Ashurst recently brought together key stakeholders from across the data centre ecosystem to explore the many opportunities and challenges in the industry. In this episode, we share the key takeaways about investing in and financing of data centres. Experts at a recent Ashurst seminar dived deep into the funding issues associated with data centres. Among the participants were Ashurst’s Ruth Harris, Rebecca Clarke, Chris Grey, and Rhodri Lewis – and in today’s podcast they share the highlights and talking points. On the investment side, the seminar discussed strong demand, low vacancy rates, and high barriers to entry due to construction costs, regulatory scrutiny, and power access. With major M&A activity already underway, several capital destinations were flagged up including the Nordics, Spain, Italy and Greece, and the importance of subsea cable access and geopolitical factors was emphasised. From a financing perspective, the move towards longer term lender/sponsor partnerships was covered. Among several hot topics, the seminar explored the challenges of securing early-stage finance, structuring for future asset exits, and lifecycle capex planning amidst rapidly advancing technology. It was also noted that increased lender appetite raises the possibility of earlier involvement in projects and interest in more flexible finance options. The jig is up for serial bull-shit merchant Nigel FarageNick Cohen talks to Chris Grey @chrisgreybrexit - author, brexit expert and emeritus professor of organisation studies about where the madness of Donald Trump and his MAGA cult have left their supporters among Britain's Radical Right con artists, such as Nigel Farage, leader of Reform.By continuing their slavish obeisance to the US's crazed would be emperor Donald Trump, the UK's Radical Right and its leaders including Farage risk alienating those of his supporters who support Ukraine's existential fight against Putin and are coming to loath Trump and his reckless clown car administration.Even tricksy Farage can't carry on riding 2 horses at once!Chris Grey, one of the UK's leading experts on Brexit, says Nigel Farage and his radical right fellow-travellers have been badly caught out by Donald Trump's full fledged assault on the West. Farage's always far-fetched strategy of a brexit Brtiain forming some anglo-centric alliance with the US lies in tatters; Brexit has only further isolated the UK as the US turns its face away from Europe and throws its support behind the UK's enemies such as Putin's Russia. The UK is also now dangerously stranded between 2 stools.Read all about itChris Grey is Emeritus Prof of Organisation Studies @RoyalHolloway, ex-Prof @Cambridge_Uni & @Warwickuni. In conversation with author, blogger and columnist, Professor Chris GreyPost the Labour landslide election victory, some of us have smiles on our faces. Does the result mean we can now really turn the page on the chaos and mendacity of the last 14 years? Is Keir Starmer relying on dumb luck for success? Is this the last chance saloon for the UK?"Stability, Investment and Reform". How deliverable are these things? Will they be enough, particularly as there is no money?Labour is placing a big bet on getting construction going again. Who is going to do he building if immigration is to be reduced? How do you do he right thing if you are subsequently politically crucified? Can the UK really move closer to the EU with Farage in Parliament and the rabid Brexit media waiting in the wings? And much more! Nick Cohen gets the Lowdown on the UK's greatest taboo - the ever-deepening Brexit crisis - from Chris Grey, emeritus Professor @RoyalHolloway, and author of the highly-regarded and must-read blog, Brexit and beyond.Extra Brexit food checks come in from next week - threatening food price rises and shortages. Meanwhile, the Tories fail to get one of its promised "Canada-style free trade agreements" with Canada! Every week, @chrisgreybrexit - also author of the book Brexit Unfolded - exposes the many absurdities, lies and disasters of the Brexit Britain clown show and explains how the Brexiteers' preposterous promises were never remotely deliverable and were always likely to cause huge damage to the UK's economy and standing in the world. For example, we should now be seeing the Silicon Valley of the East End's Hoxton - as promised by @DanielJHannan. Er...where is it?Both Chris and Nick lament the chronic failure of the BBC and other MSM to hold to account the charlatans like Hannan , Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage who mis-sold Brexit. But how can Labour handle the Brexit mess they are set to inherit when so many people who voted for it refuse to accept the mayhem they were conned into inflicting on all of us?Support the showListen to The Lowdown from Nick Cohen for in-depth analysis of the issues and events that shape our lives and futures. From Ukraine to Brexit, from Trump to the Tories - we hope to keep you informed - and sane! @NickCohen4
Seems to some of us that the shadow of Brexit hangs over the Tory conference. Many of the leading players are only where they are because they are Brexiteers. Professor Grey has made it a personal mission to chronicle the drama and effects of Brexit. He writes a blog and now the latest edition of his book "Brexit Unfolded" is published bringing the story up to date. Does this mean that the Brexit story has reached a conclusion? Maybe not!!!

In addition to this, he is the Author of Life Hacks: Simple Steps To A Healthier Life and also writes articles on Medium. In this episode… There seems to be an endless supply of tech startups these days. With so many entrepreneurs believing they have the next great service or app, how do you stand out? The bar has been raised almost impossibly high, and companies need more funding and guidance than ever. Because of this, the best investors are entrepreneurs themselves, having experienced both sides of the process. Chris Grey is a perfect embodiment of that idea, having handled over a billion dollars in private equity and started multiple companies. He has an impressive resume — but more importantly, he has put in the time to help other startups thrive. His specialization is in technology, so he knows better than anyone how to take tech brands to the next level. Alex Gluz sits down with Chris Grey, the Co-founder and COO of CapLinked, in this episode of the Revenue Engine Podcast to discuss tech startups and what they need to excel. Together, they talk about funding and how to best utilize resources. They also go over Chris' background in private equity, his experiences in the tech field, and why focusing on the right metrics is crucial to success. Listen in to hear all of this and more!

In this episode, Emeritus Professor of Organisation studies at Royal Holloway, Chris Grey speaks to host Professor Anand Menon. They discuss his latest book 'Brexit Unfolded,' the years of political turmoil following the EU referendum, how the meaning of Brexit gradually emerged and whether another vote on EU membership during the negotiations could have been possible.
In 2020-21, the UK left first the EU and then the 30-nation European Economic Area. Much of the impact has been masked by the coronavirus pandemic but, as that lifts, there will be profound effects on patterns of employment, national strategic positioning, political cleavages and even on the continued cohesion of the kingdom itself. This did not have to be the case. Short of never leaving the EU, there were less disruptive exit models available. Why weren't they taken and why did the Brexit process radicalise between 2016 and 2019? These are the questions Christopher Grey explores in Brexit Unfolded: How No One Got What They Wanted (and Why They Were Never Going To) (Biteback, 2021). Emeritus Professor of Organisation Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London, Chris Grey previously taught at Leeds, Cambridge and Warwick and is the author and co-author of nine other books. He stumbled into the Brexit debate during the referendum campaign and started writing a blog (Brexit and Beyond) that soon turned into a must-read - propelling him into the front rank of Brexitologists and earning @chrisgreybrexit 54,000 Twitter followers. *The author's own book recommendations are Heroic Failure: Brexit and the Politics of Pain by Fintan O'Toole (Apollo, 2019) and A Question Of Loyalties by Allan Massie (Canongate Books, 2002 - first published in 1989) Tim Gwynn Jones is an economic and political-risk analyst at Medley Global Advisors. Tonight Ice and Spanky talk about missing Soldiers and post renaming. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for credible information leading to the whereabouts of missing Fort Hood Soldier, Pfc. Vanessa Guillen and PV2 Gregory Wedel-Morales. The 20-year-old Vanessa Guillen was last seen April 22 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of her Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters, 3rd Cavalry Regiment on Fort Hood, Texas and has not been heard from since that date. Her car keys, barracks room key, identification card and wallet were later found in the armory room where she was working earlier in the day. She was last seen in the parking lot wearing a black t-shirt and purple fitness-type pants. Originally from Houston, Texas, Pfc. Guillen maintained close ties with her family and the city of her birth, visiting there frequently while stationed at Fort Hood. Guillen is of Hispanic descent, five feet, two inches tall, 126 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Her Military Occupational Specialty is a 91F, Small Arms/Artillery Repairer. She is an avid runner. At this point, investigators have no credible information or report that Vanessa Guillen was sexually assaulted or that this case is in any way connected to the investigation into the disappearance of PV2 Gregory Wedel-Morales, who was last seen on the night of Aug. 19, 2019 while driving his car in Killeen, Texas. Both of these allegations have been widely circulated via the media and on social media. “We are completely committed to finding Vanessa and aggressively going after every single piece of credible information and every lead in this investigation,” said Chris Grey, spokesman for Army CID. “We will not stop until we find Vanessa.” More than 150 people have been interviewed and “We are working very closely with multiple law enforcement agencies to include the FBI, Belton Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, as well as others,” Grey said. “We have also partnered with Texas EquuSearch and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to tap into their resources as well. We have participated in ground and air searches on Fort Hood and throughout the Central Texas region.” Army CID and Fort Hood continue to seek the public’s help for information. “We know somebody out there has some very critical information pertaining to this investigation and we strongly encourage you to do the right thing and come forward,” Grey said. “Do it for Vanessa and do it for her family, friends and fellow Soldiers.” Persons with information can contact Army CID Special Agents at 254-287-2722 or the Military Police Desk at 254-288-1170. We've got a sensational episode for this week's Imitation Game companion, with two brilliant guests to shed some light on the true stories behind the movie. First, we speak to Professor Chris Grey, an expert in Organisational Theory and author of Decoding Organisation - a book detailing the inner workings of Bletchley Park during World War Two. In our chat we discuss some of the key bones of contention about the accuracy of the film, including Alastair Denniston's portrayal as someone opposed to Alan Turing's work, whether MI6 were involved with the passing of information to the USSR through Soviet spies, the complexity of the Enigma, the role of women at Bletchley and whether Turing was as difficult a character as is made out in the movie. We also cover loads of bits that weren't mentioned in The Imitation Game, like the role of Polish codebreakers before the war, and how decoded messages were passed securely to military commanders and politicians in London. It's such a fascinating chat and adds so much more detail to the events of the film. We also talk with John Leech, a Lib Dem Councillor and former MP who was one of the key figures behind the Alan Turing Bill, which secured pardons not only for Turing but for tens of thousands of men convicted of gross indecency because of their sexuality. He tells us how he and his colleagues managed to get the bill through Parliament and how it felt to have a key role in such a significant law. Steve and Cory talk about what Brexiteers meant when they talked about Global Britain, update you with what's happening with the free trade deals the UK is supposed to be signing with Japan and America, and discuss a recent report which sees Britain's influence in the UN dwindling if we're not careful. The blog by Chris Grey we talk about is here. The UNA-UK report is here. James Cram designed our logo and Dave Depper is responsible for our themetune, Plucky Good Times.
Hey folks. This episode we converse with Chris Grey about trappings and how they can impact setting. We also get into the game he’s currently part of kickstarting, The Great […]
Demystify Innovation - everything you need to know for successful innovation
In this episode we have an insightful conversation with Professor Chris Grey, who unpacks fundamental questions about organisations and their innovation. In our conversation Chris begins by unpacking the fundamental paradox between control and autonomy and how that effects innovation. He talks about, amongst other things, the truth behind leadership, followership and culture, unintended consequences of various organisational forms and how you ‘d better celebrate failure if you want any success!
What is an “organization?” According to Chris Grey, the guest in this Social Science Bites podcast, in many ways it’s a moment in time. “An organization,” he tells interviewer David Edmonds, “is also a momentary crystallization of an ongoing process of organizing.” Grey is a professor of organizational studies in the school of management at Royal Holloway University in London and a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. And while he’s been heavily involved in management studies – he’s actually part of the School of Management at Royal Holloway – he makes clear that the rubric of ‘an organization’ extends far beyond business alone. “A huge amount of life is organized,” Grey explains, “and is therefore under the ambit of organizational studies.” In fact, the field itself, which essentially emerged from work on bureaucracy by Max Weber, was usually located in an institution’s sociology or psychology departments until the advent of business schools in the 1960s exerted a magnetic draw on the discipline. One of Grey’s best examples of not being solely a business study is detailed in his 2012 book — Decoding Organization: Bletchley Park, Codebreaking and Organization Studies — about the (now) famous British World War II codebreaking campus. As he describes in this podcast, Bletchley Park harnessed many of the current cultural trends and personality traits of its selected workforce so well that even spouses didn’t know of each other’s wartime exploits for decades after V-E Day. Even if organizational studies is boiled down to issues of economic efficiency, he continues, “we have to open up the question of what does efficiency mean and for who?” He adds: “We needn’t give the answer, ‘efficient for the powerful’.” And while admitting that his “take” is far from universal among his colleagues, “Fundamentally the problems of organization are not soluble and they’re not amenable to the kind of prediction and control that is sometimes promised.” While he has wide ranging research interests and a love of detective novels, Grey remains well-represented in the management field. He was editor-in-chief of Management Learning for six years. Grey co-edited the 2016 book Critical Management Studies: Global Voices, Local Accents and was co-author of another 2016 volume, Secrecy at Work: The Hidden Architecture of Organizational Life. His most recent book for SAGE is the cleverly named A Very Short, Fairly Interesting and Reasonably Cheap Book About Studying Organizations.
BJ is once again joined by fellow record collector and CheapKISS Records owner Chris Grey, last time it was songs from Radio Station compilations and this time each has selected 12 songs from his collection Various Artists compilations from the late seventies and early eighties. It's all here: power pop, punk, AOR, metal.
BJ is joined by special guest Chris Grey, co-owner of Cheapkiss Records, who was gracious enough to share with us his vast collection of regional radio station compilations from the early eighties. BJ and Chris discuss the obsessive nature of record collecting and then you'll get to hear a bunch of cool songs by local, unsigned bands from those radio station comps.
Chris Grey joins the program to discuss his new book: Will Shakespeare and The Ships of Solomon. Then, Patricia Langer joins us to discuss her Alien Abductee Study...
