This week I sit down with Craig Coady, a father who has faced an extraordinary amount of heartbreak and who is now fighting with everything he has for his son.Craig speaks about his wife Della, who is living with Huntington's disease and is now in full-time care, and their two boys, Rory and Paudie, who were both diagnosed with the rare and progressive condition Friedreich's ataxia. Last year, Craig faced the unimaginable when 13-year-old Rory passed away as a result of the disease.Today his 16-year-old son Paudie is living with the same condition, and Craig is campaigning for access in Ireland to Skyclarys, the first treatment for Friedreich's ataxia, which can slow the progression of the disease. This is a conversation about enormous loss, a father's love, and a family who have already endured so much but above all, it's about Craig's determination to keep fighting for his son and for hope.We mentioned at the end of the conversation that there is a march in Dublin this Sunday August 23rd beginning at 12 noon from the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin to Custom Quay House. July 11, 2025: Mick Coady, CTO at Armis, tackles a problem that has been haunting healthcare IT for decades: you can't protect what you don't know you have. The conversation reveals how hospitals still rely on manual processes to track everything from IV pumps to imaging equipment, often discovering critical vulnerabilities only when it's too late. What's the real cost when imaging machines sit idle, losing over $26,000 per hour, or when "good" IV pumps hide in closets while staff struggle with failing equipment? The discussion explores how healthcare teams can finally move beyond overwhelming alert fatigue to focus on what truly threatens patient care. July 7, 2025: Mick Coady, CTO at Armis, joins Drex for the news. This episode examines a sobering milestone: the first confirmed patient death directly attributed to a ransomware attack on London's blood distribution system. The conversation explores how a single cyber incident creates cascading effects across entire healthcare networks, flooding neighboring hospitals with redirected patients and overwhelming emergency departments. With 28 healthcare security incidents reported in June alone—many involving third-party vendors—the discussion questions whether the industry fully understands how interconnected systems create compounding vulnerabilities. From agricultural equipment with satellite connectivity to medical devices running outdated firmware, every connected endpoint represents a potential entry point for attackers.
