Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the tough decisions that lie ahead for Capitals GM Brian Maclellan. This team has missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. How does Mac plan on getting this team back on the tracks. According to Mike Vogel: "I'd pay close attention to MacLellan's words on exit day, the day the Caps clean out their lockers, speak to media and sift through the rubble of a season gone awry. MacLellan is arguably the League's most candid GM, and he isn't shy about sharing his shopping list every spring when the offseason gets underway. Personnel plans in the hockey operations department are already well underway, and a host of possibilities and potential moves and paths to take this summer are already being discussed. When he took over this job nine years ago next month, MacLellan spoke of the need to add to the team's defense. A month or so later, Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen were in the fold. MacLellan generally sets his objectives and then sets about achieving them, and I wouldn't expect this summer to be any different. But yes, my sense is that the Caps are in for a big summer with some big moves. Later Dan talks about Alex Ovechkin and missing the playoffs. Ovi is 37 years old and he has plans on winning more Stanley Cups while he's here. How do the Capitals plan on doing that? In the last segment Dan talks about Charlie Lindgren and if they have a better option as backup goalie in Hunter Shepard. Chalie hasn't had a great season, should Mac see if there's a more viable option elsewhere? You've found The Crowley Show and I basically should've just named this entire hour the Nostalgia hour. We start with the news that GMJR is now an HHOF'er as we was voted in today. Crowley looks back on the resume of Rutherford even beyond the Penguins triumphs and really puts into perspective just how good he's been in his career. Long time Penguin Brooks Orpik has decided that he was hanging up the skates today. We continue to drive down memory lane as we spend some time on Brooks' time as a Penguin, including Crowley going as far as saying he was one of the best Penguin defenseman of all time. Travis Yost of TSN then hops on the program to talk NHL free agency with the Crowl man.
Second hour of the program starts with a litttleeeeeeeee itty bitty bit of Pirates talk. Hey they have the best bench in all of baseball, isn't that neat?!? However the majority of the segment circles around Evgeni Malkin and how he can bounce back next year, something the Penguins sorely need. Brian Metzer then joins us to give us his thoughts on Brooks Orpik, including one time where Orpik yelled at him, before he gets into the offseason and GMJR's induction. It's then time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined, where we examine some professors ranking of NFL fanbases.

The guys are back to talk about all that happened at the 2018 NHL draft weekend. But first, Carl say Jurassic World. Would actually cloning dinosaurs be that terrible of an idea? We might find out. Carl's real team and "former" bandwagon team made a deal as Brooks Orpik and Philipp Grubauer head to the Colorado Avalanche. Does this make Carl happy? Will this help the Washington Capitals sign John Carlson? (5 minutes after recording ended, we found out the answer) The New York Islanders brought in Barry Trotz and had a great draft. Is that enough to get John Tavares to stay? Ilya Kovlachuk is back in the NHL! But why did the LA Kings sign him? The draft itself had some hits and some misses. Who were the winners and losers of the draft? The Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes made a deal, centered around Dougie Hamilton. The main take away from it though, is that Dougie loves museums and apparently that's a bad thing. We disagree. Keep the podcast name suggestions coming! On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian discuss two newly-minted NHL first-liners and one newly-minted PPQB, a dominant blue-liner who could make for a great sell-high candidate, a dormant defenseman who may yet have more to offer, and the shockingly thin list of candidates to be the 3rd best non-injured player on the Wild. And, take on Elan and Brian in the Keeping Karlsson FanDuel listener league! Our contest opens every Monday night, and runs on Tuesday nights.
