Welcome to Season 4, Episode 37 of Winning Isn't Easy. In this episode, we'll dive into the complicated topic of "Back and Neck Disorders."Host Nancy L. Cavey, a seasoned attorney with extensive experience in disability claims, explores various back and neck disorders, including Cervical Dystonia, Lumbar Radiculopathy, and Spinal Stenosis. Back and neck disorders are commonplace in the disability world - unfortunately, many of them have elements of subjective pain, which carriers love to latch onto as a reason to justify claims denials. Host Nancy L. Cavey will also discuss tests and procedures carriers expect claimants complaining of back or neck disorders to undergo, and how they can either medically bolster a claim against accusations of subjectivity, or, on the other hand, be used against a policyholder. In this episode, we'll cover the following topics:1 - Cervical Dystonia and Your ERISA Long-Term Disability Claim2 - Does Your Long-Term Disability Insurance Carrier Expect You to Undergo the MILD Procedure for Spinal Stenosis?3 - Back Pain Caused by Lumbar Radiculopathy - A Somatic System Disorder That Justifies Prudential's Termination of Long-Term Disability Benefits?4 - Why a Positive Waddell Sign In Your Physical Examination Can Be Used by an ERISA Disability Carrier or Plan to Deny Your ERISA Disability Back ClaimWhether you're a claimant, or simply seeking valuable insights into the disability claims landscape, this episode provides essential guidance to help you succeed in your journey. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Marica: Hello Dr Cabral, Grateful for all that you do. I recently came across a couple of articles wherein they say that vinegar (due to its acidity) can cause cancer because cancer loves sugar and acidity. What is your take on this? I was of the impression that apple cider vinegar was healthy. Should we replace vinegar with lemon? Isn't lemon acidic too? Whenever I feel that I finally got diet figured out I come across something like this. Pati: Hi Dr. Cabral, Thank you so much for all that you do! I have learned so much from you on my healing journey. I wanted to ask you if you've ever heard of cervical dystonia. A friend was recently diagnosed and her head tilts to the left. She is experiencing a lot of pain from it. Is there any advice you can give. According to Google there is no cure. Thank you, Pati Alex: Hey dr Cabral. Thank you for all of the information you put out there. I searched for my question but you haven't gone over it in over 2000 episodes and my podcast player won't play it. My blood work shows low alp (Alkaline phosphatase). Fortunately other than slightly out of wack testosterone and slightly elevated bp the rest of my blood work is good I just always have low alp. Debbie: Today I started the 7 day detox ( I could not send notification so I can get daily e mails because it wouldn't let me I have a question....It says to drink the shake at 8:00 am an hour after you get up....well today is my day off & I do not get up that early on my days off as I am up at 5:30 during the week. My job is super physical & my body is tired. So today I drank the first shake at 9:00 as soon as I woke up....(why do you have to be up for an hour before you consume the shake)? I guess I will stay on track & drink the next one at 11:30 & 3 1/2 hours after that.Is this going to mess anything up? Melissa: I saw recently that Redmond's real salt tested high for lead and arsenic. I use redmonds salt and their relyte electrolytes. My heavy metals test came back high for arsenic. Could this be a cause? I could it figure out another source of where I would be getting it. It is so frustrating and confusing trying to find brands you can trust as I have always thought Redmonds was great. Cervical dystonia (sometimes called neck dystonia) is the abnormal position of the muscles of the neck, causing a twisted, turned, flexed or extended neck position. Abnormal signals coming from the deep parts of the brain cause this condition and therefore it is not muscular in nature and will not resolve with muscle massage or stretching. The mainstay of treatment of cervical dystonia is with injection of botulinum toxin, such as Botox or Xeomin. Botulinum toxin injections work by causing a disruption between the nerve and the muscle, thereby weakening the muscle that it is injected into. For cervical dystonia, because the muscles that are pulling or twisting the neck to one side are overactive, Botox works to calm those specific muscles down and allows for a more natural and neutral head position.
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Joanna: Hi Dr. Cabral, I hope this message finds you well and you're enjoying a beautiful summer! I've got two totally unrelated questions that I would love to get your take on: 1. Could you quickly explain what Sjorgren's syndrome is in your words, what could be causing it or what tests would help to find that out and what you would recommend if someone in your family suffered from that? 2. Could you see the drug industry investing more research into things like myostatin-inhibitors again to counteract the risks of muscle loss for people using GLP-1 agonists? Thanks for everything you do! Johann Michael: Hey Steven, I haven't messaged in a long time I still have primary Addisons disease and take the regular hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone daily. I'm just after having an emergency shot of hydrocortisone because I have a gastro bug and I want to recover quickly. Have you any tips on this please? Just so tired of being scared to get sick with this illness. Lisa: Does meat cause cancer specially like prostate cancer or any other cancer? Can you use diet to stop it without treatment? WIll a whole food plant base diet help it? Is it possible to get colon cancer within 2 years of having colonoscopy? Will a ct scan show it or pet scan? Mindy: Hi! I enjoy listening to your podcast each day and really trust your advice. I was wondering if you've heard of or looked into the Jaspr air filter? It's more expensive than the air doctor and I'm wondering if it is really effective and worth the price. Thanks for all you do! Pip: Hi Dr Cabral. I'm 35 and have been diagnosed with idiopathic cervical dystonia tremor. I've had it on and off for about ten years however this year it has got considerably worse and affects me daily in activities. The neurologist has referred me to another neurologist specialising in dystonia who will inject Botox into my neck muscle to relax it and stop the tremor. This is a three monthly treatment for the rest of my life. Apparently there is no cure but I'd like to think there is SOMETHING natural / alternative I can do to stop or reduce the tremor. I'd love to hear your suggestions? Thank you. Most cases are idiopathic. The current view is that cervical dystonia may be caused by some combination of genetic and environmental factors. Genetic contributions have been studied extensively, but there are few studies of other factors. Objective: To conduct an exploratory metabolomics analysis of cervical dystonia to identify potentially abnormal metabolites or altered biological pathways. Methods: Plasma samples from 100 cases with idiopathic cervical dystonia and 100 controls were compared using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. Results: A total of 7,346 metabolic features remained after quality control, and 289 demonstrated significant differences between cases and controls, depending on statistical criteria chosen. Pathway analysis revealed 9 biological processes to be significantly associated at p

Blur is a street artist and poet based in Philadelphia. Her experiences with multiple chronic illnesses--including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Chronic Lyme Disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, and Cervical Dystonia--pushed her to take full advantage of the artistic tendencies she previously only explored in private. She wants her artwork to bring out the vulnerability and empathy in everyone who views it and forge a connection with her audience through that sense of catharsis. In the first of a two-part series, Blur discusses how severe illness inspired her to make her art public, making the rebel inside of her to fight back against her obedient tendencies, and the dual aspects of her identity that being an anonymous artist has allowed her to appreciate. We delve into why he always ends up writing gigantic stories and the challenges of writing such stories in a series. He opens up about a particularly brutal case of writer’s block and how he ended up getting through it. I even talk about the time I went to an art exhibit called Body Worlds and how it nearly made me barf. Yes, it gets personal. All that and more!
Lack of sleep can be very draining on our emotional and physical health. Combined with pain, it can be devastating. In this episode Carol talks about her years of insomnia and pain and how she overcame most of it at an EFT training session. Carol had had incessant insomnia and night terrors for years. During the EFT Training Carol talks about how the EFT Chase the Pain approach helped relieve her of her pain and how she gained further relief working with deep seated emotional issues including rage. Guest: Carol Hickson, EFT Therapist Contact: Website: www.letgobehappy.com/ About: Carol Hickson is a level 1 and 2 EFT Practitioner. In addition, she has a diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and is a Life Coach, Mindfulness Teacher and Reiki practitioner. She is based in Northwich, Cheshire although she does telephone and Skype consultations. A former Secondary French and Spanish teacher Carol has 20 years pastoral experience working directly with children and their families. She came to therapy because of her own personal experience which the medical profession, although diligent, had not been able to resolve. A combination of bereavements, work related stress and chronic pain (she has two broken discs in the lumbar region and Cervical Dystonia) led to a four-year bout of chronic insomnia, which left her debilitated and exhausted. As a result, of personal experience Carol has chosen to focus, in particular, on Insomnia, Childhood Issues, Bereavement and Chronic Pain using a combination of the above therapies. Using EFT she has overcome several struggles which were impacting on her life. Her insomnia was resolved once she had dealt with childhood experiences and the deaths of her partner and father. Her significant problems with back and neck pain have settled, previously she required a disabled parking badge and, she has been pain and medication free since her involvement with EFT. The emotional issues including fear, shame and outrage underlying the physical symptoms have been resolved. In the near future, she will be training in Mindfulness Based Inner Repatterning. She hopes to take EFT into schools and enable students to be proactive towards their mental and emotional health. She is passionate about helping fellow insomniacs and sufferers of chronic pain find release from their suffering and is confident that this is achievable by identifying the emotional roots of the problem. It is time to Let Go Be Happy!
