If you're reading along, just know this has been slightly shortened to fit the space, so it might not match the audio word for word—but you're not missing anything important. Today I would like to talk about some amazing things that have been happening during my Monday night class. Sometimes, during praise and worship, the Deacon leading the class will sense that the Lord wants to perform healings or show His personal love for us. He asks if anyone needs or wants prayer. If you do, you raise your hand, and those around you pray over you. We may not all feel comfortable praying for others, but the point of the class is to step out in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Let's step forward, relying on the Holy Spirit to guide us. In this class, we've been taught to assess the situation before and after prayer so we can see how God is working. Even asking how someone feels is an act of faith. When you pray, you want healing, but asking if anything has changed takes courage because they might say no. And sometimes they do. God always answers prayers, just not always how or when we expect. I've prayed for healing and not seen the result, but I trust God was still working. Asking what is happening is stepping out in faith. When I begin to pray, I ask what they need and, if there's pain, what level it is from 1 to 10 so we can compare later. After praying—maybe just a couple of minutes—we ask what they feel. Any change? Any warmth? What is the pain level now? We also ask them to share anything they notice from the Holy Spirit. We do this because we pray with expectant faith. We expect God to show up. Jesus said in John 14:12-14 that those who believe will do the works He did, and more. If we ask in His name, He will do it. That doesn't mean it always happens how or when we expect, but we can trust He is moving. One thing I love that we were taught is to say, “Don't be nice.” Don't pretend something happened just to make us feel better. God is the one doing the healing—He doesn't need false praise. All the glory belongs to Him. A few weeks ago, the Deacon felt the Lord wanted to heal that night. A woman in front of me raised her hand. Two of us prayed over her. She had severe stomach pain for months and couldn't even enjoy a recent cruise. That night, her pain was a 10. After just a few minutes of prayer, it dropped to a 2. Praise God—He is so good! The next day, I visited a friend with breathing issues. Doctors had found something in her lungs and needed more testing. I asked if I could pray for her, and she said yes. After praying, I asked if she felt anything. She said she felt peace come over her. Praise God! We didn't see everything right away, but I know God is taking care of her. He knew she needed peace in that moment. This past week, another woman asked for prayer. I didn't hear her need, so I prayed in tongues. When asked how she felt, she also said she felt peace. Thank you, God—I love it! Later, the Deacon said God was healing again and invited us to pray. I saw a woman raise her hand and went over. She had tightness and pain at about a 5 or 6. After prayer, it dropped to a 2. Praise God! She then mentioned feeling heavy pressure that kept her from standing. We are also taught to invite an act of faith—trying something they couldn't do before. I asked her to try standing, and she did, feeling a little better. We prayed again, giving all glory to God, and she improved even more. Later, she gave me a thumbs-up—and I saw her not just standing, but dancing. Praise God—you are amazing! These things are incredible—and they are happening every day. God wants to do this in your life too. These miracles didn't happen because we said the perfect words or did everything right. We're just learning. They didn't happen because we're special. They happened because the Deacon listened and was brave enough to say yes—and we were brave enough to respond. We stepped out, even when unsure. Even when afraid. Even when we didn't feel good enough. We believed what Jesus said in John 14. And here's the truth—you can too. God isn't using us because we're special. He's using us because we said yes. We want to be His hands and feet—and so we are. The same is true for you. You might be thinking this is amazing—but not for you. That's not true. Anyone can be used by God if they say yes. You may feel too broken, too weak, or not holy enough. But God has already used people just like you to do incredible things. Maybe you think you're too old. That's not true either. God doesn't need you to change first. He just needs your yes: “Yes, Lord, use me.” He will do the rest. I pray this witness plants a seed in your heart. Even if you're not ready to say yes today, I pray the Lord shows you how He wants to use you. And when you see it, hear it, or feel it, I pray you say, “Yes, Lord, use me.” I love you all so much, and I hope you have an incredible week! www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

Witness Wednesday #203 Catherine D. (Retreat) Today, I want to share about how the Lord can sometimes work in our lives. I went to a retreat in January with some of my big life mentoring sisters. There were about 20 of us there. We spent the time doing cool things like running in the ocean first thing in the morning, dressing in 80s gear, and doing jazzercise at a local restaurant. I had not met most of these people before. Aside from the cool activities planned, we also spent some time talking about what was going on in our lives and where we wanted to be at the end of the year. This wasn't easy, as many of us had never met, and sharing the intimate details of our lives was scary. Although once people started sharing their stories, the strangest thing happened: we realized even though we were all very different, we were also the same in a lot of ways. It was a great experience. A month or so after the retreat, I was talking to one of my new friends from the retreat. We were talking about our mentoring group and the various retreats our mentor Pamela Crim does, and my friend said she could see me doing something like that, mentoring and putting on retreats. The seed was planted. I was trying to figure out where to go with my business. I had thought about this type of thing before, but hearing someone else say she could see me doing it made it all seem a bit more real. I tend to be a slow mover. I get an idea, and I talk myself out of it for quite a while. Do you ever do this? You come up with an idea and then don't act on it because that inside voice tells you a million reasons why it won't work. One day, I was at Eucharistic Adoration when I felt the Holy Spirit telling me I needed to plan a retreat for that summer. So, of course, I obeyed and started planning right away, right? Wrong. I did what I always do when the Holy Spirit directs me. I asked a bunch of questions. Here are some of those questions: “This summer, are you sure? The summer is just a few months away. Who will even come to this retreat?” I felt as if the Holy Spirit said, “You just book a place and time, and I will get the people there.” “Ok, I said, but what about the theme of the retreat? What do you want us to do there? What will I talk about? Will I be the only speaker?” Again, I felt I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Once you book the place, I will give you more details.” I really felt as if the Holy Spirit was wanting me to step out in faith. I started calling retreat centers to see if anyone had availability this close to summer. Most places did not, and the ones that did were too expensive. I wasn't sure who would attend, but I knew I wanted to make it affordable for everyone. The price was going to be at least $400 at the places I was finding. I was getting frustrated and wanted to give up. I felt the Holy Spirit prompt me to email my prayer group to see if any of them would want to go on a retreat and whether $400 was too expensive. I also asked if they even wanted a sleepover retreat. Maybe I should just do a daytime retreat or a one-day retreat. Many said yes to a retreat, most said stay over retreat, which I felt confirmed what I felt I was getting from the Holy Spirit. A few said they could go if it were $400; however, many said it was too much. Again, confirming my thoughts. I decided to ask a few people if they knew any retreat places. I am not sure how I happened upon the Holy Cross Retreat Center, and yet I am so glad I did! This retreat center was affordable, and the person I talked to was so nice. They have many retreats there each year, and yet they are always the same type of retreat. This fall will be the first time they open their doors to outside groups for retreats. They do not have a minimum number of people I have to have. They are completely redoing all the rooms with new paint, new beds, and new mattresses. They already redid the bathrooms, so by the time we get there, it will look like a whole new place. I was so excited that it was all coming together. I was amazed at how the Holy Spirit led me to find the perfect place. Now that it was really happening, I had to start thinking about the theme, who to invite, and how much it would cost. Oh, that is another way the Holy Spirit was guiding the details. The only weekend available, aside from Thanksgiving weekend, was October 6-8. That is the same weekend our prayer group is starting a Life in the Spirit Seminar on Friday. However, it is a long weekend, and many people may have Monday off. So I did my retreat from Saturday to Monday instead of Friday to Sunday. It all worked out perfectly. I knew the Holy Spirit would make sure those who needed this retreat could attend it. My hope was that anyone who needed this retreat could come, even if they couldn't afford it. I included a donation option on the registration page so that people who can't pay can still come. I was able to have at least one person attend for free, and a few others I was able to pay for at least half of the cost. I was excited to watch it all unfold, and it was exciting to see what the Lord had planned. I truly feel as though He poured His love out on His children. I feel He filled them up with His love and also provided some inner healing. I think the connection with other people who are also on this faith journey was important as well. I had 11 people attend, and it was an amazing weekend. This is one way I have opened up my heart and let the Lord lead me into a new adventure. It has been an amazing journey so far. Witness Wednesday #203 Catherine D. (Airplane trip) Today, I want to witness to you about how much God is in the small things. We've had so many wonderful witnesses, and they have all been so different. Some have shared God's presence through miracles in their day-to-day lives, while others have shared extraordinary miracles. That is the reason I created “Witness Wednesdays”—so everyone can see all the different ways God is working in our lives. I have asked several people if they would like to give a witness, and many have said they don't have anything to share. They know God is working in their lives, but not in any dramatic way. They say their lives are ordinary or even boring. I understand what they mean. They haven't had angels appear or miraculous healings to report. But that doesn't mean there is nothing to witness about. Today, my witness is about an ordinary experience where God showed up in many small ways. I love the miraculous ways God shows up—healings, angels, supernatural moments. I love hearing about all of it! But there is also something really special about noticing God in the small, everyday details. When God performs big miracles, we praise Him and clearly recognize His hand. But how often do we praise Him for the little ways He steps in to help us? Do we even realize it's Him, or do we call it a coincidence or luck? God's presence in the small moments shows that He isn't doing it for praise—He does it because He truly loves us. Today I want to tell you about the time I took a space-A flight home from Germany with my three boys by myself. At the time, they were six, four, and two years old. My husband wasn't traveling with us, so we were at the bottom of the flight list. We spent several days waiting at the airport, unsure if we would get on a flight. It was stressful at times. The first way I saw God working was in how well my kids handled it. There were other kids to play with on the base, and instead of being bored and overwhelmed, they were having fun. The parents were calm, and everyone was patient. It may seem like a small thing, but I truly believe God orchestrated that whole week. Eventually, I got tickets—but was told I had to move my car to long-term parking. I had no idea how I would do that with three kids, car seats, and luggage. I stood there completely overwhelmed. Then a man I didn't know offered to move my van for me. That moment still brings tears to my eyes. God saw my need and provided help exactly when I needed it. Then came boarding the plane. I was told I had to hold all three of my children's hands, but I only have two hands—and I was also carrying everything. I didn't know how I would do it. Before I could even figure it out, another woman traveling with her teenage children stepped in. Without hesitation, each of her kids took one of my children's hands and helped carry their things. We were able to get on the plane together. Even when we landed, they helped us again. Looking back, it would be easy to call all of this coincidence or luck. But what are the chances? Out of so many flights and so many people, everything lined up perfectly. God knew exactly what I would need. What could have been a very stressful trip was made easier by all the small ways He stepped in. Sometimes it's easy to overlook God in our everyday lives. We celebrate the big miracles but miss the quiet ones—the perfectly timed help, the moments when everything just works out. God is working in our lives every single day, even in the smallest details. I want to encourage you to think about the ways God has shown up in your life—not just the big moments, but the small ones. Think about times when everything came together in a way that felt almost impossible. That is God. The more we notice His work, the more we can praise Him for it—and the more we will see it. I love you all! Thank you so much for listening, and I can't wait to hear your story. www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

Today I want to witness to you about a really cool experience I had with the Holy Spirit. I was at a retreat, and I was new to going on retreats. This was one of the first ones I went on. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was also pretty new to Eucharistic Adoration. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do during adoration. I had heard people at the retreat say that they could feel the Holy Spirit at the retreat. I didn't know what they were talking about. I wanted to feel the Holy Spirit, too. When I went to Adoration, I asked God to help me feel the Holy Spirit. I asked Him if He could do something so I would know that the Holy Spirit was actually there with me. I asked God this, and then I just sat for a few minutes and waited. I sat expectantly waiting for something to happen, but not really knowing what would happen. I closed my eyes, and a bright white dot of light appeared. My eyes were closed, but I could see this bright dot of light dancing around, almost as if it were on the back of my eyelids. I was afraid to open my eyes because I didn't want it to leave. I knew this was the answer to my prayers. I knew that light was the Holy Spirit showing me that He was there with me. I can't really explain how I knew; I just knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was the Holy Spirit. This happened about 10 years ago. I have thought about it since then, but not too often. Last Thursday night, I was at a Conference put on by Encounter Ministries. It was an amazing conference, and the Holy Spirit was definitely there. There was a time on Thursday evening when we had a talk about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We had prayed, we worshiped, and then we called the Holy Spirit to come down upon all of us. When I was sitting in the pew, I closed my eyes, and instead of seeing a bright white dot of light, my whole vision was filled with that same blinding light. I felt like my body was full of that light. The Holy Spirit reminded me of that time back at that first retreat, and I felt as though He was telling me, " See how far we have come. I started as a small light inside of you, and my light is filling you up. It was such an amazing feeling. I was filled with so much joy, and love. The other time I wanted to talk with you about today is when the Holy Spirit asked me to step way outside of my comfort zone. I am an extrovert. I love to be around people. Being around people fills my soul with joy. At the same time, I am shy. I do not like to walk up to people I don't know and talk to them. I am always self-conscious and think, what if they reject me? What if they don't want to talk to me? What if I am bothering them? I get super nervous, and when I get nervous sometimes, oftentimes, I cry. I am not sad, I am just so nervous I cry. Then I feel dumb for crying, and so I cry more. I don't know if some of you relate to this or not, but it is something that is true for me. I decided about three or four years ago that I wanted to go on a retreat. I hadn't been on one in a little while and I felt I needed it. I looked online one day and found out there was a silent retreat the very next weekend. I was so excited. It felt like it was meant to be, as what are the odds that I would look right then and find one that was coming up so soon and was so close. When I arrived, we had a quick meeting to meet the other people on the retreat and meet our advisors, and then we went silent. The only time we could talk was at our meeting with the spiritual advisor we were assigned once or twice that weekend. At this initial meeting, we all told why we were there and a little about ourselves. There was a man there who was suffering from some illness, and if I remember correctly, they weren't sure what it was. I think his wife was sick too. I just remember feeling bad that he was sick. Before going on this retreat, I had been to a life in the spirit seminar and had been attending a charismatic prayer group. I had a baptism in the Holy Spirit, but at this point, I could not speak in tongues. While I was out for a walk on the grounds, I was having a talk with God about how I couldn't speak in tongues. I was explaining to God how I wanted this gift, I was open to it, and so I didn't understand why I hadn't received it yet. Then I heard God say, well, not heard like heard His voice, but heard in my soul, “It's not me, it's you.” I instantly knew what God was saying. I understood that He was saying He wasn't keeping me from receiving this gift; I was keeping myself from it because I didn't believe I was good enough to receive it. I was thinking, "Why would He give the gift to me?" and He was saying, "Why wouldn't I?” Once I realized I was the one holding myself back, I finally submitted and accepted that God wanted to give me this gift, even if I wasn't good enough for it. We are worthy of the gifts of the Spirit not because of anything we have done, but we are worthy because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. I went to the chapel at the retreat center, started praying, and received the gift of tongues. I was so happy. Later that night, I was reading a book, and I felt the Holy Spirit tell me I needed to pray for the guy who was sick. I instantly answered with a no. You know me, I don't just walk up to people and ask them if I can pray over them. I know lots of people who do that, but I don't. The Holy Spirit was not letting me off the hook. I tried to explain that I couldn't talk; it was a silent retreat, and it just wasn't going to work. But then the Holy Spirit reminded me we could talk after mass on Sunday, before we left. Once I realized that the feeling I needed to pray over this man wasn't going away, I started to pray. I explained to God, like He didn't already know, that I was really afraid to just go up to people and ask them if I could pray over them. What if they said no? Then I would feel dumb, probably start to cry, and be embarrassed. As you can imagine, God already knew this, so He wasn't swayed. I explained to God that if He wanted me to do this, I would try, I really would, but He was going to have to give me some extraordinary courage, and He was going to have to arrange a meeting that was somewhat natural. Meaning we would have to run into each other when it was appropriate. For instance, I couldn't interrupt the mass to do it. Writing this for you now, I can see how silly this sounds. How silly it is for me to be telling God exactly what I need, like he doesn't already know, but this is what I did. The next day was Sunday. I went to church, and it was a weird feeling because I wanted to run into this man, and I didn't at the same time. I really wanted to pray over him, but I didn't want the awkwardness of asking him. Also, I was new to praying over people, and I didn't want to screw it up. I was walking down the hallway, and I saw the man. It was the perfect setup, right? I mean, with God orchestrating things, how could it not be? So I went up to the man and asked if I could pray over him, or that is what I wish I had done. But I didn't. I walked right past him, I walked into the restroom, and I had a little chat with God. Ok, I am sorry. I know that was the perfect chance, and I blew it. I wanted to, but I just couldn't. If you give me another chance, I will try again. Later, after lunch, we were all getting ready to go, and I saw the man in a different hallway, and we were alone. I said, “I know this may sound weird, but I really feel as if the Holy Spirit wants me to pray over you. Would you mind?” He was very nice and said he didn't mind. I started to pray over him, and of course, I started to cry because I was so nervous. He felt bad that I was crying and told me not to worry, it wasn't as if he was dying. I felt silly for crying as I wasn't sad; I was just nervous. However, I was happy that I had done what the Holy Spirit asked me to do, and I knew the next time I said yes, it would be a little easier. I still struggle when the Holy Spirit asks me to pray over people I don't know, and I still have times when I argue and try to convince the Holy Spirit that I am not the right one for the job. However, I am growing and learning and getting stronger, and as I always say, God is looking for progress, not perfection. I believe He remembers the times I said yes more than the times I said no. I hope by sharing this witness, you will see if you ask the Holy Spirit to show up, He will show up. Also, although the Holy Spirit may ask you to step outside your comfort zone, He will always be right there with you and give you the strength and boldness you need to do what He is asking. All we need to do is say yes, and He will take care of the rest. www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace
Witness Wednesday #201 Catherine D When I was praying about what to witness about today, the Lord brought to my mind my grandpa, my dad's father. One night, we were sitting around the kitchen table, and we got a phone call from my grandpa. He said he was watching TV and all the lights in his house were off. He just had one light on in the TV room. So somebody thought he wasn't home and tried to break into his house. They were trying to break in through the door with a screwdriver, and the screwdriver hit the window, and my grandpa thought someone had knocked on the door. So he went out, and he opened the door to see who it was, and the young man pushed his way in. Then he asked my grandfather for his money, his wallet, and anything else he had. My grandfather didn't have much cash or many valuable things. The man pushed him down, and he took the screwdriver, and he cut my grandpa's throat from one ear to the other almost. His whole throat was cut. Luckily, my grandfather didn't die, and he was actually able to call my parents. He called our house, and my sister was on the line with her boyfriend, but we had call waiting at the time, thank goodness. So she clicked over, and it was my grandpa, and my parents kept him on the phone until the ambulance could come. Then they went to meet him at the hospital. My brother Danny also went to meet him at the hospital. As my grandfather was recovering, he actually got a visit from not one but two bishops in the area. I'm not sure if they were there visiting other people, or if they went there just to see my grandpa. Although I do know my grandpa helped out a lot at the church. When the doctors were examining my grandpa, they said that his neck healed faster than they had ever seen before. They didn't expect him to recover as quickly as he did. I was in seventh or eighth grade at the time, so I'm not sure how long he was in there. It probably felt like forever for me because he's my grandpa and he was in the hospital. I did go to visit him once while he was in there, and it was scary for me because it looked like he had staples in his neck. I don't know, it could have just been stitches. But for me, as a kid, it reminded me of Frankenstein, and it was a little scary, especially since it was my grandpa. I wanted to witness about how quickly he healed, and the doctor said it was miraculous because it should have taken him much longer. Then, when I was out for my run this morning, I felt like God was telling me to witness about my Encounter Ministries class. I know I have talked about it on here, and you can go back and look. I testified about an Encounter Ministries healing session we did. At least one. I think I might have witnessed about two. But today I just want to tell you how great the program is in general, and I also want to talk about inner healing in particular. The program itself is really good. The first quarter is all about identity, and so it teaches us who we are as children of God. Who we are in God's eyes, in the eyes, and spends eight weeks reinforcing our identity as Christ's children. Then, the next eight weeks, we spent listening to God's voice and hearing words of prophecy, words of knowledge, and words of wisdom, hearing blessings, and then being able to share those with other people and those blessings to bless others. After that, the next eight weeks we spent on physical healing, and we got to pray over people with physical ailments and see them healed. We got to see them feeling better, and it was so amazing. One testimony about this quarter was that we had a priest who was taking the class with us. He had one leg slightly shorter than the other, so he had to wear a lift in one shoe. However, at the end of each class, we do activations where we put into practice everything we have learned. That day, we learned that it was possible to pray for people with uneven legs, and that God can grow their legs to be the same length. We saw a video of this happening at a healing event in Mexico. My classmates prayed over the priest, and his leg grew out. He no longer needed a lift in his shoe! God is so good! And then the last eight weeks were on inner healing, and those eight weeks were the most transformative for many students, because as we went through and learned about the various exercises, we also got to practice them on each other, and so we got to experience that inner healing. And inner healing is all about freedom. God doesn't want things weighing on you. He doesn't want us to close our hearts off and not let anyone in, just so we don't get hurt again. He doesn't want our past trauma and our past wounds to affect our future. He doesn't want depression and anxiety weighing down on us and making us miserable. God wants us to be free, and he wants to help us become free. When we're in a difficult situation, as we're growing up, things happen, and then we form a lie about that thing. We tell ourselves something that's not true, and then it informs every decision after that. Many times, we don't realize we have formed a lie. We didn't consciously do it, and we don't know it is there, but it informs all our decisions. During an inner healing session, you talk about what has happened in your past. You ask God to bring up any memories that need healing. You ask God to show you any lies that you might have developed over the years, and then you renounce those lies, and then you ask God to replace those lies with truth, and then you declare those truths. We just had an inner healing practicum, and several people said after their session that they felt so much lighter. They said they literally felt a weight lifted off of them. They felt lighter, and they felt freer, and I just want to offer to all of you listening, this is available to you, too. If you need prayers for physical healing or for inner healing, reach out to me. I'm happy to pray with you, and if you know me really well and you want to pray with someone you don't know well, I'm happy to point you to one of my fellow students. Everybody in the class wants to help people be free. We want to share what we've learned with everyone we know because we want everyone to be able to live the life God intended for them, free. I'm going to be talking more about the Encounter Ministries class and the physical healing and the inner healing and all the things we've learned in the class over the year more on my Facebook page because I feel like the Holy Spirit's prompting me to share more about the class and about what we've learned and about the freedom that people can have if you're not already following me on Facebook and you want to learn more about Encounter Ministries. Also on Facebook, you can look up the Encounter School of Ministry Boston campus to see all the cool things they're doing, and if you're local, you can go to some of the events they're hosting. Okay, that's it for my witness this week. I just want to ask again if anyone would like to give a witness. Please let me know. I know that everybody really loves listening on Wednesdays because they get to hear from other people, not just me, and because they get to see the cool things God's doing in other people's lives. So please share your witnesses. Witness Wednesday #199 Catherine D. Today I would like to share with you a witness about how God came through at the last minute. He does this sometimes. Sometimes it can feel like He is not there, like He didn't hear your prayers, and then just when you think all is lost, He comes through. Last September, I went to Ecuador for my niece's baptism. This was a really big deal for me, as my niece was born at 27 weeks and almost didn't survive. That is a witness for another time. She was in the hospital for 4 months, and just as she got to leave the hospital and go home, COVID happened. She had to stay in her house for over a year. Her grandparents, my brother-in-law's parents, couldn't come here from Ecuador to meet her, and they couldn't travel there due to the pandemic. So, this past September, right before my niece turned 2, they decided to have her baptized in Ecuador. They had asked me to be the Godmother, and I was honored to make the trip to celebrate this amazing occasion. She is a miracle baby for so many reasons, and I was looking forward to being a part of bringing this beautiful girl into the church. My mom and dad traveled down a week early with my sister, brother-in-law, and my niece. Then I was traveling with my mother-in-law, Joanie, as she also loves to travel. The beginning of our trip shows how God shows up in all the details. We had a really early morning flight, and then we had a long layover in Florida. When I say long, I mean we had a 12-hour layover in FL. We were both wondering what we would do to pass the time. We thought about leaving the airport and looking around the city, but we had our luggage, and we didn't really want to walk around town carrying our luggage. I was praying about this on our flight to FL, and the thought came to me that we could rent a car. This way we could keep our luggage in the trunk and drive around the town. Once we landed and got to the car rental place, it turned out it was very inexpensive to rent the car for the day. We were all set and on our way. We drove to the beach, we walked along the boardwalk, we got ice cream, we drove through a beautiful scenic park, and we even got out and went for a nice walk through the park. We had a fantastic day and made it back to the airport in plenty of time to make our next flight. God was in all the details of that day, and He worked things out perfectly for us. This next part of our journey is where things got a little bumpy. We had been traveling since about 4 am. We arrived in Ecuador at about 11 pm. We were tired and ready to get to the hotel and get some sleep. My brother-in-law had our flight info, but we had no way to reach him as our phones did not have international service. This wasn't really a problem as our flight was not delayed, and he could always check with the airport if it had been. Joanie and I wait in the line to go through passport control. We finally get up to passport control, and we can see the door to go out to meet all those waiting to pick you up. We hand over our passports, and the man looks at them, then he looks at us. Then he calls over someone else, and he looks at them, they talk in Spanish, which I don't speak, and I can see the one he called over shaking his head. I start to get nervous. I ask if there is a problem. He said, yes, I am sorry, ma'am, but your passport expires in less than 6 months. No, it does not expire until March of 2022 and we are in September of 2021. He explained that in order for me to enter the country, I have to be at least 6 months away from my expiration date. We looked at my passport, which expired on March 6th, and I landed on March 16th. He said they will only give a 10-day grace period, and I was already at my 10 days. Are you getting this? If I had traveled one week earlier, I would have been fine, but since my passport was going to expire in less than 6 months, 6 months, I couldn't stay. I had this sinking feeling in my stomach, and I asked what that meant. He said he was going to ask his supervisor, and he was going to try to see what he could do, but it probably meant that I would have to get back on a plane that night and go back to America. Joanie and I were so confused. We didn't know what to do. They asked if she wanted to stay, but she said she was with me; if I had to go, she was going home too. The man left us standing there for what felt like a really long time and went to talk to his supervisor. I told Joanie we needed to pray, and we both started to pray. We prayed that God would work some miracle. We prayed that we would get to go to the baptism. I pleaded with God, I begged Him to work his magic and not let them send me home. I praised God and thanked Him, I did and said everything I could think of in that moment, and you know what? It didn't work. The man came back and said he was really sorry, there was nothing he could do, we had to wait for someone from the airlines to come and escort us back to the other part of the airport so we could get on a plane and go back home. Go home without seeing my family, without a way of telling them what is going on, without seeing my niece being baptized. I was heartbroken, and so was Joanie. Even though we were heartbroken, do you know what I told Joanie? It's not too late. We are not back in America yet. We don't have a new ticket yet. We can't give up. Yes, we had done all we could humanly do to help ourselves, but God is the God of the impossible, and He is a way maker. He makes a way where there is no way. I had a chat with God. I told Him that I appreciated all He had done for us that day. I told him how extremely grateful I was that He saved Charlize and that I got to be her Godmother. I let Him know that if he wanted us to get on a plane and go back to America, then we would obey. I also told Him that I knew it wasn't too late for Him to fix this. I told Him I wasn't giving up on the idea that we would make it to the baptism. I told Him that I loved Him, that He is amazing, and that whatever He wanted in that moment was what we wanted. I said, Lord, we believe, help our unbelief. Then I prayed in the Spirit because, honestly, I had no idea what to pray for or what to say. I had no idea how the situation could be fixed, but I knew the Holy Spirit could convey the messages in my heart much better than I could. We sat there for about 20 minutes just waiting for someone from the airlines to come and get us so we could go back home. Then, all of a sudden, the man from passport control walked over, and he said they worked it out and they were going to let us go into the country. He said we were very lucky as they never do this, but they will make this one exception. He was surprised. I told him it wasn't luck, it was the power of prayer. I tell you, I have never been so excited to see my brother-in-law as I was that day walking through those passport control doors. God is so good! He really is. If you are listening to this podcast, then I know you already know this, but we should say it again and again. We should say it often because He really is that good. We don't just say He is the WayMaker, or the God of the Impossible, because it sounds good or because they are cool names. We say it because it is who God is. He really does make the impossible possible. He makes a way where there isn't one. There was no logical reason why they let me through that night. We should have been put on a plane and sent back to America, and yet that was not what God wanted, so He made a way for us to stay. I know you have seen similar things like this in your life. If you haven't, I don't think it's because they aren't happening; I think it's because you aren't looking for them. God is working in every detail of our lives. If we want to see Him working in our lives more, all we need to do is open our eyes more and look for Him. www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

On this episode of the Glossy Beauty Podcast, Pop editor Sara Spruch-Feiner is joined by Catherine D'Aragon, CEO of First Aid Beauty, to discuss the brand's recent rebrand — its first in its near-20-year lifespan — and its decision to partner with Team USA ahead of the Winter Olympics. The conversation comes at a time when beauty brands are increasingly showing up at the Olympics — from athlete partnerships and product seeding (First Aid gifted all Team USA members) to behind-the-scenes content and performance-focused skin care. Brands including Fenty Beauty, L'Oréal Paris and Glossier have previously activated around the Olympics, as has First Aid Beauty's parent company, Procter & Gamble. Procter & Gamble also owns Gillette Venus, which is sponsoring U.S. Figure Skating athletes Alysa Liu, Isabeau Levito, and Starr Andrews. The discussion also explores why beauty brands are increasingly turning to athletes, how First Aid Beauty is positioning itself around simplicity and skin "support" in a crowded skin-care market, and how the brand plans to translate a global sporting moment into long-term relevance.

Our palliative care system may be waning as demand grows, prompting a push for action. We've fallen from third in the world in palliative care access ten years ago, to 12th place. An article in the New Zealand Medical Journal finds we have less than a third of the recommended number of specialists per capita, and many are nearing retirement. Author Dr Catherine D'Souza told Mike Hosking that we lack the funding to train more specialists, despite having ample opportunity and space to do so. She says that the number of people dying is going to double in the next thirty years, and if we don't take action quickly, already struggling health services are going to struggle even more and fall apart. Today, I want to tell you about the retreat I had a few weekends ago. I felt like I would have more people at this retreat than last year. I did have many more people I invited who said they were interested in coming. However, most said they wanted to go but could not make it for the weekend that I booked the retreat house. Three weeks before the retreat, I asked the retreat director, Nancy, a question, and at that time, I only had four people signed up. She told me that she could not pay her staff to come in for just four people. I totally understood this and yet was devastated that I may have to cancel the retreat.Nancy was super sweet and said that I could still use the retreat house to have the retreat, I would just need to provide the food. She said she would reduce the amount of money that I needed to pay to use the retreat house and that she and her husband would take care of reheating the food, picking up takeout, or helping with whatever we decided to do for food for the weekend. She said she didn't want me to have to cancel on those who had already signed up. I prayed about it and felt like the Lord still wanted me to have the retreat, even if it was just for four people.Over the course of the next few weeks, I had four more people sign up, so we were up to 8. Then, two of them had things come up, and they were unable to come. We were down to 6, but with me, that was seven, and I thought that was an ok number. I had wanted more to come, but I understood that people had things going on that weekend. About a week before the retreat, I talked with a friend of mine, and she said she was able to come. This brought us up to 8, including myself. I thought that was a pretty good number. Then, the Wednesday before, another friend asked if she could come. She said she didn't originally sign up because she needed to cover for someone at church, but that person came home from her trip early, and she was free to come. Then, on Friday morning, another friend called up and asked if it was too late for her to come. She really needed a retreat weekend and was wondering if she could come. I checked with the retreat house, and Nancy said it was not a problem. So, the final count was 10 of us at the retreat. I thought this number was small, but those in attendance were happy that there weren't too many people because it meant they didn't have to be nervous spending the weekend with 40 other women that they didn't know. They all got to know each other pretty well. By the end of the weekend, they were hugging each other, exchanging numbers and Facebook profiles, and promising to keep in touch. It was such a great weekend, and it was really great to see the beginning of what I know will be some amazing friendships. I think that is part of the magic of retreat. There are so many nice parts about the retreat: the talks, the activities, and the food, but one of the best is the fellowship with others going through the same kind of stuff. We may not all be going through the exact same stuff, but we are all going through stuff, and to get the opportunity to spend a weekend with other people who are going through stuff and who also love Jesus is a great thing!Remember above when I said Nancy said I could still use the retreat house, but I would need to provide the food? I was trying to think of what I should do for food. I thought maybe I could do takeout, like pizza and pasta, or maybe grinders. However, now there were ten people, and takeout would get expensive. And what would I order that everyone would like? I decided it would be good to do casseroles. This way, I could make them ahead of time throughout the week, and it wouldn't be a lot of work for Nancy and her husband. They could just put them in the oven to reheat them.I spoke with my sister Liz, who is a master party planner. Well, her day job is as a counselor, but her passion is party planning, and she is so good at it. She also loves meal planning and meal prep. She said she could come over the weekend before, and we could make stuff and freeze it. She and another sister, Dee, came over the Sunday before, and we made four quiche, two nondairy egg casseroles, beef stew, chicken noodle soup, and two ranch chicken and potato casseroles. It was amazing because it only took a few hours, and yet we had both days of breakfast taken care of; we had one dinner and one lunch taken care of. I had decided the other dinner would be a chicken and stuffing casserole that I couldn't make in advance because it is not great to freeze stovetop stuffing. I was also going to cook up some hamburger meat for the second lunch so we could have tacos. What seemed like it was going to be really difficult turned out to be really easy, and everyone ended up really happy with the food. When it finally came time for the actual retreat, it was amazing! Everyone hit a lot of traffic, so we started late, and yet no one seemed to mind. We started with introductions, and then we ate dinner together. Over the course of the weekend, I gave four talks on the theme's topic, which was “Come as you Are,” and then I gave two other talks. One was on the reckless love God has for us, and one was on how endless God's forgiveness is. We also had some free time, Confession and Mass were also available for those who wanted to go. We did an illuminated Rosary where we had tea light candles laid out in the formation of rosary beads, and we lit each candle, well, turned each candle on, as we said each prayer. It was beautiful. We also had three people who were healed of pain during the retreat. My sister's back had been hurting her the whole car ride to retreat and for the whole night at retreat. She mentioned it before going to be, so I asked if I could pray over her for healing. She agreed, and God healed all the pain in her back. She was able to go to sleep with no pain, and it did not return. Another woman had fallen several months ago and hurt her elbow. She also had a brace on her wrist because she was told it was bone on bone in her wrist. I asked if I could pray over her for healing, and she said yes. After a few minutes of prayer, God took away some of her wrist pain. She was hesitant to move the wrist too much to test if it was pain-free because if she moved it a certain way, it was pretty painful. However, 30 minutes later, she was moving it all around pain-free! Hallelujah, God is so good!!Finally, my niece was also on retreat. She came up to me on Sunday morning and said that she needed me to pray over her foot. She said it had been sore for several weeks now, and it wasn't going away. She was wearing support in her shoe, and that was helping, but she just wanted the pain gone. It was funny, too, because when I pray using the Encounter Ministries model, I always begin by asking them to ask Jesus if He wants to heal them. When I asked her, she didn't even hesitate. She immediately said, “Yes, I know He wants to heal me. He said it's time to end this,” or something like that. She was so confident God would heal her, and I thought that was such a beautiful thing. I prayed for a few minutes over her foot, and then she walked around to test it out. The pain was gone. Her foot was healed. It was amazing and wonderful. She was so happy! We all just marveled at how good God was throughout the whole weekend. Several of the ladies said that they had breakthroughs while they were journaling through the various info they learned on retreat.God is so good. If you have never been to a retreat, I invite you to find one and to go. I know many of us think retreats are just for holy people. Yet, the reality is they are for everyday people who love the Lord and just want to have some time away from other people who love the Lord. Regardless of what the retreat topic is or what is planned for the retreat, just that time away from life where you can focus on God is enough to make it worth it. Give it a try, what have you got to lose? I hope you will consider joining me on my next retreat. I will keep you posted on when that is. I am hoping to find somewhere to have one in the springtime. www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace
Today I decided I would do the Witness Wednesday as it has been a while since I have done one and God has definitely been working in my life. I think it is just as important to talk about the little ways God is working in our lives as it is to talk about the big ways He is working in our lives. Today I will give you an update on how I can see Him blessing me and my life.First, I will start with Noah going off to school. Noah applied to schools pretty late in the year compared to when I remember applying to schools. He also didn't apply to a lot of schools. He knew where he wanted to go, so he just applied to a handful of schools. Noah's dream was to go overseas, and so most of the schools he applied to were in the United Kingdom. (England, Scotland, & Wales). Noah decided to go to Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. He found this out at the beginning of June. This meant we had three months to get all of the stuff in order so he could get there on time.Going to school in another country is a lot of work, at least initially. We had so many hoops to jump through. We had to do all the regular stuff like find a place to live and register. However, it just seemed so much harder than I remember it being. He also needed to do things I didn't have to do when I went to school in the states, like get a visa. It was a long and tiring procedure, but the Lord was with us through all of it.For instance by the time we figured everything out and were able to apply for his visa it was August 14th. However they said the visa could take up to 15 working days to come in. If it took 15 working days then he wouldn't be able to arrive in country until his first day of classes. This would have been ok, but he would likely have missed at least one day of classes while we got him settled in. However, thanks to the Lord, and the good people at the passport place, we got his visa back in about one week. We were not able to buy plane a plane ticket until we had it back. So once it came were were able to find pretty affordable tickets as well.I got to go with Noah to get him settled into school. I was nervous about leaving Noah in another country where he didn't know anyone. I am sure most moms feel this way when their kids go off to school. However, I had the added worry of it being in another country. Thanks to the Lord, I was able to mostly focus on the fact that this was an awesome adventure for Noah and that he was going to have such a great time. However, I still hated that he was all alone. The second day we were there we went to their “Walmart” like store where they have a post office. We had to go here to try and pick up Noah's residency permit. While we were shopping around we met another student there. He happened to also be going to Napier. He and Noah talked and they are both engineering majors. Not the same type of engineering, but that meant they would both be walking to the same campus from their dorms. They also found out of all the doors they have at Napier they would be living in the same building, just one floor apart. It was pretty cool! We also met his parents and exchanged info. Now, suddenly I wasn't doing all of this alone. They were there to help along the way. We both sent text messages at the end of the day with what we had accomplished that day and any new information we found out. It was super helpful. Thank you Lord.Noah moved into his dorm on a Saturday and I went home on Monday morning. Saturday morning we took and Uber over to the dorm and moved his clothes and stuff he brought from home in. Then we spend the day shopping and getting the rest of what he needed. Then we went out and got some food also as he is living in an apartment and there is no meal plan there. The next day we went to lunch and more grocery shopping. Then I had to say goodbye. That was hard, and yet I know the Lord is with Him and that this is going to be an amazing year for him, and I am so excited for all he will get to experience.Next I want to tell you all about my new jobs. It is funny how the Lord works, because I knew this fall was going to be some kind of breakthrough. I knew something was going to change, I just didn't know what. I had been praying about going back to work outside of the home. I decided I would go back to substitute teaching a few days a week. It would be a way where I could help contribute to the family income more than I have been and with Noah in school and Sam having his license, I only really have to drive Ryan around these days. One morning I was out to breakfast with a friend of mine and she mentioned she was looking to hire more coaches at her job. She told me about the job and it sounded great. I would be coaching people with autism. It was perfect for me as I love coaching and I love helping people. It felt like an answer to prayers as I really didn't want to give up coaching and get having your own coaching practice takes a lot of time to build and over the last few years I decided I wanted to spend more time with the kids while they were still at home with me. This was perfect because I still get to coach but I don't have to find my own clients. This means I will have more time to spend with my family.I was excited about both of these jobs and felt like the Lord had really taken care of all my needs. I did feel like I would still like to do some more ministry type work but that I would figure that out once both my jobs started and I could see how much time I would have left. I begin my coaching job in two weeks, so we will see what kind of time commitment that is. It is supposed to be 5-20 hours of coaching per week, but depending on how much I am driving it could be more than that. I was happy with how things were going. One day out of the blue a friend from my Encounter Ministries class reached out and said she had a possible job offer if I was interested in hearing more about it. She said it would be working with women who have a homeless ministry. They live together and go out and do this ministry together. Their is a priest that overseas the ministry, however, they were looking for a woman who could be like a house mom or a spiritual mother to these young women. I was so excited when I heard about this opportunity. I love helping people along on their spiritual journey and I love that they do homeless ministry as the Lord has put that on my heart as well.I talked with my friend all about it and then she passed my name onto the priest in charge. He gave me a call and we both felt like it would be a great opportunity for me and for the young women. I wondered it if would be too much with the jobs I had just taken and the priest said he was thinking about 3 hours per week. It sounded perfect. One of my passions is healing ministry. I am sure if you have listened to several of my podcast episodes you have heard me talk about healing in one way or another. The priest said he is going to do a study with the ladies in the home using the Bob Shutes “Be Healed” prayer model. This is about healing the whole self. I read the book for my Encounter Ministries quarter on inner healing and it was amazing. So, not only do I get to do what I love, which is walk spiritually with these women, but I also get to sit in on this study and learn more about healing. God is so good. He knew not only what I need, to stay coaching and yet make money, but also what I longed for, which is to walk with people on their spiritual journey. The last thing I want to witness to is what happened when I was lucky enough to meet these women on Monday. They invited me into their home for evening prayer, mass, dinner, and the start of the Bob Shutes video series. It was such a beautiful time and these ladies are so kind and caring. They made me feel so warm and welcomed. They were happy to see me and that felt so great! They didn't even know me and yet were so so kind. After dinner was over while they were clearing the dishes somehow we got on the topic of healing. I mentioned how I prayed over my aunt and the Lord healed the pain in her foot. One of the ladies said she had just been thinking about the pain in her foot and asked if I would pray sometime for her. I told her we could do it before I left. Another one of the ladies said the doctor just confirmed that she had a sprained ligament in her left wrist. It was funny to me as it was the same sort of pain that my son Ryan is having in his left wrist.First I prayed over her foot. I prayed for just a minute or two and asked her what she was feeling. She said tingling in her hands. I asked her to move her foot around, to walk on it and see if there was any change. She said the pain was gone. She was in awe at the power of God. She really couldn't believe it was gone. She said it was a really weird feeling. Next, I prayed over the sprained wrist. I prayed for a few minutes and asked what she was feeling. She was honest and said she was feeling skepticism in her heart. I asked if she wanted to renounce that the spirit of doubt and she said yes. then I ask if anything else was coming up. She renounced the belief that Jesus didn't care about something as little as her sprained wrist. I asked her to ask Jesus where He was right now, and she felt like He said, “in your wrist.” I asked her to test out her wrist. To move it around in the way that previously hurt her. She did and the pain was completely gone. She was in awe, all the ladies were. It was so hard to believe that God cares about our little pains as it wasn't super painful. Both ladies said the pain was about a four out of ten. So, not unbearable and yet, when we ask God, He answers. It was such an amazing experience meeting these ladies and getting to spend a few hours with them. In just a few hours I could tell what extraordinary women they all are. I could see Christ shining through them and I could see how much the love the Lord. I am not sure what is in store for me and these ladies and yet I know I will be seeing them again and that God has something amazing planned for all of us. I can see that He is blessing their ministry and blessing them and it is beautiful.I hope when you hear this you can see how God as working in all of this. I hope this helps you see how God is working in your life as well. It doesn't have to be in big ways, like getting to witness God healing. It can be in the little things, like getting the visa back in time so we could get plane tickets so Noah could be there for the start of classes. I am grateful for all the ways God is working in my life. There have been so many things even just over the last few months. I will do another witness Wednesday soon, as I have forgotten how great it feels to look back over your life and see all the ways God is working in it. He is such a good good father. What isn't counted doesn't count. And mainstream institutions systematically fail to account for feminicide, the gender-related killing of women and girls, including cisgender and transgender women. Against this failure, Counting Feminicide: Data Feminism in Action (MIT Press, 2024) brings to the fore the work of data activists across the Americas who are documenting such murders—and challenging the reigning logic of data science by centering care, memory, and justice in their work. Drawing on Data Against Feminicide, a large-scale collaborative research project, Catherine D'Ignazio describes the creative, intellectual, and emotional labor of feminicide data activists who are at the forefront of a data ethics that rigorously and consistently takes power and people into account. This book is also a forceful intervention that challenges hegemonic data science by exploring the possibilities and limitations of counting and quantification and drawing lessons for a restorative and transformative data science. A fearsome feminist movemnet has sprung up in response to an epidemic of feminicide in South America, achieving change thanks in large part to an innovative data activism campaign. Cathering D'Ignazio of the Data + Feminism Lab at MIT wrote a wonerful book that doesn't just chronicle the movement, but acts as a handbook for using data in fights for justice.
