It's finally time! Bob and Al have been looking forward to this show since the start of Let's Go to the Ring, and finally, at long last, it's time to take a look at Capital Combat: Return of Robocop. Yes, unbelievably enough, WCW actually did a tie-in pay-per-view for the film Robocop II, but rather than do something sane like get Peter Weller to show up as Peter Weller and guest referee a match or do some commentary or something, it instead turned out that the Man Called Robocop was really real and was best pals with the Man Called Sting. At least, he is until the midpoint of the show, after which everyone starts pretending that angle never happened and Robocop turns into El Gigante. Some other stuff probably happens too, like a whole load of really good tag matches and a title match between some guys named Lex Luger and Ric Flair, but let's face it, you're here for Robocop. To serve the public trust, protect the innocent, and uphold the law...let's go to the ring!Music by Michael Gary Brewer at https://www.instantmusicnow.com/Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/LetsGo2theRing/

Tim and Rich break down this show which had a pretty solid card for an early WCW show. Ric Flair and Luger, the Four Horsemen running amuck, and Doom and The Steiner brothers nearly destroy humanity. It's pretty run of the mill until RoboCop shows up to keep the peace. All we can say is take a listen to Tim and Rich try to make sense of a show that really pushes kayfabe to its breaking point. Hello Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to the Undisputed Wrestling Podcast.  Welcome to our podcast series called "Wrestling With Film". "The Undisputed Rev" James Woolford is joined by "John Cena's Biggest Fan" Callum Hogan to review the 1987 film RoboCop. Before we review Capital Combat James sat Callum down and made him watch RoboCop who is the star of Capital Combat.  RoboCop is a 1987 American science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven. The film stars Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Daniel O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith and Miguel Ferrer. Set in a crime-ridden Detroit, Michigan, in the near future, RoboCop centers on police officer Alex Murphy (Weller) who is murdered by a gang of criminals and subsequently revived by the megacorporation Omni Consumer Products as the cyborg law enforcer RoboCop. Unaware of his former life, RoboCop executes a brutal campaign against crime while coming to terms with the lingering fragments of his humanity. The film has been analyzed for themes including the nature of humanity, personal identity, corporate greed, and corruption, and is seen as a rebuke of the policies of Ronald Reagan. Kris & David are joined by Phil Schneider (@philaschneider) to discuss the week-plus that was May 17-25, 1990. We start the show talking about ROBOCOP and the entire Capital Combat pay-per-view from WCW (featuring the stars of the National Wrestling Alliance!), with all of the highs and lows as well as Ole Anderson having just taken over as head booker. We also talk about the NWA being spotlighted on Connie Chung's show on CBS, Mr. Perfect winning the Intercontinental Title for the first time and announcing Bobby Heenan was his new manager, The Snowman showing up “unannounced” on Memphis TV in a wild angle, all of the insanity going on at The Sportatorium in Dallas on Saturday morning, and much more. This is a very fun show, and everyone should definitely go out and buy Phil's new book "Way of the Blade" on Amazon!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, they actually had Robocop show up in character on a wrestling show and shoot an angle. That's all anyone remembers from this show and that's a shame, because there are actually a lot of good matches here. We've got Ric Flair defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Lex Luger in a Steel Cage Match. We've got The Steiner Brothers vs. Doom for the World Tag Team Championship. Plus Tom Zenk and Brian Pillman against The Midnight Express and The Fabulous Freebirds against The Rock N Roll Express in a Corporal Punishment Match.

Welcome to Episode 26 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 26 we review WCW Capital Combat, The Return of Robocop. This was during the NWA years of WCW. This event has many wrestlers that would appear in the World Wrestling Federation not too long after this. They would leave for a multitude of reasons but at this time, WCW was not at its greatest. This PPV however did have some great moments. The Midnight Express, The 4 Horsemen and Sid Vicious In a Tuxedo, and of course the wonderful Woman accompanying Ric Flair. This event also has the guest appearance of the one and only Robocop, who would be Stings protector as he recovers from surgery. It has its ups and downs, but this event is well worth a watch. Find out who quit the promotion over refusing to lose to his heart punch, oddly enough what two guys were signed at the same time, JYD returns to a controversial angle, who Tony thinks was feeding the dirt to the Torch, what Tony felt the company needed desperately on this show, a hair match with two bald guys, and much more on a fun WHAT HAPPENED WHEN?! Tony and Conrad break down WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WCW finally started to trail the WWF in the ratings. Kevin Greene, Dennis Rodman, bringing Flair back, signing the Ultimate Warrior, and even challenging Vince McMahon to a fight?! What wouldn't WCW try to get things back on track. Business is through the roof but more than 30 guys are out with injuries and Bischoff is feeling desperate. We break down the "Vinnie Mac" challenge in silly detail, discuss the sleeper story of 1998 with a front office employee who had crazy power in the middle of these Monday Night Wars potentially jumping ship, Ric Flair in People's 50 Most Beautiful, why Flair wasn't already back, what Kevin Nash wanted to do with him, what everyone in the back was talking about for Goldberg, who was suing WCW over the Ultimo Dragon, the rumor and innuendo around Benoit's losing streak, how you knew Dusty was helping book this show, and one hell of an under card on a very underrated Slamboree 1998! Coming off a 30-week WrestleMania bender, The Lapsed Fan gets back to the business of deep diving an eclectic array of wrestling pay-per-views from the past. This week, it's the night Robocop saved Sting. Or, as Jim Cornette once called it, “one of the biggest abortions in the in the history of wrestling.”NWA Capital Combat 1990 will forever live in infamy, and TLF hosts Jack Encarnacao and JP Sarro stand ready to lampoon and assess it appropriately.Witness:- The story behind the forced Robocop angle, and how the gimmicked cage Robocop bent with his hands actually managed to dilute other parts of the show- The legacy of movie Robocop, and how casting him as a traditional, save-the-day superhero completely misses the point and genius of the film- Reflections on Norman the Lunatic- Big Johnny versus Big Evil, as Mark Calaway makes a rare WCW PPV appearance and flashes several glimpses of his trademark Undertaker move set against Johnny Ace- Sid stands around – stone faced and in a tuxedo for no reason – while his 4 Horsemen counterparts lambaste Sting- Why Bobby Eaton is under appreciated- Junkyard Dog tells Jim Cornette he's been sleeping with his mother- One of the best Frankensteiners Scott ever hit- The Corporal Punishment match between the Freebirds and the Rock N' Roll Express, where whipping a man's hide is legal, but entering the ring without a proper tag is not- Captain Mike RotundaAll that and so much more, as The Lapsed Fan journeys back to a true pro wrestling curiosity, and gives that trademark TLF treatment to Capital Combat 90.Download the show now!
