The Cycling Tech Brief: the cycling tech that actually matters this week — and whether to update, wait, or ignore.Wahoo ELEMNT V3 firmware WG77-302533 (June 16) adds live CORE, FLOWBIO, hDrop, and Tymewear biometric data fields — Monitor: the firmware itself is stable and worth updating, but hold off on buying the sensors until independent accuracy testing accumulates on actual Wahoo hardware in field conditions.Strava v467.0.0 drops hiking-first overhaul: offline nav, Apple Watch route-following, off-route alerts now live — Update now—subscriber or not, there is something here for you; subscribers should enable offline routes and Apple Watch navigation before the next trail day.Strava paywall API access at $11.99/month effective June 1, 2026—developer ecosystem fragmenting as IPO approaches — Monitor: as a rider, check that your favourite third-party Strava integrations still work after June 30—some free tools may shut down rather than absorb the developer fee.COROS watches bricking days-to-weeks after mid-May 2026 firmware—company confirms free replacements for affected devices — Monitor: if your COROS watch dies after the May update, contact support immediately for a free replacement—COROS has confirmed this policy; do not attempt DIY fixes.Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM V3 arrives with touchscreen, full-colour display, and new sensor platform—but upgrade value depends on generation — Monitor: ROAM V3 is now the more compelling platform given new sensor breadth, but wait for the biometric sensor ecosystem to prove out in field conditions before treating it as a reason to upgrade from a functioning V2.Daily cycling intelligence from SEMIPRO CYCLING, produced with AI-assisted research, scripting, and synthetic voice.
We start by mapping the season ahead, talking base building, long-run confidence, and how to sneak in hill work even when you live somewhere flat. We also share one of our favorite community rituals: a collaborative Spotify training playlist that turns solo miles into a shared soundtrack and helps you find new “go-to” songs when motivation runs low. Then the mood shifts to the headache a lot of runners felt this week: Princess Half Marathon Weekend registration gets postponed. We talk through what it's like to sit in the queue, how tough it is when people rearrange work and family schedules, and why the added service fee makes the whole thing sting more. We also wrestle with the uncomfortable question: if races keep selling out fast, what pressure would actually lead to better registration tech and clearer communication? From there, we go full gear nerd with a roundtable on running technology. Garmin vs COROS watches, Shokz bone conduction headphones, hydration vests, the Gymboss interval timer for run-walk training, Strava add-ons, and the new gadgets that tempt us, including ENGO sunglasses with a heads-up display. We also share honest buyer's remorse, from fueling experiments that wreck your stomach to lights and accessories that never live up to the ads.We wrap with a spotlight that brings the fun back: Andrew the Puppet Runner joins us to share his free summer virtual race (5K, 10K, and half) and why he's connecting it to fundraising for No Kid Hungry. If you enjoy practical training talk, real world Run Disney updates, and gear advice you can use right away, hit subscribe, share this with a running friend, and leave us a review so more runners can find the Rise and Run family.Puppet Runner Virtual RaceRise and Run LinksRise and Run Podcast Facebook PageRise and Run Podcast InstagramRise and Run Podcast Website and ShopRise and Run PatreonRunningwithalysha Alysha's Run Coaching (Mention Rise And Run and get $10 off)Send us Fan MailSupport the showRise and Run Podcast is supported by our audience. The host explains how he raised his estimated VO2 max in 2026 in his 40s, emphasizing that the biggest driver was structured hard training with progressive overload, not "hacks" like peptides, supplements, sauna, red light, or ketones. After years of mostly zone 2 cardio (under ~124 bpm) plus weekly MMA, he shifted to one zone 2 session, one Norwegian 4x4 VO2 max workout, and one MMA session weekly. He defines VO2 max and details the 4x4 protocol (4 minutes hard/3 minutes easy for 4 rounds plus brief warmup/cooldown), using a COROS heart rate monitor to track significant zone 5 time. Starting at 8.0 mph, he increased treadmill speed by 0.1 mph weekly to 9.3 mph, discussing deload weeks, fatigue limits, body weight changes, footwear, sauna frequency, and mixed views on supplements like beta-alanine, beetroot, and ketones. Jack shares how he started running around five years ago and quickly became interested in performance, progression, and finding more affordable gear through secondhand markets and platforms like Taobao and AliExpress. That curiosity evolved into detailed shoe reviews on Instagram and YouTube, with a strong focus on Chinese brands and how they compare to more established Western companies. Jack explains how this niche has grown rapidly, with innovation in foams, plates, and design now competing closely with the biggest brands in the sport. The conversation then shifts to Jack's own progression, including improving his marathon from 2:56 to 2:43 in Perth and then sub-2:40 in Osaka, alongside a half marathon around 1:12 and a 5K near 15:40. Matt and Jack discuss the role of consistent training, proper fueling, and building speed to support marathon performance. Jack breaks down his current shoe rotation, including the Dynafish Jiaoyan, Red A9 Ultra, Li-Ning Challenger, and Li-Ning Phaidon Elite 6, along with race options such as the Li-Ning Feiyeng Ultra 5/6 and Anta C10 Pro 2. He also shares insights into brands like Anta, 361, BMAI, Xtep, and Peak, highlighting where Chinese innovation is leading and where limitations still exist in global distribution. They also discuss broader topics including whether Western brands still hold an advantage, pricing trends, the impact of super shoes, and what emerging brands are doing differently. The episode closes with discussion around watches - with Jack favoring the Coros Pace 4 - and supplements such as creatine, beta-alanine, and bicarb. Dr. Teddy Bross is a practicing family medicine physician at Highpoint Direct Care where he focuses on the treatment of athletes and active adults in Colorado and select surrounding states. He is an avid mountain ultra trail athlete, husband and father. Happiest in the company of friends and indulging in small joys, Dr. Teddy is a seeker of wild flowers, avid reader and consumer of poetry, and frequent DIY project manager, including the building of a dreamy Finnish basement sauna. In this episode, Teddy and Jon talk about the massive gaps that exist in traditional medicine for endurance athletes and why so many runners are struggling with fatigue, low energy availability, recurring injuries, and burnout without getting meaningful answers. They dive into the realities of modern healthcare, why most runners wait too long to seek help, and how Teddy approaches athlete care differently through direct primary care. The conversation also explores ferritin and iron deficiency, underfueling, GI issues in endurance sports, why so many athletes are chronically exhausted, and how curiosity plays a role both in medicine and in running.Teddy also shares stories from pacing David Roche at Leadville, witnessing the emotional moment at Foresthill during Western States, and what excellence really looks like behind the scenes. This episode is a deep look at athlete health, performance, consistency, and the systems that either support or fail runners trying to stay healthy long term.Stay connected: Learn more about Highpoint Direct Care: https://www.highpointdirectcare.com/aboutusDr. Teddy Bross on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/run.doctor/This episode is supported by:Precision Fuel & Hydration - Dial your fueling in this year. Dazu viel Reifenbreiten & Roubaix-Talk!
Most outdoor brands have a YouTube problem. They're just not talking about it. Jeff Pelletier is a filmmaker, trail running creator, and one of the most thoughtful students of YouTube strategy and in the outdoor space. In this episode he breaks down why most brand channels are underperforming and what to actually do about it. We cover the difference between consistency and familiarity, why athlete-led channels outperform brand channels, the Marvel cinematic universe framework for building an audience around characters, and how YouTube's new collaboration feature changes the game for brand-creator partnerships. If you work at a brand, or if you're a creator who wants to bring more value to the brands that back you, this episode is required listening. In episode 285 of the Better With Running podcast, Run2PB coaches Chris Armstrong and Zac Newman provide a deep dive into their current training blocks before welcoming guest athlete Laura Tomic. Chris shares details on his 66km week, highlighted by a "Moose Fartlek" session consisting of threshold and 5km pace efforts, while Zac reports a strong 83km week. Zac's progress is particularly notable as he returns to 95% health following a back injury, aided by specific strength work. The hosts also promote the upcoming International Women's Day Running Connection on March 1st at George Knott Reserve, a community event featuring Elise Beacom as host, and elite athletes like Jemima Montag and Sarah Klein.https://www.lovetherun.com.au/iwdrunningThe episode's central focus is an interview with Laura Tomic, a Run2PB athlete coached by James Hansen who has made a stunning return to competitive track and field. After a long hiatus from the sport to raise four children, Laura joined the program in March 2024 and has since achieved remarkable success in middle-distance events. During the interview, Laura reflects on her journey from being a high-level teenage athlete to rediscovering her passion for the track as a Master's athlete. She discusses her specific focus on the 800m, 1500m, and steeplechase, events that require a demanding blend of speed and aerobic power. The discussion highlights her recent personal bests, including a 5:19 mile and a sub-5 minute 1500m, as well as her goals for the 2026 season. The episode concludes with a "Quick Questions" segment where Laura shares her preferences for Garmin over Coros and her appreciation for the track community. As a reward for her contributions and impressive results, she is gifted a pair of Oat Running Socks.Partner Offer: By using the code Run2pb20 through the end of March, supporters of the podcast can grab 20% off their next kit upgrade.
Welcome to episode 284 of the Better With Running podcast, hosted by Run2PB coaches Chris Armstrong and Zac Newman. The show kicks off with the weekly training wrap-up, where Chris shares his 77km week, highlighted by a grueling session of hill repeats transitioned into a 5km threshold. Despite a tiring two-hour long run and a particularly memorable encounter with an oversized dog at Parkrun, Chris managed to maintain his consistency. Zac also shares his progress as he navigates some back management with help from fellow coach James Telford, reporting a much-improved 100-minute long run at Yarra Flats that signaled a positive turn in his recovery. The heart of the episode features an interview with Drysdale based athlete Dylan Smith, who joined the Run2PB community in early 2025. Dylan discusses his rapid progression under the guidance of coach James Telford, moving from a self-described "post-COVID runner" to a serious competitor hitting major milestones. His transformation is evidenced by his significant PB improvements, including dropping his 5km time from over 22 minutes to a swift 20:11 and shaving nearly seven minutes off his half-marathon best. Dylan reflects on the importance of structured coaching and the community support that has fueled his journey from his first around the block truggle to completing the Sydney Marathon. Dylan speaks candidly about his motivation for running, which stems from a desire to be a healthy role model for his son. This personal "why" has helped him stay disciplined through the early morning sessions and the inevitable "grind" of marathon training blocks. The episode wraps up with a signature round of quick-fire questions that reveal Dylan's life outside of the sport. Listeners get a glimpse into his "cheeky" hobby of gaming, his preference for Garmin over Coros and he shares his current shoe rotation. To close the show, the coaches offer a special treat for the listeners with a discount for Oat Running socks. By using the code Run2pb20 through the end of March, supporters of the podcast can grab 20% off their next kit upgrade. Go to www.oatrunning.com.au

Oh shit, Herr Schmidt! Diagnose, Krankenhaus, Vollnarkose, wieder eingekugelt. Aua.
“Last year, I came into the indoor season with the sole goal of breaking 3:50 in the mile… That was the big goal to tick off. I thought I'd maybe have a shot at running 3:48-high or 3:49-low to mid, so to run 3:47 actually surprised me quite a lot. This year, I feel like that's almost the expectation now. The standard has definitely been raised and the bar's been raised.”My guest for today's episode is Cameron Myers. Over the last three years, the world has gotten to know what Australia has known for a while – that something special has been coming. At just 19 years old, Cam ran 7:27 for 3000m to win the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, delivering the fastest 3K ever run by an Australian that's either indoors or outdoors. In the process, he broke national records held by Ky Robinson and Stewy McSweyn. He closed in 55.98 seconds over the last 400m and surged away from a world-class field with the kind of composure that you rarely see from a teenager. To put that performance into perspective, only three men in history have ever broken 7:28 before turning 20 years old. That's Eliud Kipchoge, Jacob Kiplimo, and Jakob Ingebrigtssen. That's the company that Cam Myers now keeps. He talks about that stat in our chat, but what makes Cam so compelling isn't just the time; it's the way that he talks about the sport. He's thoughtful, honest, and remarkably grounded for someone who's already climbing so high in the global ranks. In our conversation, he's open about the challenges that he's faced, including a recent medical setback that forced him to withdraw from the World Cross Country Championships. We also talk about his breakout race in Boston, why stacking training upon training has become his guiding principle, how he's learning to race to win instead of just hanging on. Plus, he'll be one of the stars of the Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games this weekend after taking third place last year in a U20 mile world record of 3:47.We're speaking with Cam as part of his announcement that he has joined the Coros roster of professional athletes, which includes the likes of Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Jess Hull, and Alex Yee. He shares a bit of his data-driven approach, but you can learn more if you read their blog post on him here.Cam is already rewriting record books and he's doing it with a long view of where his journey can go since he'll be one of the stars for Australia when they host the 2032 Olympic Games.____________Mentioned in this episode:COROS Blog Post - Cam Myers' Training: A Deep Dive____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Cam Myers | @camer0nmyers on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Olipop is a better-for-you soda that puts 6-9g of fiber in every single can. Lewis Wu is one of my running training partners and someone I've shared many trail adventures with: long climbs, heat, altitude, fatigue, and plenty of laughs. As the CEO of COROS, he didn't fall in love with running right away; it was data, curiosity, and steady progress that drew him in. From those first “boring” miles to recently finishing a brutal 100K, Lewis has built endurance with patience, consistency, and a willingness to keep showing up no matter how hard it gets. The latest "Better with Running" podcast featured an insightful interview with John-Paul Caligiuri, a dedicated runner who recently achieved a personal best of 16:05 in the Albert Park 5km. John-Paul shared details about his extensive running journey, which spans approximately 15 years of consistent effort. During this time, he's amassed an impressive list of PBs, including a 2:28 marathon in Chicago, 72mins for the half and 33mins over the 10k.The interview talks about how he came involved with run2pb and getting coached by Brady Threlfall, He offers insights into his favorite training sessions and how they have worked together to achieve goals. The interview also delvs into John-Paul's personal life, touching upon how he balances demanding work in civil construction—running a family business with long hours and frequent travel—with his rigorous training schedule and family life, raising three teenage children. He manages this by primarily running early mornings and the odd double!A quickfire round revealed more about his preferences and insights, covering topics like gear (Garmin or Coros), tech (iPhone or Android), shoe rotation for different types of runs, and the pleasant surprises he's found in running. He also shared life advice, a song for his life's soundtrack, and we hear about his music background, favorite athletes, and even the one food he could eat daily. JP will be hooked up with some new Oat Running Socks for joining the show, as a thank you for sharing their story. You can check out their range : https://www.oatrunning.com.au/

This week on Marni on the Move, I'm joined by professional runner and COROS team member, Charlie Sweeney. Fresh off a 19th-place finish at the 2025 Boston Marathon—with a personal best time of 2:12:00—Charlie gives us a behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to compete at the elite level while holding down a full-time job in the endurance sports tech world. We talk about how he got into running, what pushed him to go pro, who's coaching him, and how he manages a training load of over 130 miles per week. We also dive into the gear he trusts, including the shoes he races in and how COROS plays a role in his training and recovery. Whether its road running versus trail running, Garmin versus Coros, iPhone versus Android or Democrats versus Republicans, why does it sometimes feel so hard for us to actually listen to each other? We look at what it means to find common ground, and to be genuinely curious. And why it is sometimes so difficult to remain curious. We also take a look at our mental maps and try to figure out why it can be so difficult for us to change our perspective. This is a conversation that some would rather hide in the bottom of a portajohn to avoid. But you love this shit, and we love you right back. Enjoy this warm cuppa Cultra Brew!
