So many experts and coaches find themselves frustrated with a common challenge: creating content that goes beyond a few likes and comments so your posts get leads raising their hands for your solution. There's a significant distinction between creating content for views and crafting it for client attraction, particularly on platforms like Instagram where algorithms constantly shift. If you want to become an in-demand expert that converts more clients and transitions Instagram views into valuable client relationships eavesdrop in as Melanie does an On Air Coaching Monetization session for Cathy Johnson on episode 432 of Amplify Your Success Podcast. In Season 8, Episode 3, host Sarah Thorne and Amanda Tritinger, Deputy National Lead of the Engineering With Nature (EWN) Program, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), are joined by Brian Davis, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Virginia (UVA), and Cathy Johnson, Coastal Ecologist, Northeast Region, National Park Service (NPS). Along with their colleagues and collaborators, Brian and Cathy are working with nature and incorporating innovative nature-based solutions (NBS) to combat the significant effects of climate change on three coastal national parks at high risk for extreme storms and rising sea levels.Brian is passionate about the opportunity that NBS provides to protect natural resources, while also designing for people—protecting the things we value and the way we use public spaces. “Traditionally a lot of design practices saw those two things as separate. One of the amazing things that's happening through landscape architecture and EWN and NBS is to unify those things.Cathy is passionate about the NPS's dual mandate of conserving natural resources and preserving cultural resources. “I feel so lucky to work here to preserve values of the NPS for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.” Cathy notes that NPS's challenging mandate is made all the more difficult by climate change and its broad scale impacts, especially along the coast. About three years ago, Brian and Cathy formed the Preserving Coastal Parklands Team. The idea was to bring together designers and scientists, as well as engineers and other subject matter experts that could work with NPS in these different contexts and develop new nature-based solutions. Brian and Cathy describe projects that they worked on located at the Colonial National Historical Park, Assateague Island National Seashore, and the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historic Park.Asked what they have learned from their experience, both Brian and Cathy note the value of collaboration. “One of the key lessons that we took away” Brian says, “was the value of being able to work with and listen to the people that are managing the landscape—especially the Park staff, but it also other special interest groups, people that go out there for particular reasons, or have some stake in the future of the place and some ideas about it.”Amanda reflects on how these examples of NBS can be used by others: “What you and your team are building is a framework for how to approach these issues to achieve the compromise of these multiple needs and multiple benefits. You are creating a framework that ideally could be picked up by others in similar situations.”When asked for their calls to action to listeners, Cathy encouraged people to “Visit your parks and the other natural places around you to better understand what's at risk from climate change and talk to other folks about it.” Brian's call to action is one of optimism: “Sometimes, especially studying climate change, the scale of the problem can seem daunting. But just being out in these landscapes—meeting the people that work in them and visit them—leads to ideas about preserving those values and understanding better what's possible in the future. That fills me with optimism.”For more information and resource links, please visit the EWN Podcast page on the EWN website at https://www.engineeringwithnature.org/  Amanda Tritinger at LinkedInBrian Davis at UVACathy Johnson at ResearchGate

Climate Courage: the role of Boomers

Boomers have had a bad rap over recent years (#OKBoomer), especially with how they vote and their priorities for the future. Many countries are still led by Boomers, and in countries like the US, political parties are actively trying to suppress younger voters, which happened in the UK recently too, although that backfired tremendously. What this all creates is an environment of frustration because Millennials and GenZ are focused on issues relevant to their future, including action on climate, biodiversity loss and extinction, the cost-of-living crisis, the housing crisis, jobs crisis, and so much more. But Boomers are not being silent on these bigger issues either, and we're seeing them rising up and taking action. From Swiss pensioners taking the government to the European court over climate change impacts, to protesting the banks role in climate change, and we also have many participating in activism, with some even going to jail for it.  When it comes to where our nations' focus politically, including priorities, demographics matter, and until recently, Boomers have had the final say, but that is now shifting dramatically. Millennials and GenZ are moving into the driver's seat, but are they voting? Are they actively participating? Are they stepping into leadership roles?  In the meantime, how Boomers vote, invest, buy homes, or even how they argue with younger people about the multiple crises' facing our world is causing so much friction in families, communities and on social media. It's a big challenge, so how can we get all the generations working together, hearing each other, and prioritizing what we must do to ensure a liveable future for everyone?   I am delighted to be joined by three of my favorite Boomers – Cathy Johnson - The Authenticity Coach, Lindsay Adams OAM - The Relationships Guy, and Neerja Singh - The Seenager, to discuss the core issues we are facing today, how we can overcome them, and how we can all start working together to define a future for all of humanity, that takes into account all of the different priorities.  Come and join us. Self-worth is something so many struggle with. It's a deep and fundamental belief that you have value in the world, and yet, so many lose it and never get it back. When you lack self-worth, you struggle through life not believing you have anything of value to offer the world. So what is self-worth, how does it differ from other self-ideas like self-esteem or self-belief, and what are the moments that take it away? It's a big topic, and that's why the amazing Cathy Johnson and I decided we wanted to dig into it more and share our findings in real-time. We did a small survey, attempting to understand why people lose their self-worth, when it happens, and finished this podcast offering ideas on how to get it back. This is just a beginning and we are looking forward to welcoming many guests onto the podcast to dig deeper into why people lose it and how we can all get it back. If we have belief in our own self-worth, we are more powerful role-models in the world, and right now, we definitely need more role-models. Have a listen, let us know if you would like to join a future podcast, and please, feedback any ideas you'd like us to explore in more depth. Note: this is not for people suffering deep trauma or serious abuse. We are not claiming to be professionals that can help with this and are clear in the podcast that this is not our intention. We believe that if “the rest of us” can heal, we make space for more compassion for those really suffering in our society. If we can heal, we create the space for wider community healing – something the world desperately needs.  To get in touch with Cathy JohnsonOn LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/coachcathyjohnson/ Her Website https://cathy-johnson.com/ To get in touch with me, Andrea EdwardsWebsites https://andreatedwards.com/ and https://uncommon-courage.com/ My book Uncommon Courage, An Invitation mybook.to/UncommonCourageAnd the workbook mybook.to/UncommonCourageActionAnd my Facebook Group Uncommon Courage https://www.facebook.com/groups/442905877003333

Happy Thanksgiving for those of you who celebrate. We're digging into our archives and replaying some of our past episodes that you might have missed.  Be sure to join our Facebook group and share your school success stories!  In this replay episode, we’re joined by licensed speech and language pathologist, Cathy Johnson, to discuss how reading disabilities like dyslexia can appear in different children differently. When Cathy discovered her young daughter was having difficulty learning how to read, she wanted to ensure her daughter received the attention and help she needed. Not finding much assistance out there, Cathy traveled all over the US seeking training in how she can better help children with learning disabilities. She later founded the Johnson Academy, which offers an alternative to the one-size-fits-all learning approach. Cathy also runs the Speech, Language, and Learning Center. Full show transcript here.  What We Discuss in This Episode: What are some signs to look for in your child to see if they have learning disabilities How it’s easy for a child to fall behind in school because of lack of awareness by teachers The importance of awareness, assessment, and research The percentiles and averages that determine deficiency Why the interpretation of scores and the data is crucial (and often done incorrectly!) Statistics around dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities What the most effective way is to address vocabulary and reading deficiencies How to use the “Notes” app on an iphone for students who struggle with written expression There three basic types of dyslexia Resources Mentioned:   Learning Ally Orton-Gillingham The Neuropsychology of Reading Disorders  Overcoming Dyslexia by Sally Shaywitz Contact Information: kathy@ocsllcinc.com (949)487-5251 The Speech, Language, and Learning Center The Johnson Academy Thank you for listening! Dan Savage is an author, journalist, LGBTQ activist, and media pundit. From his internationally syndicated sex-advice column "Savage Love," to his massively popular podcast "Savage Lovecast," Dan is never afraid to speak his mind. On this week's YLM, Rachel talks to Dan about food, sex, food during sex, food after sex... and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We've got a special treat this episode! Since it's our last show before the big election, we've got a presidential-style debate about Dan's (and America's) favorite food that you don't want to miss. Special thanks to Cathy Johnson from the National Peanut Board. Original music by Prom Queen.

Rev. Cathy Johnson teaches on Philippians 2 in "Horizontal Shift." This is the third sermon in the "Shift" fall series. Following Jesus invites us to shift from the world's posture of “looking out for Number One” to a love for others that seeks their best, their wholeness. This requires a humility of spirit that has been modeled for us perfectly in Jesus.
