin Podcast! On today's episode Sully and Mel discuss the chaos that was Bruins/Montreal on Saturday night. Zadorov's fight, Jeannot dropping Xhekaj and the significance of the win. The boys also discuss the Charlie McAvoy injury, Arvidsson injury, and Mittelstadt injury. The Bruins also made some roster moves including placing Harris, Mittelstadt and Arvidsson on IR while calling up Riley Tufte and Matej Blumel. We'd be remise if we didn't discuss Beecher on waivers. Is it the end of Beech SZN? As always, we dive into Mel's mailbag and dove into the twitter DMs!
