In contrast, we have players that maybe have not played a game in three months. So there’s a lot of context that needs to be considered when interpreting the test results of the players that are at the combine.” 9:08 “What we see in some of these conversations that come up regularly is that a player might be really fast on the ice and really underdeveloped in their speed and power qualities off the ice. To me, that may be a player that you really want to take a strong look at because if they have a four-cylinder engine, and they’re beating eight-cylinder engines in races, then you increase the size of the engine. It’s likely that they’re going to continue to scale up in a positive direction.” 15:35 “It’s more of a three-pronged approach of marrying what literature and research-based evidence says along with the coach’s experience along with the values and preferences of the athlete.” 33:10

Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens Scott is back from a busy weekend at the NHL Draft Combine in Buffalo, New York and there is a ton to talk about. Scott gives his overall reaction to the testing on Saturday, and also the connections between many of the top players in this upcoming draft class. Players like Andrew Cristall gushing about Connor Bedard, or the trio of USNTDP players at the top of the class all have plenty to say about each other. Also based off the interviews from the week, what are the Canadiens going to do at fifth overall in the NHL Draft? It's still cloudy, but Scott does his best to try and read between the lines to see what Kent Hughes and the Canadiens might be up to when they take the stage in Nashville. Speaking of the Canadiens, when interviews and testing wrapped up on Saturday one thing was very clear, the Montreal Canadiens are very much in the hunt for a goalie in this upcoming draft. Scott spoke with Michael Hrabal, Adam Gajan, and Trey Augustine over the weekend, each of whom had a long talk with the Canadiens during the week. Scott walks through each of the options and why it's a great time for the Canadiens to stock up on goalie prospects. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
As we get closer to the 2022 NHL Draft in Montreal, Locked On Flyers hosts Russ Cohen and Rachel Donner join us to give us tidbits from the Draft Combine in Buffalo, particularly as it pertains to the Canadiens. Russ was covering the combine and was able to speak to many of the players, and this is the first of a two-part draft prospect related episode, with the second episode, coming tomorrow, covering Shane Wright, Logan Cooley, Juraj Slafkovsky, Simon Nemec, Matthew Savoie, David Jiricek, and more. We also recap the Laval Rocket games over the weekend as the series heads back to Springfield, and we discuss our respective nemeses of the week between our two shows. The officiating in both the NHL and the AHL playoffs leaves a lot to be desired so we touch on how the series between the Rocket and the Thunderbirds is getting out of control and Cayden Primeau, who has played extremely well behind the Rocket, ends up being the collateral damage. Russ was covering the combine and was able to speak to many of the players, and this is the first of a two-part draft prospect related episode, with the second episode, coming tomorrow, covering Shane Wright, Logan Cooley, Juraj Slafkovsky, Simon Nemec, Matthew Savoie, David Jiricek, and more.We also recap the Laval Rocket games over the weekend as the series heads back to Springfield, and we discuss our respective nemeses of the week between our two shows. The officiating in both the NHL and the AHL playoffs leaves a lot to be desired so we touch on how the series between the Rocket and the Thunderbirds is getting out of control and Cayden Primeau, who has played extremely well behind the Rocket, ends up being the collateral damage.Find and follow Locked on Canadiens on your favourite podcast platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/locked-on-canadiens-daily-podcast-on-the-montreal/id1481087511Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0DUBvqUjDFSfWSFnogXOoU?si=BknvfKB8QF-eXiiomysuZw&nd=1Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/show/locked-on-canadiens-daily-podcast-on-the-montreal-canadiensAlso make sure to follow Locked on Canadiens and their hosts on Twitter!Locked on Canadiens: https://twitter.com/LO_CanadiensFind Scott on Twitter: https://twitter.com/scottmatlaFind Laura on Twitter: https://twitter.com/theactivestick#NHLHockey #MontrealCanadiens #HabsSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens: Carey Price has won the 2022 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance and dedication to the sport of hockey. Yet, somehow there was not all congratulations and applause for the Habs franchise netminder. Scott and Laura break down the story around Price and his comeback and also debate whether the spilled ink around his win is worth it. After that, the NHL Draft Combine was last week in Buffalo, with all the top prospects converging to take part in player interviews with NHL teams and to do their fitness testing. Unsurprisingly the Montreal Canadiens were at the forefront of the news, not only based on who they were interviewing with, but also the seemingly odd questions they asked to the draft-eligible players. Scott and Laura discuss the biggest question posed to the prospects, and also if there's anything to read into which players were treated to dinner by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens. Finally, the Laval Rocket kicked off the Eastern Conference Finals against the Springfield Thunderbirds on Saturday night. Scott breaks down the first two games of the series, in which the Rocket earned a hard-fought split on the road, and where the series is headed next. The hosts also take a look at when we might see top prospect Joshua Roy in the lineup, and what tweaks can still be made to keep the momentum in their favour. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers left no nets unfilled in the first game, is this series going to be iconic? Should Cale Makar's goal have counted? Can the Avalanche win without Kuemper? The New York Rangers came out of the game and blew up Andrei Vasilevskiy, are they for real? Are the Tampa Bay Lightning in trouble? The NHL Draft Combine always has some interesting questions, but the big one this year was what animal would best describe you as a hockey player? What's the best one, and what is yours? With General Managers in Buffalo for the NHL Draft Combine, we have to wonder if VGK is close to having some movement on naming a new head coach. Emily Kaplin, of ESPN, said earlier this week that she believes a deal could already be in place between the Golden Knights and Barry Trotz. We also run down some of the activities that will happen during the Combine and we discuss what Golden Knights might excel in different tests. Our guess is the VGK front office has probably heard enough of former head coach Gerrard Gallant's name in recent weeks as his team makes it into the Conference Final. Did VGK make a mistake by letting Gallant go too soon? He has shown his ability to win and be honest with his teams, media, and management. Also - Laurent Brossoit has hip surgery over the weekend and the NHL Draft Combine starts today. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

This week we're honored to be visited by our friend Joe Yerdon, currently writing for NHL.com on the Buffalo Sabres beat. It's always a blast to talk puck with Joe, and it gets fascinating when we talk about his front row seat for all of the Buffalo drama. We talk about their prospects like Sam Reinhart and Mikhail Grigorenko, and an upcoming one - some nobody named Jack Eichel or something? Joe was also covering the recent NHL Draft Combine that was in Buffalo, and we do a little brain picking about that experience. How will new coach Dan Bylsma tackle the challenge there? There's also some speculation about the role the Sabres will play in the free agent and trade markets. They have the picks, cash, and cap space for offer sheets- Hmmmm... It's really interesting to see how things are going on in Buffalo, and of course see what lessons can be learned and applied to our Blues.
