The Detroit Red Wings and their young guns have clawed back into this thing, all while the NHL trade world had a massive bombshell deal. Tune in as we open (after commenting on the response to Kucherov's trip on Rasmussen) (00:00) by discussing the home Hockeytown win over Lane Hutson and the Montreal Canadiens, including Dylan Larkin leading the way in his 700th game, Lucas Raymond's increasingly elite abilities, Jonatan Berggren, Alex DeBrincat, and Andrew Copp contributing (after Simon Edvinsson's block), & more (5:35). Next, Marco Kasper & Cam Talbot leading Detroit to a 2-0 win over Andrei Vasilevskiy & the Tampa Bay Lightning (even without Patrick Kane), including Kasper's redirect, Albert Johansson's fantastic play, Lilleberg's hit to J.T. Compher's head, a chippy game with Cirelli, Hedman & Co., and Nikita Kucherov's dirty trip on Michael Rasmussen's empty net goal (16:05). After that, a look at how the Red Wings rookies have been playing steadily better under Todd McLellan, including Elmer Soderblom, and what that means for future players like Nate Danielson & Carter Mazur - as well as a look at where Steve Yzerman's squad sits in the NHL wild card playoff race (28:45). Next up, a look at the NHL Quarter Century Team for the Detroit Red Wings (Steve Yzerman, Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Osgood, Sergei Federov, Dylan Larkin, Brendan Shanahan, Chris Chelios, Brian Rafalski, Dominik Hasek), and whether Jimmy Howard or Mo Seider deserved a look (43:50), as well as an update on Axel Sandin Pellikka's plans to leave the SHL after this season to play for either Detroit or the Grand Rapids Griffins (48:20). We then jump into the insane blockbuster trade that happened in the NHL, as the Colorado Avalanche sent Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes for Martin Necas (with Taylor Hall, Jack Drury, and other pieces coming into play thanks to the Chicago Blackhawks): what does this mean for MacKinnon, Makar & Co., how everyone did in the trade, whether the Red Wings can still sign Rantanen in free agency, where the Vancouver Canucks trying to thrade Elias Petterson and J.T. Miller fit into this, & more (51:40) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:17:25) - enjoy! On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we turn back the clock to redraft the 2000 NHL Draft. We look at how the top 10 changed based on actual production, and a scenario in which the Wild still ended up with Gaborik. We discuss why he was the right pick with where the Wild were at as a franchise, and why it was vital they grab a franchise cornerstone. We look at a scenario in which he went 2nd to Atlanta, forcing the Wild to make a different selection, and make the case for Dany Heatley as opposed to Niklas Kronwall. We finish by looking at alternatives in the second round in the event that Nick Schultz was actually drafted in the first round and why that is a more palatable loss than Gaborik in the 1st round.Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersAG1 - If a comprehensive solution is what you need from your supplement routine, then try AG1 and get a FREE 1-year supply of Vitamin D AND 5 free AG1 Travel Packs with your first purchase. After that the two play love doctor and try to think of reasons why Justin Williams is "taking a break" from his love, the NHL (15:55-22:25), also the Blue Jackets and Zach Werenski finally agree on a deal, will that help salvage any part of their season (22:25-26:30). Finally, the boys start to give their previews of each division weekly, starting with the Metropolitan (26:30-59:10). For Baseball Talk the GM of the Red Sox got fired (59:10-1:07:20), Verlander threw a no-hitter and should be given the AL Cy Young NOW, according to Big Dave, the guys try to think of any other possible team to upset either the Yankees or Astros in the AL (1:07:20-1:14:15), Jeff and Big Dave also try to think of teams that could upset the Dodgers or Braves in the NL playoffs (1:14:15-1:19:30). Jeff talks a little Braves and the guys make their cases for NL MVP (1:19:30-1:28:28).
It's time for hockey to start! As prospect's camp, and soon to be NHL camps, are open it's time to start our division previews! But first.... Jake Gardiner has signed with the Carolina Hurricanes. Why did it take so long? Zach Werenski signed an extension with the Columbus Bluejackets, which means that A RESTRICTED FREE AGENT SIGNED! Niklas Kronwall retired. But is he done with the Red Wings? The NHL's marketing strategy was highlighted this week, and spoilers, it's weird. And now, the Pacific division preview! In a division won the by the Calgary Flames last year, the offseason saw James Neal and Milan Lucic swap teams, Phil Kessel join a team, Joe Pavelski leave a team and a lot of the teams do, well, nothing. What does that mean for 2019-2020? Will the elite players in the division step up? We also hand out a copy of Mike Commito's book, Hockey 365. With NHL Rookie camps and Training camps on the horizon, hockey is suddenly in our foreseeable future! Hold on everyone…the finish line is almost upon us. This week’s show is chock full of tidbits, but actual storylines are still hard to come by so here we present the best of what is available. Niklas Kronwall at age 37 has stated that this season could very well be his last in the NHL. My concern is that when a player makes a statement like this he or she may already be retired in their own mind. He has won a Stanley Cup and 12 of his 14 years ended in the playoffs. He has had a solid NHL career with the same organization. Dustin Tokarski, the goaltender that made a name for himself in the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals for the Montreal Canadiens has been given another crack at an NHL position with his signing of a one-year contract with the New York Rangers. He will be competing for the backup job behind the King, so we wish him well. Experience wise he is the leader in the clubhouse, but Mazanec and Georgiev may have something to say about it when all is said and done. Jeremy Roenick tweeted out his top ten centers in the league, and overall the list is good, but there are some names that may be out of position. You’ll have to give us a listen and tell us what you think or if there is someone you would have liked to see on the list. The Forecheckers had their own poll out there on Twitter, and the results were puzzling at best! Which team would improve by 7 or more points this season over last season. There were 4 choices, the Leafs, the Islanders, the Panthers and the Blue Jackets. Fifty-eight percent of you said the Leafs had the best chance, but at 105 points last season, they would need a herculean effort to get to 112. The lowest percentage was the Islanders, at just 8%. Here the team would only need a few more wins and a few less losses, the obvious choice. Let us know. The Devils signed their first-round pick, defenseman Ty Smith to a 3-year entry level deal. Congrats to the youngster as he had a solid season in the WHL last season and showed that he should at least be given a chance. Finally, we come to the NHL Network’s list of the top 20 defensemen in the league. To say that this was funny to read may be an understatement as we took umbrage with many choices. Should Hamilton be in the top 20? Charlie McAvoy? He has only been around for one full season. Give us a listen and tell us who you believe should be on this list. Perhaps you agree…tell us why! Thanks for all the listening you do and let us know if there is anything you want to hear or just rant at us for our opinions. Enjoy the show!
Tre Kronors backuppsättning blir tung i VM. Mer i avsnittet: >> Är Niklas Kronwall coachmaterial? >> Vem ska bli ny coach i Calgary – kan det rentav bli en bonde från Viking? >> Hur lyckades San Jose Sharks och Vegas Golden Knights vinna sina respektive serier i Stanley Cup-slutspelets första runga i fyra raka matcher? >> Är Marc-Andre Fleury slutspelets MVP så här långt – och vilka andra spelare har vi sett dominera en hel slutspelsserie som Fleury gjorde mot Los Angeles Kings? Dessutom bjuds det på exklusivt bakom kulisserna-material, då Lindquist live i podden får besked från Hampus Lindholm om att denne är villig att lira VM. Big Drew and Jim update the latest rape allegations made against select MSU basketball players and discuss Michigan cancelling this year’s Spring Game. Also, is Ben Simmons or Donovan Mitchell this year’s Rookie of the Year, and who currently belongs in the Top 5 of college basketball’s top head coaches? Lastly, should Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg hang up their skates for good?

Welcome to the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's sesquicentennial episode! The free agent frenzy has slowed to a trickle, but we are bursting with takes on how player production around the league will be affected. Of course, our analysis goes beyond just the player that has moved-- we go up and down depth charts to scope out roster-wide effects, including the blue lines, top sixes, creases and power-play units in New York, Washington, New Jersey, Dallas, Buffalo, Florida, Detroit, Los Angeles and Toronto, to name a few. The last couple weeks have also seen plenty of address changes for goaltenders, which means a handful of new tandems and new opportunities for goalies to push and be pushed for playing teams. Elan and Brian name the 'tenders who are better off for their move, others who should be looking over the shoulder, and still others who could be platooning from the get-go-- particularly in Winnipeg and Philadelphia. Remember, we've got our summer patronage special on from now til September: become a $1 patron of the show, and you'll get the full slate of $5 patron perks, including access to the famous patrons-only Facebook group! Have you heard of the latest genre of fantasy hockey podcast? It's called streamo! And this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast is a pioneer of the scene, giving you all the news and analysis you need to get an edge ahead of the biggest weeks of your season. Elan and Brian are joined by Stream Scheme's Davey B, and together the trio talks about how they tweak their strategies for the fantasy playoffs, and which decent and perfectly rosterable players might not cut it with bad schedules next week. They also cover the flipside: players who are normally FA fodder who suddenly look attractive because of some extra games played they can offer you over the first part of the week. Also: what happened to Jimmy Vesey? Do we have a tandem in St. Louis? Does someone really need to score in New Jersey? Can anyone continue scoring in Anaheim? ..and, of course, plenty more. Don't follow Dave on Twitter, but if you get the desire, listen until he end of the show for his handle. Players discussed on this episode include Travis Sanheim, Phil Danault, Justin Williams, Jonathan Drouin, Josh Leivo, Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat, Craig Smith, Mikael Granlund, Colin Miller, Mark Stone, Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty, Dustin Brown, Nazem Kadri, Andreas Johnsson, Kasperi Kapanen, Jimmy Vesey, Vladislav Namestnikov, Mika Zibanejad, Pavel Buchnevich, Filip Chytil, Brett Howden, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Josh Anderson, Kyle Palmieri, Travis Zajac, Jakub Voracek, Travis Konecny, Nolan Patrick, Oskar Lindblom, Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Conor Sheary, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, J.T. We don't get no bye weeks over here-- even though everyone else is kicking back, we're at it again for another new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! If you thought there was no NHL news, notes and analysis to discuss during the all star break that could help you get an edge for your fantasy team.. you know us better than that. Elan and Brian begin the week by considering the possibility that regression-- gasp!-- just ain't gonna come to a player who has successfully avoided it for 45-50 games, and that morphs into talk of the Gambler's Fallacy and coin-flipping and the colours of roulette wheels. From there, they review where goalie loyalties might lie in Montreal, Nashville, Colorado and Washington, dig into some sad slumpers in Nashville and Winnipeg, herald some happy hotties in Calgary, Carolina, San Jose, Los Angeles and New York, discuss how Timo Meier can make history, and also share some names of players who were great not so long ago, but then blew it last year, but now are back to doing their thing in 2018-19. Players discussed on this episode include Carey Price, Philip Danault, P.K. Subban, Ryan Ellis, Ryan Johansen, Pekka Rinne, Juuse Saros, Semyon Varlamov, Philipp Grubauer, Carl Soderberg, Braden Holtby, Pheonix Copley, Jaccob Slavin, Noah Hanifin, Nino Niederreiter, Frank Vatrano, Roberto Luongo, Auston Matthews, T.J. Is patience a virtue? This week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is all about the players who are are most likely to be testing your tolerance with early-season slumps. Elan and Brian are here to help you decide whether to grant a stay of execution to these heretofore snoozers, or to cut your losses and move on. You've been asking all week for permission to let go of several skaters after watching them struggle to score for ten-plus games. Can a new Islander make more of a dent towards gaining back the 134 points sent out the door in the offseason? Is a young Panther centreman able to produce without his left-hand man? Were we fooled by an early-season surge by a perennial tease in St. Louis? Do two of three triplets deserve to survive on your roster? Will a Calgary forward's stat line continue to be as boring as he is? The guys also examine the other side of the coin, which features a surprising selection of point-per-game players from around the league. Will several Blue Jackets continue lighting the lamp? Can a trio of Rangers possibly crack fifty points with only third line minutes and no power-play time? Did our earlier haste make waste of an opportunity to ride a Chicago centreman's ten game point streak? Can a Devils' d-man contend for forty points while barely putting any shots on net? All that, and more, on this week's episode! Players featured on this episode include Sergei Bobrovsky, Steve Mason, Aleksander Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Colton Sceviour, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, Paul Stastny, Jaden Schwartz, Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Michael Frolik, Derek Stepan, Poor Torey Krug, Andrew Ladd, Leon Draisaitl, Loui Eriksson, Radim Vrbata, Semyon Varlamov, Calvin Pickard, Jake Allen, Alexander Wennberg, Nick Foligno, Zach Werenski, Damon Severson, Yohann Auvitu, Artem Anisimov, Marian Hossa, JT Miller, Kevin Hayes, Michael Grabner, Marcus Johansson, Rickard Rakell, Dennis Seidenberg,, Alec Martinez, Jake Muzzin, Cal Clutterbuck, Evander Kane, David Backes, David Krejci, Conor Sheary, Niklas Kronwall, Mike Green, Carl Hagelin and more. It's the holiday edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, which is to say that it's exactly the same as all the others! Perhaps next week, when the podcast takes the week off, is the true holiday edition.. (take note: our next regular episode comes at you on January 8th). Unwanted holidays begin our show, as Elan and Brian unwrap the effects of injuries around the NHL, including a couple of tender tenders in Tampa and Detroit, a shelved blueliner also in Detroit, and infirm top six forwards in New York and St. Louis. Returns from unwanted holidays follow, with kudos being handed out to a back-to-backup goalie in Chicago, best wishes to a Bruin forward edging his way out of the doghouse, and a couple of Hurricanes whose output will likely remain limited by their locale. Then, it's on to players gone AWOL, who've taken holidays without permission or approval from anyone. The guys lament the scoresheet absences of the next best Oiler after McDavid, a bandaid boy Blue, a couple of Habs, and the Sabre who was supposed to fix everything. We put a bow on this edition by saluting those players working overtime for your fantasy team, with four Blue Jackets, three Minnesota Wild, two Calgary Flames, and a Leafs goalie on a hot streak. Players featured on this episode include Alex Wennberg, Cam Atkinson, Jordan Eberle, Mark Letestu, Matt Dumba, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Brian Elliott, Matthew Tkachuk, Frederik Andersen, Petr Mrazek, Anthony Mantha, Shea Weber, Alex Radulov, Jack Eichel, Jimmy Howard, Jared Coreau, Ben Bishop, Kristers Gudlevskis, Mike Green, Rick Nash, Kyle Palmieri, Brandon Pirri, Mika Zibanejad, Derek Stepan, Ryan Sproul, Paul Stastny, Alex Steen, Corey Crawford, Scott Darling, David Pastrnak, Ryan Spooner, Frank Vatrano, Elias Lindholm, Derek Ryan, Eddie Lack, Patrick Maroon, Leon Draisaitl, Jason Zucker, Eric Staal, Niklas Kronwall, Brian Rafalski, Cory Schneider and more. While Elan is off doing god knows what in Vegas, Brian takes the reins on this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast.Brian isn't going at it alone, though-- Hockey PDOcast's Dimitri Filipovic steps in to guest host as we fly through this week's most pertinent poolie particulars. We look at an unusually high volume in changes to top lines across the NHL, including those in Columbus, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Chicago, Long Island, Dallas and Florida, as well as the newest opportunities available to some hungry up-and-comers that might just be ready to start producing. We also compare the production of the players on two of the hottest lines in the league-- these guys are not only putting up points, but they're doing it while wearing NHL crests long associated with scoring scarcity and boring hockey (though that reputation may be proving harder to shake for one particular locale).Players discussed on this episode include Nick Bjugstad, Brent Seabrook, Adam Henrique, Pascal Dupuis, James Neal, Lee Stempniak, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Dmitri Jaskin, Jori Lehtera, Mattias Janmark, Mike Cammalleri, Erik Karlsson, Colton Parayko, Duncan Keith, Alex Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Jaden Schwartz, Mike Green, Brendan Smith, Niklas Kronwall, Evander Kane, Matt Moulson, Johan Larsson, Teemu Pulkkinen, Paul Stastny, David Backes, Scotty Upshall, Jonathan Huberdeau, Michael Neuvirth, Steve Mason, Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss, Chris Kunitz, David Perron, Ryan Johansen, Brandon Dubinsky, Radim Vrbata, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Ryan Strome, Kyle Okposo, Matthew Nieto, Joel Ward, Viktor Tikhonov, Antti Raanta, Mike Fisher, Mike Ribeiro, James Neal, Trevor Daley, Andrei Markov, Alex Semin, Jeff Skinner, Patrick Sharp, Max Domi, Tobias Rieder, Anthony Duclair, Sergei Bobrovsky, Craig Anderson and more.Be sure to check out Hockey PDOcast on the web, on iTunes, on soundcloud, and on Patreon! And we highly recommend you follow Dimitri on Twitter @DimFilipovic.* * *Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! If you enjoy the show, please support future episodes by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson. It’s the end of the fantasy hockey week and then means it’s time for a new episode of the Keeping Karlsson fantasy hockey podcast. Brian and Elan start off the show by discussing how they both did this week; Brian got time-zoned and Elan made a big move. Players discussed in this segment include Mikko Koivu, Patrik Elias, Tobias Enstrom, Darcy Kuemper, Tyler Tofolli and Martin Havlat. Next the guys respond to some listener questions that came to keepingkarlsson@gmail.com and @keepingkarlsson on Twitter. These questions ask about players including Drew Doughty, Niklas Kronwall, Artem Anisimov, Pavel Datsyuk, Gabriel Landeskog and also about how to cope when you trade away players and they do well.Next comes Brian’s the in-depth analysis of a few players including Nick Bjugstad, Jimmy Howard, Zdeno Chara and the Keeping Karlsson snoozers of the week, Sean Monahan and Cory Conacher. The show ends with some rapid fire analyses of Gustav Nyquist, Kris Versteeg and Michael Stone.Enjoy this jam-packed episode!Want to advertise on this podcast? Are you still in contention for your championship? Or keen on picking up pointers for next year? Or just can't yet kick the habit of getting your fantasy hockey fix each week? No matter what the reason, we've got a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast just for you! The huge bulk of this episode is framed by Injuries and Outjuries. Right off the top, Elan and Brian squabble about whether there's any value left to be had on Long Island with Tavares on the shelf, and get their best told-you-so voices out to comment on the Isles' goaltending situation. They also chat about he 2nd best Panther to own now that Barkov is out, Florida's opening night starter in 2017-18 (spoiler: not Reto Berra), and Philadelphia's opening night starter in 2017-18 (spoiler: maybe Reto Berra??). The guys offer up some replacement options for a banging and mashing blueline Flyer, celebrate the rise and lament the fall of members of he Flyers forward corps, and go ape over the bizarre power play formation in Nashville earlier today (and how it may relate to their confidence in a former 40 goal scorer). They also demonstrate concern for oft-reliable Sharks, all Wild goalies, the Penguins' powerplay quarterback, the Senators' playoff chances, and the future of the Detroit Red Wings. In Outjuries, our hosts wonder if Anaheim really needs to turn all the way back to their returned number one goalie, and marvel at the 22nd thirty-goal scorer of 2016-17 who is doing things that, in the previous eleven years, he was never given the chance to do. They muse on the future of an ageing bounced-back Duck and a rising young Lightning. The show closes with Hot Streaks, where a Leafs rookie is making a case to be taken in the first round, a new Avalanche is making a case for people to realize he's on the Avalanche, a King is getting point for himself but not the team, another interchangeable anonymous Blackhawk takes a successful turn on the top line, a couple goalies who are normally scary are making themselves slightly less scary, and a pedigreed Hurricane d-man is suddenly somewhat reliable in his production. Also, Elan flexes in his sleeveless shirt. And before credits roll, we pay tribute to the teams we've lost and celebrate those that have won. Players discussed on this episode include John Tavares, Josh Ho-Sang, Anders Lee, Auston Matthews, Jonathan Marchessault, Jordan Weal, Sven Andrighetto, Jonathan Bernier, John Gibson, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Anthony Mantha, Henrik Zetterberg, Sean Couturier, Logan Couture, Joe Thornton, Conor Sheary, Jake Guentzel, Justin Schultz, Anthony Stolarz, Vincent Trocheck, James Reimer, Roberto Luongo, Josh Bailey, Andrew Ladd, Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss, Reto Berra, Michal Neuvirth, Steve Mason, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek, Radko Gudas, James Neal, Kevin Fiala, Ryan Ellis, PK Subban, Roman Josi, Joe Pavelski, Kevin Labanc, Phil Kessel, Jason Zucker, Devan Dubnyk, Erik Haula, Alex Stalock, Darcy Kuemper, Mike Green, Niklas Kronwall, Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Cody Ceci, Erik Karlsson, Marc Methot, Dion Phaneuf, Zach Werenski, Seth Jones, Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point, Yanni Gourde, Jack Eichel, William Nylander, Frederik Andersen, Mitch Marner, Alex Barkov, Mikko Rantanen, Matt Duchene, Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Rick Nash, Kris Versteeg, Jarome Iginla, Anze Kopitar, Tuukka Rask, Henrik Lundqvist, Kari Lehtonen, Tanner Kero, Zach Sanford, Elias Lindholm, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Patrik Berglund, Noah Hanafin and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes!
