Welcome back to Beauty is a Bitch, where we get real about aging, confidence, and owning your power in midlife and beyond. Today's episode is extra special because I got to sit down with the one and only Julia Haart. You probably know her from the hit Netflix series My Unorthodox Life, but she's so much more than that. Julia is a total force—a self-made entrepreneur, author and advocate for women's empowerment. She's lived a life of radical reinvention, going from an ultra-Orthodox community to becoming the CEO of major fashion brands and now launching her own shapewear line, Body by Julia Haart—which, by the way, includes my new favorite bra. Seriously. We got into it all—what it really means to feel sexy and confident as we age, how to break free from limiting beliefs, and why it's time we stop shrinking ourselves just because society expects us to. We talked body image, personal style, reinvention, navigating criticism, and how to rewrite your story at any age. Oh—and we got on like gangbusters. I now consider her one of my besties (not in a creepy way, I promise). This conversation is honest, empowering, and full of truth bombs you don't want to miss. I'm not a fan of ultra-Orthodox religion of any kind or any form of extremist behavior.” (05:13 | Julia Haart)“Something that most women have tremendous difficulty with is acknowledging they're not happy and giving themselves permission to choose a different life.” (14:18 | Julia Haart)“People always ask me, ‘Oh my God, how do you walk in those high heels?' My answer has always been, ‘One step at a time.' And that is really an answer for how to build a business—one step at a time.” (26:25 | Julia Haart) “I built a billion-dollar business in two years through COVID. Why? Because I took a modeling agency, transformed it into a media conglomerate, and started selling data and packaging media deals in a way that, for the first time in history, made your ad dollar quantifiable and trackable… I changed the way people market. So, it's always about not just looking at what is but finding the spaces in between and identifying what isn't. That's how you build a business.” (33:37 | Julia Haart) “We have to tell our stories and we have to tell them truthfully. We have to show the bumps and the bruises. Otherwise, we just make women feel worse about themselves, not better.” (39:26 | Julia Haart)Connect with Julia Haart:https://www.instagram.com/juliahaart/Join Lindsay's group mentorship, Marketing Made Simple for Small Business:https://www.lindsaypinchuk.com/mmsfall2024Subscribe to the Dear FoundHer... newsletter: https://lindsaypinchuk.myflodesk.com/foundherfridaysDon't forget to follow Lindsay on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindsaypinchukPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. In her memoir BRAZEN, Julia writes with radical vulnerability and honesty, sharing her deeply personal journey of heartbreak, resilience, and courage to flee a fundamentalist community. Released in April 2022, BRAZEN became an instant bestseller in the U.S. and U.K. Above all else, Julia applies her experience and platform to be a force for positive change in the world and supporting women who have dedicated their lives to building a better future. With the right for women to choose under threat, Julia has taken a leading role in the pro-choice movement marching in support of women's rights, rallying her community of influential friends and followers, supporting organizations such as #VoteProChoice and Plan C, and serving on the Advisory Council of the Equal Rights Amendment Coalition. With so much at stake at home in the U.S., Julia has also worked tirelessly to campaign for pro-choice politicians and support organizations such as Emerge America to help recruit and train like-minded women to run for office. As a champion of democracy globally, Julia fights for the right to freedom around the world including Iran and Ukraine where she led a mission to deliver ambulances and critical humanitarian supplies.

I'm joined by Alex Michael May, body positivity influencer, to discuss her journey with love. From finding herself in back to back toxic relationships to meeting "the one" - we discuss how she grew, learned to trust herself and rediscovered her self-worth. At the age of 42, Julia Haart left her insular Jewish Orthodox community to find personal freedom. Despite having no formal education, Julia managed to become a shoe designer, the creative director of La Perla, and eventually the CEO of Elite World Group. She's also since become the star of her own Netflix series, My Unorthodox Life, and author of the bestselling book Brazen: My Unorthodox Journey from Long Sleeves to Lingerie. In this episode, Julia tells Alex about how found her way in the world outside of her orthodox community, and what she's learned about business savvy along the way. Full transcripts for all Imposters episodes available at https://imposters.morningbrew.com
This episode contains discussion of trauma, suicide and disordered eating. Raised within the confines of Haredi Judaism, Julia Haart was taught that the smaller you make yourself, the better you fulfill your role as a woman. Like many people brought up in extremely religious communities, barriers to the outside world made leaving seem nearly impossible. Only when Julia saw her own questions reflected by her children did she make the difficult decision to leave that world behind. The life that Julia has created in the time since has inspired women around the world. From her autobiography, Brazen, and subsequent Netflix show, My Unorthodox Life, to her roles as creative director of La Perla and CEO of Elite World Group, Julia has gone from keeping quiet to living out loud. Seeking to create an army of financially independent women who don't wait for permission, Julia embodies her motto, “if you want to change the world, you've got to make a lot of noise.” Thanks for listening! Time has indeed passed, the clock continues to tick—AKA Jordana, Aleen, and Sami don't have a ton of updates from the last time we all chatted. So, onto pop culture we go. Sami starts off by debriefing Julia Haart's new book (re: the My Unorthodox Life star), and there's a lot to discuss. No, it's not PG, and Aleen even spits out her coffee after hearing one of the sex stories—you'll def want to tune in. Back to PG programming, they segue onto celeb kids and discuss celeb parenting styles—think Prince Louis at the Platinum Jubilee and Pete Davidson taking Saint West on an outing sans Kim K. They wrap up by asking the big q we all wanna know: did Kylie Jenner name her baby yet?
If you've binged much TV this pandemic, you might have happened upon a new reality TV show on Netflix called “My Unorthodox Life.” The show is centered around Julia Haart, a high-powered CEO and fashion designer with a penchant for short skirts and sky-high heels. In between design meetings and runway shows, Julia is also seen managing her growing — and grown up — kids, in a straight-talking, cool-mom kind of way. Their lives appear glitzy, fashionable, busy, and champaign-filled. But it's a far cry from the world Julia left in 2013. Until she was 40 years old, Julia lived in an extreme ultra Orthodox Jewish community in upstate New York. If you've ever watched the show and wondered how this all happened, Julia is finally sharing her full story in her memoir, Brazen, which is out now. On this episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, Katie finds out how Julia went from a communist Russian childhood, to married off at 19 and living under the strict rules of her Orthodox community, to jet-setting, designing shoes and dresses for celebrities and, up until a few months ago, being the head of Elite World Group, one of the largest global modeling agencies. It's a journey you really have to hear for yourself. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Emma and Julie are back from a short break and have SO much to talk about. In order to fit it all, they turned this into a solely relationship focused mega episode. They begin with photos of Kim and Pete celebrating his birthday together in Palm Springs, The Flava Flav of it all, and discussing what they think the relationship means. Then, a huge week in breakup news: Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, Jacob Elordi and Kaia Gerber, Batsheva Haart and Ben Weinstein (from My Unorthodox Life), and some speculation about Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra.Next, all things Tom Holland and Zendaya. Finally, a debrief of Paris Hilton and Carter Reum's week long wedding celebration, Paris In Love on Peacock, and reports that he has a 9-year-old child.
