El pasado 8 de abril, República Dominicana sufrió uno de los peores accidentes que se recuerdan de los últimos años. El techo de una conocida discoteca se desplomó dejando a más de 220 muertos bajo los escombros y cientos de heridos.  Era cerca de la 1 de la madrugada. La popular discoteca Jet Set de Santo Domingo, en República Dominicana, estaba llena de gente. Era el tradicional “Lunes bailable” pero, sobre todo, nadie quería perderse la actuación del rey del merengue, Rubby Pérez.  Pero el destino o un supuesto conjunto de negligencias tenían otros planes para este 8 de abril. El techo de la discoteca colapsó, desplomándose y sepultando entre los escombros a cientos de personas. En tan solo unos minutos la música dejó de sonar para dar paso a gritos de auxilio y gente corriendo desorientada.  Posible negligenciaEn el lugar de los hechos se encontraba Carwin, un percusionista que acompañaba aquella noche a su madre, fanática del artista, y a unas amigas: “Decidimos ir a la discoteca porque mi mamá es fanática de Rubby Pérez y como yo soy músico, pasamos de cortesía. No estábamos en la pista de baile, estábamos grabando al artista y no nos dio tiempo. O sea, a nosotros nos ocurrió todo, estábamos ahí. De hecho, los golpes que tenemos es porque nos cayeron escombros encima. Pero gracias a Dios estamos vivos”, cuenta el joven de 32 años. Carwin se enteró horas después de que su amiga Jessica había muerto en el accidente y aún hoy, con la conmoción por lo sucedido, señala una posible negligencia por parte de los dueños de la discoteca: “Lamentándolo mucho, perdí una amiga y una gran amiga y la hermana de ella también. Yo me entero que está fallecida desde el martes a las 8 de la noche. Ella estaba a escasos pasos de mí. Esto no fue un accidente. Se trata de negligencia porque esa discoteca había sufrido un incendio en el 2023 y se había mandado a demoler. Y no se hizo”, denuncia.“Pido disculpas”Este jueves, el director del Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias, Juan Manuel Méndez, compareció ante los medios entre lágrimas para anunciar que los trabajos de rescate habían concluido tras sacar de los escombros a más de 220 víctimas mortales, entre ellas, el propio cantante Rubby Pérez o la gobernadora de la provincia Monte Cristi, Nelsy Cruz.  “Hoy concluimos en la tarea más difícil que he tenido durante 20 años al frente del centro de operaciones. Pido disculpas”, dijo Méndez. El accidente ha conmocionado a toda República Dominicana, quien ahora se pregunta si esto podría haberse evitado. Mientras tanto, el Gobierno ya ha creado una comisión de expertos para determinar las causas del colapso de la discoteca. Aunque los primeros indicios apuntan como origen a una posible deficiente estructura del edificio.

Now, though, she has to process this shocking discovery without the aid of her friends. Her love, Pleyel, thinks that she is a wanton woman who is having midnight trysts with Carwin. As if this weren't bad enough, Pleyel has discovered that Carwin is a wanted man, guilty of murder and larceny in Ireland.  Clara attempts to clear her name, but it's to no avail. Pleyel is unmoved.
