Dennis Rutledge and Tim Schlum from Calvary Rescue Mission are our guests. Calvary Rescue Mission first opened its doors on April 1, 1967, founded by Milton Hatcher. Milton, a former barber and recovering alcoholic, used a repurposed hearse to pick up men in need. The mission serves homeless men through Christian-based shelter, meals, clothing, and nightly chapel services.
This sermon focuses on the importance of understanding and living in the "in Christ" realm, which is contrasted with the natural realm or the "world of the dead." Pastor Joel emphasizes the need for believers to renew their minds, align their thinking with their new identity in Christ, and live from a place of divine union. He stresses that this shift in perspective is essential for experiencing the fullness of what God has provided through Jesus Christ.
This sermon emphasizes the importance of aligning one's thoughts with God's word and living in vital union with Christ. Pastor Joel emphasizes that believers must change their thinking to match their new identity in Christ, moving beyond mere emotional experiences to a faith-based lifestyle. He highlights the need for Christians to resist negative thoughts, embrace their new nature in Christ, and live from a position of already possessing everything they need through their relationship with God.

“Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, ‘Look at us.' So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.' And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them--walking, leaping, and praising God!” (Acts 3:1-9)Written and sent out from the morning prayer time of Tommy Hays each day.God bless you and may you have a great day!—Tommy Hays | Messiah Ministrieshttp://messiah-ministries.org
MR | July 29, 2024 | Pastor Francis Isibor | Ministers Rest In the journey of faith, it is essential to recognize the power of unity within the Body of Christ. As believers, we must remain steadfast in aligning our teachings with the doctrine of Christ, ensuring that our message is consistent and rooted in the universal truth of the Scriptures. ### The Foundation of Teaching The foundation of all teachings is the doctrine of Christ, which serves as the bedrock upon which our faith is built. There should be no deviation from this foundational truth. Just as a building relies on a solid foundation, our spiritual teachings must reflect the principles laid out in the Bible, ensuring that they are in harmony with the universal message of Christ. ### Consistency and Unity In our roles as teachers and leaders, it is crucial to maintain consistency in what we impart to our communities. Our teachings should never contradict one another, as doing so can lead to confusion and division. Instead, we should aim to present a unified message that emphasizes the oneness of God, the gospel, and our shared faith. By doing so, we cultivate a sense of belonging and unity among believers, reinforcing the idea that we are all part of a greater, universal Body of Christ. ### Shared Values and Beliefs To achieve unity, it is vital that we nurture a community grounded in shared values and beliefs. This means consistently teaching principles that unite rather than divide. When our congregation encounters others within the faith, there should be no sense of strangeness or unfamiliarity, but rather a recognition of shared beliefs and a common purpose. ### The Analogy of Cooking Consider the analogy of cooking: Just as a skilled chef uses specific ingredients to create a dish, so must we use the foundational truths of the gospel to "cook" our spiritual teachings. These teachings should be recognizable and familiar, reminding those who partake of them of the core principles of our faith, much like a familiar dish evokes fond memories. ### Personal Reflection and Humility As we guide others in their spiritual journey, we must also remain aware of our own growth and limitations. Humility is a key component of effective leadership, allowing us to acknowledge our ongoing need for personal development. By recognizing our own imperfections, we open ourselves to greater empathy and understanding, strengthening our ability to lead others. ### The Call to Action In conclusion, the call to action for all believers is clear: work towards unity within the Body of Christ by upholding consistent teachings that are deeply rooted in the doctrine of Christ. Encourage dialogue and collaboration among fellow leaders to ensure that the message we convey is one of unity, love, and shared purpose. In doing so, we not only strengthen our individual congregations but also contribute to the collective strength and unity of the entire Body of Christ. --- By presenting the message in this narrative style, the reader is directly guided to understand the importance of unity, consistency, and humility in the teachings and practice of their faith. This message considers the final phrase of the Apostles' Creed: "I believe .... in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen." The forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting are great riches we have in Christ!

1 Corinthians 15:12-34 12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. 20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. 29 Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? 30 And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? 31 I face death every day—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” 33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”[c] 34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.

In Matthew 12:46-50 Christ's family comes to see him, however, they come doubting. When told that his family wants to see him, Christ explains that his true family are those who do the will of his Father in heaven are his true family. This is the blessing of the gospel: that though there be many who turn away, those who come to Christ are adopted into the family of God with Christ himself as their elder brother who came to bring many sons to glory.
