After years of writing and editing for other's, seeing my name on their mastheads, I took a break in 2012 to become my mother's caregiver. Israel - A Prince with God by Frederick Brotherton Meyer audiobook. An old-world story this! In its strange Eastern dress, it appears to be as remote from us as the garb of an Arab, or the barter of an Oriental Bazaar. And yet human life is much the same, whenever and wherever lived. Our critics complain of our poring over these timeworn pages of ancient biography, but, with all deference to them, we feel bound to say that we learn better how to live, we inhale more spiritual ozone, we see further into the reasons of God's dealings with men, when doing so, than when scanning the pages of yesterday's newspaper, or of a society journal. Thousands of miles cannot part us from our kin across the seas; and thousands of years cannot part us from our kin across the ages, or sever the readers of these words from the son of Isaac, who, nearly drowned in the seas of his own craft and cunning, at length emerged a new man, and a prince with God. Bill Dumas is back in the studio for his second episode with The Smoke Ring Syndicate We come into frame with a new friend, Cliff Schulze Yes that Schulze of Schulze Pit Room. Bill has taken his sausage passion from the Brotherton's Black Iron BBQ up to the Seguin Tx at the Schulze Pit Room. There he'll be polishing the current sausages and expending the line 10 fold! Look to be able to get Bills art maybe even at YOUR house? That's right Tuesday of this week March 12th was his first day but don't expect him to keep all the sausage inside the walls of the bbq restaurant. The door seems to be propped open to have wholesale sausage delivery possible. Which, as an Atlanta resident makes me very hopeful for the future of sausage. And in true bbq lifestyle fashion Bill will continue to burn the candle at both ends with the classes consulting and his crazy schedule. Bill is a massive historian of the craft and even at his wurst he's better than most. The Schulze name has been one in the Texas world for a number of years so I'm certain that relationship will be great for them both. The restaurant in Seguin has old school bbq vibes from more than 20 years ago being a bbq restaurant already. And with the updates and reclaimed interior from all over the US, it's definitely got that old school vibe that bbq is. I'm super excited to see Bill in person soon and see the new world of sausage. https://sausagesensei.com/ https://schulzespitroom.com/

Starting as a young boy as free labor for his dad graduating into the sausage maker for a local bbq joint eventually curating sausage recipes and skills for several *not publicly named* bbq joints in Texas and beyond. After his most recent visit to Mexico the Sausage machine aka smoker colab was born. His talent has taken him abroad and continues to grow every year. Even with the classes nearly every week he still maintains the sausage for Brotherton's Black Iron Barbecue a high-volume, nationally acclaimed award-winning Texas Monthly Rated BBQ restaurant. His classes are interesting as there's not a set recipe he's giving out per se'. It's designed with understanding the craft of what needs to go into a sausage. So it's for the beginner taking that first step, the already proficient backyard pit cook wanting to just sharpen and polish his or her skills, or for the professional pitmaster or restauranteur wanting to increase their bottom line. And that's the bottom line…. You can get yourself in class at SausageSensei.com or with Harry Soo in his quarterly class.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R) signed a bill into law this year that say no health care provider shall perform gender transition surgeries on any minor. Senate Bill 49 was sponsored by State Sen. Transgender groups say it also unfairly targets them. Missouri attorney general Andrew Bailey joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that Senate Bill 49 is constitutional and will be upheld by the courts. General Bailey is in Springfield this morning for court proceedings. General Bailey says his office will hold wrongdoers accountable. Brotherton will be sentenced in October for second degree murder. They discuss the human papillomavirus (HPV), its link to cancers, the importance of vaccination and its impact on cervical cancer's global footprint. The HPV vaccine, developed by Australian scientists, has proven highly effective in preventing infection and related diseases. The vaccine has had a significant impact in Australia and globally, reducing genital warts and cervical precancerous cases. It also protects against other HPV-related cancers, such as anal and head and neck cancers. Professor Julia Brotherton highlights the importance of the vaccine in preventing cancer, its efficacy and successful implementation worldwide.   Visit Immunisation Foundation of Australia for more information For more episodes of Matter of Vax, visit https://www.ifa.org.au/matterofvax Host Steph O'Connell is a public health advocate with 25 years' experience in strategic communications. She became a public voice for vaccinations when her daughter, Lily (23), narrowly survived W strain of Meningococcal on Christmas Day, 2017. Nine months later her sister, Grace, donated a kidney that has since transformed Lily's life.  Steph's advocacy for immunisation awareness and vaccination became a collaboration in 2018 with Meningococcal Australia and resulted in Meningococcal vaccination campaigns by the Australian Government Department of Health and NSW Health. Lily's story quickly resonated with audiences and became a national and international appeal for awareness, education and vaccination.  Steph's work expanded during the pandemic and today she continues to advocate for improved access to vaccines, public education for lifelong vaccination behaviour and policy reform. MatterofVax, in collaboration with Immunisation Foundation of Australia takes a look at topical immunisation issues on video and podcast.  Listen to Matter of Vax on Apple.  Matter of Vax is produced by Ampel, for Immunisation Foundation of Australia. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After much anticipation, we are finally releasing our episode with Tosca Lee and Marcus Brotherton! I talked to Tosca and Marcus about their latest book, The Long March Home, which features three friends from Alabama fighting in the Philippines during World War II. This conversation makes a spectacular finale to season five. Here's a description of the novel from Revell: Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Jimmy “Propper” Propfield is determined to leave his home behind and see the world with his best friends Billy Crockett and Hank Wright. The Army is his way out. Plus, it will help him forget his high school sweetheart, Claire. At first, life in the Philippines seems like paradise—until the morning of December 8, 1941. Within hours of bombing Pearl Harbor, Japanese Imperial forces turn their attention to the Philippines. For the next four and a half months, the three friends are plunged into a battle for control of the Pacific theater that ends with the largest surrender of American troops in history. Jimmy, Billy, and Hank are rounded up and marched sixty miles up the Bataan Peninsula en route to Camp O'Donnell in what will become known as the Bataan Death March. With no hope of rescue, the three friends vow to make it back home together. But the ordeal is only the beginning of their nearly four-year fight to survive heat, disease, hunger, and life as POWs. The Long March Home is a riveting coming-of-age tale of friendship, courage, sacrifice, and love as three friends struggle to survive unthinkable odds. She came back!!! Proof that the work I'm doing on this podcast is good and the interviews aren't too much torture! In this episode, we pick back up where we left off. Jen was a Home Invasion Detective who promoted to Sergeant. She describes her experiences as a Sergeant: Patrol, Detectives, Internal Affairs until she is promoted to Lieutenant! She was a Patrol Commander, SWAT, and PIO!I love that she pointed out that the job is not easy, but so many invest their lives to being good at this, even to their own detriment. We've known so many whose personal lives fell apart for the sake of showing up at work in an extraordinary way. That's why I have so much respect for the men and women who prioritize themselves and their families! It's not an easy choice, but it's the correct one, every time! Enjoy retirement Jen, you earned it!

Who was Balthasar and why is he an important 20th-century theologian? What did he teach about Christ's descent to hell? What good do we find in his theology? Why are some of his ideas problematic? Did he hold to a doctrine of divine impassibility? Dr. Joshua Brotherton joins us to discuss these topics. The Classical Theism Podcast aims to defend Catholic Christian ideas in conversation. With the help of various guests, I defend three pillars of the Catholic Christian worldview: (1) the God of classical theism exists, (2) Jesus is our Messiah and Lord, and (3) He founded the Catholic Church. We place a strong emphasis on the first pillar, defending classical theism, drawing upon the work of Thomistic philosopher Dr. Edward Feser and many others.
